I feel like I'm one of the few people here just watching it for entertainment value rather than just to pick holes in every little thing. Yes it has its pitfalls but it's still fun and doesn't rely on endless over the top fanservice to get by. If you want a bad anime this season go watch Yurikuma Arashi.

Ehhhem Yurikuma arashi is a lot better than this. It has cute bears.

Mate the bears are annoying as hell. Dumbest anime I've ever watched. First I've ever dropped based on first episode alone.

Nothing exciting in this episode, accessible narrative, but uninvolving, a brief smile escaped to me during one of the many battles, the final one was not bad, but far from being beautiful.

I expected more from this. I really liked the light novels, so this is really disappointing. Is 8bit always this bad? They skipped Blaze levels, which was the entire point of the tournament -__-

Anyway, this episode was at least somewhat bearable, unlike last one. Bad animation yes, annoying fanservice yes, most important content cut out yes, but still bearable mostly because of the last part. If only Julie had that cold, piercing gaze more often instead of being just another generic kuudere loli this anime would be a lot better. 2/5, but not dropping. I think.

Bunny sensei fight was decent.

The most standout thing for me was that Funi changed their spelling of Tooru's name from "Thor" to "Tor"...progress? small steps Funi, small steps.

I think these first three eps were alright, Julie mentioning revenge with that cold stare picked my interest more so I'm sticking with this.

like did she actually 'trip'' or jumped on him on purpose.. ??

Totally agree with you there, novels were far far better than this. They skipped to much content and explanations like levels as you said. Where the hell is Mikuni anyway he should be there since Rito showed up for the first time.

Too much fanservice with Julie like the entire anime is only focusing on her - skipping bondage scene with Tomoe or the whole plot of running with Miyabi. As I like Kuudere's I can't bring myself to like Julie for some reason it's like she must get everything because she is alone (power higher than Tomoe's, duo with Tooru, he's affections cause he let's her sleep with him and other things which he shouldn't do, etc.).

Disliked this episode - too much Julie fanservice, too many missed content like lvl things, made Tomoe look weak as hell - she beat Julie and Tooru alone (did much damage) in this case nothing she didn't even landed a hit on anyone of them, Miyabi charge looked awkward as hell - she had trouble with strenght for her blaze to hold up it not with stamina..., Rito was way more awesome than this - when Tooru was blocking her attacks she just attacked his shield only... wtf with that who the hell would keep attacking the same place the entire time - smart person would aim for the legs etc. which aren't covered to make the person cover it when attack pattern changes. Entire episode was crap to me because of such small things which aren't hard too fix if they at least gave it some thought. It's like they are only focusing on romance aspect between Julie and Tooru when it's supposed to be a harem...

We'll it was a decent episode, we got flashbacks to touch upon tor's past, the animation is not that great specially the action scenes.

After seeing Ufotable's animation in the Fate Series the animation quality was set up too high I guess, thats why I'm seeing this scenes a bit of underwhelming.

Welp will still continue to watch this.

Wont lie even though it gets stiff from time to time. the fight scenes are pretty decent for a one cour harem show. considering the budget these guys get is to laugh at.

It isn't UBW level but definitely good in its own way.

Also, Nui Harime is their teacher- love it
How to fix the review section, detailed here

The average reader (HS level) reads at about 200 WPM. So a 500-800 word review should take 3-5 minutes to read. That's an acceptable length for something you're interested in spending 25 minutes to 4.5 hours of your life watching.

Oh, and ANN requires any and all reviews to be 800-1200 words, no matter the length of the show.

I see. That is why seeing them skating in the OP felt weird because they changed the actual animation.

I do have to say, the fights are kind of lame... especially with Hotaka holding that weapon, she almost can't even do a proper thrust as if she can't lift it.

Well that "spear" is more like one giant umbrella, it'd make sense why she couldn't hardly lift the thing.

Anyway, this episode was decent. That whip blade is a pretty crap weapon though in a serious combat situation. Throwing it out is good in tight spaces or long range, but anyone in your face, or worse, behind you, would cut you down before you could even defend yourself. The chain would only cover your front if thrown straight ahead, so your sides and rear are wide open. And that spear would be terrible against something speedy like a pair of daggers, which take speed priority and are far more maneuverable. So honestly, I think this adaption (despite the fact that she was coming after Tooru) was quite accurate in how that fight would have went in their favor.

But what do I know, I only watch the adaptions because I find them more entertaining. Plus I started watching this because of Julie, who I didn't know was the female lead. So I'm happy about that. The teacher gets a thumbs up for ticking my psychopathic woman fetish.

The animation in the new part of the opening is the same as the action scenes in the start of the opening i am pretty sure it is a cheaper way of animating action scenes / high movment scenes. It is kind of like their forms become more loose and they also use a softer colour pallet.

Yes the fights in this anime are very weak the people doing this series can not choreograph a fight to save their life also this anime seems to be another one with just enough budget to make something that is pretty much an advert for the novel and telling people to read that instead.

In the novel if i remember right Hotaka still charged down that narrow hallway but i am pretty sure it was not as pathetic looking like that and was more like an actual charge. Though she still ran out stamina since she is not a fighter like the others and is just beginning to grow and train.

The anime is not really showing it but their strength and speed and all that is enhanced above normal humans and it they will grow more in power as they level up, they are lvl 1 at the moment but even Hotaka is stronger than a normal human which is why she could sort of hold that big ass spear.

This brother (are they brothers? his voice is of girl and the girl who dies in front of Tor got man voice...) that killed people in his dojo reminds me of Sasue and Itachi from Naruto :o

Tor could have bigger shield and without holes in it :/ maybe he get some power up later on?

The cute nurses hoped to fight against boys and lesbians only? :D they got KO from one attack :/

Another absurd moment like in last chapters: first attack of Rito wounded Tor in stomach but her blade landed between them... if some invisible ower would hit Tor it should also hit Julie... how stupid...
and again tripping on flat ground like in episode 2, at least make it so that she trips on rolled up carpet

and someone explain me what was that move with Tor foots that suprised Rito so she had to block his attack? why couldn't she dodge again?
this is really bad :/

I am starting to be disappointed.

I am starting to be disappointed.

I don't understand the first part ...

She fell because she lost strength in the leg, injured in the battle with Rito (in the novel was more obvious).

Rito thought he would try to hit her in the stomach and she could dodge it easily as before; but this time Tooru aims directly at Blaze to make her pass out ... she doesn't understand their strategy and she is put KO ...

About the first part: at minute 13:15 of episode Rito attacks them for the first time but she missed and landed her blaze into the ground (did not touch them), how she wounded Tor with missed attack? With some invisible power?

I also don't see when Julia got injured in leg or anywhere ;/ she could have at least some bandage if she got injured during the fight that was not shown in anime. It just looks like she jumped onto him :/

Lastly I still think Rito could dodge it, they should have make this scene better so that it looks like she HAD to try to block it as a last resort (standing in corner of room or something).

It's all too cheap :/ Still it was ok to watch it.

Fight choreography seems kinda lacking, especially when finishing off Rito. The way Tooru runs around Julie while she blocks Rito's blade is kinda awkward. Then breaking the sword with a punch... kinda jarring no matter how special Tooru's punch is. O.o

As for Miyabi and her lance... looked like one of those weapons which provides its own momentum(?), but I feel her charge could have been animated better.

Also, how does "ai, tu" become "en, to" in the subtitles? (Chihiro's subtitles at least, haven't compared to any others.)

Horribly pathetic battles. Tooru didnt move to the side when Miyabi attacked him and then also didnt deflect the attack? The one that annoyed me the most is the damn teacher kept attacking the same spot so the main character just had to hold his shield in place.

Is it just me, or is the pacing of this show just god-awful?

First off, why in the world did the Sensei suddenly go full Bat-shit Crazy? They're having an official battle, they breeze through all types of opponents (seriously, was the nurse thing in the LN? They tried seducing Tooru to win? What the heck?), end up reaching the lasst couple, only to have the sensei switch to Yandere-mode, no explanation at all, and start trash-talking and murdering her own students.
Then suddenly, the battle is over, and the school authorities have captured said teacher. Why? Who is she? Was she really bat-shit crazy? Or was she putting on an act to get her students to work better together? Literally no explanation provided for anything.

I feel like this show is skipping any and all explanations and is just running away at break-neck speed with the fights here. Apart from the most base of info-dumps, we really know nothing about this world much, not in the least why they need a school for these Blazes, what these Blazes purpose is exactly. AND why the heck some crazy teacher would want to slaughter her own students (I mean, her mentality was like "I'm the only one who should have a blaze, I'll F'ing Kill all the noobs!").

Suddenly we've skipped to the next day where Tooru is so injured that his arm is in a sling and they're having tea?!?! No, "I wonder why our teacher attacked us and tried to slice our asses off". Just a simple "she was caught" "oh, okay", end conversation...... er.... what?
Julie then stands up after his exclamation of pain and suddenly trips over him (it was crazy fast animated, like 2 seconds max), then the girls come in and your regular harem misunderstandings ensue.

Aaaand then suddenly Tooru and Julie are Avengers...... well that escalated quickly....

The lack of proper explanation of things that are happening, the low budget animation, and the weird way we are transitioning from one scene to the next is getting on my nerves.
Right now the one thing holding my interest here is Tooru's flashback of the bladed swordsman and his currently "mysterious reason" for becoming a Blaze.

This. SO MUCH THIS.

A lot of hate for this?

I think the teacher's sword might have been on the light side or perhaps she got used to the heavy weight of the sword and thus she's able to swing with with ease.

The fighting scenes were sloppy but enjoyable. Tooru's fist blast charging a lethal attack, too bad it's too slow to use.

LAME! This episode sucked. None of the characters make any sense.

If someone's Blaze is supposed to be a materialization of their soul, how does the faint-hearted, unconfident, meak Miyabi Hotaka end up with lace larger than her that it looks like she can barely use properly, who did she beat to get past the entrance ceremony; and how does supposed revenge-seeker Tooru Kokonoe end up with a shield???

None of this makes sense, and on top of that, pretty much the whole episode was HORRIBLY executed, dull, boring, and majorly cliche, especially the fight scenes. I am done with this anime.
In the light novels it was explanied that the only reason Miyabi was able to enter was that her oppnent forfited and quit as soon as the entrence ceremony was announced, so Miyabi was able to enter without a fight. If you ask me that is something tthat REALLY should have been left in here.
