I'm re-watching Mushishi and I was dreading this episode.

I'm pretty much fine with everything, just not creepy babies, it was a naive mistake to entrust the parents with killing the Mushi.

I wondered a lot how can the mother love such beings, but then I remembered, we only saw their unusual behaviors in the episode, we didn't see the moments where they acted like normal children, but still she's crazy, and her husband's reactions were priceless.

I nearly did actually. I was like "WTF NOO" for a split second, then I realized it was ep 21 and I calmed down lol.

Commenting halfway through the episode to point out that when Ginko woke up after being stabbed, he still had a cigarette in his mouth

-_- and laughs were had.

Ginko, smoking even after passing out.

Nice episode, but I will never understand the delusional people we see in some episodes.

Wonderful episode as usually. So I am assuming the mushishi child is Ginko's campanion now? either way one of the creepier episodes, and when Ginko got stabbed I was actually quite shocked.

For the first time, I'm not sure what Ginko did was right or wrong.
My logic says that he did the right thing, the thing that would at some point make the family happy again or at least not make it more painful for them.
On the other hand it was ethically wrong to "steal" their baby and lie to them, even though it was the best thing for them.
I like it, sometimes people don't know what is best for them and therefore you must lie to them, so that they may live happy...

Welp, horror's always just right around the corner. Are we gonna be expecting a talking liquid face now for the rest of the series? Could be pretty sweet.

That was some strange Mushi, quite something to eat up the child while the woman is pregnant to than gain strength to be born it self :p

That lady had to have some pretty strong motherly instincts to want to raise a green pile of goo that came out of her. I would be horrified! Creepy, but cool episode.

Holy shish, that was effin' tragic. A mushi that kills an unborn baby and then makes copies of that baby to gather food for itself? And if threatened, it will try to play with your emotions and burn your house down? JESUS.

This one of my favorites episodes so far because of how disturbing it is.

The best episode so far definitely. Very powerful. Just when I thought this show couldn't get anymore interesting! I hope he keeps the thing as a companion. Would be cool. Ginko seems to be lonely going all over the place by himself. And the thing seems intelligent too. Amazing mushi.

This was both parts powerful and disturbing. Having to let go and accept your child's death, even when they are a mushi, is the hardest task for a parent to ever have to do. On top of that, what a truly terrifying mushi. Most of the mushi in the series have not left me with an actual sense of discomfort or fear about them, but this one sure did.

Great ep, very well made.

You shouldn't restrict yourself if you're not satisfied with it. All though you must have completed this series already.
----
Mushi have the best ways of fooling another animal by illusionative beauty in order to make the ones associated with it not eager to kill it or even leach of them.
This disturbing Mushi made for another great ep.. Wonder what Ginko will do with them now.
edit -Also another lie by Ginko has been seen. All though it makes me kinda sad if I'lld think the mother would just be waiting all her life for it to waken up if she wouldn't be able to forget.. 5/5

Wow what a strange episode XD in a good way though. Poor Ginko getting stabbed. I like the conversation Ginko had with the mushi child:

Mushi: It's not our fault.
Ginko: It's not ours either. But we're stronger.

Ah, the ultimate truth.

Watahiko goo creeped me out a little at the end...it was a goo, but it had a face and a mouth that moved and spoke. I laughed though because Ginko was just nonchalantly talking to it.

wow this episode was just one big depressing story. Not one ounce of happy. I feel bad for this husband and wife. I know its not the mushi fault here but still is hard not to hate them when some do something this bad to people.

Another great story as usual, but this episode is definitely the freakiest one of the series. Very tragic, but also horrifyingly creepy.

I thought the pyromaniac pod children were the most disturbing thing I've seen so far in Mushishi, right up until the talking-goo-head-in-a-jar.

Very weird episode, loved it! Episodes are definitely getting stranger.

Is it just me, or is Ginko being a little too kind this episode? These mushi are abnormal, do not fit in with humans or animals, and are potentially more powerful than humans... Does this not mean world takeover by this kind of mushi - imagine how powerful it could be if there were loads of them everywhere!

However, it is very interesting because they are clever and still learning about humans - maybe they will become a good ally of Ginko somehow! It makes me want Ginko to get a student sometime soon!

Also, I think Ginko seemed a little scary at the start: "he must die." Wasn't it his provocation that caused them to go crazy and learn fear, and seek survival desperately. It was also his scroll that caused them to burn the house and all the possessions of the poor couple down, in addition to making them mentally scarred forever. Why did Ginko trust them to kill their own children anyway? (It was their children in their eyes).

However, if the spores would leave the first child's body, then what would happen i wonder... Maybe everyone in the village will turn into one of them? It's dangerous that Ginko did something none of the previous mushishi have done in the past.

Man what an episode, so bizarre and a greater element of danger this time around. So many of these episodes are so sad and depressing. I find it interesting how last episode the focus was on not killing mushi, and this time it was all about killing mushi. I really loved the ending though -

"Why haven't you killed me?"
"Because you're still alive."

This may be the best episode ever. The conflict of ending the mushi's life vs. keeping the mushi alive was done well here. The mother still regards them as her children even though she knows that they are dangerous lifeforms that could cause harm to her. It doesn't surprise me that she wants to keep them alive as most caring parents love their children no matter how unusual they are. With that said, I lost some sympathy for her when she stabbed Ginko.

man he has the bring the harsh words sometimes.

hes a bit of a troll stealing their 'children' from them and lying to them about it, but its for the best, as i think the wife was goin kinda nuts with the stabbing of Ginko n that
"Urushibara Ruka. The mannerisms and voice of a woman... No... More feminine than any woman. But he's a guy. Taller than Mayuri, but so very thin... But he's a guy. Looks great in a miko outfit... But he's a guy. It's already twilight And yet, it's so hot. The cicadas are crying. But... He's a guy."

Gave birth to a slime. Found identical kids under the floor boards. Was told the mushi killed their real kid-to-be. Still raised the thing happily. Stabs Ginko even after knowing the truth. That's not motherly instinct, that's certified nutcase.
