Okay, so this guy is awesome. He sounds like a male. He identifies as a heterosexual male. But he likes looking like a woman (and having cleavage). And now, he is the mayor of Silverton, OR :D

I saw an interview with him tonight, and he's a REALLY AWESOME. I'm a fan.

Stu Rasmussen served two terms as the Mayor of Silverton in the 1990s. But he hadn't admitted to being transgender. He's not the same man now that he was then. Today he wears a skirt and high heels. He has breast implants, and long red hair. He looks like a woman - but he's not.

"I indentify mostly as a heterosexual male," Rasmussen said. "But I just like to look like a female."

Rasmussen is a man. He even has a girlfriend. He says he's always been transgender, but he only "came out" a few years ago.

"Some guys mid-life crisis is motorcycles or sports cars or climbing mountains or throphy wives or whatever." Rasmussen said his mid-life crisis was quite different. "I always wanted cleavage, so I went out and aquired some."

I'm interested that his way of being transgender seriously breaks with the mainstream medicalized version of it, where you have to want to 'become your true gender' in a normative way - like male-to-female would have to be feminine and like guys.

Also, in the article they talk about how he's a guy, and they mention his girlfriend as if that proves it.

A while back I heard about a cool openly trans woman who's on the Japanese parliament. Unfortunately I forget her name. But she's into all kinds of activist stuff too.

What do you mean, on me or on someone else? Sure they'd be cool for a couple minutes before I realized that I was playing with my own boobs and then it wouldn't be nearly as enjoyable.

My thoughts too :D I was really impressed with that, as well as him as a person. He's a very cool guy, I wish they had posted the video interview with him.

And that's cool about the Japanese parliamentarian, I shall have to look her up.

Hey, that's cool. I, for one, am glad that Silverton's voters care more about their politicians' abilities and views (or whatever they voted him in for) than their gender identifications.

Oh, interessing to see "him" coming-out like that. But unfortunately, he's a little out of the track. I mean, people who feel they are woman will dress as woman, and vice-versa. However, "He" dresses as a woman but thinks of himself as a man, which contradicts that thinking. Well, everyone is different, that is why that I will say: "He should just live his life as he wants". But that would be strange to call "him" when he's dressed like that, because a girl dressing as a man would be called by "HE" and a man dressed as a girl would be called by "SHE"...
That's the first time I hear someone staying with their "old" gender even after all that.

No, I can't believe that someone with mental problems would be voted into office. Same reason why I wonder Ted Stevens won his election despite his felony charges.

Considering the things he said in his interviews he seems fairly mentally stable to me. To say that because someone deviates (even as severely as this) from the norm that they cannot make good decisions or hold a position in office is quite absurd.

Americans are willing to vote for transgenders - but when will they make the leap and be able to vote for atheists, overcoming the mental block that all atheists are immoral and corrupt?

Whats more interesting is how the hell ted stevens got reelected.

A very good point. I would love to see this one day.. I wonder, has there ever been a case of anyone unaffiliated with a major religion being elected into a political office in the U.S.? I'm sure there has somewhere, at least on a local level.

I speak from experience. Not a crossdresser, mind you. She's has had everything done but the reassignment surgery. Very feminine in appearance.

This kind of thing is certainly not a fetish of mine, but I'd be lying if I said she wasn't attractive. *shrug*

Sex, perhaps.. As far as gender.. she doesn't think of herself as a man, even before the hormone treatments, hair removal, and implants, she's identified as female. Therefore, she.

You place too much stock on the biological. Sex and gender are two different things. Few people know she was even born male. She thinks, feels, acts as a woman, and lives her life as a woman. It's really more of a sociological/psychological thing.

Quick lesson:
Gender - sociological construct. Concept semi-nominally semi-postulatively stated.
Sex - biological determination. Physical feature nominally defined.

Also, this seems as if you think there ARE "cats". There aren't. There are a vast number of certainly patterned particles we call "cats" by excluding defining what patterns are not "cats". "Catness" as such does not exist. Same thing with gender/sex, though the latter is harder to do anything about. Concepts have no natural correlation.

Now, no, you would by our current usage not be a "cat", but that's because you have defining features that exclude that definition from being applicable. When it comes to gender it's a lot easier to get rid of the baggage that ties you (acting as you are no matter what gender stereotype it applies to - this includes the pronouns you use to refer to yourself with), same with sex (cut off your penis... or glue one there).

He is a man, he was originally a he, and therefore will never be a she. You can babble on about sex and gender but in the end when he goes to sleep at night, the guy knows deep down inside he is no woman, nor is he a she.
