it's some time ago i've watched Cowboy Bebop but i don't remember it being political propagated - there's no current thing that is far fetched or anything as fas as i remember
and i don't mind if politics is presented in anime at all, but i hate it if current political topics that is being propagated IRL is also being propagated in anime
@Uitari You must hate FMA, Pluto, Attack on Titan then, for their influences from Real Life politics, as well as any work or fiction inspired by the fear of Nuclear Annihilation during the Cold War.

Knowing Watanabe's series formula from all his other series, this is a pretty familiar throw away episode that he seems to love to do. Just enough plot to keep the story moving forward but really a whole lot of nothing. Actually, the whole world seems less lived in then his other series. Usually you feel like there is bustling life, but this one is oddly dead even though it is not a post-apocalyptic world. I really hope that the story starts moving forward in episode 3.

I do wish they had stayed away from the comedic element for this series. None of it seems to be landing with me at all this time. The weird way the cops and FBIs cars crisscrossed to make it to the bunker, the silly interview with the gardener, and just the overall interactions. This would be a lot better if it was 95% serious with only a few well timed quips. The English dub is still really annoying, I will definitely rewatch this when it comes out in Japanese.

As for the end of the episode I got a distinct Satoshi Kon vibe from that reveal. So that is pretty neat.

Overall, I am not convinced I am going to enjoy this yet but I am willing to persevere for a while.

@Meritas why would i, that's not propaganda - that's a topic that's interesting, especially in the way it was presented in the listed animes

i'm not against political themes in general

@0207xander it certainly is and a very annoying one as all of the woke ideology is
and it's not about climate change in general, yah there is and was always and will till the end of times, but not the way it is propagated where humans are the main cause and CO2 is depicted as the evil itself

but your insult expose your state of mind, my guess is a woketard or at least a victim of that ideology - anyway, it's not worth to go any further

Nice to see Lavrov and Nebenzya still at work after 19 years, lmao. But seriously, what happened to people by 2044 if the UN is literally falling apart because the local mix of Jobs and Keanu is giving a one climate speech?

@Linebeck_III If we're talking about it, his Wikipedia article is more reminiscent of a fandom wiki, given the more stylish design and unusual amount of small details and personal photos. Even if we imagine that the guy was such a Buddha of modern technology that he even placed all the information about him under a Creative Commons license.

It’s crazy how one episode can change your entire perspective on a story or character. Growing up is realising Dr. Skinner is the good guy and humanity are the bad guys.

Dude dedicated his entire life to the betterment and advancement of the human race, didn’t even patent all the lifesaving medicines and inventions he made and genuinely would give the shirt off his back to a stranger, yet the moment he started preaching about shit that would impact the top 1 percent’s profits like combatting climate change, everyone laughed at and ignored him. The dude lauded as the next Einstein who had done so much for the world, but you doubt him on this lmao. The US walking out of that UN assembly speech on climate change had me cracking up because it’s sadly all too real.

Wiping out humanity with a miracle drug might seem a little harsh, but in Skinner’s mind he’s not doing anything humanity aren’t already doing to themselves. He told them The North Pole is literally gonna melt in 3 years which would mean the end of life as we know it and they ignored em but want to act all scared after he revealed that a drug would do the same 😂 yea we stand with Skinner.

The Lazarus crew are coming together well, Axel continues to be funny af. “We’re like the avengers”, uh more like the thunderbolts or suicide squad actually buddy lol. Christine kicking him out the car when he said how much time he was serving in prison had me dying too. Generally felt like a set up episode to introduce us to Lazarus team dynamic and give context on Skinner’s actions. It was fun tho.

Chad Stahelski’s involvement starts with this episode as well, not a ton of fights today, but you could see the influence briefly. Can’t wait to see what they cook up later.

A few plotholes here:

If you do the math for the MC's prison sentence he escaped 8.2 times. (doesn't add up)

How did they think that Mr. Koboyashi was skinner at all? He looks almost nothing like him, and why would Skinner hide in an unlocked bunker with seemingly one exit that was unlocked, while sitting incapacitated on a chair? (also if skinner is supposed to be this super genius guy, why would they think he would be stupid enough to make himself trackable with like 5 mins of deep dive research?)

My takeaway from this episode is that Mr Skinner is living happily in his own house disguised as his gardener while these guys will be spending the next ten episodes with filler action sequences finding this out.

I don't know guys what we expected from Shinichiro Watanabe but this anime feels extremely uninspired to me at this moment.
@Ishitateso Yeah I agree with you on the second part; it is kinda bland and this episode has like 4 plotholes. I already posted them in this discussion.

Pretty mediocre episode. Still got a laugh at the question to the FDA (currently getting funding cuts) and the US being the first to walk out of the speech about climate change. Way too real.

Noted, Lazarus is the Suicide Squad minus the typical comic book powers. Funny that as I thought that they mentioned The Avengers

Scientist was pretty prepared to drop off the map for the cure huh, only one trace from years ago. But all adventures need a starting point (even tho obviously he won't be right there). Nice to get to know the rest of the crew a little more on the trip. Noted that the woman's a hacker.

Respect the scientist dude setting up decoys. Welp, surely another group I'd backing him to gather 100,000 fakes. Or he promised them the cure on his own..

With the ending sequence of the episode we see axel getting up while everyone else is down. Axel asks whether anyone used hapna but then hesitated his response. If he has been in prison for at least 3 years, its possible that he never had a chance to take it so hes gonna be the only one not dying.

The second episode was terrific, just like the first. The animation, the story, the characters, the music, the dialogues, the humor—I adore every single bit of it and honestly don't understand all the harsh opinions. The Mexican slang was the best part of this episode... no, seriously, what is up with the dialogue being so uninteresting and none of the jokes landing? I only laughed when that guy said in Spanish "bring the doctor, kill those sons of bitches". I assume th series is gonna get better, right?... right?

I feel like they should’ve at least gotten some info from Kobayashi, even if he doesn’t seem to know anything. Things are getting interesting now that there are over 100,000 lookalikes of Skinner. It’s definitely going to be a long ass journey to find him.
Also, the music in this show is insanely good. I catch myself vibing to it the whole time, and the ending is just next level.

lol the same cop again.

Skinners motives dont make sense fully yet. What does global warming have to do with people wanting to not live in pain, I get it might be a symbolic message but the guy basically fucked over everyone that ever had an injury assuming he isnt just bluffing. If he was smart he would have better targetted the correct people not take a bunch of innocent people too

Pretty good second episode fr so Skinner was trying to warn the world about the Ice Caps melting only for lots of UN members to leave their seats forever, and I’m not surprised United States walked away immediately when bro was speaking. And to think that Skinner’s decision to end the world might be right in order to save the ice caps from melting and causing sea levels to rise significantly, but bros still crazy tho💀

Im loving the crew so far everyone is really chill asf and this episode in itself was actually relaxing to watch bc of how chill the vibe is between these characters, Axel saying “what are we? The Avengers” was so funny bc I thought the same shit before he said it, like these niggas the new Thunderbolts?🤣🤣🤣

I guess we now know how Axel got his 888 year sentence, bro just kept escaping and escaping bc he’s addicted to the rush of escaping and Christine shoving bro out the car bc she thought he was a murderous villainous monster was jokes man she didn’t hesitate pushing bro out the car and leaving him there😭😭😭😭

The scene where all those characters were pulling up with guns and shit was so hectic I loved it, I was so confused as to why so many characters pulled up shooting like it’s the Wild West but when those characters that said they were FBI and DEA had me even more confused but Axel making me laugh by saying “Lazarus” like it’s an official department of the police/government🤣🤣🤣

Anyways great episode I wonder where this Skinner dude is and why 100,000 of his faces appeared of surveillance cameras when Elaine was looking for him?🧐🧐🧐🧐🤔

The fact Axel capitulates so quickly to Hersch's request he'll join her crew is out of character that they just started to build and took the time and effort to show he's exactly the opposite of someone who'll surrender easily. He doesn't threat her that he'll sabotage her operation nor that he'll go after her if she'll keep on trying to take away his freedom.

Inconsistencies like these really hinder a viewer's ability to find some common ground with the protagonist, since he has no spine.
