Genuinely can't wait for this to be over. Like last week, this was just another god awful episode.

Giving Axel some time to give a bit of background info at the 2nd to last ep does absolutely nothing, neither does the kiss he has with Christine because they had almost 0 chemistry the entire time.

The kicker is the idea that Skinner was closer than anyone thought all along, and all the wild goose chases that team Lazarus went through was (like this entire show) a waste of time.

And Watanabe really said this was his magnum opus? Dude is nuts, lmaooo

Hmm interesting to see how this all ends. Not like they could administer the cure to everyone.. so i'm guessing tis all a fluke.

Behold of my awesomeness~

@Marinate1016 Nah the NPCs glaze it every single week pretending their Sloppa aint being carried by the Watanabe brand alone are the ones most view as the NPCs. Most defense I've seen for this show has been how much it relates to every other show instead of standing on its own merits. It's chock full of bad writing and many just hand wave plot contrivances because they have invested so much into the series they are unwilling to accept mediocrity being served on a platter and insist "this is a hidden gem of 2025".

I would love for someone to just casually explain how

I get you want to say this show is some piece of art or it's going to age great but the fact is half of the show was a mismanaged waste of time chasing terrible leads which logically should have been the first place many would have checked just to come up empty handed but to learn something about the environment or the people around them. This is one of those "it's about the journey not the destination" and "humanity actually deserved it because they don't care" but somehow stumbles and crawls thru both of those themes.

I get it:

Big Corpo Bad
Government Bad
Humans Bad
Environment Good

But when are we going to accept that:

This show insults the viewer's intelligence as it attempts to navigate a self imposed time limit while half ass juggling a series of backstories on our protagonist we pretend to care about only to provide sub par episodes (Except for the Cult Episode one of the few I thought was actually ok), numerous gags and side plots thrown to pad out transitions, and ham fisted last minute secret antagonists and plot foils with Russian spies and government coup/assassins to give some deeper plot.

I think what irritates me the most was being able to bet with everyone I was watching the show with, on episode 2, the blind man at the homeless camp was Skinner. This show is an absolute mess, not because of its limited runtime, but because it cannot bother to respect the viewer enough to SHOW and not TELL what is going on.

I don't want to be force fed and told Doug is a "Black Einstein"
I don't want to be spoon fed Leland's exact year absence and the estranged relationship he has with his Sister thru an unrealistic conversation.

I want the show to set up and provide payoffs that don't feel contrived or magicked into existence to make the story just work.
I want the show to work within its short episode time limit and simply give a concise and well deserved plot of chasing a man who has doomed the world.

Ya, there are people who are going to watch this show and even hate watch the show. I am one of them. I have a discord night every Saturday where 10 or so of the shows of the season are aired and 20 of the 20 viewers all have said the same thing. They are confused why people are trying to justify the show is mid and 70% of every argument devolves into invoking Cowboy Bebop as some kinda knee jerk defense or excuse.

it was an ok thing to do to introduce a hyper loop at the proverbial last second just to get 2 of the main characters around the world conveniently from Pakistan back to the states so they could reunite for a grand finale ignoring the fact they had to take a plane to get to the same destination not 48 Hours prior.

Come on, this has loads of problems, you don't need to invent some.
It was literally introduced in the Turkey episode.

Not as much action but a better episode than the previous E10 as there are way fewer logic plot holes. Happy to see a few of my predictions come true.
* Axel isn't dead, YAY!
* The assassin has a split personality.
* INSCOM guy betraying Hayes.
* Pop corn hacker becoming friends with Elaina.
* Chris kisses Axel then leaves in style with NO REGRETS. Whoo! Actually was hoping for this.

Didn't expect
* Oh they offered the DJ Hacker a deal and he's helping them now!
* the President to have taken Hapna back when it was in development (like why?? Stress???)

Overall a very solid episode.

Why are people giving bad reviews on this anime?

Well, many reasons.

Most of the early episodes feel like filler. You could remove them and it wouldn’t change much. It’s always the same old ending of “no progress made”. Got repetitive after a while.

That reason, I understand, and it’s my biggest problem with Lazarus. I also feel like it should’ve gotten more episodes (either 2 cours or just 24 episodes) so we have more time to flesh everything out/polish.

A lot of people were expecting this to be like Cowboy Bebop too, I understand where they’re coming from but Lazarus is its own thing. It should be treated as its own thing. Not like Cowboy Bebop at all.

Though the stupidest reason is Lazarus being “propaganda” and having a “hidden agenda”. It’s all because of one moment with bad dialogue execution.

Except you can't since, aside from maybe episode 2, everything from those early episodes has come back in some way especially in this episode.

Good point considering the recent episodes. But even then, I'm worried that the finale will be rushed.

This show isn’t nearly as bad as a few of you are arguing, but also not “amazing”. Its average, the cinematography and animation make up for a lot of the issues but its not enough. My main issue has been the writing and the obvious plot holes that are too big to just ignore for “rule of cool”, mainly because they could so easily have been avoided…and are just so dumb. Im left leaning so i agree with most the messaging, but its presented in a very generic way. Not exactly thought provoking. Still, id say its like a 7/10… Which Im also a bit bias as I like the genre and director.

@Fintan i think it's 'bad' more for the fact of wasted potential, like when the dialogue grinds or the moments fall flat it irks that much more because it should be so much better with this level of talent involved. and the story's meandering hasn't been filled with much other substance, each episode feels so weirdly empty no matter what it's trying to do

that said, so much relies on how they wrap it up like, if the last episode slaps it will make up for it and if it is terrible we'll move on to the 10 or whatever heat sequel seasons we got coming in a week

Watanabe's legacy found dead in the slums of Chicago, shot thrice in the back by an individual we don't know anything about but it has tied to something called "Adult Swim". We don't have much information on the matter but witness say it might have been assisted suicide.

The hacker girl has the most repulsing and grating voice I've ever heard and I listen french people daily that's telling.

OH MY DEUX EX HYPERTUBE

Honestly, this anime is so fucking bad it looped into becoming good in my mind, I've felt these last 2 episodes to flow relatively nicely onto one another despite having the worst writing in possible any anime of the last 10 to 14 years, can't say 15 because that would include Mirai Nikki lmao.

I'm just waiting for the dialogue revealing the most obvious twist in fiction history:

"-WAIT DO YOU MEAN?!
-EXACTLY, SKINNER WAS THAT OLD BEANIE WEARING BUM YOU WALKED PASS IN EPISODE 3!
-NO IT'S IMPOSSIBLE, HOW COULD WE MISSED HIM?!
-WELL, IT BECAUSE HE WAS WEARING SUNGLASSES DESPITE EVERY SINGLE INDIVIDUAL WHO WATCHED THIS SHOW HAVE CLEARLY NOTICED IT WAS HIM BECAUSE HIS BEARD AND SKIN COMPLEXION WAS EXACTLY THE SAME AS ANY TIME WE SEE SKINNER ON SCREEN!
-WAIT, SO YOU'RE TELLING ME THE PEOPLE WHO WROTE THIS SHOW THOUGHT PEOPLE WOULDN'T NOTICE A GUY IN FRONT OF THE CAMERA FOR 10 WHOLE SECONDS IN A WHOLE MAN HUNT ANIME ABOUT JUST FINDING THAT ONE GUY?!
-EXACTLY"
This is so dumb as shit, the reciprocity of Tchekhov's gun strikes again in proving how fucking incompetent most anime writers are. I've gotta say Watanabe you could have hired me I would have done a way better job salvaging this garbage.

The aftermath of previous events leaves few Lazarus members stagnant: Axel barely survives a direct harpoon hit, Doug lies in a Pakistan hospital under watch, and Rogue INSCOM officers still detain Lindemann. Good news, a hacker in Pakistan took care of Eleina and then revealed that he is one of the pain-immune islanders Dr. Skinner helped relocate (which explains her loyalty to him). Both girls team up to find Skinner using a heart monitor tracker and help Doug escape the hospital.
After a failed assassination attempt, a military colonel is willing to throw the shady guy in a suit under the bus, but gets shot before revealing anything. It's too late because Abel Anderson has assembled a team to rescue Lindemann, and the Lazarus team rushes to Skinner's hideout. A Chinese assassin is on the loose, and there’s only 1 day left to stop the virus from destroying everything.
Good episode that wrapped up all emotional business before hitting full throttle toward the show's finale. Hopefully, the wild goose chase after Skinner was worth it.

Skinner is within our reach now. And, he's in Babylonia City, among the homeless community. Axel is bedridden, but is still gonna go after HQ in the next episode, and he has complete plans to take Axel out. The conversation between Chris and Axel was sweet, and they also shared a cute moment. That kiss was cute. I love them both.

Doug and Eleina are coming back. And Rin helped us a lot as well. Donald McDonald is helping us as well. Things are about to wrap up in the next episode. I really hope the conclusion to this story is amazing as well, but I don't want anyone to die in this. Although looking at the preview of the next episode, the possibilities seem bleak for Axel. I hope all of our crew survives this.

Somehow, Axel is still alive. Doug too. Good for them. The way Axel was talking about his death to Christine was very Cowboy Bebop. Those who watched it know what I'm talking about. Only that Lazarus just feels like a cheap imitation of Bebop. I wish they had tried to make it more different.

Bruh. Did Popcorn Wizard/Lin literally just give Elaina a bottle of Rooh Afza without preparing it? She does know that you don't drink it directly from the bottle, right? You have to take a few spoonfuls of them and then mix them with water to prepare the drink. Unless this bottle was a readymade version or something, this feels like a funny oversight lol.

They brought back Doctor 909 because their token hacker was in Pakistan lol. Too bad it resurfaced Leland's trauma.

Welp. Shit went from 0 to 100 very quickly. Turns out Skinner was very close to the group all along! What an amazing and original plot twist. I can't believe Skinner was probably the same guy shown in the homeless community in episode 2 or 3 (Idr). Considering there's only 1 episode left, I wonder if they can make a satisfying conclusion that resolves everything.

@lordgaara I've watched enough of Watanabe to know a lot of it is average like this so I guess I didn't really have that expectation. I had hope it might be good, but after the first PV my expectations were low. If there were not so many little things that make no sense with the writing, like they wrote parts without considering if it works with other parts. Eleina is one of the most skilled hackers in the world...yet realistically has only had a few years of being able to familiarize herself with computers... Makes no sense. I think they should have swapped her and Lelands backstory, make her the rich kid who has gone awol and him the one who escaped a cult. That's just one of the MANY little plot holes that take me out of the experience. Other than that, I'm fine with it coasting on the rule of cool. I didn't expect Shakespeare. Then the messaging, it is so bland, just in general the show feels like it was written by a teen using chatgpt for help.

With the finale right around the corner, this episode honestly feels like a slap in the face. Sure, call it a "calm before the storm" if you want, but after the last episode, this just fell completely flat. Nothing really happened—Ash drops a vague line about his past and gets kissed, and... that’s it. One episode to go, and I have no clue how they’re going to squeeze in the action, the Skinner showdown, and the goodbye to the Lazarus crew all at once.

The killer was also the informant—he just has multiple personalities.

Well, it was pretty clear that Axel and Christine were going to have a romantic moment eventually. But what I still don’t get is how that bastard Schneider keeps interfering and covering up his crimes when humanity only has one day left.

There’s just one day left to find Skinner, and they’re closer than ever—he’s been right there the whole time, in the homeless camp (funny, since he showed up from the very beginning. If Doug hadn’t been so blind, he would’ve noticed).

I'd love to hail lazarus as some masterpiece, but people are rightfully holding it up to watanabe's other work and feeling disappointed. Was hoping the plot would slide together approaching the end, but in the penultimate ep it feels less like meaningful exposition and more like obvious, disjointed chekhov's guns are being force fed down the audience's throats. Perhaps if this had been a 24ep series character study and character relationships would not feel so rushed, but things i.e. christine and axel's sudden realisation this ep are like the final nail in the coffin. Truly came out of nowhere, there was no build up and these feel more like cheap grabs from the writers to make us care for characters vis a vis impending tragedy. Also, this Hundun project? Really should have been mentioned earlier than giving Axel plot armour mid-fight. Upsides though, the masterful fight scene choreography combining the grounded environment of pre-vis live action and handdrawn 2d flair, and the style we have come to expect from watanabe. I also appreciate that even in these final scenes the quiet moments, Eleina and Lin, Leiland and cat (lol), bring respite and are given attention amid the action. The series remains unique and pretty to look at but is unable to stand shoulder to shoulder with some of the other works the viewer naturally draws comparison to.

I'm not sure why I pushed myself to watch this whole thing. I thought the show was bad around 4-5 episodes in but I guess I just needed content or something. Its almost crazy how bland this show is despite how hard it constantly tries to have anything appealing about it. I already made the joke about not being able to remember anything about it seconds after watching any given episode but I checked this thread and was like "Did that guy really have multiple personalities?" so yeah, I'm clearly not really absorbing anything. And also of course this show would use such a boring dogshit trope like that. Multiple personalities is the most annoying plot device in the world. If it isn't the result of a literal other lifeform sharing/taking over another body then it is dumb and bad 100% of the time.

Anyway, couldn't really care less what happens in the final episode. I can finally remember that fake Spike is actually named Axel (don't ask me his last name) and that's about it. At this point I'm more interested in the fact that this show is registering in my mind as some sort of anti-content that deletes itself even as I look at it. If I were a blogger or Youtuber I would definitely dig into what exactly is wrong with this show but as it stands I'm not that motivated beyond dumping on it every few episodes.

THEY HAD THE FORMULA FOR GREATNESS BUT THEY RUINED IT... IT NOT THAT THE ANIME IS REALLY BAD.. IT'S PRETTY GOOD.. BUT IT HAD THE POTENTIAL TO BE MUCH MORE THAT WHAT'S BUGGING ME...
SUCH A UNIQUE PLOT AND GOOD CHARACTER BUT THEY DIDN'T MAKE THE ANIME ENGAGING... THAT IS IT LACKS A SERIOUSNESS... THE THREAT DOESN'T MAKE YOU ANXIOUS AND THRILLED.
THAT'S THE PROBLEM... HUMANITY IS GETTING VIPED OUT BUT THE DEVELOPMENT DOESN'T GO ALONG WITH IT.. THERE ARE NO PUBLIC OUTRAGE AND PROTESTS.. PEOPLE ARE NOT TENESED AND NOT PRESSURZINHG THE GOVERNMENT TO FIND THE CURE AND SKINNER..
EVEN THE GOVERNMENT IS NOT MUCH CONCERNED... IT SEEMS LIKE ONLY LAZRUS ARE THE ONLY ONES THAT ARE LOOKING FOR SKINNER... THIS DEVELOPMENT MAKES THE THREAT DOESN'T SEEM THAT SERIOUS.

THE STROY IS PRETTY GOOD BUT THE SETTING REALLY KILLS THE THRILL PART OF THE SHOW... PEOPLE ARE ACTING LIKE THEY DON'T GIVE A FUCK EVEN IF THEY ALL DIE TOMORROW..
THE GOVERNMENT IS BUSY IN SOME DIFFERENT DIRECTION... NO SERIOUS EFFORT IS SEEN TO FIND SKINNER ....
THE SHOW SEEMS TO BE RUSHED... THEY COULD HAVE EASILY MADE THIS A 24 EPISODE LONG SHOW....
THE POTENTIAL THIS SHOW HAD WAS CRAZY BUT IT ENDED BUT BEING JUST A MEDIOCRE SHOW....

It’s a good episode. I really felt a connection to all the characters. But I’m not sure how they’ll manage to wrap everything up next episode. There’s still a lot of stuff that needs to be explained, plus our final action sendoff with Soryu and INSCOM. And presumably some sort of epilogue? Can’t see how they’ll manage to fit all of that into a single episode.

Episode Highlights:

DJ Visionary coming back and giving Leland the heebie-jeebies.

Chris pulling a Dodgeball.

And they actually went for the homeless Skinner twist. I audibly laughed when I heard the confirmation.
