I read parts of the manga before so kinda got what was expected from the first episode.

There's the reincarnation and otome themes. Some of the cast has colorful personalities with their red colored uniforms. Yumiella is definitely the most noticable character in the first episode, even with her deadpan-like face. There's also the magical academy themes that has been a popular recurring trend these years. Seems like it has some potential.

You're all familiar with the drill—it's that time again for the seasonal villainess anime.

Meet Yumiella Dolkness, your average antagonist in an otome RPG—except there's a catch. She's not just any villain; she's the secret powerhouse hidden boss. But here's the thing: Yumiella wasn't always the menacing character you see now. In her past life, she was just a shy college student who loved gaming.

When she discovers her reincarnation as the hidden boss, Yumiella is determined to steer clear of the main characters and avoid the fate that typically befalls villains. All she really wants is a quiet, peaceful life. The problem is, her gamer instincts take over, and she can't resist maximizing her level to 99 during the time she has before entering the academy.

The twist? When everyone finds out about her impressive stats, they jump to the wrong conclusion—now, they mistakenly believe she's the Demon Lord! Yumiella just wanted a low-key life, but her gaming tendencies might have thrown her into a bigger adventure than she bargained for.

When it comes to the best Tuesday anime this season, there's not a ton of competition—it's pretty much the only one airing. But you know what? It's not too bad. I'm actually looking forward to this one.

Nice first episode. The last anime I've seen sharing the same genre was Hamefura. It was good and now this one looks promising.

I hope fmc will be cool and not too cheesy to my liking.

Start was a bit like a generic VN but it did a good job at explaining the background.
And we didn't have to look much at a background story either and go on with the storyline which seems interesting i wonder if the main will have her peaceful life or not.
Things are starting hectic for her tho.

This is not just any overpowered lead, it's "female" overpowered lead, which is very rare, especially in otome genre. So even though there a probably a dozen "villainess" anime like this, none is probably as strong as this anime lead. I can't wait for an era when the majority of overpowered characters in anime are female!

Damn, they waste all the first part of the episode with these non-factor crappy characters even if i admit they did a good job doing it like a game, but the good thing is that now all the episodes left will focus on Yumiella adventures only and this is what matter. :)

Was surprised we followed the pink haired girl the first half, after the description and key visual, nice fake out. Not a bad start, but hopefully I'll come to like the villainess, she looks already op so hopefully I won't get bored fast.

That horse cgi looked so bad.

Wow the animation at the beginning was a big turnoff but the show overall seems like a good start. Didn't need yet another isekai this season but at least it's not the typical garbo like Solo Leveling.

The CGI carriage market seems to be blooming in japan...

That fake otome game intro alone was a 10/10, they know their craft. It is like an inverse character hair color meme, if you have a basic color you are evil.

That was fun, and I'm a big fan of that expressionless look of MC, looking forward to the rest of the show.

TRUCK-KUUUUUUUN~!!!!

Seriously, so much chaos caused by one diabolical entity.

The troll fake start was amusing, though perhaps went on a bit too long and only left enough time for a perfunctory intro to the actual MC; the second part felt like going through a quick bullet point list to catch the viewer up to speed. (Though if being fair, that kinda fits with her rather brusque personality haha)

pink is cute and airhead, surprised no one says anything about her not being a noble, in other anime we would have plenty of people saying stupid stuff
the prince, and the others as well, are pretty friendly so far

wow the villainess herself looks great, but wanting a peaceful life might be too much when you grind to max level before going to school lol and she wanted to keep leveling, might not be possible

also... actually, didn't she have the level check in the game? or did she skip through boring stuff like i do? :D

Probably because it's cheaper to animate, and not really that important
I don't see why people care so much about stuff like this as long as the art is good for the main characters and at least ok for everything else

I really like the fake episode to start this show. I know it is obviated by the name of the series, but still... even though the fake out does not really work, it still helps establish the world, minor characters, etc. (And is pretty funny.)

I know there has been a recent mini-boom of otome isekai, but they all seem to offer something a little different in terms of tone, perspective, and characters. For the first episode, the production values and direction seem on point, and I have heard good things about the source material, so I am looking forward to this one.

@Drexiel

Agreed. For what it is worth, by all accounts, horses are incredibly difficult and time consuming to draw/animate in a realistic manner. I can hardly fault the animators for not going double plus ultra on this aspect.

I think they did a great job with this, it works great as an introduction of the game and the game's protagonist POV, and reduces significantly the amount of monologues we'd get from Yumiella, which in anime like these tend to be really boring. On top of completing throwing off some people who didn't even bother to read anything the synopsis, which is pretty fun if u ask me.

Let’s go, can never have enough villainess shows in one season. I welcome this trend

Carriage CGI aside, solid introduction to our cute commoner heroine. Alicia already getting attention from a prince, a minister son and more on her first day at the academy. Not bad for someone who’s there on scholarship. Gotta make sure she’s on time though πŸ˜‚

Wait is that the actual OP?? I guess they went for the traditional otome game VN style? That’s new

Ahh, went into this blind so I didn’t know it was an isekai and that Yumiella was the MC. They definitely went with a unique introduction by starting with Alicia and the side characters introduction as opposed to the actual isekaiee. Also explains the game style OP. Kind of a cool twist that gives a lot of characterisation to the side characters. Usually the other female lead is introduced as an antagonist or something later.

I like that Yumiella isn’t all lovey dovey with the main characters either like most people who get isekai’d into these games are. Her just wanting to avoid them all and live a chill life is funny and makes this a different feel than Wataoshi or Hamefura

Too bad that quiet life is not gonna happen after that level appraisal scene πŸ˜‚ this first episode blew by, I’m really looking forward to seeing Yumiella just try and get by peacefully. As an introvert this should be great.

The real OP is actually a banger wow! Very well directed episode that sold what makes this different from other villainess shows. I love Yumiella’s stoic personality already.

@goodbyedays
If Hamefura was your only experience with anime like this then you're in for a ride. I think this one is much more fun and the romance is way less cringy, on top of not being a reverse harem, it just was way more natural, I'll give credit for hamefura for introducing me to this genre and I quite liked the 1st season too but I kinda hated the rest and know so many other villainess stories better than it now.
Anyway, putting all that side, Yumiella reactions in the manga are hilarious and I can't wait to see them animated, hope you like it too.

It's not just the carriage, it's also the horse, the driver, the living armors, the skeletons, the dragons and whatever else we'll see in future episodes. As long as they keep showing it, I'll keep bringing it up.

It's fine for people to enjoy the fake out, there's no problem in that, but it doesn't change what I said.

you just mentioned stuff that probably barely even flashed on the screen for more than 5 seconds each, nitpick all you want but doesn't change the fact it's all pretty irrelevant stuff so far, and the key moments looked pretty good

Doesn't change about being wasted? well if you think so then good for you, I guess if you'd prefer to have 15 minutes of monologue of Yumiella explaining the game then that's your problem, I for one prefer when they show, not tell.

I find it funny that they listed the actual VA characters as their voice actors in the game itself.

@Marinate1016 I like how this show contrasts with other villainous otome anime, where the writers usually try to show the depth of the game characters as token real people. Here the MC seems to be the straight man among the flat NPCs. Although I don't know if this show will be as ironic about tropes as Bakarina.

@Abesh_Aziz I could say that choosing tomboy typecasting VA was an unusual decision for such a character, if it didn't turn out that this is her third villainous otome anime already, lol.

While have mixed feeling about wasting 1/2 of the ep. time for side charas and literally speedrunning the opening part / childhood part, at least they did an ok job at telling the important part of it. I still recommended to read the manga for the childhood part since they remove quite a bit of stuff from the story. Hope they didn't speedrun other part of the story again.

As I've read the first couple of LN volumes...some time back...
Yes, the first half had me thrown initially, had to double check I hadn't accidently clicked the wrong link.
Then I realized it was the otome game itself as the intro.
Unexpected, yes, but it provides everything we need concerning the background setting in one sitting.
Then we shift to how it starts to go off the rails.

It gets across that our reincarnator, while a fan of the game, wasn't just an otome game player but rather a Gamer of the most focused kind.
Sure she knew the game setting, but I'd say she didn't play it for the romance aspects, rather for the combat settings.
She knew all the relevant tricks for speeding up her experience gains and despite it now being Real Life had no problem with loosing an arm in combat as she could just recreate it using Darkness Magic; I'm sorry but that has to hurt so being nonchalant really says how focused she is on leveling.

Concerning the carriage horses.
Yes, you can tell it's a CGI loop, but I get that they're tricky to hand animate and by now it's almost a trope in itself, right next to Truck-kun.
Far better used for this aspect of the production than what I suffered through with Ao No Orchestra, where the CGI was used for ensemble performance and was ghastly, truly cringe inducing.

I see Truck-kun has been busy again. :D

And I'm always impressed when they create an entire opening for the original game.
