Few faces cough me offguard, but overall good episode, they really got feel from one chapter over all episode. And post ending scene though. I can only imagine what anime watcher had to look like.

Just one nitpick, they changed anime and manga. In manga, it was Grisha, who clearly and selfishly went beyond wall if I remember correctly, while in anime it looked like he was doing it for his sister.

Sooo 'm still holding out for more detaisl of the 3 "items" found in the basement.
but so far thi seems like a bit of a let down

SPOILER ALERT
So alll this hype since season 1 about the basement and all it is, is ohhh there's humans outside the walls who have it better. laaaaaaaaame, I was expecting to see lie\ke a patient zero of titans to see his dad be the whole cause of the titans. so this build up just seems soo anti-climaxtic

Time to see what lies under the basement.
Mankind knew that they cannot change society. So instead of reflecting on themselves, they blamed the beasts.

So first oft all. Armin was very shocked about all the thing which happened. I guess this reaction would be similar for every person. I'm glad Sasha also survived even if she's badly injured. It's definitely like Levi said. Armin can't Erwin, nobody can. But he's otherwise talented and for Hanji it will also be hard as the new commander.

And then Eren, Mikasa, Levi and Hanji finally made their way to Erens house and the mysterios basement. They showed a lot of flashbacks of Hannes, Erens mother and father which was nice. I was a little bit confused that Erens key didn't fit, but Levi handled that problem quickly :D

On the first look there was nothing special in this room. A lot of books and medicine, but it got interesting when Mikasa discovered the keyhole in the desk. When there was nothing to see int he drawer I knew it must have an double bottom. 3 books was what they found. The first wtf moment was definitely the photo and the fact that there are actually humans outside who live a normal life.

And with the scene at the end which showed Erens father when he was a kid + the fact that there was an aeronautic to see made me think if I'm watching the right anime. The tone shifted in such a different direction for me. I really want to know what's written in these books.

Also the flashback of Erwin shows that the government wants to hide something. I mean it's so contentious. On one side humans fight for their lifes against titans and have to hide behind giant walls and on the other side there are humans who can live a normal life? There's definitely something wrong and I don't know what.

The flashbacks they had while walking through the streets were incredibly powerful.

However, the ending scene was kind of expected. It's sort of like a maze runner theme, isn't it?

Being the one who managed to survive, Armin was the one who now has to live with the fact that he has to live up to the expectations everyone had for Commander Erwin now. It's a good thing that Sasha's okay too since any more losses would be another huge blow to the already beaten-up Survey Corps. I hope that they were somehow able to take home the bodies of the fallen as well.

They all found out the secret in the secret and it wasn't as morbid as I would like to think but the revelation that there really are humans living past those walls living in luxury and modernity was insane! Everyone's stuck in the apocalyptic dark ages but it turns out that there's a place where a freaking airship exists!

Finally man it's been what 7 years? Finally they got to that basement. Anyway, human beings living outside the walls, it's surprising how this is not a surprise to me. Ever since the first episode of the first season way back, when I heard that narration about how all humans outside the walls are dead and the rest are hiding inside the walls, I knew that was presumptuous as hell. Still have alot of questions though.

I was expecting that drawer had some counter-measure just like Light's drawer but oh well. At least only the key can open the drawer.

Fortunately Grisha told them what photograph is otherwise they would confused as to how someone could draw like that, lol. And in that photograph there's no Eren or his mother. The plot thickens.......

Lol the double tease... people would have been pretty mad if there was just nothing in the basement. It gets a bit repetitive to keep revealing all the major plot points via flashback episodes, but oh well guess it's expected from AoT at this point.

-The build-up of anticipation with nostalgia was well executed. It was expected for the characters to have flashbacks, but it also made me reminisce of the first couple episodes of season one and think about just how long it's been and just how much we've seen transpired over the years.

-Well, the creepy ED from season 2 has more context now. Getting some strong vibes about someone or some people with warped views of how to go about bringing world peace lol.

The walk to the Jaeger's house is really surreal with the quietness and the OST int eh background.

armin is awake, and it looks like bertoldt/the colossal titan is kind of awake inside him which is a lil creepy (and tokyo ghoul-esque with kaneki and rize is it not). but i liked levi's "orders" to them all not to doubt themselves and regret their decisions, him and hange really are like their parental figures

they finally got to the basement!! i've been waiting for what feels like so long when i've only taken a couple of weeks to get this far, imagine waiting for what? 7, 8 years for this moment. but it's satisfying knowing they are getting closer!

(also levi kicking the door in was funny to me lol)

and we get a hint of how humans live outside the wall! they have more advanced technology but they are still in walls themselves....? plus the whole armbands situation

just as an end note: one thing i really noticed and loved in this episode was the amount of detail in the background art, especially when they were walking through the ruins to eren's house. it was all very pretty and intricate and must have been painstaking to complete. also the flashbacks were sweet and nostalgic as well, i liked that

Hmmm... I didn't read the manga, so I am a bit scared what will happen, as everyone is talking about a moment that will change the anime forever.
But I am scared to see it lol :D
I will write here my hypothesis and let's see if part of it is true afterwards. :D
Fact is there is a modern world outside where others are living. Hmm, but why are the titans attacking the humans inside the walls and why they can't know the truth? Are they in a ghetto or something like it was 2nd world war? But why to kill them? Is it something like in the movie Village - that they chose to be separated because they did not want to accept modern world? Or are those people criminals and is it their jail? :D Or there is corona making people titans and we will all end up in quarantine like this, lol. :D I don't know. :D

Now that Armin is awake they knew some of their secrets which I anticipated but let that sink in for a moment while he's trying to catch up

Finally on to the basement of the world's secrets unfold I did assume Levi wouldn't care about the lock if it somehow didn't fit I thought that he was gonna be pissed at the mess he would be mad but no shit the town's messed up in the first place

Now leading to that keylock in a drawer they found a picture that contains a family photo from where it began with Grisha's hometown comes with an advanced society no man ever knows it exists.

Lovely episode. I'm glad Armin is alive but unfortunately he's in the hands of Erwin and barriers will come as he's now a inherited titan. The imagery flashback this episode shown is emotionally beautiful: Mikasa and Eren running from their childhood and now they have become fighters whereas, there are many of their relatives and other people who have lost their live and had their own future ahead but unfortunate it resulted short for them to live. Finally I'm really happy to see the secrets that Grisha has kept to Eren because the key has been mentioned and kept by Eren for several times in this series but it was a worth of a wait and the book that the four of them found, the illustration looks like Grisha had a first wife who I assumed is the one who killed Eren's mother and that kid is probably Zeke (Just speculating), also nice how I didn't skip the outro but it's nice to hear Grisha's backstory, looking forward to more of it!

finally we see a hug between someone in this anime, i was starting to think physical affection doesn't exist in this world.

armin is obviously very shaken about the fact that he was saved instead of erwin. he's got los of responsibility on him now.

the part where eren and mikasa were walking towards there house and the scenes from past and shown was beautifully done, it captured the emotions they both must have been feeling seeing their home town destroyed like that.

we finally reach the basement and they stumble upn three books written by grisha. they are now going to learn about the secrets of thw world. at this point i'm not sure if zekk is the bad guy or not, obviosuly the outside world has many more luxuries, why would u wann stay inside the walls then, plus he was talking about saving eren etc. and how he was a victim of grisha too. dunno man lets' see what happens. excited.

The end of an era. Thank you Wit, Mappa and Isayama.

they handled armin coming back reaally well. sasha yelling "shut up!" in the middle of this super serious convo was just GOLD. id never expect that aot comedy would get me this much

flashback while they were heading to eren's house was a really nice touch. it was kinda awkward how mikasa just followed whatever he was doing (ex: eren stops, looks to the right to see a basket. mikasa does the exact same lmao) but it wasn't so much of a bother ofc

bigg reveal from grisha's book there. after ed was also really good, music that came with it was lovely as well

Look at Armin career on the military growing up rapidly, when he's about to hands in the position as the Survey Corps commander. But, let aside that first, Sasha really lifting up the mood. What a relieve seeing her able to survive in the middle of those hellish battlefield.

Back to the job they had in Shiganshina, enough with the little flashing back, basement looked normal, until Levi kicked the door open and searching the entire room with casual. So, thats the secret, obviously a story from Eren's father. That photo, photograph, could it be Zeke? Looks like there's another civilization of humanity beside Eren's home. Was that Reiner called as hometown?

Well, for all of those questions, pretty sure Grisha past had an intriguing backstory...

So the trio team only has Mikasa who hasn't turned into a titan, fighting girl!
No matter what the secret in the basement was, if Erwin was still alive, he would be directing another war, and so on.
Both Erwin and Armin have a desire, but for Erwin, it is an obsession, and for Armin, it is a dream, overcoming all the hardships of the present.
RIP, great commander, Erwin. He deserves respect. Also Levi. A very difficult decision.
So we can hope for the Armin-Annie couple then lol Rip Bertholdt, that dude did his best, but let Armin take care of Annie.
Anyway, Bertholdt's titan form is also an iconic character of AOT. So now Armin will turn colossal titan?
I strongly dislike comparing Erwin to the devil. I mean C'mon
The moment of truth.
Look at Eren and Armin together, Erwin will surely smile.
Humanity wins. Armin is strong enough to fight all the titans alone.
Armin aka Hulk.
Why until now am I finally seeing Eren's flashbacks of the basement?
104 there are too many survivors.
Golden silence scene.
55 eps to get to this big rock, it's only been six years and it feels like twenty years.
I completely understand Eren and Mikasa's feelings. I also have a similar experience.
Doesn't look like the OP. Please reveal the secret..
Why didn't they break down the door? Doesn't the lock look that sturdy?
Yeah that's what i'm saying
Levi reads book? Well rare here.
Even if it's a desk drawer, as long as Levi breaks it, everything will be revealed, where is the key so necessary? I thought it must be the diamond box.
Yo familiar friends, they should have helped Erwin.
Why are they back? The moment of return and the journey back is that simple? meh
Yo completely rational, another world?
what, young Bertholdt?
