I loved this anime and I would have given it 10/10 if it wasn't for the fact Muroi and Sunako died. I hated them both so much and honestly, I think that Sunako wouldn't be half as popular as she is if she wasn't a cute little girl. Well, at least Toshio didn't die, he was my favorite character in this series. 9/10, I loved it otherwise.

Well...I have to admit that this ending was a bit disappointing, but not bad.¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I liked the fact that the anime make us think about a couple of things, like about us as individuals and society, at least i did ^^"

This was such an amazing anime. There is such a great story and it was realistic in a sense that if there were vampires, this is how it would probably play out. I'm glad I chose to watch this, even though I'm not a fan of vampires.

7/10. Would have been a solid 10/10 if that little girl had got staked. I get we were supposed to feel sorry for the shiki but apart from some of the villagers that got turned, they deserved it imo.

In the manga (currently on chapter 37 in Japan) they are still on war (Shiki x Humans). oh, so the ending is anime only? ok then. and what a war, its so fucking awesome, much better than the anime. The manga focus on several supporting characters, characters that we saw in 2 seconds in the anime...And ofc i would have to say it that the manga is so much more detailed. They actually removed awesome scenes which pisses me off a lot. Like the fact that in the manga when Natsuno becomes a jinrou the first person he talks to is Tohru. And it is Tohru who tells everything about the shiki´s plans to Natsuno. THAT SOUNDS EPIC. Also, Like the fact that Kaori suddenly appears on the hospital with Natsuno and Akira on the anime. WTF! Kaori and Natsuno had their moment in the manga. It was actually Natsuno who went to rescue her, and it was the only time we saw him smile after he became a shiki. that's really sweet. can't get enough of mah boi nasuno. And Natsuno´s gaze to Ritsu and Tohru was sweetly sad. yeah, broke my dang heart, bro. | SHE LIVES! Unexpected actually, untill you see Muroi standing up ofcourse. I felt sorry for Megumi, the way she died :( Also ... just like in any anime, as long as you don't see a character die ... it's not that hard to believe they're still alive, that being Natsuno and Tetsumi. God ... this anime sure got me filled with emotions. I'd say the first half was very intriguing and lots of mystery going on, 9/10 The second half on the other hand ... don't even get me started, I was on the edge of my seat, wondering what would happen, who would die, what the solution to their "shiki" problem would be. I'm glad the villagers decided to cross the line between Shiki and just killing because they feel like it (just look at Muroi's mother and the rest at the temple) - Made it a lot more believable as I see this could happen in real life aswell. (That being the actions "humans" take) Solid 10/10, especially they way they handled the entire show, well done *claps* APaula said: I liked the fact that the anime make us think about a couple of things, like about us as individuals and society, at least i did ^^" Oh it definitely did for me aswell, you'd have to not care about the show (or the message it's trying to portray) to not see it to be honest ^^ |

All the good things that have already been said about the anime, pretty true. Tbh though, I would've liked to see more Natsuno, or just more of all of the werewolves. They were the real outlier characters and made the anime so intense. I would definitely recommend you all to read the manga to read on the stuff that was left out of the anime, like Yoshie freaking out about Sunako's command to abandon the village leading her to commit suicide, Tatsumi's shpeel of Sunako and how he knew her plan wasn't going to work, Natsuno meeting Tohru-chan and forcing him to tell him the secrets, Natsuno biting Toshio, etc Good stuff, this anime :')

Cause in the manga which is more close to the novel.... Well more close to the novel there is still many things that was changed but the anime sugar coated the bad stuff the humans did... like the bearded bastard he makes a big speech about the village being a community but in the manga he makes a different speech and his more monster then human. I dont agree with them killing but I do understand why |

I dont agree with them killing but I do understand why this would have never happened if the shiki never existed anyway. and if you're talking about morals, the shiki aren't exactly innocent either. you should remember that if you said anything like how you didn't like being a shiki, or if you were going to stop eating humans, sunako would punish you, and there was even a chance you were put to death. just like humans, there would be a breakout in a fight (or even a war) because of a difference of opinions. |

the humans in the villagers was selfish from the beginning the manga covers more on why the monk betrayed those red necks sunako wanted her kind to be accpted but she knows that will never happned because of what she and her kind are ...... i mean do you really believe people will just accept her even if she just told them who and what they are. look at the humans they killed even there own fellow humans because they even think they betrayed them or they got bitten once. the humans forced people in to doing what they wanted them to do like the monks father they threated him to contiune his work. they had it coming in my opinion

The ending of this anime was pretty rushed. It leaves you with more questions than answers. Also, Natsuno was a really interesting character, but he received little screen-time. Nevertheless, this anime was intense and it kinda teaches you the consequences of survival and show the true colors of the vampire-genre. Now do you want to be a vampire? I don't think so. I'm still wondering what happened to Natsuno's mother. My best guess is that she was brainwashed to walk-out of the house. She kept walking without stop until she died of starvation or exposure to sunlight.

9/10 . I don't get why Natsuno is favored that much. Natsuno showed passive-aggressive behavior at whole time, as if he didn't know what to do with this village life. He came from big city and he could deal with Megumi in a civilized way, since he was a symbol of her going to big city dream. So, in the end, he was victim of himself. I didn't feel any mercy for him. For Ozaki, poor Ozaki, he was a stubborn annoying doctor. He got angrier since couldn't save his patients, not to mention her family tradition's shadow. He saw this illness as the challenge to his job and himself; he forgot to focus on treatments of patients and he was defeated. Sunako got alive out of that hell. To me, she was the only character who knew what to do and how to do. But, in the end, she has failed. Muroi was a redemption-seeking type guy who was disappointed by his own belief or deity. Now, he has a new deity. I think that Muroi was fond of Sunako greatly. She was free, himself not. But, then again, Muroi's saving Sunako was weird. I would rather prefer someone else. But, I laughed at last three episodes. Kinda like; 'You, shiki shiki shikis are evil! But we still humans can be more more evil! How is that, shiki shiki?!' Overall, Sunako rises to my top ten best characters list, but the anime rises to top fifty. o O

I'm a little annoyed at the fact Seishin and Sunako survived. I was so ready for Ookawa to put that stake through her heart. I can't tell if Seishin killing someone was a change in his character, or an inconsistency with how his character would've handled that situation. I remember the Seishin was anti-killing in general. Yet he killed :/ I'm glad Ozaki survived though, because if Seishin lived but Ozaki didn't? Oh boy. Natsuno went out in a badass way. I loved the absolutely carnage the last few episodes, and I totally enjoyed that slow but interesting build up to it. I'm pretty sad that Masao didn't get more screen time since he was my favorite character. I enjoyed his crazy antics. Too bad he died. I did feel like they should've extended the ending a little to let the events settle in more. Anyway, very enjoyable battle of survival between two different kinds of people.

So I've finished the anime and overall I think that it was a really great one! It did took me 5/6 episodes to really get into it tho but I didn't expect to like it this much. I was afraid it turned out to be some cliche vampire story but I was wrong. For the doctor, I didn't particularly like or dislike him though I wish he tried to protect people harder when he learned about the shiki. The people were so delusional when he tried to tell them about it and it was smart of him to bring over one of them so they can see for themselves. I love how they hunted down and killed the shikis immediatly and without hesitation and that this haven't been dragged for 1000 episodes, I was afraid that they might have been reluctant and stuff but it was the perfect opposite and I sort of think they even got carried away with this. Oh my the epic beard guy tho!!! I was soooo sad when he died. Now Natsuno I feel the same way about him than I feel about the doctor. I didn't particularly like or dislike him and I didn't mind him surviving or dying. But when he said to Tatsumi something like: You guys kill people and automatically assume that they're on your side when they wake up, I thought it was extremely spot on. Talking about Tatsumu, he pissed me off the entire anime but I didn't particularly wanted him dead tho it was necessary. Among all the shikis, the only ones I liked were Natsuno's friend and the green haired nurse. Their behaviour were the most human like and I found them really relatable. I empathize with them alot. I want to give particular probs to the nurse behaviour. When we saw their corpses I was quite sad but I was glad that at least they didn't show their death. Now Megumi, I disliked her, not as much as everyone did but yeah. That being said I was indifferent to her being murdered or surviving. I do think her death was brutal and extremely cruel tho like why didn't they impaled her immediatly. To finish Muroi and Sunako. Muroi left me indifferent at first. But the minute he decided not to help the doctor the minute I've started to dislike him and it went crescendo up to the point where I hated him. And Sunako, I hated her the minute I saw her. I was soooo looking forward to their death. Now it annoyed me enough that Muroi didn't die but for Sunako it's on another level. Weirdly tho on this last episode, I find myself feeling quite sorry for her when she tried to escape and everything but I still wanted her dead. The fact that she survived pisses me off, like EXTREMELY. It kinda ruined the end for me. But to talk about the end itself, as much as I love fast paced anime I do think it was a bit rushed and that they could have split it in 2 to 3 episodes.

Cool ending. Liked how it fit with Muroi's story - one side kills the other, in the process killing itself. Muroi and Sunako get away because as long as the will to live survives, conflict will survive (the younger brother was able to disappear after admitting that he was thankful that the elder killed him. But Muroi now has a purpose, so). Or at least that's how I justify it to myself. Would've also liked it if they died together. Probably giving this series a 7. First non-seasonal I've finished in a while.

Overall thought it was a decent Anime, the whole thing with Muroi and Sunako was retarded and I really wished they died horribly, also Megumi's death was awesome, I laughed while watching it, bitch got what she deserved. The series tried to make me sympathize with the Shiki but I never did.

I think a big reason why Sunako was disliked was because she actually went on a genocide mission on the village instead of looking for long term sustainability with the village and 'coexistence' with the village. No matter how you dice it, it was Lebensraum genocide. Now this is where people really get irked. In the end, conveniently, she goes a wawa poor me diatribe when the tables are turned. You don't get to cry away after all you've done. That's pathetic. Same goes for Tohru, what's the point of putting dead flowers at friend's home where you murdered him, what's the point of mourning and saying sorry. You just committed a double sin, you knew you had to kill him either to survive or it was the best option. OWN IT!!! Have your friend hate you, that's the least you can do, that's your cross to bear. Don't throw your heavy weight on the roadside and wail after all you've done. Had Sunako practiced restraint, set forth regulations, targeting healthy victims, (not old people and children) to minimise deaths none of this would've fallen hard on her. You practice a complete genocidal removal of humans from their long ancestral home, you remove family members one by one until their line is dead, you replaced their businesses with your own. How do you Shiki loving people resolve this? They show you 2 episodes of shiki being hunted down and the previous 20 episodes are wiped clean off the slate?

I think many people here are just blatantly missing whole point of this show. "Weh weh, this is what I'd liked to happen..." "X deserved this, cause I think so" "X should've died/escaped because I hate/love X" I'm so happy I didn't drop this show at half way. Yes, the writing was occasionally really infuriating and things seemed to stall forever, but at some point (~15 eps in) my attitude towards the show changed pretty drastically. I gave up, became much more of a passive viewer and just started to let the show carry me along with it. Shiki was just about witnessing different species trying to survive in their own worlds. I honestly don't get the value of trying to moralize or rationalize anything about this show. I couldn't care less about who lived, who's a shitty character or what would've been the perfect ending. I was doubtful about the early episodes, really infuriated during the early half of the show and absolutely in love with the finale. I'm really glad that I stuck through with this show.

I don't know how they could have made the ending any better. Of course it's not a happy end, and they don't tie up every loose end neatly. But I think it would have left a very bad taste if there was one more episode, where the doctor and the kids are living a happy life in the city and reminisce about that one time they escaped death... I also don't mind that the Shiki will continue to live on. They definitely suffered a heavy loss, and I am satisfied with that. I still don't 100% get the motivations of that guy with the dogs and the guns, but I can think of reasons for his shift in behaviour. I felt like the confrontation between Natsuno and Tatsumi was only a little bit underwhelming. Natsuno was like the protagonist for 50% of the series, I wish his ending would have been a bit more... epic. But it was definitely fitting nonetheless and a noble sacrifice. I will give Shiki a 10/10, but only because it hit all of the right spots for me, so to speak. It probably deserves a 8.5/10 for the average viewer.

Well that was...slightly disappointing. There was no sense of closure one way or the other. Yes, Toshio and the town killed most of the shiki, but Sunako still survived, along with Muroi. Couldn't they just start all over in a new village? Did they leave it that way to end the series with a mystery? I don't know. Regardless, the ending just felt too rushed.

I kinda have mixed feeling about Sunako's survival. In a way I think all the Shiki should have died including her and Muroi but their survival was somewhat poetic and suited for the ending settings. Enjoyed the anime overall, even tho it started very slow and it had some unnecessary over-the-top elements. 7.7/10 - Awesome vampire-related anime and personally my favorite among the genre at the moment.

I've just finished the full show (including the two specials). Perhaps word of mouth about this show overhyped it, but I'm a little underwhelmed by the ending episodes. Contrary to the popular opinion, I think the show started out a little stronger than it ended. I should give it a day or two to sink in, though. P.S. I still hate Seishin. Not sure if I'll write an actual review of the show.
