OST is pretty good. I also like the way the action sequence had been done in this episode. Not overly epic but it gives a better understanding of all of the mechanics.

Very interesting game mechanics. This reminds me of the good old days when i played MMORPG games with my friends.
And the best way to deal with PK's was to log in your MC or ask your buddies for help ^_^

This brings back memories from my Runescape days, not that I'd like to go back to playing it again.

Log Horizon has kept a very neat combination of light humor and pensive moments. I'm liking all the characters so far; they don't feel like cardboard cutouts but rather humans with real feelings (well, as real as you could get in anime).

I love how Shiroe actually goes into detail about the mechanics of the MMORPG, it's interesting to hear and reminds me of MMORPGs I've played. The ending scene with them flying on the gryphons was really nice.

Pretty badass PK match. There was a part where I don't really understand, why did Shiroe says that they'll fail (the GM), and instead Shiroe's team should go fetch the other guild member?

I guess it's sort of doing its job as an MMORPG anime ... but I can't help but feel it's somewhat lackluster.

I mean, even the characters themselves admitted that they "had nothing to do" -- there's no tension, or driving plot. I know there'll be complications later on, some has already been put into light, but besides the main "how'd we get stuck in this" issue, there's really nothing else driving this.

Can't help but feel that the fact that they are stuck in the game is but a cheap way to write a story about an MMORPG without having to deal with the fact that people have "real lives" ...

That's where the drama kicks in I guess. I mean, nothing is worse than a boring life, and sooner or later without a life goal, they'll soon get bored, giving up on their lives etc..

I know it's just a game, but still heartless (especially virtual reality game)
But PvP it's alright, as long you don't kill the player xD

What's Naotsugu's subclass? Maybe pervertism xD
For me, I want to take subclass chemistry!!
Oh, Akatsuki & Shiroe rode on a griffon.. so romantic xD

Nice to know the 3 of them don't fear death. I've seen animes where it's the opposite. Shiroe's team is beast, a silent killer ninja, a tank with brute force, and then the mage. Seems like a very balanced squad. The first half of the show was awesome, they pawned those PK's like rag dolls. Then towards the end we get to see moe Akatsuki, and even shy Akatsuki when climbing the Griffon, kawaii.

PvPing in an actual MMO isn't really heartless (unless you decide to corpse-camp players or gank low levels, then it gets annoying...). After all, PKing is bound to be part of the game in whatever fashion. Duels between opposite factions where one player doesn't die are unheard, although I guess it would be alright here considering it is a VMMORPG. It didn't look like the gankers dropped anything though, so dying there is just a matter of lost convenience not perma-death...

Anyways, I'm enjoying the MMORPG focus of this anime. I wonder why they didn't just use griffons the whole time in the first place? (After all, there's literally no point (other than for the scenery) in walking or using ground mounts in an actual MMO when you have flying mounts...)

There IS a risk to repeatedly dying but it wont be touched upon until much later. I wont spoil it though. I'll say this: it's really similar to dying only that it isn't death of the body but the death of the "self"...

And actually most items not registered to be item locked to a specific player gets dropped when you get PKd or killed. Along w/ a significant chunk of the players gold. That's why the bank threat was so serious.

As for the griffons they really just didn't want to stand out because during the first few days guilds were really aggressive in recruiting members and one look at a griffon (w/c is a rare item you get from completing a hard and rare raid quest only a few players were able to complete) practically screams "veteran player". Thus a lot of "pests" would have swarmed them and annoyed to join their guilds.

All info are from the novels btw.

Nevermind lol, my question was answered in the first few minutes of the next episode... *sigh* Sorry, I was just remembering the Hillsbrad Foothills PvP massacring from WoW. Good times.

Edit: Well, too bad they have to act realistically and their corpses disappear. It would be a nice change of pace to suddenly see this

I originally was thinking this show was just an SAO clone (I'm not a huge SAO fan, honestly that show was decent but not amazing) but I have to say I don't think that anymore. SAO to me felt like someone researched MMOs when making it, but never played any. However Log Horizon feels like the people who made it actually play MMOs. A lot of what the characters say and feel about certain game aspects seems very much like a real MMO. Also, the game mechanics as a whole feel more MMO like. The taunt ability was a really nice touch. I also like that tanks actually exist in this 'game' unlike in SAO where there only seemed to be one tank in the whole damn show, and no healers. Yeah, real MMO like...
Overall a good watch. I didn't think I would enjoy this as much as I am.

I agree with this too. They say their stuck in the video game but I'm not convinced of it. SOA did a better job portraying that. SOA also had the die in the game die in real life drama going for it. I feel more like I'm watching people play an MMO then I am watching an anime with a story. It may eventually develop more of a story, who knows? If I was so concerned about the MMORPG-Anime genre to be like a real MMO, I would just play a MMO, I'm here for story and waiting...

"i have no right to involve myself in someone else's guild" - a bit cliché, but okay, thats his opinion.

"and they wouldn't want that" - uh..they asked you the episode (so a few days or so) before to join, and they just now asked you to lead the guild while the guild leader is absent. I wouldn't call that not wanting. Especially as leading the guild is way more involved compared to rescueing a guild member.

No, they were trying to be as inconspicuous as possible. Since griffons are super rare raid quest rewards whom only a few elite players in the entire server possessed they'll be identified as high level players from the get-go and would have been swarmed w/ guild invitations left and right.

Well, we got to learn a bit more about the world they are trapped in and what kind of people live in.

Shiroe can be so awkward :P

Akatsuki is adorable :3
She look so chibi xD

The story for now seem to be going a bit nowhere... I hope that at one point there will be a main plot other than traveling around the world and find something to occupy themself.

The scenes in the preview look like it was taken in the Moria from LOTR :P

Solid episode, displays the great strategic skills of the main character.

Looking forward to the next episode.

I want to find out why they're stuck in this game world though, and why is it that when they die they respawn.

That PvP match was awesome.
I agree that this anime atm lacks a driving force in its plot since nobody can die. lol
I guess it will be revealed in the later episodes and I think it's somewhere along the lines of learning to cope with their situation and finding out who brought them in the game.

Oh that's good, when they die, they respawn.
Too bad there's PKing. They'll have to respawn on and on and on. With this, villains will appear.

Ah, so they have classes and subclasses, like a normal MMORPG.
Akatsuki is an Assassin with a subclass of Tracker.
Naotsugu is a Guardian with an unknown subclass.
Shiroe is an Enchanter with a Scribe subclass.

Serara is in trouble, so Shiroe and his party will use their Griffons and save her.
The Debauchery Tea Party is still shrouded in mystery. With this, backstories will appear.
I’m always searching for something, for someone. This feeling has possessed me I think, from that day… That day when the stars came falling.

I went back upon find out a place actually had the dub. And I've this to say. The voices are pretty good thus far and the overall translation is fine...but some of the euphemisms are really stupid in English.
The highlight thus far would be Akio Furukawa as Naotsugu, although Jad Braxton as Akatsuki is simply adorable.
I go by many names, some call me Hoshimaru, others call me Jiro or Aosou-Kun.
I believe myself a force for good, a papercrafter by trade, and one who seeks love and beauty animesque.

I have mixed feelings about the whole respawning when you die thing. Like it's nice that they did something different with it and all (since basically every other anime with this premise handles it where you die for real if you die in the game), but at least as of right now it seems like it'll take a lot of the suspense out of combat scenes. Otherwise, still holding my interest quite well.
