| I'm kinda perplexed with the motive to sell out a guy who's indestructible and kills for a living. Why would you want to do that when he's already on your side serving you? You'll just piss him off and give him every reason to go after you. So he wants to leave the village, but the law of the village forbids it umm.. ok but perhaps you should make an exception for him because he can literally kill everyone in the village if he wanted. The motive doesn't make any sense at all. I hope it gets explained deeper as the series progresses because doublecrossing an assassin who doesn't die would be something I'll never do if I was making the decisions. |

Oh yes, it was the weakest point of this episode to me as well. I really enjoyed watching it, but the protagonist and his story felt kinda... weird and unrealistic, because of reasons you have mentioned in your post. Gabimaru gave me edgy vibes, especially in a way he acted like. It became better once he got exposed as somebody lying to others and himself about his mindset but still seeing that attitude back the moment he made his decision on Sagiri's proposition. I also hope this theme will be elaborated upon later on. The show's premise is really interesting, but I wouldn't mind seeing less mysteries there, where mysteries wouldn't work well as plot devices. |

| I planned on reading the manga for this, but never really got round to it. For a first episode it was nothing really that impressive to me. Managed to introduce us somewhat to the main characters and set out the goal they'll be trying to complete. I would say that the premise for this is interesting enough for me to want to watch future episodes, and even read the manga. |

| The episode ended well, but its first 16 minutes were very hard to watch, very bad. I hope that from now on things get better and that those 16 minutes were just a sacrifice to establish some important things. |

I was assuming everybody in the village is just as strong as him and has similar powers and that's why he can't just kill the villagers. Is that not the case? |

| Jigokuraku is one of my very anticipated anime due to the highly advertised trailers and PV that give me a grisly and ghastly feeling, some vibes about monsters, supernatural beings and how people, or I should say the death row criminals survive in this kind of environment, which is called the Kotaku or Shinsenkyo (I'm not quite sure, I am not a manga reader). Episode one is definitely a decent start for the anime, giving me a detailed view into the setting and background of the anime. I particularly like the original soundtrack approaching the end of the anime, when Gabimaru use his Ninjutsu. There is still not much going on right now in the anime and I hope it will develop into a far more intriguing one. Animation wise, it is great as always, sasuga MAPPA. All in all, it is a great start and I expect more from this anime. |

Um where was it mentioned that he is capable of killing everyone in the village? He managed to kill 20 people before getting captured. Yes, he is the strongest. Yes, it is possible he is capable of killing more than 20. But it isn't mentioned that he is strong enough to kill the entire village. |

| Great episode but I really don't get the setup...If he's this strong why doesn't he just escape immediately after being captured, then go back to the village and grab his wife, then leave the village/country? |
