THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.
----------------------------------------
This reminded me a little bit of Natsume.

The OP song is nice and I think the story felt pretty straightforward.
I kinda like Inaba so far but man, the place he moved too is weird. Hope this show will develop his character as he seems rather plain so far. I find some of his reactions to the new change in his life to be amusing.

Animation is decent, nothing groundbreaking but I don't think it's bad either. It's an alright start so far imo. Akine seems like a cool girl.

This is a pleasant show to watch. Youkai and humans live together in an apartment and Inaba is thrown right into it.

I already really like the female exorcist, she's also a nice character to look at.

Inaba's backstory was well presented, nothing over the top.

There's nothing interesting at all in this episode. I understand this is a slice of life anime, so there's no story. But compare to other good slice of life animes, this is just bad.

The beginning of the show is nothing spectacular, it's pretty straight forward.
The character is sort of plain, I don't know if he will become come as the series goes on or what but I do hope that the series gets a little bit more interesting.

Cant help but agree. I just dont see myself watching this until the end cause this episode already put me to sleep.

I rather pass on it now that drop it out of boredom in 2-3 weeks.

Looking forward to this very much so. It's a slow-burning supernatural / slice of life series with a focus on character interactions.

This was a nice first episode. Inaba doesn't want to live with his uncle anymore and wanted to move into a dorm, but it burned down. He was surprised when he saw youkai in the apartment he's staying in. Akine is a nice character. Looking forward to see more.

The MC already looks (manly and) intimidating for an underage spirit-related story. Reminds me with Doumeki and Ashiya of Mononokean. >_<
I wonder if Eriko have Tsundere feeling for the MC. But for now, I guess he should focus with Akine since she might come in handy for dealing with some "naughty" resident.

The dormitory burned down. That's just bad luck.

Inaba didn't freak out when he first saw the ghosts.

The OP is nice.

Akine is very likable and Reimei provides comedy relief. Decent epd, I'll keep watching to see how the MC adapts to being around other spirits and exorcism.

The animation could be a bit better.

This feels to me like a kids show for some reason. Kinda reminds me of Yokai Watch a little. I think I'll give this one or two more episodes before I decide to drop it.

Pretty average opener but hopefully that's just character and setting introduction. Seems like it could be a relaxing yokai show like Natsume, although I doubt it will be as rich. No doubt, the fact that the MCs parents died will come into the story as some sort of plot point down the line. The OP and ED were both pretty bland.

The only thing impressive about this ep was the MC's goal, main girl being a human, and the fact that it isn't a harem.
Everything else is generic, including the art and non-existent animation. Has anime always been THIS bland in terms of the amount of movement, or is it just because of quantity > quality as of late?

I seriously hope that it turns out the dormitory getting burned down was caused by a youkai, leading to major conflict later in the anime.

I like that they were pretty faithful to the source material (I know it's been mentioned to be the novel for this adaption, but I feel like it's actually based on the manga instead?).
The voice cast is great too, but the music was honestly really surprising. I didn't expect it to sound as good as it did. Amplifying certain dramatic scenes like Inaba going through the house or at the park.
Visually they made it have a really 90s/early 00s anime feel which I think suits it, since it has some similarities to ghost based anime from then. I don't understand why Inaba looks different from his appearance in the manga though, the others look like they do there.

And for those wondering, this is mostly a slower paced supernatural slice of life story and don't expect too much from the mystery genre... I'm honestly not sure why it's even listed as being a mystery. It has a more character explorative narrative than an enigmatic mystery feeling. The mystery part comes into play slightly later.
The real focus is on the characters and how they either interact with each other or develop. Something similar to iyashikei (I don't know if Youkai Apartment counts as one though) series ala Flying Witch, Amanchu, Sweetness & Lightning and Yokohama Kaidashi Kikou.

The OP is really spoilery for having certain characters in it.

To be completely honest this one is okay... I guess. Nothing too ground breaking, however nothing too impressive either. I will give it a few more episodes to see where this goes and from there I'll decide what to do with it.

Not bad, I find myself enjoying learning more and more about Yokai the more I hear about them, so this should be interesting series. I keep finding myself enjoying these things more then others, and wonder how much of it is the critic situation. I'm still new to watching alot of anime, so everything is new to me, while people that watch anime for years alot of this stuff is cliche heh.

Finally. A good anime this season. Very rarely is an anime about human and youkai relationships bad. These type of shows are always right up my alley. Also helps that there's a cute girl voiced by Miyuki Sawashiro.

That cheap rent and you only have to worry about youkai? I'd live there, personally.

I only got this show fun as I learned some interesting things. The art isnt so much energetic (but better than SR) as reminds me of Trickster (same studio - Shin-Ei Animation, but I can see some improvement from last time).
I am hoping this show will be fun as LN is finished and we will have proper ending. And also so far characterization were engaging. Yeah expecting episodic show and hope that there will not be a drop in quality.

Too bad, currently Mal rating is severely dissapointing. This should been 7.1-7.4 rating show. But at least I ensured myself at least one relaxing anime for this season. Somehow expecting 24 episode!

Saw this was coming out and had a manga, decided to give it a read. Gotta say it really didn't do much for me, and I find slice of life comfy as hell.
Most of the arcs are more about human emotions (fair enough) than the supernatural but I just felt it seemed forced or annoying a lot.

Enjoyable first episode. OP & ED song are decent. Art is not bad as well.

The business school burning down is just bad luck. The Youkai apartment looks cool & weird. Yuushi doesn't seem to care too much.

Another supporting role for Sawashiro, Miyuki. Akine is an Exorcist & sounds great. The voice cast for this show is great. Lot of familiar names.

Looking forward to seeing more.

Even though there wasn't much happening, I really enjoyed the first episode. The characters were likable so far and there's nothing overly dramatic about the show. It's got a nice art style too as I like the grown-up looks the characters have. Hopefully it stays entertaining like this.

Well, what can I expect from it?
It doesn't appear as though it'll have the tone or any of the emotions of Natsume's Book of Friends.
I've watched plenty of anime's 1st eps and could tell what the main selling point is supposed to be.
Fate/Apocrypha a giant-ass magic war.
Knights' & Magic is generic mecha + generic fantasy.
Youkai Apartment's main selling point is...what, really? What reason is there to truly continue watching this anime?

Well that was a surprise when they said they just graduated from middle school but already looked old enough to be university students. (At least for anime looks and your usual char design.) Liked that they don't look too young.

Nice main char and the other chars/Youkai are interesting so far. (There seem to be a lot in the opening/ending.)

I'll continue to watch this. Might be a nice SoL without the usual annoying "cute girls doing nothing" shit but with a nice male lead and other interesting side characters (Youkai).

Yeah score seems a bit low. I had expected that people liked this kind of show and it would be between 7.8 and 8.2. Considering that for example Knight's & Magic (which might get generic later) is even higher than 7.0 where I'd expect less (even though I liked it community usually likes such stuff less they only like the well-known fantasy where the source was super popular).
