I can understand why this is hyped up so much but I didn't find it as sad as I would have hoped.

Will definitely remember this anime and the amazing music played throughout

RIP best girl, I only wish Kaori and Kousei told each other they loved each other in person..arGHHH

Beautiful final episode. Already got spoiled but the feels were still strong.

Overall it was enjoyable. Cast was enjoyable (except for Tsubaki) and the musical performances were incredible. It did have some melodrama that dragged down the series for me but I still enjoyed the show.

As a musician, having music associated with my mother's and lover's death would be really cruel. I would abandon it just like what happened with piano-kun.

We all knew that she was gonna die at the end but that predictability didn't matter because this anime was really well made.

i swear i predict this ending since episode 4
can't believe this shit is rated 8.93 yea i will never trust this site's ratings again

Boring story, cringey characters, annoying girls, predictable ending, the "funny" scenes were just cringey af
and for a music anime the music was kinda good at first then it just became so fuckin repetitive
Animation was good tho, what a waste.

Zero feels.

so far the most ridiculous, boring, stupid and annoying cartoon I have seen.

Disgusting melodrama, the comedy is abysmal, the characters are bland and annoying.
Maybe it's 2sad4me but I don't know...

Nicely done in my opinion 9/10 for me.
I would have given it a 10 if it weren't for those forced outburst for comic relief.
Seriously; whenever they suddenly go on a comedic scene that made them look like characters pulled from Crayon Shin Chan I cringe because it's totally unnecessary because it completely destroys the build up of tension and anticipation that would have multiplied the dramatic effect. Anything else I have no problem with it. I totally get that the series was completely about 2 people and everybody was just supplementary, so people giving this anime a low grade simply because they weren't given enough air time arguably don't get the anime at all.
"Manga readers are annoying, all they do is complain or spoil the anime we discuss in an anime forum.
They should really do their whining at manga forums.

Alright so the ending was REALLY sad and it definitely hit me in the feels.
Kaori not revealing her feelings untill the end because she knew she'd be gone very soon :/

Kousei playing the piano with Kaori on the violin was a fanatastic scene.

The story was really good but at the same time "cliche" (no pun intended)

... I just dont know how I feel about this show, it's really trying to be dramatic and all with Kousei's past and Kaori's disease and at the same time it's not with it's poorly timed jokes.

The characters were defintely not bad, the animation/art was a blast to look at and the performances were amazing and at the same time a bit annoying as you would know they were going to have a monologue on every play.

Anyhow, I think it could've been a lot better but it did good what it was trying to portray.

8/10

It was a good series i give it a 7/10 everything i needed to know was revealed in the letter of the last episode.

Shocked said:
Perhaps the greatest tragedy is for a show to be watched once, then be left to gather dust. I don't want this to happen to Your Lie in April, as it deserves much more than that. I want to see this show reach even greater heights, though I'm sure that Your Lie in April is set on its course to the end. I wish the show was slower, taking its time to let us observe and listen to what it was trying to do. I wanted it to take its time, easing us into its characters and story. I'm not giving up yet, as in this show still lies great potential to prove to me it deserves the rank it has on this site, as well as the praise I've heard it receive two years ago. I want this show to prove me wrong.

Let's see...this episode gave a performance that outdid every other one in the show, perhaps one of the greatest musical performances I've seen thus far in anime. It was almost entirely devoted to the performance itself, primarily using visuals to show what Kousei and Kaori were feeling without being distracted by other charactes or the audience. The episode was a lot slower, taking its time reminiscing the events that occured over the past year. We had a wonderful moment when Kousei was just reading Kaori's letter, reacting to Kaori's words line by line. We even had a callback to explain Kaori's history with Kousei, as well as an explanation to what "your lie in April" meant. Lastly, Tsubaki finally managed to speak her feelings clearly to Kousei, to which he responded in kind, leaving just enough for the audience to guess at the future of all the characters in the show.

Well, I got what I wanted. Though, I'm still not sure why none of the episodes actually ever aired in April, and how the last episode apparently ended just short of April. I'm also unsure of how the show used crying a lot. It was used in the very first episode in fact, though it could be argued that it was Kaori being happy at finally meeting Kousei. Still, I'm not a fan of overusing elements in shows, as each successive crying scene would weaken in strength, in spite of however heavy the scene in question may be. Again, this is just a thought on my part, as it's a way I could have seen the show perform even better than it did. Alas, I'm neither a writer nor a director, and I'd be greedy to ask for more than what was provided thus far. Your Lie in April answered most of my concerns, so I'll leave my thoughts to stir for a while. As for the show itself, I can see why people so well received the show, as well as why there was also a vocal population so fervently opposed to the show's existence. Though I wouldn't call this show one of my favorites, it's most definitely one of the most well-made shows I've seen in terms of visual polish and sound, and I don't think anyone in the right mind can take that away.

After the 2nd episode i couldn't stop watching but took a day's break and resumed again, well for some reason after the second episode tears would flow without me knowing...

The only thing i was left curious with was what was her disease (being a doc, it makes u think :p),
now thinking about it while writing this it has reminded me of a walk to remember(movie) ^^

Anyway the last performance was epic i wanted to seem them together again and it was brought up really nicely with all those colors and emotions! And most importantly the letter ,ah! it would have left a hole if it wasn't for it, dense headed kousei wouldn't have figured it out without it !!!

what is Kaori's sickness? is it ALS?
it's similar with someone from other anime with weakening legs and fingers symptoms
I guess Kaori is lucky that she died before she suffered even more when her entire body become paralyzed

anyway, 10/10 from me, what a great anime
bonus point since i'm also a musician. i'm asian-good but not as good as kousei XD
this anime reminds me why I stay away from classical stuff since i was kid, it's boring, i can relate to watari XD

I'm actually more curious about what happens to Kousei and the other characters after Kaori dies. Like what does Kousei end up going to for school, does he achieve international fame, if he goes oversea to study music more and if he and Tsubaki end up together. Basically I'm craving a ending more like Nodame Cantabile where everything tied together and the characters get a more rounded off ending instead of abruptly cut in half after one MC dies.

Overall... ok anime. I must be one of the minority who didn't shed tear or feel emotional at the end because I saw this coming and the plot reminded me of the book A Walk to Remember. So this didn't really strike me as new or unique. 7/10

I was an emotional trainwreck while (and after) watching this last episode. I felt happy at the start, because it looked like going for an even happy ending.

However, at some point, throughout Kousei's concerto, my mind began to twist and turn. For one second he was having fun playing piano, picturing Kaori at her most beautiful, and then, like a bolt from the blue, started to look down on the keys, as the song got depressive along with him.

The boy finishes his once-in-a-lifetime show, and shows up at a graveyard, speaking with the girl's parents.

I knew what was going on. I regret having finished this anime.

Well, I finished it, even though I had serious issues with how they practically glorified the subject matter of child abuse. Every time his mother is brought up after E13 I couldn't help but do an involuntary eye twitch out of annoyance. Kousei's last performance was beautiful, especially how he imagined Kaori being there playing alongside him for one last time. It was beyond obvious that she was going to die, there were numerous flags. I don't really know how I'm supposed to feel about them both being in love with the other when nothing happens.

The show repeatedly states that musicians put their words into music, and that's great and all, but it's kind of hollow to me. Does Kousei really believe that she loves Watari or is he just lying to himself? It's possible we can chalk it up to his abuse in one way or another, but it's seriously annoying how timid he acts. I think he actually believes that he never had a chance with her, despite her showing him otherwise. I didn't really feel sad or anything for Kousei after she died, I don't feel like I was ever given a reason to.

I know he truly loved her, but he's content to just idolize her from afar. Now Kaori's case is a lot different, I can't be sure exactly what her reasoning is. She has liked Kousei since the beginning, her lie being that she was interested in Watari. Once she was actually falling in love with Kousei I'm guessing she didn't want to pursue it due to her condition. Either because it would be too hard on her or she thought it would be too hard on him after she was gone. Her letter was incredibly sad and I found her death, even though extremely predictable, to still be quite tragic.

She dies without either of them telling each other how they feel, is this just supposed to add to the tragedy of it all? She does so in a letter, but if this was more realistic and not an anime I can't imagine anything more devastating. If Kousei was really that dense, he should be absolutely crushed that she was in love with him. I would say it's even selfish to say all that in the letter when you couldn't tell him how you felt when you both still had time. Again, it's an anime though, and the letter makes Kousei happy, even if it is sad. I don't know why I'm writing an essay here, so I'll stop.

Gah! Extremely frustrating show to watch! 6/10

The last play. It was deep, meaningful, full of sentiment. It was just Kousei and the piano. He was voicing his emotions with music, because he is bad with words. No inner thoughts, no narration, just him and his music... and Kaori.
The music was following his emotions. It started soft, reflecting his sadness. It got vivid and showed the impact of him "seeing" Kaori. It showed his anger, his sorrow, up to knowing that she may have already died... It got vivid and playful when he was just so happy of playing music one more time with her. It got faster and stronger when he did not want to let her go. In a way, they could play together one last time. The cruel destiny had already set her demise in stone, long time ago.

"Good Bye"

That's how he sealed the song, and said goodbye to that girl that became his twinkle twinkle star up in the sky, shining light to his path, the one person that gave colors to his life.

The letter she left behind just for him... man, that became my doom. I could not contain the tears. I didn't cry at all in the previous 21 episodes but this was too much and the tears broke lose. They had already met when they were 5 years old. HE was the one that shone light to HER life before, he was the one that gave her energy to keep going forward, he renewed her will to live, to live at her fullest no matter what. She wanted to play the violin just to play alongside him... her dream became true.
The biggest revelation was left for the end.

Kaori left the word being happy, because she got to meet her hero.

Now, I need to stop crying...

Wow. For Kaori, at least her struggle is finally over and she can rest easy knowing she changed the life of the person she admired for the better. Like a shooting star, she left our lives as abruptly as she came, leaving a violin shaped hole in our hearts.

Also, we were finally able to confirm what the lie was - I can't really say it was unexpected but I really hoped the lie was about her illness, however this is infintely better and makes more sense. I do want some closure on Watari though, we know his the type of character to bottle up his feelings and put on an act which is what I fear happened at the end. I think he truly loved Kaori and he might be secretly depressed about her passing.

Other than Watari, I feel Kaori was really able to enrich the lives of those around her and I'm glad she was able to achieve her dream and play with Kousei so early on in the show.

As for Kousei, unlike with his mothers death he knew how Kaori truly felt about him, allowing for him to move on and create music with "colour" that can reach her.
There was also quite a bit of focus on Tsubaki during the show and build up of her character complication. I'm not fan of how it was resolved by Tsubaki doing what she had always done and just be there for Kousei but I guess that's what he needs right now. I hope Tsubaki gets with Kousei, she deserves a W for all the anime childhood friends that developed a crush on the MC but were doomed to fail. IMO Tsubaki is (2nd) best girl (after Kaori who is out of the picture but lives on in our hearts forever ). I know Emi and Nagi are also likely (damn my boy Arima is a player) but Tsubaki was attracted to Kousei as a individual whereas the other girls were attracted to him by a musical connection. /end Tsubaki rant

This final episode was A+, the final performance was great and "The Letter" was just perfect. Props to A1 pictures, for a faithful adaptation with excellent animation and art.

I really hope they do some kind of short that tells us how things are for everyone a few years from now. Hell, theres lots of room for a Watari story - like YLIA, they could do a coming of age story for Watari wherein Kaori allowed him to rethink his womanizing ways and develop a new perspective on relationships. Also, the mangaka is familiar with sports-based stories.

Overrall this show did have its flaws - the addition of comedy wasn't a bad idea and made the first half of the show enjoyably light-hearted but it could have been incorporated far better. There were also other characters that could have been explored a bit more (Watari is one of the most supporting main characters I have ever seen).

However, this show completely baited me - like most people, I fell in love with Kaori and became an emotional mess in the end. For this reason, I can forgive the shows flaws and give it a 10/10 (might drop to a 9 after I dispell these feels, calm down, and look at the show in a more objective light).

Thank you Kaori, for showing us that a life as short as yours can be a full one. Great show that can potentially change your views on life itself.

"Maybe there’s only a dark road up ahead. But you still have to believe and keep going. Believe that the stars will light your path, even a little bit."

Umm i would give 7/10 but i will give 8 just for the animation that it really attracted me from the very beginning especially during the piano scenes..personally I believe that the end was so cliché like Aiza would say that it disnt touch me at all..the fact that she liked him and he was so oblivious or the fact that he knew she would die and he never expressed trurhfully his feelings made me pissed!the only good is that they didnt dramatised it a lot..and they only showed the grave senery and the letter as a hint of kaori's dead..im glad kousei didnt start crying and getting depressed and all that shit..btw kashiwagi never had a bf? Wtf? I really liked this girl throughout the show..she was the prettiest and most mature girl!..

The one thing that broke my heart was that she fought and had surgery, only not to make it.

Great show. However, the ending felt rushed. I wish there could be some scenes after the competition, after the surgery operation and how Arima and the rest of the cast reacted to it.

I think after seeing this anime i will start playing the piano again, i have such insane craving to play it after a couple of years without it.
It's the only instrument i can express my feelings (other than writing in a notebook or drawing).

This anime is special, those who think it was horrible or that its overrated, you have no brain, nor you need a brain, this anime is for viewers who want to watch, feel and sympathize.
Out of all the anime out there that focus on music and romance (+shonen), this is the best one you will ever find.

I give it 10/10, even 11/10 if it was possible, because this anime is directed to the heart, not a stupid ass critics brain analyzing whats good and bad, no one fucking cares whats good or bad, the story and the music was breathtaking, nothing more.

Just finished watching it in 2 days and I'm more confused and speechless than sad or anything.

The Story ist tragic, sad, still entertaining and kept me watching, but also kind of stupid if I think about it, afterwords.

Kaori death was that kind of stupid, or how they made it look, I cant even describe it.
Threw the final performance I just waited for the flatline tone, but it wasnt coming, could been just a too hard cut for the anime, but still better than that they made...
And a letter in which she explains everything made it even more "cliché"...

Well I guess I'm kind of drawn between a 9/10 up to the the final performance, and 6/10 after I finished.

Its still a good anime, but I just cant give it more than 7/10 and thats only because of the great soundtrack and animation, the end was way to simple in my opinion.

It's sad how the anime was getting more and more interesting when I got to the half part of the season.
It was a shitty ending. Yet I feel so sad and dissatisfied.
I wish they were able to express their feelings in person rather than in a letter.
Also that the half of the episode included Arima's concert, what the hell was that.
When he was finished I was like ''Now hurry to the hospital Arima! Start sprinting already!!'' But no, sudden time skip to the graveyard. ''NOOO FUUUCKKK SHE DIED!!''
I wish there would be a scene where they had their final moment together.

So much things that needed to be explained, stuff left unfinished... Damn it, it would haunt me for the rest of my life if it was me.

My heart is freaking heavy, yet I didn't shed a tear..

Anyway, it was a very good anime and regardless of the negative stuff, It was a good watch.

If they would have switched between the Arima's play and the surgery and at the end we could have seen the flat line in monitor of the surgery room, it would have had more impact imo.
Although i wasn't satisfied with last episode, i really like the whole anime overall, specially the music.
So ill give it 10/10

Maybe this anime wasn't for me. Everything felt forced. Unconvincing. It's annoying how everyone is obsessed over Arima. Art and sound are amazing tho. 6/10
