Why do people watch Ecchi anime's and complain that they are Ecchi? I've read so many reviews on MAL where people give so low scores and complain about why ecchi anime's contain boobs and such, it's like looking for slice of life in Action fantasies, or action in romance dramas, or sci-fi in historical anime. |

Agreed. Some people are borderline retarded in picking anime to watch. |

Same reason people watch slice-of-life shows to complain about the lack of plot or cute girls shows to complain about moe ruining the industry. They are retards who get more enjoyment from bashing stuff they obviously dislike than they get from watching something they actually like. Or they might just criticize how the ecchi is implemented in the anime. An ecchi tag doesn't make immune to criticism, you know. When it's just lazy writing, stupid clichés and cringeworthy characters stumbling into boobs every 2 minutes for no apparent reason, it's most likely a shit show and being tagged ecchi doesn't change that (not implying shit shows can't be enjoyed though). Good ecchi series are just hard to come by. Ecchi doesn't have to mean not caring about the writing and characters. It's not hentai, after all. |
I probably regret this post by now. |

How old are you? Ecchi isn't really a good genre, although some of it can be good if they use it in moderation. But yes, people shouldn't be watching ecchi if that upsets them. Now that's what I don't like about "critics." |

(ecchi-ness in ecchi) Calm down, it was a joke. Don't take me seriously as I usually don't mean everything I say. And I agree with you. Complaining about what you're given is likened to a young child expecting his favorite meal every night and somehow gets something he finds icky that one night. You should just stay in your comfort zone if you're going to be intolerant, because most anime fans don't know how to control their borderline and masochistic personality disorders. |

But it's important to remember that a movie review is subjective;it only gives you one person's opinion. http://www.classzone.com/books/lnetwork_gr08/page_build.cfm?content=analyz_media&ch=30 It doesn't matter if you like LoGH,Monster etc.If you are a jobless or college/school dropout living in your mom basement, you are still an unintelligent loser. Agreed, OP, except for the comment about low scores, since it doesn't always relate to how good or bad a show is. Myself included, many people rate at their own system regardless of their enjoyment of the show. About Testament, that statement is entirely wrong because they are neither family nor that's the reason he does it nor disobedience is the trigger for it but I'll avoid deviating from the thread's subject. |

I like ecchi but it could use more of a gender equality. I mean, pretty boobies are to be found in every genre but if I want to see some topless men my choices are usually limited to a) free or b) yaoi and I don't like either. |

The plot for Free! was the strongest point of the show other than it's eye candy. Grouping all yaoi together is like saying every romance anime is shit. And Binan Koukou's third episode was the strongest so far out of all of them. Then again, it's mostly comedy and not really fanservice at all. I feel like it toned the fanservice down so it would have male viewers too. |

Because much like action anime (or any other genre), it depends on how that ecchi is executed. Simply sticking an ecchi tag onto something is not a free pass to lazily insert boob gropes and panty shots every frame with the mindset that "it's supposed to be stupid anyway." There's a reason something like Love Love? is near the bottom of MAL's scoreboard whereas ecchi such as Sekirei and DxD stand in respectable rankings. There is a refined art to it. hakuyu said: Isn't Binan a parody? That's the impression I got right from the trailers. And Binan Koukou's third episode was the strongest so far out of all of them. It is but it's still catering to the female audience a bit more yet I feel like it's a bit toned down. Moniisek said: well, never mind, looks like we have different tastes anyway No, my point is that you can't judge that kind of genre because that's like grouping all romance anime in one genre when there's a lot of different kinds like Clannad to Maison Ikkoku to Toradora to SAO to Honey and Clover to Nodame Cantabile to Nana. In my limited experience with yaoi/yuri, it's a mix between pure fanservice smut to actually well written stories. |
