Was that some kind of sexual allusion, referring to the courtisan joke she had terrified the attendant with earlier? It is funny, because this exact scene and hand motion is in my forum avatar and as it turned out I just don't get what she is trying to pull with it. P.S.: Ok, after having thought about it I maybe get it now. She is hiding that part of her face that is usually masqueraded with freckles trying to make the bullies realise that she is actually the ugly girl they are talking about. |

| @CaptainKenshiro It was extremely clear though? Lishu (the 14y old concubine) is the mother in law to 35y old Ah-Duo. And she became such at age of 9. And one of meanings of hairpins will be cleared next ep. |

I'm still not fully onboard with the Maomao and Jinshi ship, but it's nice to see how much he genuinely cares for her. |

Gyokuyou's other ladies getting offended on behalf of the Maomao slander made them even more likable than they already were but it's kinda funny how pretty much every other concubine's party is mostly filled with jerks. Also, everything about the previous emperor and Lishu is bleak. Damn. |

Is Maomao a masochist?
She likely knew about her allergy and wanted her to break out in hives but didnt realize how serious it could get. That is why she had a sinister grin after tasting the food because she noticed a mistake had been made.
I dont think the hand gesture meant anything obscene. I think it is actually a humble gesture but i dont know the exact meaning. She was using the hand gesture to hide from others the threatening expression she made as a reminder of a previous threat she had made.

| Maomao might be the only person ever who enjoys to taste poison :D. Also I've learned something else from this episode... I'd never want her on my bad side (although she was nice to the mean attendants, offering them the hot stones). Ha ha, to see how popular she got with all these hairpins (who's an ugly duckling now!?). But I love her for her reactions :D<3. Her imagination running wild about Jinshi again. But I think there is something else behind it. Still I wonder whose hairpin he was wearing (also Maomao thought he looked better this way ;). Sorry but the former emperor was so gross for marrying a nine-year old! I know at that time girls were married off pretty young but this is... ewww. So she was the one who was supposed to eat the poison (on a side note, who'd beneift from this if they knew the food is gonna be tested for poison)? If I understood it correctly her poison tester had to do with it and the switching was an accident? Or did she do it on purpose because she knew she couldn't eat the fish anway? Which means someone else would have intended to kill her by using poison except it ended up on the wrong side (according to the preview for the next episode it seems like it). Not my favorite episode tbh but I still enjoyed/liked it and Maomao made up for it :D <3 |

| I personally prefer to compare MaoMao with Dr. House instead of Sherlock Holmes. And people thinking they figured out Jinshi are clearly missing some other hints regarding his look. |

| the way maomao giggled at the baby.... absolutely adorable. would've never pegged her as someone whose good with children so that was a surprise! also, poor jinshi... he keeps trying to woo the girl while maomao keeps assuming that he's getting it on with some hunks when she's not looking hahaha |
