THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.
----------------------------------------
Flashback of Doffy's childhood begins during his dream...err....nightmare and holy smokes watching that backstory gave me the chills. The cruelty. It was gut-wrenching.

Donquixote Homing and his family suffered gravely at the hands of humans who loathe and despise the Celestial Dragons for their despicable abusive treatment towards humans. Doffy blames it all to his Father who made the wrong decision so their lives turned into a living hell.

Returning to Law's backstory, he was accepted by Doffy in the Family and will be trained as his right hand man 10 years to come. Law reveals his real full name to Baby 5 & Buffalo. It's Trafalgar D. Water Law. Corazon was shaken up when he heard about the truth, and warns Law. Wow, who is Corazon's seiyuu, huh? o_O

EDIT: Despite the grave nature of Doffy's backstory, Corazon's clumsiness of fumbling down to the floor every time gave me some good laughs at least. xDD

I really hope the Celestial Dragons are taken out at some point in the series (probably will be toward the end) because I can't stand them. I don't really like Doffy but damn, what a tragic past. Still having nightmares 33 years later. Law has the Will of D and it's revealed that Corazon can speak. Next week we get into the best part of Law's backstory, can't wait

And Corazon's clumsiness never fails to make me laugh haha

EDIT: Turns out there's no episode next week :/ we'll have to wait a little longer for the best part of the flashback

People on MAL refuse to actually enjoy watching anime.

Your taste in anime isn't a personality trait.

MAL is literally just anime Twitter as its own website lol.

I'm loving this flashback. It's really tragic but it's the best thing in this anime since a really long time.
I have no complaints,Toei did a great job imo.But the reveal of Law's name was better in the manga, maybe because it was shocking back then.
10/10 episode for me,felt like 5 minutes tbh.

That Doffy flashback was intense! After everything the celestial dragons have done i cant blame those people for reacting like that. Doffy's father was extremely naive thinking that they could just live peacefully like that. Going through everything that he did you can really understand how much the concept is to Doffy after being sort of betrayed by his father.

Law's time with the Doffy's group was surisingly heart warming and made me smile. Baby 5 was so adorable as a kid! It almosts makes me forget that they're supposed to be the antagonists of this arc.

Really enjoyed the revelations at the end with Law and Corazon. Can't wait for the rest of this flashback!

Awesome back story on Doffy and how his father Homing destroyed their lives by trying to become normal humans.
That revelation was sick and casual, just children talking stuff without knowing the improtance of it. Trafalgar "D." Water Law. OMG.
Corazon heeds warning to law.

I guess 2 more episodes on Law's back story then we will be back to the fight scenes at the castle.

Coming to the discussion thread with all the excitement from the episode, but getting shocked about next week's episode :(

Anyway, Law has a D in his name!! So many D's are around now, I can't wait until we know what is it's secret really. And then why does Dufy hates it to the extent that made Corazon speak and warn Law to leave.

So Corazon is the younger brother in Dufy's flashback right? The kid's name was different tho.
Was that cruel punishment the Trauma that made Curazon stop speaking?

I totally understand the people's anger because only seeing the Celestial Dragons makes me as mad as they are.
However, that was really cruel, the kids and mother should not be involved. Although Dufy was horrible even when he was a kid.

From the given information, a possible assumption would be that Dufy finds out Law's secret and kills Corazon when trying to protect him. However, I don't understand why does Corazon care about Law?

Really? He grew up getting taught that he is godly and every normal born is basically scum and his slave.Especially in their young years, humans are forged by their surroundings. It's the same thing the other way around."Normal" humans who grow up getting treated like shit from the World-Nobles will develop some kind of hatred and grudge against them.
I found Doffy's reactions as a kid to be reasonable, same goes for the "humans".

Great typical One Piece episode as some of the previous ones. However, it feels kinda short. Well, perhaps it's because this is my first time watching episode once a week since I caught up last week. Not only that, but we are also having a break next week?! What a bad luck!

So, that is Doffy's past. To manga readers, I want to ask : "Is that all"? I expected we are going to have more of Doffy's past... I do not see Doffy's act to kill her dad yet, so I'm sure his past has not ended.

I really appreciate Doffy's dad decision because, at least he is not a jerk as other Tenryuubitos and he realized that every human has the same right of living in this earth, but I can't argue that he is TOO DAMN NAIVE. He should come up with another strategy of living, and not openly stating that he's former Tenryuubito in front of people like that... -_-

The highlight of this episode is supposed to be the revelation of Law's true name. But sh*t, beacuse of this damn internet society we have today, I got spoiled easily for that. I still get the feels of the intended shock therapy (a little), but I am not shocked anymore. Damn this spoiler!

The last thing I want to say is : BABY 5's voice is so CUTE!!
Who voices her? The same VA as her adult VA?
I got the same loli feels as I had when I hear Sugar's voice. xD

Anyways... 8.5/10, for a generic good episode from One Piece.

Doffy's dad was right on, but WAY TO FREAKING NAIVE!!! What did he think that everyone would just make friends like the Celestial Dragons have done NOTHING?! But that said I do NOT feel sorry for Doffy in the least. There's more to that flashback...

The track record of incredible flashbacks continues unbroken.

Still kind of gut wrenching, even if you can't blame the mobs for taking revenge on any Celestial Dragon they could find. And Doffy was just a child, he never had a chance to be a decent person. Raised at Mariejois, his first encounter with normal humans as equals ending this way.

Corazon spoke! Not as shocking as it could've been, an AMV I watched a few weeks ago slipped in some manga content with no warning. :/ Still, intrigued by Corazon and can't wait to learn more about him.

Law being a D, well, aren't 90% of the people on One Piece D's now? :P Maybe after all this time we'll learn what that means, but I doubt we'll get more than a tease if that.

Good episode, faithfully adapts the manga.

Law revealing the D in his name was done nicely.

I have to say, Corazon's black flamingo coat and hood combo is so much more badass than Doflamingos.

One of the best episodes of the whole year. And probably for the rest.

Here is what happens: Pandaman! Corazon that was silenced from a trauma just spoke! We found out Trafalgar has a D. and I'm not talking about his cock!
Trafalgar D. Water Law. We got an amazing flashback from the agony and rage of the citizens that was provoked by the Tenryuubito.
And also about how stupid Doflamingos' father decision was. I mean, the citizens just got revenge. Doflamingo was cursed since birth because he was born as a Tenryuubito, and apart from the other Celestial Dragons, no one would be nice to them unless they had a gun pointed at their heads. Saying they came from Mariejois was like most stupid thing ever. That dad deserved to die.

Intense episode, one of the best since a while.

Now the only questions left are how Doffy survived his childhood and what's the relation between Corazon and Law.

It was somewhat predictable that Corazon will start speaking imo. I'm very curious now, he looks like an interesting character.

The only thing I disliked is how they added Doffy's father just saying he's a former celestial dragon to the first person he saw..
I mean he was naive in the manga, but that is just idiotic.

The episode was fine, and to be honest, I'm kinda bummed I read the manga because nothing surprised me this episode, but I still enjoyed it.

St. Don Quixote Homing and family gave up their status as Celestial Dragons. Doflamingo still has nightmares from the events after they left Mariejois. Back to the main flashback, Law reveals his name: Trafalgar D. Water Law. So Corazon (aka Rocinante?) says to Law he should get away from Doflamingo because of the secret name D.

HOLY SHIT THE D

doofy actually has apretty intersting past.

his father was a celestial dragon who wanted to live among humans

and the way the people treated them the moment they realized doffy's family are celestial dragons just showed how deep the hate for celestial dragons among normal people really is.

i wonder who saved corazon and doffy. highly doubt the people let them live and leave

This and the previous episode were so good! It's been a while I enjoyed OP this much. Law backstory is so tragic, but I also felt sorry for Doflamingo. His father was so much better person compared to other celestial dragons, it's really a shame this destroyed him and his family.

I wonder what's the thing with Corazon, why he wants to help Law... And why was he called differently when he was a kid? @_@ Maybe it is a different person or sth, something doesn't feel right here.

Think of where and how he was brought up... If not for his father's naivety, he would be treated like a normal kid and maybe started behaving like other kids in the neighbourhood. I can't really blame him for his anger towards human beings, we could see how he still has nightmares about the past, classic case of trauma.

His real name is Rocinante Donquixote and his alias is corazon which would represent the heart seat for the top 4 executives in Doffy's crew, with trebol, diamante and pica being spanish for clubs, diamond and spades. Im pretty sure those 3 also have a real name which oda will probably reveal later in an sbs

Wow, what an episode! And I finally caught up with the current episode.

Firstly, the tragedy of the fallen Celestial Dragon family. It started with good intention then it went downhill from there. I agree with Doffy there, his father is an idiot! The naivety and ignorance of St. Homing compounded by his blind optimism made everything hard for them to live as normal humans. If only he and his family kept silent of their origins things would have been different. On hindsight, I guess it comes back to the ignorance and lack of understanding of the people and world outside Mariejois, their reputation for blatant disregard for human life and the grave abuse of their power and privilege, their delusion of being gods, and so on that makes it even worse for them to know better of the world.

Then, Law is a D.! Even now I still don't understand this mythical (or maybe it's mystical?) status of the middle name initialed people in the One Piece world.

Lastly, it's all about Corazon. It seems Corazon was Rocinante first. Why is he Corazon anyway? A code name in the Don Quixote family just like Law said while talking with Baby 5 and Buffalo? Then why he didn't report Law to Doffy is beyond me. Why he stopped speaking before is another (I'm hazarding a guess that it was childhood trauma but it could also be an excuse even if there is really no trauma at all) and why is he speaking now? Because of Trafalgar's middle initial of D.?
You see there's no need to wonder where your god is,
Coz he's right here! ...and he's fresh out of mercy.

Really cool episode.
Shame how Doffy's father wanted to change and they were still seen as Celestial Dragons, being hunted down instead of the other way around.
Good to see more of Doffy though, his past in this case.

Had a feeling Corazon could talk if he wanted to.
Seems the "D" names are something to be wary of.
