| This was amazing, every episode had something to offer. I love how it managed to change the viewers opinion about characters with good guys turning bad and vise versa. There's lots I could say about it but just going to address the ending. It was somewhat bittersweet for me, part of me didn't want a happy ending. Johan saved the day again with his creepiness, preventing the last episode from being overly happy. My theory is he didn't really sit up in bed, it was a flashback he had whilst still asleep, while Tenma was telling him his real name. After Tenma leaves Johan wakes up and leaves the hospital. The big question is what did he do afterwards? Does he go on to continue his ways, start a new life or personally, I think he may have jumped out of the hospital window, hence why they highlighted the window. His aim was suicide after all. 10/10, a rare gem, expertly crafted with great depth and detail. |

There were moments that felt repetitive. This is truly one for the memories. If I had to describe it, I would say this series felt like having endless sex but never reaching orgasm. |
| Wow, I can't imagine what a mother would do in that situation: being forced to send one of her kids to a military experiment. So, now that it's over, I have quite a few unanswered questions/characters actions that I don't understand. Still, Monster had an amazing atmosphere and a good deal of suspense, unlike any other anime I have watched. The plot twists were pretty unexpected imo. 8/10. |

| This is an ending as every anime ending should be. Never would I ever have dreamt about an episode showing every important character in the last episode (the ones still alive of course :c), this episode felt so satisfying, important things are explained such as the twins parents. What confuses me the most is, which childen did the mom want to "throw away"? |

| What a fantastic anime. I can see why Johan is deemed as one of the best antogonists ever. The complexity in his character was portrayed so beautifully. At first I was irritated by the ending, but come to think of it, he did all of this to ultimately die. To get killed by Tenma. But his plans did not succeed and on the contrary the thing that pushed him to go this far also got resolved through Nina forgiving him. Up until this moment his entire life he only knew how to kill people that ultimately crossed his path. That was the only way he lived. He doesn't have any ambitions anymore. Contrary to the other characters moving on in their lives, Johan is basically just an aimless shell. His quite fucked imho. That's his greatest nemesis, if he even decided to live in the end. 10/10. |

| The last 6 episodes were good, along with a few others along the way, but most dragged on for too long and didn't offer anything noteworthy in terms of plot or character development. I'm thinking the ones where Tenma helps people out; we've seen a few, we know he's a good guy, we don't need it hammered multiple times into our head. Some characters - like Grimmer, Lunge, the old psychiatrist, and Tenma at the end - were good, most were forgettable. Tenma only got interesting character development near the end and Johan was more talked about than shown, and mostly stood around smiling while on-screen. I noticed that the creators of this show cut away from him explicitly killing anyone, probably in order to make him more sympathetic. I get that he's a master manipulator, but it's a visual medium - show, don't tell; I got bored of the many times of hearing Johan being called a "monster" and not actually seeing him do anything aside from manipulating people. Sound-wise, some score was good but the OP and EDs were either bad or forgettable overall. I watched it in 1.5x speed most of the time, and when watched on normal speed the animation looked like a Powerpoint presentation. Though I suppose it's to be expected of a drama from the 2000s with so many episodes. All in all there were a few good parts but I'm not especially thrilled I watched this. It's riddled with clichés, there's not that much atmosphere to speak of, there're a lot of contrivances to make things work, and it dragged on far too long without offering enough material to support it. I could've lived without it. 6/10 |
| OMG THE BITCH JUMPED OUT THE WINDOW! xD This was a thrill to watch every night before I went to sleep. Sometimes I did not sleep for a long time...because I kept clicking on the next episode. D: I am SUPER relieved that after suffering so much, most of the characters can live happily in peace. OR CAN THEY? Idk I'm just glad Tenma and Nina are both alive. Nina's in love with him. Prove me wrong. xD Still really sad about Grimmer and Martin though. ;________; Overall....I feel this was written and directed really well. But it was also too much information for me at times (I only blame myself for this because my own memory kinda sucks) There are just SO many characters...so I sometimes lost track of who did what and who was experimented on and who wasn't...and gaaaaaaaaah @_@ I bet if I read the manga, I'd absorb it better.....maybe? |

| It dragged a bit in the middle...you could combine some arcs and cut some stuff in the middle and it would still come out the same...but even still the ending is so worth it....amazing show tho not perfect I gotta admit....I would really have liked to see how things turned out if Tenma had actually shot Johan and then did not save him a second time...the slow spiralling of Tenma's mental state afterwards...maybe becoming a monster himself? The possibilities.... |

| Lunge: "I've been able to have coversations with my daughter. Not real conversations, I guess. E-mail." ROFL. Lunge doesn't even have a chance to share a beer with Grimmer. And would Tenma diagnose Lunge's brain already? Cause I want to see if there's really a computer/CPU on his brain or not. If it was true that Johan can predict the future, then Johan must've predicted that Poppe will came to the Twins and thus he crossdressed because that way his mother can't tell the difference between them and Johan feared to know the truth what will be his mother's choice if his mother was to sacrifice 1 of them. Johan sure cross-dressing at a bad timing eh?(At least for me). I figured out 2 possibilities for the ending: 1) Johan leave the hospital 2) Johan is dead, thus that last scene was just Tenma's imagination. |

| The way everything got resolved was really anticlimactic. I wanted to like the series, I enjoyed it at first a lot, even all the slow-paced stories and slice-of-life sequences, they added to the overall atmosphere and we got to know more about different characters. It was a genuine masterpiece material but in the second half, it became dragged, revolving around basically the same things, adding to the frustration. The whole plot with picture books was somewhat annoying, I found some of the concepts interesting but not the way it became so important. The last 10 episodes were really difficult. And in the end, all the build-up fell flat. It was apparent that Tenma won't be able to kill Johan, that's not what disappointed me, just the way it was handled. Overall, I might have expected too much from Monster and it betrayed my expectations. Even emotionally it wasn't something I could say about that emotional value outweighs the flaws, I didn't get attached to any of the characters and while the story was mostly interesting, the ending left me feeling empty and confused. |

| well that was f-ing stupid. i wasted an entire week in quarantine for this nothingburger ending? so tenma just hallucinates about johan having an episode about his identity one last time but then he offs himself anyway? okay doomer. the real monster was naoki urasawa all along for trolling us into watching this dragfest of a series without giving any proper closure, other than this pretentious 3deep5you middle finger to swallow. allright then, ima hide my true intended score from the world as well. even if you might have a guess, you can never be too sure. this whole comment could be an elaborate ruse for all i care. |

| Lunge bringing beer to grimmer's grave when suk and vardemann were there was incredibly heartwarming. I really wanted both of them to sit peacefully and have a nice long chat probably with tenma too since they promised to have picnic together but regardless of that grimmer-lunge duo was definitely the best duo in this anime. Grimmer and lunge were definitely the best characters in this series although I hated lunge at first only find as a very interesting character as it progressed. I think johan won't really kill anyone after this because he finally has a name and the monster inside him has vanished after getting one. Johan was a great antagonist. This guy really puts every other so called 'intelligent' anime characters to shame. Fuck bonaparta for toying with twins' and many others' lives at 511 kinderheim. The biggest learning you can get from this show is to stay away from thots like eva. It wasn't johan's operation that ruined tenma's life but rather eva's false testimony just to make tenma regret about dumping her. I really wanted to see grimmer and lunge share beer together tho :( Overall, It was an awesome ride despite having some visible flaws. |

| Monster, I think it was a great set-up with clearly a lot of thought put into the story. Johan's almost supernatural powers of manipulating people was quite weird and so was the massacre at the end. However, the anime does a great job in it's execution - pacing, soundtrack, animation, etc. I feel weird having finished this show and it's quite different ending but I will say that the show was quite good and definitely worth recommending 9/10. |

Did we watch him all these 74 eps for go back? Learning how to fire and use arms just for wandering them around, I should have expected it, if his charges got cleaned, how is Johan not in custody? We would they let him leave? Tons and tons of episodes that went into long sidestories just for reveal a bit at the end of them, and there was no big revelation, no anything... You know what? I think I'm mad at this anime. It would be worse if he died, you're wanting the predictable and bland ending. Stupid. |

| Such an amazing end to an even more amazing series. I loved seeing what each character was up too. Seeing a happy ending was quite odd, but reassuring at the least. With that being said however, this is Monster and the anime would not end without giving the audience some parting food for thought. I truly believe that there is no monster, there were countless characters that at one point many, including myself deemed as "monsters"... General Wolfe, Peter Capek, The Baby, Klaus Poppe, etc... But all of these individuals demonstrated some form of "humanity", that even if minuscule, strays them far away from being deemed as a monster. I truly feel the same about Johan, but the beautiful thing is that the story never outright says it. It never states whether Tenma or Johan is correct in their world view. "Human beings...can become anything" - Klaus Poppe Episode Score: 10/10. Series Score:10/10. The series may have had slow point, some plot convinces and more. But there have been few anime that have evoked such an indescribable feeling as this one. |
| So I finally watched Monster. As I expected I really enjoyed it for some obvious reasons, like the tone and maturity, which is unfornutaly something rare in anime. However, I really was expecting more. Johan wasn't really that scary. Everyone around him describing as a monster without feelings, but none of the stuff he did make me believe 100% in that. Sure he did some terrible stuff, but all that should make him be categorized as a terrible criminal. Which is why a lot of the scenes with criminals with Dr. Gillen, I didn't see why they weren't as bad as Johan, or how Johan had so much influece around them. A lot of plot points in the second half of the story were not clear. I really would rather that they gave us 2-3 episodes focusing on Johan and Nina backstory from the start until he gets hospitalized, and maybe even after that. I also belive the series has some plot holes, but I can't really pinpoint one, specially since I feel the story was a bit convoluted. Some characters/dialogues throughout the series were really simple. For a series with a plot that should be really mature and well made, this constantly annoyed me. Not to mention the series clearly spend a considerable ammount of time developing side characters that don't help the story progres that much rather than... making the story more intense and interesting. And finally the last arc could have been much better. I enjoyed a lot the arc in the middle of the series and was expecting the last arc to even surpass that. But all the mistakes I've listed above were really really predominet in that arc and the actual events of that arc were not as impactful as it should be. The actual ending also felt like something was missing. I couldn't stop thinking "wait that was it?" after the credits rolled. I know this sounds like I disliked the show, but I have legit liked this. But Monster clearly had the potential of being a masterpiece, and it missed that chance because of those mistakes. 8/10 |

| I really liked this anime. At first I was put off by the art and even the story line to be honest, but once I started it I couldn't stop. The art was actually not bad, the story line was excellent and I loved all the characters. I never wanted Johann to die, tbh, and I was glad that Tenma saved him. But one thing I was disappointed in was the relationship between Nina and Johann. It just never progressed, especially since the viewers are told the deep connection Johann feels with Nina. This whole story revolved around the twins and Tenma, but towards the end Nina just became... kind of out. When she forgave Johann, the scene didn't have the impact I had imagined and hoped, and then after that it's like she forgot about him, which made her forgiving him in the first place seem futile. It wasn't exactly a satisfactory end, but I'm just gonna believe that everyone got their happy ending. Overall I loved this show, and I'd give it an 8.5/10 |

| As a whole though, thought the series was ok. Wasn't too impressed by the animation. Felt like a lot of it was close ups of faces so they didn't have to show movement. Maybe too old school for me, oh well. Enjoyed the length, not too many shows focus on a single conflict spanning that 40-80 episode range. Still though, I thought it was entirely too predictable. Only time I was surprised was when Roberto was still alive, but then I realized that of course he had to be if they wanted to keep Tenma's "every life is equal" shtick. Gotta say though, was definitely engaged when they were unraveling the mystery in the final 25ish episodes, and there were some pretty decent ideas to take away. Loved the complex characters. Lunge was definitely my favorite. They were baiting the Lunge x Tenma team up throughout the series but it never happened :(. Didn't like how they built up some irrelevant side characters though, felt like filler. Overall, I want to place it somewhere between my 7s and my 8s. IDK time will tell. |
LMAO. Somewhere in like the 40 episode range I thought they were going to say Johan and Anna were the same person and I was loosing my shit but then of course that didn't happened. Would've easily been a 10/10 for me if it did tho. |

| the end had done two great things: 1. first of all the time skip were great, every character had reached his own conclusion, this is the actual "happy ending" of monster. 2. the good thing about the ending, is the fact that it left some open ending and maybe open question, that really took the ending another level. really amazing series in all meaning - story - except minor episodes all story builded up to that high tense climax, and some arcs did great things on their own. characters - the anime simply doesn't miss any character for developing, even those who have little screen time. music - great cast and OST, though the 2nd ed were bad, it still were somehow good. animation - great animation without flaw, the last episodes especially. truly masterpiece, 13 out of 10 |
| I really LOVE open-endings but an open-ending for Monster is not appropriate. I've read a lot of takes about this ending and what seems the most probable. Although I believed Johan died I revisited a lot of episodes before making my conclusion. There is no right or wrong answer, we can take all the clues from past episodes and make an argument if Johan is dead or not. But if you do, like I did, you will find that there is more evidence pointing towards his being alive! The first clue is the after image after Tenma leaves the hospital. We are seeing trees and feeling the wind blow. We are seeing this in a UP wards direction, from the perspective that someone is laying down.  There's only one another moment EXACTLY like this. Carl's dad viewing the lake.   When he sees this lake he has a "feels good' moment. It's a moment of pleasure he's taking in. This is what Johan experienced as he was looking up: Peace. Throughout the entire journey it is evident that Nina and Tenma are the ONLY people who know how Johan thinks and the way he behaves. So when Tenma has his dream about Johan asking him these hard philosophical questions, this is realistically what Johan would ask himself. Remember Milos?  Do you remember how Johan told him to go on a journey to find his answer, the search for his mother. Throughout the entire anime not once did Johan go on a journey to meet his mother. I believe he (and we as the audience) all believed Johan's mother was dead. And I don't think Johan ever had the chance to ask his mother. But now that he knows his mother is alive I believe like Milos he will go and search for his answer. I really love Monster, this was a journey! |
