what's your opinion on giving a score of 10/10 to an anime just because you enjoyed it?

Frankly speaking, I don't like a list with tons of 10 because it would mean that u enjoy every third anime but it's MYANIMELIST for a reason so it doesn't matter much.

What's wrong with it? Unless you are in a position where people actually look up to your opinions nobody will really care nor be bothered to look at your scorings

i do agree that 10/10s are special and should be reserved for those special animes that really mean something to you but it doesn't have to be an "objective masterpiece" (if one even exists lmfao). if you think it deserves it then go ahead.

if you also rate every anime a 10/10 then i dont really care either. I'm not gonna force you into rating an anime lmao.

There is nothing wrong with giving a lower score to titles you enjoyed more.
For example out of my favourites, i only noted Steins;Gate with 10 and Hyouka with 9. All my other favourites are 8 and bellow, and A series i enjoy on the same lvl as Steins;gate, i gave it a 6, because its not that well written.

If its logical that you wont love every series above a 8/10 or so, why would it be contradictory to score your favourites with scores lower than 10/10?

I think it’s very fair because enjoyment should be the main criteria for rating a anime although I would not give something a 10/10 even if it was the most enjoyable show I ever watched if it it doesn’t impact me in anyway. Grand blue manga is a 11/10 in terms of enjoyment for me and I find Yokohama kaideshi kikkou flawless in every way but I would still give both a 9.5 because it didn’t have a major emotional or thought provoking impact on me. On the other hand even with its many flaws,I would give a silent voice a perfect 10 for me because of the influence it had on me and how it changed my life.

All my ratings are based in enjoyment. If I rate something a 10 then I just really like it, nothing more nothing less.

Scores are always subjective as i have no justification for why i gave TTGL 10
i just enjoyed it too damn much.

The word "masterpiece" is a subjective one anyway, so if you liked the anime a lot then it actually could be a masterpiece, at least to you, and it's your list so that's all that matters.

For me giving an anime a 10/10 means that not only did I enjoy it a lot when I watched it, but I continue to think about it a lot and I felt a deep connection to it. They are all anime I really enjoyed, but there's extra requirements for them to be a 10.

You don't have to do it this way, though. As long as everyone looking at your list knows what it means for you to give an anime a 10 then it's all good.

And those people who say it are retards. What is a "true 10/10"? Its a proven fact not everyone(Yes, not even people who believe they are "objectively rating")rates the same animes a 10/10.

We have people who consider Eva to be a "objective masterpiece". Same with Attack on titan, Steins;gate, and literally every anime you can find that has atleast a 7+ score you will find atleast 1 person who thinks its an "objective masterpiece". And to say "what I think is completely correct" even though others also think the same yet disagree, is pretty pretentious.

So to answer your question OP. There is nothing wrong with rating an anime you enjoy a 10/10. Why? Because first off, every anime technically has a "flaw" according to what the majority considers a "flaw". People will tend to find more "flaws" in an anime they don't enjoy over an anime they do enjoy, which doesn't mean that the anime they enjoy is "objectively better". Since anyone with a working brain knows enjoyment is subjective.

People are able to find more problems with an anime they dislike because they have more problems with it than someone who actually enjoys it.

I kinda find it funny how people also try to say "You can enjoy something but that doesn't make it good!!!"

The point im trying to get across is that just because you like something and think liking it is the "correct opinion" doesn't mean someone else will see that same anime, dislike, and explain their problems with it that they have simply because they didn't enjoy it.

No ones opinion is more "factual" than any others. So most of the time, people are rating on enjoyment in the first place.
I gave up on character of the week since it takes too much thinking. I'll just change my forum pfp to whoever I want every week lol.

I wouldn't do that but other people are free to if they like. besides, even though I don't rate solely based off of enjoyment, it is without a doubt a factor in mine and everyone else's ratings. I mean, like all entertainment media, anime exists to be enjoyed.

I think you can kind of get away with giving everything you enjoyed 10/10 if you only watched a few anime. With more titles, you'll come across a lot of enjoyable shows and to give all of them 10s would just make the rating lose value

By giving a 10/10 that means the anime either was meaningful to me in a personal way or that I've enjoyed it to my heart's content. Even in my favorite anime, I acknowledge its imperfections and the gaps it might have, but the pros outweigh the cons.

I sometimes forget to finish my sentences.

10/10 : amazing anime and perfect adaptation
1/10 : worst and overrated anime and also poor adaptation

Taking advice from twitter is like asking the toilet's opinion before taking a shit.

Fuck twitter. Rate anime how you like. In my eyes the basis for all rating is dependent on your level of enjoyment. There is no such thing as objective rating. People are idiots. Fly free and rate how you like.

People can do whatever they want, sure, but that doesn't change the fact that the way they score are incorrect. And honestly, the community only loses by doing that imo.

Your rating system is just that - yours! It's meant to be personal, it's meant to be subjective.

Personally, I rarely give out 10/10. In my opinion, giving every show that I simply enjoy a top score, isn't really a great way to judge a show. I have varying levels of enjoyment based of things like story, plot, writing, art style, music and emotion.

There are some shows that I really enjoyed, but only give them a 7/10 because they're not hitting the marks the same way a 10/10 show would. But again, this is just the way I like to rate shows.

I watch and thoroughly enjoy every season of MHA, does that mean I rate it a 10/10? No of course not, the highest rating I’ve given for a season of MHA is a 7. It really is up to you how you rate things. For me I enjoy rating things how I honestly think of them. If you’d prefer to just give something you enjoyed a 10/10 then go ahead and do it.

i honestly support it because once you start rating shows on critical stuff you become to blinded by it and you start to watch anime not to enjoy it but to rate it a score between 1-10. if you rate a not so well written anime 10/10 because you enjoyed it, i advice writing it in the "notes" box besides the anime

as much as i love twitter, anitwitter is just full of accounts that repost tweets about mainstream anime. you shouldn't let a random person dictate how you rate scores. Some of my favorite anime are given a 10 because i enjoyed it on top of it being good (quality standards). That's how I rate sometimes and it has helped me reflect on how I rate other anime

I give 10s to animes that are in my favorites and ones I incredibly enjoyed a lot, even if I can't say their a favorite of mine. Honestly its your rating system and your preference, don't let others tell you how to rate your animes. Everyone should be able to give a rating of their own

Anitwitter is just a plague that you should be avoiding. Watch them milk the next big mainstream shounen anime (2019 KnY, 2020 JJK, 2021 Tokyo Revengers) their opinions shouldn't even affect you.

That's an entirely subjective matter. I personally do not give 2 seperate fucks about objectivity and will not rate based on it. If it feels like a 10, it feels like a 10.

There is no objective measure on which to rate and score art. Almost nothing is objective.

You can say cowboy bebop was created by so and so and first aired on x date, those are objective facts. However it is not “objectively” good, nothing is.

Art you like varies from person to person and highly depends on a wide array of different factors.

Therefore, judging based on enjoyment is really the only way to score anything.
Just the sort of brainless sentimentality I'd expect from you.

People can rate their anime list however they want it doesn't affect me and why should I tell someone else how to rate their anime. Also yeah enjoyment plays a major in what score you give anything that's the point. I would rather someone give everything high scores than someone who just shits on everything.

Also I hate Twitter.

It's honestly hard to compare scores between ppl. Some will disect the whole anime (even if they fully enjoyed it) and say it's only 8/10. One of anime's purposes is to be enjoyable, so I wouldn't necessarily say that it's bad or wrong, that would just be a very subjective approach.
