Rentt is definitely surpassing expectations and makes the exams looks easy, at least from his perspective. However, the exams themselves are no jokes when it throws surprises at the examinees. We also do get to see how he interacts with other party members this episode. |

What I love the most is that the guild prepare oral exam for people that can't read, it's a nice little thing like this that touch me. |

Rentt in his natural environment, helping and teaching others the ways of adventuring. The depth given to adventuring and rank progression is very thoughtful and inspiring, emphasizing the importance of knowledge and the value of information. |

One could only dream of having friends as reliable as Rentt's. From ghoul to corpse demon, Rentt has been Existential Evolution. His appearance has become much more human-like, and he now desires to take on requests from the Adventurer's Guild and build up his achievements. However, despite being a seasoned adventurer of the copper rank, Rentt's contributions to the guild are significant, and many know his original identity. With the cunning advice of Lorraine, Rentt registers with the guild under a new identity, starting anew as an iron-ranked adventurer. Ah, an exam, huh? Well, you can't have a fantasy anime without one, right? But seriously, are they really only using that same old Labyrinth? Talk about luck, or lack thereof, for Rentt. It's frustrating how none of these adventurers thought about the possibility of the map being outdated or bothered to check the date like Rentt did. I didn't even notice it myself until Rentt started fighting those adventurer's, but he's definitely come a long way since we first met him. A stroll through the Labyrinth of the Reflected Moon wouldn't be complete without Rentt taking on a boss. Just another opportunity for him to grow through Existential Evolution. |

@IzanaSolos Well there are only two or so labyrinths around, so it's not really matter of choice. As for not checking map, I think it's natural to trust institutions in general, even if it often bite people in ass. But I think adventurer guild in this world or at least in this town seems worthy of trust, considering they teach adventurers scepticism and caution, by letting them get burn during exams. |

Nice, a show with rank-up challenge that's not retarded/ half-ass , unlike most of the Isekai shows or Solo leveling. They test your wit, observation , combat style, adaptability, even if it's only a lower rank-up test. I want to see how challenging the test can become in higher rank-up test. This show really reminds me a lot about Frieren since the author took its time to come up with test that make sense. (instead of just using brute force to pass everything) Guess that's why I enjoy watching it despite the overall slow pace of the story. |

@IzanaSolos Ahahaha, just look at internet, how people don't even check the video/ article posting date before trusting the outdated info It totally make sense that people are often overconfident and careless. But it's not just Rentt that get to the final boss room, that 4 thug-like adventurers reach the boss room too, so it means they knew the map is a trap too. |

Another solid episode from pretty solid show. The slower pace really works for the show, and they fill it with nice world building details (the dangers of outdated maps, the oral exam for the illiterate, the preparation the guild takes for the exam, etc.). When there is action, it is pretty well choreographed and animated. I like that Rentt did not consult Lorraine about the use of her last name for his new identity. (She has been shown be pretty tough and smart, but she get flustered by sharing a last name with him. She is so in love.) On a side note, I was hoping to see Rina again at some point. I though she might be also taking the bronze test or maybe assisting the guild with it. I wonder how she has been doing since Rentt ghosted her. |

@Tenzen12 It got a bit skipped, but the manga shows WAY more in-depth changes to the layout of the dungeon. It's also a bit more cave like and I'm a little bummed they skipped the orc fight since it provided a bit of lore on dungeons as well as monster hunting field guide stuff, but they might address it next episode. What I like is that the series emphasizes actual field training for adventurers as well as the guild actually having experienced people train rookies the entire point of the fake attack is to see how they handle human opponents and the dated map to see if they pay attention to seemingly minor, but important details. |

@doomrider7 Well anime is not adaptation of manga but of novel though and honestly if in manga difference was that big, than it means author of it didn't really thought it trough. Dungeon doesn't just completely change without anything big happening to it. Ether way I do like how exam was handled too. |

The LN references the changes as well, I just went with the manga since we get a more visualized confirmation of the changes(guild map is more plain, bought map is more detailed). It's more of a visual thing(the LN also emphasized that Rentt knows the seller). |

Most series usually do the generic, "Hunt this thing or bring this item". Here, the guild itself is actively participating in the exam to see if you've actually been paying attention and can hold your own. |

I guess for a mere Iron rank taking down three orcs solo should had been a tricky task. A broke academic that can also fry anyone that tries to harm her sure lol. First rule on adventuring is always gonna be getting good intel. The teamwork between Ryze and Laura was pretty good. The fact that they had to fight against fellow humans though was a harsh reality for them though. Wouldn't be much a trial if the guild didn't have safeguards in place i guess. Curious to see how they would fare in the boss fight. |

The author could have chosen a different name for the protagonist other than Rentt. Odd choice. It feels nice that we got to see an ascension test without having an absurd op power and clearing it effortlessly. Glad we got to see a level-headed protagonist and we got to see his improvement too. |

Lorraine was more surprised about the Vivie bit of Rentt’s new name than him recycling the first name. I know it’s common but cmon lol Time for the Bronze rank exam and honestly I’m very impressed with how the author distinguishes this series’ exam from other fantasy exam arcs. It really tests the exam takers capacity to be an adventurer. Their aptitude, adaptability etc. Paying attention to details is an important part of this line of work as well. Not verifying the map is in date could lead to death in the real world so it was cool to see Rentt teaching his two party members about that. There’s a big focus on the little details that might not cost you in the exam, but can be fatal in the real world. Much more interesting than your “go here and retrieve this” type of exams. Also the guild preparing an oral exam for those that can’t read is a very neat detail. The other adventurers who were talking shit to Rentt and his group went in the boss room and came running right out lmao. All that bark and no bite. So far liking this a lot, very excited for the next episode. I think this is criminally underrated |

The exam for upgrading your rank is probably the most in depth exam I’ve seen, at least one of them. It was very interesting seeing all the different tricks the guild uses paired with the newbies’ reactions, Rentt sure knows his way around it too, I’m guessing he’s taken the exam several times before. And Ryze and Laura aren’t a bad team despite being blueberries basically, I’ve enjoyed Ryze’s development especially, also he looks like Shirou from the fate series lol, and Laura is cute herself. |

Rentt is really good in his sensei role, teaching those two newbies how to be a clever adventurer. As other have mentioned the exam just to be a bronze class is pretty extensive, I thought they would just have to do a simple task and be done with it. People in the guild are getting suspicious about this new Rentt guy though, especially now that Rentt has disappeared. |

"There's no shame for an adventurer in avoiding a fight you can't win" Rentt Vivie If the goon squad of Dungeon Meshi would have an ounce of Rentt's insight and knowledge they wouldn't be in such much trouble to begin with. Rentt's dungeon experience comes at the expense of losing his humanity for being hasty in his early expedition. But most of what he showed up in this episode was just basic observation skills, such as looking at the map's date, or looking at the floor of the dungeon for such an odd monster lure pouch. Even if this show goes from barebones to average animation, and very by the book power scaling, the character progression of Rentt carries quite hard this show and in my books this is the superior dungeon crawler show this season. @Atomisten He already took the bronze exam before, so he knows that the guild would set up an ambush for the rookie adventurers. Most likely just like the event in the boss room he knows there would be guild assistants taking out injured or disabled adventurers and this should also fit in to defeated guild members acting as villians. |

@Arrow02 Tbh that's the average show quality really. Nothing more, nothing less Not every anime get the dream director/ manpower/budget like Frieren/ Jujutsu. This episode skipped a few things which is a bit of shame as they do some lifting for World Building as well as character stuff. Not sure if it'll be brought up later so spoiler marking it, but do recommend reading. The orc meat Rentt acquired can be gathered one of two ways. Either you hunt orcs out in the wild which is much harder due to their greater experience and knowledge OR you go into the Dungeon of the New Moon(same as the exam is being held) where one of the floors is full on forest biome(Think the Nokron/Siofra River areas in Elden Ring or the Chalice Dungeons from Bloodborne are a better comparison or some of the Sword Trial floors in Breath of the Wild) and hunt the respawning ones there that haven't had time to gain more experience and knowledge. This also veered into an explanation about dungeons. The dominant theory is that they are created using spatial magic to create sort of pocket dimensions biomes, but nobody knows who or how they were made as the mana requirements are astronomical. The monsters in them also operate in a sort of respawn mechanic similar to what you see in the aforementioned games(Elden Ring and BotW) in that after a period of time, the monsters respawn from the coagulation of the mana. The monsters DO need culling from time to time as being left unchecked can lead them to becoming a horde wave. They also skipped the trip to the dungeon where Rentt pesters the carriage driver about directions to the dungeon as well as Laura and Raiz discussing if they can trust the mysterious masked stranger with them. |

Kimurah said: He already took the bronze exam before, so he knows that the guild would set up an ambush for the rookie adventurers. he did say that his task was collecting herb for the bronze exam. so that's not it. furthermore the exam as usual was way too hard. it's fkin bronze for god's sakes. the only reason it's hard is for MC to shine. Then what's the point of telling the sneaking guy about the "villains". that's his job anyway MC telling him does nothing, his party could have heard him which he didn't want since he told them that those are bad guys not guild testers. it's just very lazy writing. their whole purpose was to show how OP MC is. it's cliché as fk. too hard exam for bronze, brainless comments to random ppl just so we the viewers know that he noticed the sneaking guy, despite making 0 sense storywise for him to whisper him to get them. it's just a cliché power fantasy: "oh he is strong, he knows more than he lets on" it's too childish. there were many bad clichés throughout the episode. and when i say cliché, my problem is that humans don't behave like that, yet it's a common trope in anime. it's garbage. |

Omg I’m really loving this anime man I love how it delves into what being a true adventurer is, I don’t think I’ve seen an fantasy anime that focuses on that which is a cool thing that stands out from the rest of the other fantasy/isekai shows🔥🔥 The slow pacing this anime has and isn’t rushing things is what makes this anime even better, it’s a nice to see Rentt slowly becoming a mythril class and not just speed running his way up to the top The Laura girl is pretty cute with his one eye covered and Lorraine looking FINE ASF as usual in this episode she’s one of the reasons why I’m watching this show😭😭😭 The ending song is so perfect and soft it really fits the nature of this show and the art is just fucking amazing man, the animators really put in some passion with this show😊 |

This isn't a knock against the series but more personal preference, and because ultimately it's far too early (especially because I have no idea and have no way of knowing yet how long this show will go on to be in the long run - there's the length of this first season, but then whether or not that'll be it or if it will go on to have another or multiple more seasons of whichever length at some point) to determine whether this is a good or bad thing in the sense of benefiting the show or not, but it's funny - Usually in series when they introduce a new character, even in the earliest episodes after the first like Rina Rupaage in the second episode, my reaction leans more toward not caring for them and not wanting them to become part of the core main group (then sometimes I change my mind quickly or later - it depends and is obviously a case-by-case basis) since I get comfortable and familiar with the dynamics introduced in the very first episode already. But here it's in the minority of cases where I actually had the exact opposite reaction compared to usual. I liked Rina quite quickly and wanted her to become more of a main or frequently recurring character early on. She possibly/probably will later on, but I've been somewhat surprised/knocked off-balance not to see her appear again since. This is still either my second or third favorite new seasonal of the season, after Meiji Gekken: 1874 and possibly Sasaki to Pii-chan. |

@Tenzen12 oh are you mad that your fav anime is garbage? don't worry you will survive. try to get out to fresh air instead of being a loser introvert shutin who watches rule34 from this anime on a daily basis. yes it was garbage. giving everyone a fake map on an exam is laughable. what if participants dont have enough money for new maps. plus they said carriages might have took them to different place. LOL. imagine you having a math exam (in a couple of years when you graduate... FROM KINDERGARTEN) and the math teacher gives you false exam while the real one is in your hidden drawer of desk... and after you find it YOU HAVE TO PAY FOR IT...then finally you start to concentrate on the problems HE SUDDENLY TRIES TO STAB YOU. LOL. sure that's bronze exam for you. this is some super garbage and you are coping hard. |

@Atomisten Not angry only calling garbage argument garbage. After all you even proved that you dont have idea what are you talking about, because there was no fake map and there was no need spend any money. Well considering you are probably troll (I am giving you benefit of doubt as otherwise it would make you just plainly stupid), I will leave at that. Feel free to have last word. |
