this was a great episode this week! oima sensei never fails to write wonderful character arcs that gets me so invested in them.

im trying to not to get too emotionally attached to gugu because judging from the previous two people fushi has interacted with, i can somewhat foresee how it will end (just like how i thought i learned my lesson with nameless boy, i got super attached to march and experienced the worst heartache still haha)

even the the ending might be imminent/predestined, maybe the true experience was the journey along the way as they say

Gugu's brother, what a jerk...

Is Booze Man meant to be based on the Japanese deity Fukurokuju (or the Chinese version, Shou)?

  • Associated with Wisdom: He's a skilled enough surgeon to repair Gugu's face (working within his limits), and Pioran brings Fushi to him to be studied i.e. Booze Man is a scientist-of-sorts.
  • Associated with Immortality: With Fushi being introduced to him by Pioran, this is a given.
  • Wears a Gourd: Since he makes alcohol, this is no surprise, probably his emergency stash. However, Fukurokuju, Shou and other immortals in East Asian folklore/mythology are known to carry the elixir of life in gourds.

So once the clothes are separated from Fushi they're no longer a part of him when he transforms, right? Is the "memory" of the form of the boy with clothes still there?

Gugu's running the shop, can cook and is out there working out, but Rean's just thirsty for Fushi lol

And so the next arc begins. I wonder if the "face reveal" was censored at all. It was hella black that's for sure. This was a good setup for this arc anyway. Looking forward to where it goes. Of course I am now very wary of Gugu dying as that seems to be the trigger for a new Fushi transform.

Last episode Fushi was able to learn stuff and I liked it.
In this we are back into developing characters that scream "it will only be part of this arc".

As I said for March death I don't care about them, they are tools, actually not even tools but broken ones given that they serve no purpouse

Gotta love when "fate" is used as way to cover plot conveniences. Gugu should have died with his skull getting crushed by that huge log and it's honestly hilarious how this Lynn girl is at every place he decides to go.

OK episode overall but seriously, RIP Gugu's spirit. Little man got his face fucked and to make things worse, his crush shows up (again) only for her to start wanting to undress his sensual "little brother". How many blows can a boy take?

Damn, i feel so bad for the kid and the fact that the girl doesn't know that he saved her and then was left there, damn.

But that preview, it seems like my plans are already ruined, feels trip pt3.

Also, Gugu's brother is the worst guy ever, imo.

Nope, it wasn't censored. I think you can even see him a little better in the anime.

I would suggest you to not continue the anime, it's a waste of time if you don't care about the secondary characters and what their relationship with Fushi

So we get an introductory chapter for Gugu this time. It doesn't grip me as much as other episodes did... Well, you can't have good things all the time

What I really want to know is what happened to Gugu's tummy. He made a remark about it protruding out, and it's true. How the hell does getting your head crushed do that? What did the old man do to him??

Next episode : 'The two monsters'

One is fushi, we all know. And narrator-san says in the preview that Gugu discovers some thing hidden within his body. Seems mysterious, huh? Is gugu the another monster indeed!?

Man the older brother is a DICK!

Poor little guy just had his brother run off with his hard earned money, then he goes out of his way to watch a log for a guy who nearly killed him, then is the hero again by the saving the girl but gets entirely overlooked and instead he gets face planted by the log and is probably forever facially disfigured. Then the crush whom he saved shows her interest in FUSHI rather than him! Probably due to the big mask.... seems like it’s being played for laughs but this is going to be yet another tragedy isn’t it

Ive said this a lot about this show but it knows how to be cold but beautiful. The world it presents is beautiful and mysterious but the reality of said world is cold and unforgiving. This episode was a standout for how cruel this world can be the girl get a minor wound on her arm meanwhile the boy gets crushed under a log after saving her life. A very powerful scene in a show with quite a few standouts.

 What I liked

Gugu and his oniichan, aspired to live a normal life and they work hard to overcome their poverty. He saved that girl, risking his life and still nobody cared about him. That old man though helped him but for his personal greed. He is now a monster, his face looks ugly and now he has no hope for future. My man Fushi stole his girl and now he is totally damaged. Basically liked most of the things :>

 What I disliked

The anime tried to make his pain and sufferings comical sometimes, when it was not funny at all. After watching the preview for the next episode, It really feels like this anime is just looping around the pain and grief in the story ? Is this the only thing which will develop the characteristics of humans into Fushi ?? Each characters gets introduced with a great background story but later gets fucked up.

 Conclusion

Though in the previous episode Fushi talked to his creator and he told him they have a mission, so I am looking forward to that. I hope this anime turns out to be a masterpiece, just as how great was the first episode. I am not a manga reader so do keep that in mind and correct me if i interpreted something wrongly.

Gugu's brother is shit. Thankfully Gugu arrived late or else his brother would run off with the ring and sell it.

The personality that Rean showed around Fushi, that kinda kid makes me cringe. And it pisses me off how she doesn't remember that someone saved her from getting crushed by a log. How come you didn't notice that someone fell off the cliff after pushing you to save you from that huge log. She's worrying about that tiny wound when she should be glad to be just alive and mostly worry about that person who saved her and disappeared. I'm amazed how Gugu, who got his face smashed because of saving her is not at all concerned about that. If I was in Gugu's place I would be cursing Rean in my head by now. I hope I'm wrong and hope that Rean actually remembers and regrets.

Anyway, those moments of Fushi and Gugu were heartwarming, especially when they were all laughing while Looking at Gugu working out.

Also I hope they explain more about Gugu's belly cuz I don't understand how getting your face smashed has anything to do with your belly getting swollen.

Gugu is so precious. The next episode preview gave some tragic vibes. I don't want the same thing to happen to him that happened to March.

That girl should've been able to hear him screaming.

Anyway, would've been cool to see his face and what's up with his swollen belly?

Hmm, not sure what to think. This series hasn't hit the same high as the amazing first episode yet. I'm finding it hard to stay invested slightly. The first episode was one of the best first episodes I'd ever seen... an easy ten, but right now the anime is at a six. I hope the story gets more interesting soon.

It was a good story about Gugu, although that log did not kill him, it seems that it hit an internal organ in the stomach, I do not think it is normal for his stomach to swell

I feel the same way. Like, little dude really had it hard and kept getting his back kicked in throughout the episode. No, I'm not amused by the stupid girl that somehow missed both the initial scene of the log falling off and then Gugu screaming at her over and over again to get out of the way now showing up and curving him for the new pretty boy in town.

I don't care about an unrequited crush, but the image of that boy dying alone on a bed of rocks with a big ass log on his face for seemingly hours straight overpowered any attempts at comedy later in the episode for me.

Gugu's back story was fucking heartbreaking, just like everyone's back story is in this series. His brother got mixed with the wrong crowd and backstabbed him. I bet his brother was sold or is probably dead somewhere. He had hopes and dreams and I'm sure they included his brother but what a twist of fate.

I can't believe theu left him there to die while they only looked after Rean. Gramps was an angel for saving him. I'm worried though because he said his belly is sticking out so aside his facial deformation, he might have something else wrong with his body which might shorten his lifespan or something.

I do love the brotherly friendship that Gugu and Fushi have. Fuck Rean though, she can go take a hike. Find yourself a better girl, Gugu.

Another good episode. Gugu's story is a sad one, but I like his character. Although he was abandoned by his brother and lied to by him, he still looked up to him. I liked the message conveyed in this episode through Gugu's backstory. I just hope he doesn't die, but knowing what this anime is about, it is very likely.

Fushi shows a new emotion, fear. I hope life smiles at Gugu a little bit.

Unfortunately I got attached to Gugu, hope nothing happens to him but at this point I'm pretty sure his conclusion will be sad as hell if March's story was anything to go by.

I feel so bad for him, his brother left him, then his face got deformed because he saved the girl. The worst part is that the rich people only cared about Rean, no one even searched around for the kid because he's poor and 'unimportant'. The old man saved him, but I'm unsure what surgery he performed on him and he feels like he should wear a mask. It's a really sad childhood and I hope he finds happiness but I'm not getting my hopes up with this show.

Fushi's interactions with Gugu were wholesome and hilarious, I love how Gugu wants him to be his brother, and he teaaches him things that Fushi tries to imitate. I really loved all their scenes together.

My god, this ep is incredibly wholesome! However, nothing is without its price...

Gugu, a boy with great ambition to live a life of luxury, tirelessly grinding to get the money to afford just that but despite his efforts, his POS brother took that shit and put it as necessary funding to go against fate. What a fucking joke, but that's not a joke is fate itself, because as fate put it, Gugu got what he wanted, living in a great house, eating delicious meals, being taken in by a caring family all in exchange for his perfect health, his looks and his identity as the boy name Gugu.

Now even with this scar and his broken confidence, he still lives out a fun life with the Booze Man, and now with the arrival of Fushi and Piora, everything just felt so cheerful and dandy, this ep is easily the happiest I've ever seen a bunch of characters feel. In fact, I'd honestly not complain much if I were to live with this wacky family. They work hard and then play hard, if the life of these guys are as it is, then it's a fulfilling life they are currently living on.

All this leads me to ask 1 simple question... Why are kids in this series so heroic? March sacrificed her life to protect Parona, and then there's Gugu who risked his life and sacrificed his identity for Rean, despite getting no thanks in return for his valiant and selfless sacrifice. He's an unsung hero through in through much like March. Damn, I want to be as heroic and selfless as the kids in this series so far.
