everyone i know that knew i hated Light Yagami thought i wasnt going to like Lulu but to be honest as far as what i have seen i dont mind Lulu but that is bc he is doing what he is doing for his sister willing to sacrifice whoever to make sure she is safe so I can live with that.

Oh My God. I am so satisfied and excited right now.

I thought that he may be a nobles son because he was a Britanian and he seemed high class but he's the prince?! Never saw that coming!!

His tactics during the battle were spectacular and so smart, loving this anime so much.
Pirates are evil? The Marines are righteous? These terms have always changed throughout the course of history! Kids who have never seen peace and kids who have never seen war have different values! Those who stand at the top determine what's wrong and what's right! This very place is neutral ground! Justice will prevail, you say? But of course it will! Whoever wins this war becomes justice!

A sly protagonist with an impeccable and clever brain? I am hooked. His intellect singlehandedly destroyed an entire army and it was spectacular. I'm expecting more and want more!

Re-watching this show after having first watched it years ago when it first aired. I'm liking the reasonable pacing so far, especially since slow pacing in anime has become a huge turn off for me over the years.

I'm a little worried looking at the comments for this episode. Will I not like this if I hate mechs? Cause I mean, I didn't see any really intelligent strategy in this episode it was just mechs fighting and fighting and more fighting which looks like some kids cartoon or something :/

I'll keep watching probably until the last episode since this is so highly rated and people talk about it as much as Death Note. Well hopefully it does get a lot better. It wouldn't have such a high rating if it stayed like this the whole time. Not everyone likes mechs after all....

So did he get all that knowledge from that green-haired girl? How to control a mecha and the code for the rebel-communication and all that? Was a good episode, didn't expect him to go straight to that blonde guy.

Rewatching.

Epic battle. This episode showcases what is so good about this anime: Lelouch's tactics.

Wow, so many of you missed him picking up the rebel's radio in the first episode...

Is he planning to defeat the Britannians from the inside? Still not sure what to think of his actions, but it seems like this is it. So the elevens rebel against the Britannians, well it can't be avoided based on how the Britannians treated them.

im torn. it seems like a cool premise and im normally a fan of the game theory/analysis type of thing, but lelouch just is too irritating. his attitude is like one of those pretentious-preteens you just wanna kick.
will keep watching, but man was very disappointed with the very cheesy and forced "integrate chess into it" thing. I've seen the chess thing done well and that wasnt it.

Yeah, there was a mix of good developments and tenuous developments, but the chess motif was indeed pretty bland. I often doubt that the people who write these stories even know how chess works.

The chess motifs could definitely be worse though. Another anime comes to mind...

It was a decent episode substantively. In terms of direction, I found it quite entertaining.

If nothing else, I think the chess motif was justified with Lelouch doing something as ridiculous as moving the king forward and having that be seen as a weird move, yet it reflecting a very valid principle for leadership.

I just hope Suzaka's character is not as bad like people make him out to be, so far he seems ok.

09:55 Lelouch is a mastermind, good

Maybe Lelouch is psychotic(?) for laughing when he defeated the mechas. But, then I did too

LanceLot looks fucking awesome!

WHAT! The prince is his big brother?

Well, he is 17th in line, so not even close.

Awesome episode! I will have to binge it now

Main character's name is super irritating to me. And I think that his immediate transition from normal student to a cunning mastermind like in a minute was really improbable and forced. Everybody compares this anime with Death Note, however in the latter's case it all went smooth and natural.

And his tactics... well, we didn't really see them except for the "one mecha goes underground and everything explodes somehow". It's like the creators want us to think Lelouch is genius, but have trouble actually depicting it and coming up with something clever. For comparison, L figuring out at the very beginning that Light lives in Tokyo awestruck me.

And it is really strange how they gave an uber weapon to a nearly dead random japanese(!) soldier and he went all grim reaper on the field. I hope it will be explained though. At this moment, however, it just feels like they wanted two friends to fight (coz its so cool!), but didn't really set things up.

What's more, the graphics are also irritating. Like super long legs, triangular faces... I don't know, I started watching Code Geass after Death Note, but it's not really that similar in terms of quality.
However, it's still too early to decide on dropping it and I'm gonna watch another few episodes. Maybe it's going to get real good ;)

^Confusing episode. How the hell does Lelouch know how to power those things? And wasn't he just a normal student like 1 episode ago? Lol shit just get's more confusing everytime. Meh maybe after some episodes I'll start to get it ^_^

when i first saw the episode i questioned that myself, and i just think that he just used the girl he brainwashed in the begining, to told him how to use the machine, i mean i don't think he could just learnt to use that thing by just seeing it

A solid second episode that continues the action of the previous right where it left off. While the first episode had the heavy lifting of establishing the world and characters. The second shows off one of the areas the series really excelled at. Crazy and clever giant robot action scenes. We already get a taste of Lelouch is brilliant strategic mind and chess like approach to battle. And the Lancelot robot is so cool. If they're already breaking it out for the first big battle. I can't wait to see some of the later mechs this show comes up with. Juicy little cliffhanger hook too that Lelouch is a royal thought dead. I'm curious how long the fan service high school squad will be important in the series. Also didn't realize until I caught it in the OP this time that Clamp did the character designs for this show. Makes a lot of sense though.

Love how Lelouch didn't flinch when he got shot at. He was like "bitch please!"
Love how Lelouch just played her.
Suzaku lives. Strange place to put a watch.
Damn Britannian's. How dare you make my waifu, Kallen, cry?
Love how Lelouch started strategizing like its a game of chess.
Dat smile.
Dat laugh. These dudes are getting owned by a 17 year old with no battle experience aside from a game of chess who had no clue his day was going to turn to shit and just started improvising just so he can save himself.
Suzaku gets inside the robot.
Suzaku owning everybody and ruining Lelouch's plans.
Holy crap! Suzaku just did the spin kick on Lelouch again, but this time in the Lancelot. LOL
NO! Don't kill my waifu!
Lelouch saved my waifu just in time.
So Lelouch is a prince afterall.

Another great episode.

Lelouch has no idea that he's fighting against his childhood friend...this could get ugly. Realistically, Suzaku should be on Lelouch's side, but he's been brainwashed by Britannia...

I guess you learn to drive giant robots at school when you're part of the superior class.
With Lancelot's introduction, I can throw out of the window the idea of war using "reasonable" weapons. Even in the robots department, they had to be "cool" by having a superhero robot.
A nice touch is that the bad guys have the white mobile suit this time around.

Well, I know what I'm supposed to get from this episode but that's it. For example, I understand that I am supposed to deduce Lelouch's strategist abilities from his prowess on the battlefield. But I didn't see it myself. I know that he's an american prince but I was lead to think he was a japanese boy.
Hoping there will be an episode revealing how a little happy jap.child became a masochist

Not a fan of the chess analogy who erased the human death caused by the "hero".

4/5 Not a mecha fan but the action sure looked nice.

Coolness factor : +1

@CodeBlazeFate A starting key?! If this was a Gundam series, this would be a revolution! No more Gundam-jack!

@brendennp I supposed it was like he did at first for all the things he needed to provide: just "ask" them to the right people (under geass).
