I gotta give some respect to Kagami for trying against Akashi. Seems almost hopeless though with the way he is being countered.

Somewhat interesting to see Mayuzumi take on Kuroko directly as well. I think this match was somewhat evenly balanced in a few ways. At least Kagami is still building up the momentum.

Trap on the captain to get their hope lost, Kuroko decided to get in again to get the team stand up again.

New vs. Old misdirection. Kuroko somehow regained his "transparency" and Red went back to zone. It seems like they are regaining the points now. HiroC's character doesn't give up because he use new misdirection guy's "shisen" to take care of Red's zone.

Continues.

I'm suprised to see Akashi not intervening with Kuroko's overwrite, when Akashi, himself, stated the weakness of the shadow. This episode really made out the importance and dedication required to be in Kuroko's position.

Always nice to see Kagami's wild instincts.

Poor Mayuzumi.. Being used by Akashi like that. It's nice to see Kuroko back in the game though.

I really hope they rise the budget. I want this to live up to Aomine vs Kagami.

Akashi looked like he was going to shit his pants when Kagami went back into the Zone haha. And damn, sucks for Mayuzumi being used by Akashi like some worthless tool now. It seems like every time Seirin makes a comeback, Akashi has another trick up his sleeve. Can't wait for next week
People on MAL refuse to actually enjoy watching anime.

Your taste in anime isn't a personality trait.

MAL is literally just anime Twitter as its own website lol.

Ladies and Gentleman, Kuroko is back!
He had to skills of the original phantom 6th man.

Mayuzumi copying misdirection overflow too though (essentially) :v
Still waiting for a new Kuroko move. I hope we will see one for the final match. That would be cool.

1. The situation seemed impossible for Seirin the end of last episode, and of course even more so when Hyuga was benched. But ultimately, all it took was for Kuroko to overwrite Mayuzumi and Kagami to be back in the zone to swing the match back to balance. Remember Rakuzan went into a huge lead when Kuroko lost his lack of presence and Mayuzumi was allowed to use misdirection.

2. Kuroko not only did something tactically important on the court, he also inspired the team to fight back, albeit with tears. Kagami admitted that he would have given up if not for Kuroko. Wish people would stop undermining Kuroko's contribution in this match.

3. While Kagami was stepping back while crouching (crouching Taiga), Akashi was frozen in time. :)

4. There's symbolism in the end card. See if you can spot it.

5. I wonder if the bits about Kagami's deeper zone and Akashi using Mayuzumi to distract Kagami were confusing for non-manga readers. I felt those parts went by too fast and needed a little more exposition. Anyway, I'll explain even if it's probably not needed. Kagami went into animal instinct mode and the zone at the same time. His animal instincts allowed him to reach a deeper part of the zone. Let's just call it deeper zone. In deeper zone, Kagami's area of defense became nearly as wide as Murasakibara's (who could defend the entire 2 point area), so he could mark Akashi from a distance. As long as Akashi is within that area of defense (denoted by the flaming circle), Kagami can block his shots and whoever else is within his range. So Akashi used Mayuzumi's increased presence (similar to Kuroko in overflow mode) to distract Kagami for a split second so that Mibuchi could shoot without getting blocked.

6. Perfect insight is a very common narrative shortcut in KnB, but damn, it does seem like Kuroko and Midorima made completely baseless (but obviously accurate for narrative's sake) assumptions about Mayuzumi. Just because you have never seen him draw people's lines of sight to himself doesn't mean he can't do it.

7. 3 incidents in this episode provoked cries of outrage among a small handful of very vocal Rakuzan fanboys when the relevant manga chapters were first released. When I browsed through the 200 or so comments on MAL, Kissanime and Reddit, I was pleasantly surprised to find no such outrage (or even recognition that they may cause outrage) with regards to those 3 incidents. Shows how small of a minority these nitpickers are, or how easily outrage can spread from a few to slightly more than a few.

This episode was pretty hype! Kuroko finally got back on the court and he was doing well. He basically overwrote Mayumi and made Mayumi have more presence so that Kuroko could stay as a shadow. Kagami entering the ZONE was great. Akashi using Mayumi as a tool to get passes through is so deceptive but works. Akashi definitely acts dirty to win no matter what. xD

8. Both Hyuga and Mayuzumi did something inexcusably stupid in this episode, but their teammates' reactions to their mistakes are completely contrasting. Herein lies the difference between the 2 teams. One team blames, the other supports.

9. [Foreshadowing] Hayama missed that shot because Mayuzumi's pass was too low. If only Mayuzumi's pass was perfectly placed and didn't disrupt Hayama's rhythm, Hayama would have made that shot. [/Foreshadowing]

10. It kinda bothered me that the scoreboard didn't change when Mibuchi made the 3 at the end. Rakuzan should be at 74 points.

11. Mayuzumi reacting instinctively (or rather, his instincts took over his conscious thoughts when it came to that decision) is normal in sports. In a fast-paced and competitive sport where split-second decisions are constantly needed, a player relies on muscle memory, gut instincts and the subconscious more than his conscious rational thoughts. This article is a good read:

http://www.nomapnoguidenolimits.com/2009/03/07/decision-making-on-the-court/

Excerpts:
... basketball has a more fluid pace of action than start-and-stop games like football or baseball. So it’s easier for a basketball player to immerse themselves in the flow of the game and let go of “conscious” thought or distraction. But is that “unconscious” response the same thing as pure “gut instinct”?

...so for an experienced hand, a “gut feeling” is actually drawing on a vast store of embedded training, knowledge and analysis...

In any event, it’s rather amazing to consider that the human brain might work so fast that, for someone who’s accumulated enough data (knowledge, practice, and experience) ....(might have) an integrated “unconscious” response in something less than .002 seconds. So fast that we’d swear we didn’t even check with our brains before we responded.

Serin is using the tiny hope they have, it is useful but still not enough.
And then comes Akashi with his mean games, taking advantage of his team member is offensive. It is reinforcing on how useless their number ghost player is :(
I hope Serin get Rakuzan down in a dramatic epic way.

I had an adrenaline rush during the scene where Kagami passed Akashi as he entered the Zone. Production I.G. really knows how to handle their BGM to set the mood to this series.

It's heartwarming to see how strong the Seirin bond is compared to Rakuzan. Rakuzan is like a newer model of Teikou where a whole bunch of monsters get together to fight without the glue that holds them together. The support Seirin showed to Hyuuga compared to the spiteful words delivered to Mayuzumi were such a contrast in the team's mentality. I guess sometimes change is better than tradition, because a newer school like Seirin values participation and enjoyment compared to Rakuzan, who values victory and pride over all else.

Akashi's death stare towards Mayuzumi after his mistakes were demonic. It goes to prove that he is worth nothing more than a stepping stone that the team can discard as soon as it shows signs of fault. I feel like his is possibly the most tragic character in this series, and I don't blame him if he get traumatised in all things related to basketball and relationships from here on.

The animation of Kagami's Wild Instincts and Deeper Zone were amazing! I swear, Kagami is underrated as a secondary main character.... It's ok, Kagami! You're still my favourite despite how people claim how OP you are!! I can't wait till next week! :D

Yeah, that's what I was referring to. Kuroko hiding in Mayuzumi's shadow. Or Mayuzumi overshadowing Kuroko. Something like that.

Btw, Daisuki's subs have been horrible all season (and I've been correcting them all season), but the subs for this episode are particularly horrible. Here's a corrected copy if anyone needs it: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/48695418/Kuroko%27s%20Basketball%203%20-%2070.srt

its just a simple concept where mayuzumi starts getting the attention instead of kuroko. But of course this show gotta give a name to every normal thing, so they're gonna call it Overwriting, cause hey! Shoenen!

Or you could have paid attention and used context clues. The prerequisite for the whole "Shadow" is that one has little presence. Hence why they took like 2 minutes to explain that Kuroko lost it because he had been performing feats like scoring and driving, which is impossible to do without getting noticed and made a buzz about him. Akashi even states that he forced the new model to only pass so that the same thing didn't happen to him. So Kuroko stopped using moves like vanishing drive and forced Mayuzumi to make plays. It's not the crowd noticing him that made the players notice. It's the new phantom making sick plays that are impossible for anyone to ignore.

Do you even watch real sports? Comebacks from a wider gap than this have happened. Nothing Seiren has done has even dwelved into the realm of asspull as of yet

I seem to remember something from the first season..... "He can't keep his misdirection for the full game". From the second season "This is the second game against Shutoku, they're more used to him now (i.e. he's more visible than before)". Again, from the second season "Misdirection Overflow.... once he uses it, he can never get lost again." I don't know about you, but doesn't that heavily imply that once he, for the lack of a better word, loses his misdirection/presence, he can't regain it. So.... why does he suddenly regain it now? Before you say it, he did lose it. That, my friend, is what I'm talking about or perhaps, you could have paid attention and used context clues.
