hahaha that's brilliant :') The sad part is that it's actually gonna happen...

ikr, and then the poor child has to wait 18 years before he/she can change names to something more sensible...

There is only one name that's good enough for my imaginary son and that is... Kamina.

Nobody would mess with him. Ever.

I would probably give them a more normal name to be honest. Like I really like the name Jolyne for a girl. But for a boy, I don't really know.

Joseph and Jonathan are good names for a boy, at least if you are from and English speaking country.

You can kind of get away with that name, but if your kid was named Naruto or Sasuke it would be a disaster

lol I would probably say hell to the fucking no. The only way I would is if the name itself was unique and had some sort of meaning.

You don't want to be named after someone from a show...I was named after someone from a show.

Although my name is fairly common so it's not as big of an issue, it's just kind of weird and made me feel like my mom didn't put much thought to that name. And when the series was done she ended up hating the character she named me after lmao

Sure, as long as it doesn't sound too unusual.

If it's a girl, I'll just pick a name from Claymore.

If it's a boy....Guts...it has to be Guts...

Do you realise that they'd bully your son to no end if you gave him a stupid name like that? Especially in a western environment?

Well some anime characters have normal Japanese name like: Sakura etc.
So maybe it depends on the last name lol, if it will fit well. If not then I will give them a normal name.

The name of my pets are from anime characters though haha.

Depends on the name. Me, being caucasian probably won't give my child some super Japanese name. I'd decide based on the sound of the name itself so if a name just sounds good I'd give it to my child anime or not

Only if it's a common name that's not going to get them made fun of. Edward isn't specifically from FMA, but you could name your kid Edward because you like the character or something. I really really don't want kids but I have thought Kamina is a pretty awesome name. Still, I probably wouldn't do that to them, even though it's not that abnormal sounding.

I would, but then, I'm also half-Japanese, so no one would think twice about it (even though I don't look it). To be honest, both of my children have Asian names, and no, they don't look Asian either. My daughter's name is Noelani Ki (Hawaiian) and my son's name is Robert Teruji.

After watching Code Geass I started calling my daughter Nunnally for a while, since they sound similar and my daughter said she really liked the name too. I still call her such from time to time and she never bats an eye and responds right away to it.

If I were to have another child (which I can't do) then I wouldn't hesitate to name that child after an anime character. The problem would be which one! I absolutely adore the name Shinji and I regret not naming my son that when I had the chance. A girl's name would be a lot harder to chose!

There's nothing wrong with Japanese names, but for someone like me who lives in the US and is of European descent, naming my (theoretical) children Japanese names would probably seem odd. My aunt's husband is half-Japanese, and even his name is just Mike.

No, because no one would pronounce it in the proper Japanese way. Japanese names (or basically any foreign name) always sound much nicer when pronounced properly, and not with an accent from the English languages (American, British or Australian; they all sound terrible when saying foreign names).

That's very true. To this day no one can get my name right. My last name is Sakai and I am called every name in the book. It's amazing how often people add, take away, or completely change the letters in your name. I think I've been call just about everything that starts with the letter S. It's actually quite annoying since it's so easy to me. What annoys me most is when I correct them, and they continue to get it wrong. I'm just like "Really? Come on. It can't be that damn hard to say."

People often have a hard time with my daughter's name as well. While I think Noelani is a very easy name to pronounce, just today, when picking her up from school the lady at the desk called her Naomi. I looked at her like she was an idiot and corrected her, but as I was told after, I can't expect everyone to think it to be an easy name to say just because it's easy for me. For this reason I just tell people to call her Nonnie. Surprisingly, people have a hard time with that nickname as well...When that happens, I just want to give up on people.

Just shaking my head at your comment right now, haha. I think people get it wrong ironically because they don't want to sound strange by saying a word that sounds 'unusual' to them. If the situation arose where they had said a word in an accent they don't usually use that sounds strange to them, and they had gotten it completely wrong, it would be embarrassing. But ultimately, they look a lot worse when they try to keep the pronunciation of the names rigidly inside the accent they're comfortable with.

That makes sense. I've never thought about that before. In all my 29 years, only one person has ever gotten it right on the first try. When I mentioned that to the person, he shrugged and said 'ah, well, I watch a lot of anime.' I laughed my ass off for days. I always just assumed people simply couldn't pronounce it, never considered the whole accent thing. I'll keep this in mind the name time I want to get sarcastic with someone over this issue!

My last name is only 5 letters long as well, but it's Prussian (what is now part of Germany) and it's mispronounced all the time here in the US! As with you, people add or drop letters from it, and it's like, "it's 5 letters! It's not that hard!" lol

Though I would never give my child some wacky otherworldly name like 'Accelerator', 'Last Order' or 'MISAKA 19090'.

I would pick a name that would both be interesting and be of ease during the years of youth of my child. My family name has resulted in me being nicknamed after an instant messenger for the entirety of elementary school.

With Japanese having multiple readings and meaning for kanji I'd have to be super careful with my choice, otherwise I might have a son called "Rice Master" or something.
