THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.
----------------------------------------
Oh man, Joe is not in a good mood this episode. He should also be more careful of his health. Dude looks exhausted.

It's cool following Joe's adventure in the outside world besides just fighting. There's also the look of the communities that I think is both cruel but realistic. Joe has witnessed a lot of shit in his life.

I like the character development in this episode. We get to see more character development from Joe as he finds himself in a village where he meets that Mexican boxer again. Ultimately, he decides to help that Mexican boxer in a tournament that he's planning to take part to save the village, hence triggering the start of his revival.

Good stuff right here. Too bad this show is criminally underrated atm. More people should really watch this.

mabanua's back for the instrumental OP, which is another great showing.

Joe finding himself stumbling into a community of immigrants, whilst his bike and Gear being cannibalized and sold for quick cash from Mio's hands. To see the post moments of the Megalodon fight shimmer in his anxiety attack with Sachio, it's a harsh life.

So the boxer Chief that Joe encountered in the ring was living in the same immigrant community. And to be the Chief of the immigrants, he'd likely only got away scot-free with his dealings against parties coming against them.

Opening up what happened during the 7-year timeskip with Nanbu's death and Sachio's disappearance, and that's a mystery by itself.

Can't wait to see the proper match between Joe and Chief, even if it was a fixed one to save Chief's community.

This feels like how Hollywood would make a sequel, which is nothing new for Hollywood, but very new and novel for anime industry.

Joe finding his reason to keep going. After seeing the premiere last week of how far Joe had fallen from where we saw him winning the megalonia tournament to now taking copious amounts of pain pills to keep going. We got a bit more insight into what happened before to make Joe leave everything behind. Beaten in that exhibition match in front of everyone on top of feeling like he caused Nanbu death all added up to Joe not being able to take it. Great introduction with this immigrant community that Chief is from, them trying to find a better life in this country leaving their own to be welcome with contempt. Marla with her son Mio trying to survive. Some very topical storylines in this season. I'm glad that Joe has come around to now helping Chief, maybe even getting into the ring himself later.

One of the reasons that got me into Megalobox was the Hollywood-inspired setting. And Season 2 does it even better.

Incredible 2 episodes so far , lots of character development you can really tell Joe is going through some shit.

Maria , Chief and that brat from Maria were the new character this episode my first impressions are Maria is a really nice and kind person , Chief is cool really liked when he did the Rikiishi smirk mid episode nice Ashita no Joe throwback , that kid is an asshole.

As for the story, for now it looks like they want to get the money to buy that spot and save the village

Really liked this episode. I can see how easily Joe lost it with the drug use. Hopefully he comes back strong in this next episode. Quitting addictive pain killers is hard, or so I've heard! Really can't wait

I'm very pleased so far. The direction they've taken with this new season is working wonders. More than I'd expected or hoped for, here's to the rest of the season being this great.

Great episode. Character development and the emotional interactions, it felt pretty organic. I also love the direction of the plot. Not to mention the hype at the end.

The episode was great. Even with the basic hard worker single mother and despicable thug kid trope.

Now without drugs, we are back on track.

Yep, I seriously don't like the OP&ED, is so meh compared to 1st season ones.

Great stuff. I like the ED. (I think 1st season had similar music style?) Nice atmosphere here. Really one of the best anime this season. Looking forward to this (best sequel I'm watching) and 86 the most.

Phew, those last few seconds though. Music, timing and presentation, thank you very much!

Definitely starting to see Chief in a different light now. Can't wait to see the two training together.

Meanwhile, the stage has been set pretty fantastically.

The kid stealing Nomad's bike was a blessing in disguise. If not for that, he would have not found a group of caring people who were inspired by him nor would have have reclaimed his passion for boxing. Got to make their dreams come true.

Say goodbye to the drugged Joe and welcome back "Gearless" Joe.

I'm loving this. The story, the art are all top notch, but the music and the atmosphere they build up is like nothing done in anime nowadays.

I feel like having a tequila and beer and reminisce about old times after watching this. It's that kind of feel.

Already a big improvement from the previous season. That kid that stole the bike made me mad, but his mom was sweet. Also, seems like the kid will have trouble with that organization, since he told them Joe would be there and he wasn't. I wonder where Sachio is. Joe dreamed of him when he was blacked out, makes me worry about him.

So, is Joe gonna take on the role of coach/mentor to help the chief win the tournament? Coz that's what I understood when he said he wants to help win it. I'll be delighted if Joe's the one participating himself.

I miss the old cast tbh. Want to know what's everyone doing now...

I wasn't expecting the OP to be lyricless. Have to admit I'm a little disappointed by that. @xFLUXEY I was thinking about Bebop as well when I heard the OP. Mostly because in one of the forum games a little while back they had people listing "10 Anime OP Without Lyrics" and this one got me thinking about Bebop, which kinda doesn't have lyrics.

Mio just wakes up every day and actively chooses to be a little shit, eh? I can't imagine anything happening that will make me sympathetic to him at this point.

I'm glad Joe appears to be getting his shit together though. Looks like he's going to take on a mentor role, which should be interesting -- though I do hope he gets to be in some matches of his own this season as well.

This is getting to be super cool, if it keeps this up this might even be better than the first season. The new intro is great and reborn drugless Joe is cool too.

This is gonna be interesting to watch, especially when they start getting into what happened with all the previous characters.

I'm truly in love with this season, I'm Mexican so I fell identified with the way they're representing our culture.

Btw, the festival on the episode it's called "El día de muertos", and it shows the love we have for our departed ones. It's believed if we show them the way to heaven with candles and flowers, and help them on their journey by providing their favorite food and drink, they can finally rest in peace.

Marla is such a sweet woman. Such a shame she has an asshole for son.

Well... leaving aside the obnoxious brat that is Mio, I'm really liking the direction this new season is taking. Not to mention that my man Chief is far more interesting than all the characters from season 1 combined.

By the way, I really appreciate the fact of this anime taking a lot of Latin-American inspiration for this new season.

Man, this episode was fantastic, this season is shaping up to be incredible. The OP was fucking perfect as well for the vibes that this season is giving.

He got his bike stolen but at least he met those wonderful people, except for Mio, that kid is nowhere near wonderful lmao. Marla on the other hand is very very wonderful. Chief is a good dude as well, making Joe get his shit together.

Very curious to how Nanbu died and why Joe says it's his fault. That OST at the end though when Joe approached Yuri, that was straight up fire. Really looking forward to the next episode.
