I do ship them since I find them cute together, but even I admit Kirito's pretty bland and there's almost nothing special about Asuna. Though, opinions exist. Let them like what they want. |
Help, I'm hooked into the Fate series (not all) and am obsessed with Shirou x Saber! Also, forever hoping for a ufotable remake of the Fate route! |

Asuna was pretty stressed out by her life of high expectations and tried the game SAO for the sake of it. She felt the terror of her life being put in the biggest danger when she did virtually nothing. She didn't crumble in that. She's one to rise under pressure. She became skilled with the sword and became one of the commandants of the strongest guild. Then she met Kirito again from the first time they met when the game only just begun. To sum up Asuna is a kind and strong person. Her screen time being pretty much cut off is another subject. Thank you. I personally hate SAO with a passion but people buy into the idea that a perfect simple romance can exist. My problem with how they handled it with asuna and kirito is that they handled it so vanilla-like that it turned into straight garbage right from the start. I really have no problems with straight romance but it's a hard sell since kirito is sold as a "harem hero" all throughout the show. |

Well that's not wrong. Kirito is like the most average kind of MC ever with so many boring clones... and Asuna... meh. It's just the waifu of the series.. I don't understand all those waifus wars like Kaguya, Raphtalia or Chika this season either...and when you see the same characters everytime you get so tired of them. |

characters with no personality are who the majority of people identify with because since they are so bland its easy to glue your personality onto them (and youre probably a little bland yourself no offence, most people are because thats what makes you normal). think any silent protagonist in a video game (like link from zelda) its the same thing with bland characters in anime and movies. now also consider that kirito is the best at everything in the world he lives in. Most things that happen revolve around him or require him to be there to be solved. Why wouldnt guys want to be him or chicks want to be with him? |

Maybe because the villains are so incredibly terribly written that it makes everyone else in the cast look multidimensional in comparison? But honestly, Kirito and Asuna are two of the more interesting chars in the show. Most of the sidecast/harem as well as the villains get a lot less or a lot worse characterization, nevermind development. I still don't think they are very great characters, but they're decent and getting better the further the story progresses, and if there's any characters you're gonna like in the show it's those two so it makes sense to me. They outshine almost everyone else in SAO and that's what makes them popular. It doesn't matter how much you like them compared to *insert random better anime most SAO fans probably haven't seen*. SAO is popular and they are probably the best characters from that show, for whatever that is worth. |
I probably regret this post by now. |

Real people usually lack personality themselves and therefore characters without it are relatable to most and quite popular. |

Damn dude you must be a real pussy to post this with a fake account. Anyways people like them for the same reason you do, so they can project themselves upon kirito and imagine a life where they eternally fuck a dime. |

Well, it really depends on what you are comparing SAO to. I'm not saying SAO is absolutely the worst anime out there, just that I simply hate how it turned out. One show being bad doesn't stop other shows being bad. |

finally..............a thread i was waiting for like, in ages.....................I mean, I will respect people's opinions at most places but a few things are you know, kind of unacceptable and impossibly weird.................Like liking that "help for women only" kirito.................He is not some badass, unlike the popular opinion.....he is just a stupid gaming freak, a horny guy who divides people on the basis of their gender and appearance....... Coming to Asuna, in one word, she is A FUCKING BITCH........no less appalling than kirito, earlier I thought that she was a kind person and independent..but later it was made clear that she is a fucking bitch.........In one of sao episodes, (when kirito killed kuradeel), did anyone notice that the commander(who was with kirito) died when kuradeel killed him, and after asuna saves kirito, they kiss and start flirting.............I mean, one of your fucking friend died, you bastards....at least mourn a little!!!!!!!! people like those who will kill anyone for their fucking sexual love, who will care about nothing but their own partner(oops............kirito does care about women though), and will be happy if they get to fuck even if the world totters, are the scums I detest the most........ BTW, in alicization, You saw kirito killed the prime senator.......if now he leaves the pontifex alive(who is of course much bigger criminal than chudelkin) sto reflect on her "actions", then it will be proved, how much of a "women only" party he is.......I can guarantee you, if fanatio was a man, kirito would have ignored him.......And asuna is pretty much the same...the only difference being that she helps only one male, and that is kirito...........People who look at other people's gender before helping them, anyone may like them, but for me, they are absolute filthy scums, just like THE SAO PROTAGONISTS!!!!!!!!!!! |

In general people who say that Kirito and Asuna have no personality probably haven't read the LN yet. I don't care if you call the Anime Kirito and Asuna bland since that is pretty much true, but their LN counterparts are a whole other story. Pro tip, joining on the "I hate SAO bandwagon" does not make you an "elite" anime watcher. |

I found them to be much interesting in the book than the anime. A1 picture didn't give them full justice. |

Because they are easily selling tropes of teenager love which is the favorite argument of the targeted audience of anime: angsty teenagers. What makes Kirito and Asuna special is that they are easily recognizable (A1 pictures developed a easy but catchy style) and their anime is fairly good animated and polished for the average viewer. Nothing strange since what make stuff "popular" is that they emphasize the average taste in anime in their given period and this works in every market possible. |

A mom in the first half of season 2, and some actual character in the second half of season two that makes her really likable and relatable. Also Progressive (especially the manga) make her a really fun and likable character aside from being a sexy waifu. I mean it is all subjective. I mean people love Jo Jo despite being a piece of crap :-p. I found Asuna in the light novel for Progressive to be much better than the manga. In the manga, there a lot of unnecessary fanservice for her. Well the fan service definitely help for me XD. Also I just think Asuna is just a much better main character than Kirito. Kirito is better in smaller doses, because he is a bit too op at times. While Asuna is more of a newbie with hidden talent learning from Kirito. With lots of baggage compare to Kirito who feels more at home in the game than in real life. That's why I personally love the manga better personally who has the story from her perspective. Versus the light novel where its from Kirito perspective. |
