| No. As in any piece of fiction, the most important aspects of an anime are story and characters. The impact of any other aspect is minimal. I suppose next we'd say soundtrack, and then animation, with artwork at the end. Really, as long as the story and characters are great, then you've got a great show. However, it is possible to, for example, remove a point for bad animation/art, but that should not greatly impact the rest of the show. I hope this makes sense :) |

| Not necessarily, I think, if the story is worth watching and interesting. Afterall, I'm watching cause of the plot and not to stare at the art. But first thing you will most likely notice is the art so if you find it disturbing there's a chance that you'll drop it. Then there are also anime which have good art but not so interesting plots. |

Inconsistency is what comes to my mind whenever the topic of bad or lazy art is brought up. Ping Pong's art wasn't bad; it was just different and, most of all, intentional. It was part of the show's charm. Regarding inconsistency, I think that Birdy the Mighty Decode 2's action scenes are a good example of where it can take away from the viewing experience. It's clear that the art quality was drastically toned down during these scenes, to the point where all the details from the characters were removed (resulting in only basic outlines) and debris/smoke from damaged buildings were merely shown as polygons. And then after the action, the art quality would return to normal like nothing happened. It was jarring for sure... but to be fair, it did serve to maintain the quality of the animation and arguably added to the grittiness of the action, but I digress. |

It was different and slightly strange, just like the story. The artwork in the manga is almost cute, and while I like it too - and I think that it adds a certain layer of unease, what with how young they are - I think the rotoscoping gave the anime an edge. However, I can definitely see why some people don't like it. |
