Generous I'd say? If an anime doesn't have something that I absolutely hate the guts of, I try to be as lenient as I can.

More like too middling? I give a lot of 7s and 8s
Some of you never watched Bakugan Battle Brawlers on TeleToon in 2008 and it shows.

I feel like it’s hard to give a lot of shows a low score. I spend a wicked amount of time researching potential anime to watch that I’m almost assuredly to like it. Every now and again one slips by me but more often than not, I make safe choices from the start. Some of y’all are wacky and just boot up random titles off Crunchy Roll on a whim lol Couldn’t be me.

I guess I’m on the harsher side. If you select an anime at random I’ll probably think it’s a 4 or 5. My average score is a 6.1 because most of what I pick I think I’ll like although occasionally I’ll pick something to try something new.

I think it’s better to have more nuance at the top end than comparing anime that are marginally better than another in the average range. Part of this is just a limitation of only allowing integer scores

I'd say I'm generous because I don't like to give low scores (though it's because I haven't encountered an anime I actually disliked).

I'm considered myself on the generous side since I judge based on enjoyment.
But if there's a large audience calling something masterpiece, oh heck I will be harsh if required to make sure it is goat like they say it is.

All down to taste most of the time. I know what types of show I don't like too.

If, like me, your goal is to have a list to keep track of the anime that you like the most and how they stand out from the rest, then the score necessarily becomes harsher when you watch more anime. If all the anime you watch all get generous scores, then the list fails to achieve its purpose of letting you remember which ones were the best.

I'd say that my scores are super harsh. I actually only go by a binary. If I can complete it, it deserves a 10. But if it's horrible—to the point of me dropping it—it doesn't deserve even a 1. It's too generous.

i dont score anymore because obsessing over the score took away from my enjoyment of the anime lol
but i used to be a generous scorer, cuz i kinda felt like the anime would feel sad if i scored it too low
my brain is like this unironically

I typically only use the 5-10 scale, and getting a 5 means nothing new is contributed, and it isn't even that entertaining. However, I'm starting to make use of the entire scale, and anything lower than 5 is considered something that made me want to claw my eyes out and made me lose brain cells. And to be honest, if it's not as bad (or worse) than 11eyes, the lowest I'll give is a 2.

I consider myself a generous scorer. I don't believe I have anything rated below a 4, and I already consider 4-5 to be harsh. I tend to give scores between the 7-10 range.

I'm harsh on anime that get 5-8, as most people rate them higher than I do. Most of the time, when I give an anime a 7, the rest of people have given it a 7.4 / 7.7 or something. There are a lot of overrated anime in this score range.

I'm strict on what gets a 9 or 10, regardless of what the rest of consensus says. I never jump to give a 10 for no good reason, since my score influences the average a small amount.

I'm generous in the sense that I rarely give 1-3. An anime must be indefensible, horrid, and otherwise offensive (to the point of damaging society through its sheer existence, and bad themes or calls to action) for me to give one a very low score. Those scores are reserved for the truly reprehensible.

Generous! My mid is 6, not 5.

Honestly, maybe the mal scores affect my scores too. I do think a bit before rating any show tho.

when i first started scoring stuff i was insanely pretentious and felt most anime deserved somewhere between a 2-6. i would zero in on all the things i didn't like and forget everything else i enjoyed. if something got a 7+ from me, i considered it a hall-of-famer

now i rarely give out anything below a 5 (mid) unless it truly does something to deserve it. but there's also the fact that i just end up dropping something i know is going to be below average

I think that I am generally a generous scorer. That may be also because I like the great majority of shows that I watch. I truly have to hate a show or to think it is just too bad to have it lower than a 5: The Promised Neverland S2, Golden Boy, Platinum End, Shaman King and Mob Psycho S1. Every other anime that I have rated is either a 5 or better. I score based on the MAL scale. If I thought that an anime was just fine it is a 6 for me, as MAL has it named like that. After that I mainly just use pure comparison between shows to rate them.

Critical and bias are better adjectives to describe my given scores. Despite I dote on my favorite comedy and action animes, they are not free from the pitfalls off-loose.

I like to see myself as a fair scorer. I'm not some self-proclaimed critic who'll only gives 1-5 because the anime didn't meet my every single demand. But I'm also not the type to rate everything starting at 7 cuz "all anime is good anime". I will score exactly what I think it deserves with no bias or need to prove how exquisite my tastes are

I'm definitely generous. Mostly because I'm not super critical. If it were a Hollywood or Disney production with some huge budget, then I would be more critical, but most of these studios and their employees work hard on anime because of their love for the field.
If the voice actors are bad, I can get past that, if the animation is subpar, I can get past that, if the music is eh, I can get past that...But, if the story sucks or then nothing can help that.

obviously there is no "objective" or "correct" way to score. but I'd like to think I don't have a single show that I have been unfair to and given it an outrageous score.

I tend to feel like I'm pretty generous, especially because even if I hate a show it's getting dropped and left unrated. I also have a rule of always rounding up so there's that.

A feel-good scorer. If an anime gives me good feeling, I give it a high score, and vice versa. Plot doesn't matter much over the overall satisfaction.

Well generous i guess because since some anime i didnt enjoy at all may be dear to someone else heart and they might be upset if i did rate it bad, i always try to find qualities in stuff more that criticize the bad parts, and if something is really egregious like some pedoshit not even legal anime i would not quote i rather not watch or if i did before being warned on how shitty it was because i sometimes choose next anime to watch by random youtube search and loosing into youtube you can find pearls but also stuff from nightmare then i rather spare other people the knowledge that this shit exist so i very rarely rate anything 5 or under.

I just think if you are more strict with how you rate shows it will make the higher ratings more valuable, there is very few anime that will reach the levels of enjoyment I have with my 10s and I want my ratings to represent that well. Giving everything 7, 8, 9 or 10s would diminish it IMO.

(also rating things low causes more malding which is always fun)

My average score is 6.6 so I guess I'm an average scorer haha.
I don't have a lot of very harsh scores (only nine series rated below 5 out of 345) and just a handful of very generous scores (six series rated 10, twenty-two series rated 9, out of 345).

Most of the time I'm generous with my scores but I've given only a few anime with scores less than 4

It really depends on the show though, like sometimes I give higher scores than it should be

If I really REALLY hated that show then for sure I'll be harsh with my ratings

I tend to get really pumped after I watch something I like and score generously, but sometimes I go back after I’ve thought about it a bit more and lower the score. I realize later when compared to my favorites that maybe certain shows don’t measure up.

But I’m one of those people that even a score of 4 or 5 doesn’t mean I didn’t like that anime. It might have just had some issues, objectively.

I'm fairly generous, as enjoyment is the primary criterion for my scores. As long as a show kept me mildly entertained, it gets a 7. 8-10 are those shows that were especially entertaining to various degrees, and I don't expect perfection from my 10's.

5-6 are reserved for shows that I was going through the motions to complete.

Anything lower had to have been truly awful.

This is a trick question.
In my country I'm considered a harsh scorer cuz my country anime rating site use 5 star rating and most of the anime regardless how meh they are gets a 4~4.9.
For me if i find an anime average, i'd just give it a 3 star or even lower which makes me kinda the harsh scorer.

However, in Mal I'm considered to be generous cuz Ik a lot of reviewers if there's anything they dislike they just give a 2~3 on the score lolz
I think I still give out a lot of 7~8 .

I'd say harsh. I don't get why people rated thing's full of flaw to me as 7. To add to it, I keep score separate from source materials. Like Naruto where most people don't include the filler as part of the series, or how bad goblin slayer's images is compared to the main source's actually interesting character and plot. Or how appreciative I am towards demon slayer despite a fairly mainstream story.
if you want good story, read novel. if you want good graphic, read manga. anime is beyond that.

Both: I only rate shows that deserve it, and it's either 1 or 10 depending on how over/under rated I think they are.

Of course it often happens that this 2-scores system coincides with the rating I would give in a 10-scores system, for instance with the rent a girlfriend you were mentioning.
