Damn I wasn't ready for the feels today.

So Kyo didn't save Tohru's mom because wanted to protect his secret... I like Kyo but that's one of worst things that you could do to Tohru if not the worst. Tohru must really love him if she still takes his side despite the things he's done. That ending doesn't look for Tohru. Akito, PLEASE don't kill her.
He is not at fault, A car coming that fast and you only have a split second to make a decision how many of you if in real life are put in that situation will react? It's so easy to talk but you don't know what would you actually do in that position plus it makes so much sense why he would hesitate, all Sohma's already hate him if he let that secret out then he would have gotten more severe punishment compare to any other zodiac

I have to say that the transition, with the loud rain in the background, into the OP song was perfectly done. =D

And thus, ended the only happy part of the episode as the rest of it was filled with an abyss-level of despair, sadness and regret. Despite his faults, I can't help but feel sympathetic for Kyo as his very long monologue showed how much his guilt has hurt him all this time, which he had it repressed until he saw the blue hat he used to have a few episodes ago.

Because of his guilt, it was a hard pill to swallow when he coldly told Tohru that he was disappointed in her, especially after her emotional confession to him. Due to his state of mind, he ran off, with Yuki in hot pursuit. However, shortly after Yuki left, an emotionless looking Tohru looked behind her to see none other than Akito, also with her mental state of mind in tatters, holding a knife in her hand, the same one she used to stab Kureno in the previous episode.

Seriously, I've been a lot of cliffhangers that leave the viewers on the edge of their seat, but this one ranks near the top of the most brutal timing of a cliffhanger I've seen in a while. =(

Another cringe episode, especially because I was forced to watch it in dub, what a terrible version the voice actors should change their mother tongue ffs. Akito is the clearly the best character since she's the only one trying to get shit done.
This is too hirly for me, I cant stand it.

If you hated the English dub so much, then I can't understand as to why you couldn't have resisted the urge to wait for the JP dub episode to be released as normal instead of watching the episode early with the audio that you detest so much.

What's done is done, so me asking you this is probably pointless, but I felt obliged to do so regardless. Besides, I've watched the whole Furuba in both JP and EN dubs and both are great, at least for me.

This episode is so full of emotions TTATT Kyo keeps avoiding his emotions towards Tohru. He loves her so much, so why? ;~;
He must misheard Kyoko's words when she told her last words, I mean, she could had said to protect Tohru or she won't forgive him? I mean it makes too much sense that way! She's too kind to just say "I won't forgive you" :(

Akito's out of controll!! I really hope someone can save Tohru from that psycho Akito. I won't forgive her if she stabs our precious Tohru too ;-;
Kyo wil be heartbroken if he knows something bad happend to her too!

Goodness with this.. We got an another heavy dramatic episode, this time it was solely focused on Kyo and Tohru confession scene. Kyo's guilt from not saving her mother really frickin hit him huh? It even affects his feelings toward tohru.. Now I wonder what will happen to this two... WHAT WILL YOU NOW, TOHRU?

Also honestly TMS Entertainment, you know your stuffs, aren't ya? You really nailed that intense and dramatic OSTs all the way at the end of the episode! The feels, man. You gotta love that

No, Akito... Don't you freakin dare touch her. I swear to god that if you stabbed her in the next ep, I'm gonna drop this anime (jk)

Damn what a girl Tohru is. Truly the heart of ace. To forgive and to love, she truly shines no better than this. This episode was straight up breakdown. And that cliffhanger. I hope Shigure steps in to hold down his beloved or Kyo is gonna go on a rampage if she touches Tohru.
When someone asks me why I like anime, I'd say Just Because.

I think I'm running out of superlatives for this final cour at this point, as this was another stunning episode. The most immediate comparison that comes to mind is episode 18 of Re:ZERO S1, with Kyo venting all his self-loathing at Tohru in much the same fashion as Subaru did to Rem. Unlike that episode, however, Kyo doesn't give Tohru much space to respond, and even when she does finally get a word in it falls completely on deaf ears. I do like that we were kept guessing on how Tohru would react for so long, partially because it nicely feeds off her ongoing internal conflict about her love for her mother and her love for Kyo, but also because it must have been extremely difficult to process everything Kyo told her.

Ultimately, Tohru's reaction is both a surprise and exactly what I'd expect from her. Surprising in that she's willing to "abandon" her mother for Kyo, but unsurprising in that she's doing it because she cannot abide her mother saying those dying words to Kyo (if that is indeed true). And what a cliffhanger to end on, Tohru all alone and emotionally drained up against an Akito who is completely unhinged and willing to kill, having just stabbed Kureno not long beforehand.

Wow, this episode was absolutely phenomenal. Kyo finally confesses and reveals his whole backstory involving Tohru's mom. Really emphasizes his pain and how much he hates himself. Obviously Tohru's mom wouldn't actually say she'll never forgive him, there's definitely got to be more to that. I also love how it ties everything together, like the reason why he hates Yuki so much (not solely because he's the rat), why he was in the mountains, and the incident with Yuki finding Tohru when she was lost. Had to go back and re-watch season 2 episode 21. Fruits Basket truly excels at storytelling.

This has got to be my favorite episode of the season by far, and it might just be enough to make this show become my AOTS. But damnn Kyo, that was a brutal reply (makes total sense though), and why you gotta leave Tohru alone like that just when there's a total maniac with a knife approaching her :(

What a freaking rollercoaster of emotions between Kyo and Tooru. Tooru finally finds out the truth about her mother and how she died. Kyo blames himself for her mother's death because all he could was protecting himself and not others. Damn that was such a good episoide 10/10 especially at the end when he ran away.

I see you Akito you better not do anything funny.

Great episode. Really well paced. Still leaving us in the dark with Kureno. Kinda felt like that would happen. But this is sort of the penultimate episode of the build up for Kyou and Tohru's relationship. Even after all that, Kyou runs away again... Akito shows up with a knife but I mean if anyway has plot armor, it is Tohru.

Some people say what Kyo did shouldn't be forgiven so easily but it was a car accident. He had only seconds to make a decision. Even realistically speaking, that is a difficult thing to do. And Kyo has had it bad for all his life. Everyone's telling him he was wrong to even exist, and now that he decided to protect himself, that was also a crime? Poor boy

By the way, is it just me or the animation somehow changed a little?

They’re just going all-out on the emotional drama now.

Kyo revealed some really sad stuff after talking about why he blames himself for Tohru’s mom dying. As usual with Fruits Basket, him blaming himself is in-line with his character because he has been beaten down so much that he holds no regard for himself. Hearing him talk about how much he hates himself was tough to listen to, the VA did a great job.

I felt that scene went on for too long though. Mid-way through he starts repeating what we already knew and fully explained everything leading up to his introduction in season 1 and it felt awkward. This is a huge emotional moment and they basically tell us what we already knew (or could infer) while Tohru stands in the rain silently with blacked out eyes.

Nevertheless, I still thought this was a really good episode and we finally get the Akito-Tohru confrontation next episode.

Damn... that was... I'm kind of speechless.

The confession happened, and I'm blown away.

So that's what happened... I guessed the gist of it, but still, to see it happen was quite hard to see.

My thoughts on that are too unorganised so I can't write anything about that. But I'm almost 100% sure that Kyo misheard her. As Tohru herself says, that's not something that her mother would say. At all. My bet is still that her mother said something along the lines of, "If you don't save her as you promised, I won't forgive you."

Tohru's line took me by surprise, even though I should've expected that, seeing that's how Tohru is. But from this, we really see that Tohru loves him. It's not pity, even if there is pity. It's love. And it's on Kyo to accept it, since it doesn't matter for Tohru whether she should forgive him or not, because she loves him.

Damn, how happy I was to hear that. To hear her say it so loudly and clearly.

Forgive yourself, Kyo. Or if you can't, then atone for it. You just left Tohru alone, said everything you wanted to say, ignored her feelings, the feelings she expressed with all her heart to you, and then ran away.

And now, Akito who's gone batshit crazy has arrived. Neither Yuki nor Kyo are there, and Shigure isn't either.

Damn. I hope nothing happens to Tohru. If she got hurt, then I won't forgive Akito. Get the hell back, Yuki, Kyo.

I can't wait for the next episode. This episode was brilliant. 5/5 doesn't cover it. 6/5.

I loved this episode, and it was brilliantly adapted.

However, there was one thing I wished the anime kept regarding Tohru's expression after Kyo's confession. In the manga, her anger is very obvious shown on her face, whereas in the anime it was much more subtle. I wished they kept the former, this was one of the few occasions where Tohru was visibly angered.

Also, kudos to the anime regarding this scene: when Tohru says she loved Kyo, his reply in the anime was is that he is "now I'm disappointed in you [Tohru]", and not the manga's "now I'm [Kyo] disillusioned". Even though this is a very minor change, but makes things much clearer, even though they both have the same meaning.

The pieces of Kyo's past and pain have fallen into place, connecting all the dots perfectly. I cannot imagine the pain that he's been through in his life and the loneliness that it caused. I can understand why he ran away from Tohru; even though she's clearly stated that she loves him no matter what it's still a hard thing to accept when you hate yourself and have been without love for so long.

I think the other person who deserves some sympathy is Shisho. I can't even think about the pain that man's been through too. Not only did he have to watch Kyo break over and over again but he had to see it happen to the other Zodiac kids too and as someone who just wanted to stop their pain it must have been unbearable to see that.

I agree so much about that minor word change! In the manga, I was like "He's disillusioned? huh?" but it makes a lot more sense for Kyo to say he's disappointed by her.

I also agree about her reaction being anger at first. I feel like the anime has done a great job of adapting the manga but as far Tohru's character goes, they've dulled her character down a lot. She was a lot expressive in the manga.

In Japanese, Kyou says "Now, [I'm] disillusioned". 「そなん、幻滅だ」。Sonan, genmetsu da. It's difficult to translate genmetsu. It's some combination of disillusionment and disappointment. Very happy with how the season is adapted too!

Did I cry? Yes. Goodness, Kyo resonates with me a lot and oh my fucking god this whole episode was just literally perfect. The OSTs, the incredible voice acting from both sub and dub, the backstory from Kyo’s perspective. Was the best episode I ever watched and the furuba team adapted all of the scenes from 119-120 great too. These few episodes have been straight down pain and sadness.

Man, Kyo just went through a lot of shit throughout his life. Getting blamed by his father. Blamed himself for the deaths of his mother and Kyoko, even so it wasn’t his fault. He protected this guilt and turned into a lonely guy. My god, this was heartbreaking. Also the way how his hatred for Yuki clearly makes sense, he wanted a bad guy so he wouldn’t feel the agony from the past. This is why he is my fav characters in this series alongside Yuki and Tohru, his character is well written. Kyo really needs a healthier mindset and truly deserves better from how he was treated. Yuki my rat boy, you know what to do. I’ll be rooting for you.

Lots of things happened.

First, honestly Kyouko wouldn't say that to Kyou. He either misheard or she was saying that to someone else and he always thought it was towards him.
I don't know if they will ever explain that, but having something that a dead person said to be explained will just imply bad writing. "We never knew the truth" is probably the best way to end it.

I was 100% sure Tooru would forgive him. I mean, after all he said you know that he is just a good person being destroyed inside by blaming himself for things that were not his fault. So nothing unexpected.

BUT THAT ENDING.

Was someone else there in the house? Otherwise I can't see anyone that would stop Akito from attacking Tooru.
And honestly? I don't know why I feel like this. neither I believe that would happen, but I just kinda want to see Tooru stabbing Akito after taking her knife away from her. But as I said, not gonna happen.

Another 10/10 episode for a 10/10 anime.

no matter how much others love and accept you, unless you forgive yourself all the rest is pointless, meaningless, you can't properly receive it. Kyo was able to convey this message ideally. not only this, but also, despite understanding it all, how hard it is to proceed with the self-forgiveness. the inner turmoils that hunted him since childhood made him slide into guilt, pity, fear, hatred; yet Kyoko saw right through him "the 'good' and the 'bad' thing are pointless, don't live your life worrying about stuff like that. it's a waste of a good, kind boy like you."

For the most part I agree except for the episode where they reveal that Akito is God, the dub really messed up that scene, it should only ever be watched in the Japanese and I am not someone who is picky or hates dubs but that scene is important and the way Kyoko's voice was used in that part was all wrong wrong wrong compared to the Japanese

On the upside, Akito's english VA has really been giving it this season. I was blown away by her in the last ep.

And of course the original lead cast from the 2001 dub are all awesome.

Also highly satisfied with the adaptation's translation. Didn't get the "disillusionment" thing at all.

All in all, I think this anime did a great job conveying in words the complex emotions that the characters express in the manga. By no means were they simple sentiments to understand and explain.

The lines used in the show have been concise and conclusive, yet not too complicated. Even so, they were still able to capture the main point.

I liked seeing more of Kyou and Kyoko relationship.

So Kyou suppressed his memory of Kyoko's death and he can't stop blaming himself. Tohru still wants to love him after hearing all this. Kyou saying he is disappointed in her was just unpleasant.

Kyo really is a coward. He ran away so much during this episode. I can understand holding a grudge for a couple weeks or years but that seemed like such a small thing to hold a grudge for.

Akito is really unhinged. Someone should have called the cops on her a long time ago.
