The adaptation is spot on so far, but it's going 1-1 and a half chapters per episode, I have no idea how they're gonna fit the whole Janada Island arc in 20 episodes since it ends at chapter 54.
I'm afraid they're gonna cut a lot of stuff.

The action scenes can fly by fast though when animated. The dialougue focus chapters is mostly expected to be paced such as this episode.

Actually I just found out the first few chapters are like double the normal length, so going forward it will most likely progress much faster

I like the subtle details in the show.

1. Fushi has a human body but no idea how to be human.
He acts like a dog trapped in a human because that's all he was ever taught.
He follows March around because she gave him food, like a lost dog.

2. March feels guilty as hell for escaping but she also doesn't fear death anymore, as she just chases after Fushi instead of running away or getting scared.

3. His eye changes back to original purple for a moment when he eats "sweet fruit".
Perhaps the original owner of the body finalizing his dream.

4. The OP and ED are both great and atmospheric. I like how the orb's ultimate goal is to just fulfill the boy's dream of meeting people. And the OP and ED both show his chair, as a callback to "he's never forgotten as long as the orb carries the memory".

"Pain is growth", fuck you man, nobody deserves that kind of suffering as this show is about to display.

People are focused on the plot when the plot isn't what the show wants you to focus on as much as it wants you to follow along March's character. I was blown away by how they brought this child to life, even down to the crying. She doesn't just wail out in tears, when she had that nightmare full of guilt her she was bawling her eyes out but restraining from making a sound, when she was having her tantrum fighting for the pear fruit she let out an ugly facial expression with a cry, etc etc. Thats insane but minute detail all to bring out this character. People need to enjoy the mystery and the journey, not every story has to be some grandiose complex multi-universe upside down world plotline to be compelling.

Sadly a lot of people think complex means good all the time. Even manga readers sometimes tend to forget these minute details even when elevated by anime adaptations especially visually spoken details. Like some will only understand them after that one character comments in talk abouts it in details. So sometimes I don't really blame creators for using some characters for the purpose of explaining things.

Does anyone else think that March is a little similar to Lilo from Lilo and Stitch? Because that's the kind of vibe that I'm getting with her character. Other than that, a great 2nd episode and a great introduction to March and Parona.

I really commend the episode for feeling well paced with the chapters it adapted...though seeing how they've only adapted the 2nd and 3rd chapters, it does make me worry how the rest of the series will play out.

The presence of Tonari and her friends in the opening and end credits to imply that the Jananda Island Arc will happen in this season, but unless they find a way to adapt three chapters for a few episodes without making it feel rushed...I'm starting to worry that 20 episodes isn't gonna be enough...

It's n..e shhhhh..

It's not even revealed yet. Even the summary for this show didn't drop it. Though I already saw a few comments that drops it but no one really points it out so. It's probably also on me for pointing it out.

Action scenes can be adapted real fast, and page count for following chapters also dwindles so I think, its still possible.

good ep ! showed us how "it" can be immortal, and how it isn't used to being a human.
from the village, im guessing you're an adult when those grey-ish black marks on your face are completely gone? march's went away so i guess she can't be sacrificed now. she's a nice character too, im just not fond of her voice tho. op was rly nice, there's definitely a lott of spoilers there but if you dont focus on the visuals or look into it too much idt itll matter. ed was great too

i always feel like ima about to play Kingdom hearts whenever i hear Utada ,but watching the Op i was like did they just spoil a whole bunch of stuff or was it just a ton of out of context shots that wont make any sense regardless im skipping it now that ive heard it so i dont read into it any longer.

episode was neat can't say i was expecting some of my biggest laughs today from this show but that fruit smacking , kinda figured the arc would be a tribal sacrifice to a god which is most likely that crazy ass big bear? , didn't think our MC wolf rock boy would still be unable to talk and have the intelligence of a animal at this stage but slow progress.

The early chapters are a lot longer than most of the later chapters. If we go by volumes, they'd have to adapt a little less than 1/3 of a volume per episode to make it to the end of that arc (end of volume 6) within 20 episodes.

They've adapted well over 2/3rds of the first volume (which has 4 longer chapters as opposed to the normal 10 shorter chapters per volume), so they're right on track. In fact, they're a little ahead of schedule even.

As an anime-only
The OP doesn't seem like "spoiler" but how it's delivered as a "collage of cut images" is kind of a turn off for me. When I watch anime I either like to skip the OP every subsequent new episode OR watch through it every time cuz it's that enjoyable. This in my book falls in my former category....

That aside. The episode was...eh.... I'm not crazy about March though I guess I do feel a bit of pity for her being volunteered as the sacrifice and crying over why someone else decided that she'd "never be able to grow up"
I'm also wondering when that thing will ever you know....gain intelligence? It acts like a wolf right now but I feel like it's acting way more primitive than one...Just thinking about that learning curve it's going to need to go on to act like a human...ugh...how many episodes is that gonna take...

(I has assumed when he/it gained a new form it would gain the basic knowledge of said life form but I guess that is not the case seeing that it acted like it didn't know it had to eat according to the narrator......so weird...)

For us who haven't read the Manga, there was nothing wrong with the opening. Its only a problem for Manga readers because you know what's going to happen and that's why you picked up spoilers. If I didn't come here and read the posts about the OP having spoilers, I'd have probably went on enjoying the show in peace because the OP doesn't make sense to me still, cause I ddnt read the manga.

I don't get it. Since there's a pattern in every of those stories and nothing that surprising can come up, why should people be obsessed about spoilers? Especially people who are familiar with the source.
This is like missing the whole point that it's the journey that really matters.
For us the anime only watchers is pretty obvious how things gonna work.

Pretty art and fluid animation which is putted where it's needed. The VAs are doing great jobs. I really enjoy the random humorous scenes which provide a nice counterpoint to the gloomy atmosphere.

Many people compare it to Mushishi - frankly I don't see anything important in common.

I was wondering what purpose March character being introduce was going be. She seem to me like a friend and guide to our protagonist, Fushi. I guess we won't jump into future and stay in this timeline with March. I also can't wait till the Wolf learns how to speak.

The Hayase woman doesn't seem total jerk and she seem less threatening with that wooden spear. Is her master a bear?

It recognized the fruit as something edible despite being not able to eat one during wolf form so i think remnants of the boy’s consciousness merge with him when it is in that form, huh, kinda feel dumb only fully realizing it now

As expected, the pacing still seems off in this one, a great episode regardless.

Fantastic episode! The OP was awesome and the more I watch this show, the more I am tempted to binge the manga, I am sure I'll give in eventually.

March is a great character and her VA is doing a fantastic job. Man, the sudden change in expression from March when Hayase said she was gonna die, hits hard. That revival scene from our wolf turned human boi was fucking gorgeous. March wanted to be a mother, well her wish is granted, she can be a mother to wolf human boi. I hope March doesn't get sacrificed.

I guess the one their offering a sacrifice to is that gigantic bear that ripped half of our boi. Really looking forward to the next episode. Oh, and the instrumental ED was awesome as well.

OP song is awesome, and so are the visuals, but they really don't go together.

I forgot that March was annoying at first because of just how much I absolutely love her now.

Parona doesn't have a lot of scenes, but she's the best female character in this after the old woman.

I hate Hayase, and I love the way this anime is showing her.

Our Immortal boy's recovery animation was so bloody satisfying! I had wanted this to be an anime just so that I'd get to see those magical scenes in motion.

What's going on with our Immortal-kun's eyes? I don't remember that happening in the manga. Still, it's fun to see him behave like a wolf while in the body of the sweet boy from last episode.

The ED is perfect!! It's so simple and artistic. Seeing the mask and the fire had me squealing with joy. I am jealous of all of you anime-onlies who get to experience this for the first time!

Whelp, after reading some of these comments, I’m glad I was looking away when the OP was on. I don’t wanna spoil anything of this series for myself 😬

But I’m still a fan of where this series is heading, still has a more serious undertone while letting some cuteness shine through with March’s personality.

Okay done watching this. I thought its may get another tear jerking one. But surely i am satisfied its not reaching the climax, yet.

Another solidified episode with a nice introduction to a certain new character that acted like the mc to these arc: Marchi, the rambunctious little girl. I guess i can finally understand the pattern so far which It, the immortal being, really just an observer, not a direct mc for the rest of the show. But, we can always see how It grows from time to time. This one, i get to understand how he still hold the wolf act that responded through Marchi stimulation.

Its a pretty nice choice of direction through the story, at least for my understanding. Well done. It maybe act like that until its get a lot of new information before returning, idk. But so far, as a heart breaking, calm before the storm kind of thing, introduction, it just well-worthed to see the next one. I am glad its not over in one episode. Because, well, i need to prepare my heart, before something worst happened to that poor little thing.

At least she already got what she wishes, right? Well, not for a long time, sadly. But, argh, lets see whats up next!

Also, the 3dcg ed. Its just wonderful. Thats it all from me.

It feels unrealistic how overly aware of her own mortality March is to lash out about being denied the right to grow up; it helps hammer the thematic point, but it feels like the writing was focused more on making that point than making sure the way it's made feels even remotely plausible. Besides that, March is kind of just all the annoying anime kid tropes bundled together, so while I do feel sorry for her situation I really hope she doesn't stick around for too long.

Compared to other shows of this nature - stuff like OG Kino (not the bad remake) and Mushishi - I'm having a hard time gauging which way this one is going in terms of our main character: will It remain an observer as it travels and encounters new people, or will It gain intelligence from his encounters and start to take a more active role in events? I think the next episode or two (however long this arc plays out for) will give us a solid hint of which direction this show is going to take. At the very least, I don't expect that March will last much longer in these circumstances.

Nothing puts me off more than annoying kids doing tantrums and being annoying in general. Also, what was the deal with the constant tonal shifts on this episode? Could've made the sacrifice revelation a bit more impactful, but they relied on doing a "funny tantrum" out of it, which, basically killed the moment. This will represent a heavy problem in the future if it becomes inconsistent with the tonal shifts.

On the bright side, the OST was good, but that amounts to nothing when everything else is just... bland.

Those moments of Fushi and March reminded me of Dororo and Hyakkimaru XD

As it travels and grows it might start to have its own personality which might be completely different from the old Fushi.
