If not too much also one or two of these: Action, Thriller and Supernatural or Super Power

The series has an overall comedic tone but mixed in with very dramatic scenes, so comedy, thriller would make more sense, the psychological genre would differentiate it from typical comedies. And I don't think super power really applies because it's less of a power of going back after death and more of punishment.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Add these genres to the following anime (bumped from last thread)

http://myanimelist.net/anime/32438/Mayoiga

Psychological (every character has some conflict in their backstory to make them come and main monster is based on their mind's interpretation

http://myanimelist.net/anime/31430/Terra_Formars_Revenge
http://myanimelist.net/anime/22687/Terra_Formars

Seinen, Drama (published in Young Jump which is seinen and conflicts are constantly tense)

http://myanimelist.net/anime/28621/Subete_ga_F_ni_Naru__The_Perfect_Insider

Sci-Fi (focuses on several A.I. being made off of Magata and how the program works)

http://myanimelist.net/anime/9260/Kizumonogatari_Part_1__Tekketsu-hen
http://myanimelist.net/anime/31757/Kizumonogatari_Part_2__Nekketsu-hen
http://myanimelist.net/anime/31758/Kizumonogatari_Part_3__Reiketsu-hen

Change titles to Kizumonogatari I: Tekketsu-hen, Kizumonogatari II: Nekketsu-hen, and Kizumonogatari III: Reiketsu-hen respectively.

All Japanese sources I've found use 「傷物語〈Ⅰ鉄血篇〉」as the official title rather than including the 第一部 (Dai-ichi-bu) part that MAL uses, even the official posters don't use it, thus it is invalid.

It's probably going to get rejected unless I clarify on it, so bringing this here. For Cowboy Bebop's Background, there's this piece.
It wasn't a ratings hit in Japan
I don't know what the show's TV ratings were (or if that data was ever put out there, leaked TV ratings beyond the top ones used to be put out there regularly years ago, then that data dried up), but I do know that the show was a hit on home video, which easily breaks the long-believed myth that Cowboy Bebop bombed in Japan.

I feel like this should be noted somewhere, and that "wasn't a ratings hit" shouldn't really be put in there. Also, it was Bandai Entertainment's most successful anime series as shown at the bottom of this interview. I feel like that should be noted somewhere.

Noir is even [in]famous for it's absolutely censored out blood (heard it's even got some kind of reward for it, too lazy to check), sometimes just straight ridiculous, but I guess ratings stay here in both cases because of theme: professional killers that not only leading characters but also pictured in sympathetic way, i.e. = heroes (in both meanings).

Madlax was licensed by ADV and the official age rating is 14+.
Noir was licensed by FUNimation and also has an official age rating of 14.
MAL rounds down to 13 for TV-14 those so the rating should change since an official one exists.

Thanks for clearing it out. I think it should be pointed officially somewhere in Guidelines/Rules/FAQ, since I remember there been one discussion where we've argued about ratings but no one got up that argument you provided.

I edited the background a pretty long while back to mention that it sold very well, but was denied apparently. Anime background moderators take a ridiculously long time to update them for whatever reason, yet manga backgrounds never take nearly as long, I don't know why it's like this. All the current background does is continue the popular myth that Japan didn't like Cowboy Bebop because it was too western, despite being completely false.

Seriously? Well that's disappointing to hear. Wonder if my requested Background edits for Trigun mentioning SOME of the US releases had all the openings (Remix singles, LE tins, Anime Classics release) and Victor Entertainment put out the Japanese release (Geneon Japan had nothing to do with the show there), Date A Live and Date A Live II mentioning the Directors Cuts (I doubt that many fans know they even exist), as well as more info on Escaflowne's release history (that 2002 box set wasn't the first and only DVD release), sales for Bandai Entertainment, and the Directors Cut (not that many are aware of this either, and future fans won't know how the Bandai dub is different as FUNi is making that dub a CE-exclusive) will go through.

Sales and licensing information aren't always notable—licensors are on the left, and sales lose relevance over time. We tend to handle them on a case-by-case basis.

Hi. I'm a bit confused about something:
I've just watched Digimon: The Movie, (duration: 1h 25min) a 2000's American film adaptation of the first three(actually four) Japanese Digimon films distributed by 20th Century Fox.
Yet this movie isn't in the database, only the original three movies; links:
http://myanimelist.net/anime/2961/Digimon_Adventure_Movie -(20min)
http://myanimelist.net/anime/2397/Digimon_Adventure__Bokura_no_War_Game -(40min)
http://myanimelist.net/anime/2962/Digimon_Adventure_02_Movie -(2x32min)

The confusion is even greater as English synonym for all three films is the same Digimon: The Movie. So, I can't label all three (four) of them as completed when I only saw dubbed american version-which is also copyrighted 1999-2000 TOEI ANIMATION so it's not an american 'product' if that's the problem.

While I don't wan't to watch originals (I don't like the franchise at all) as I would score them poorly, I was advised to see this anime movie as it's quite unique with good humor and great music (Fatboy Slim, Less than Jake, Len, Barenaked Ladies etc). And it is,so much in fact that it deserves a reasonably good score (in my opinion) - but it's impossible to grade it as it's not in MAL database.

The total confusion is even more obvious on forums where one group criticize the film(s) and are giving it low,bad grades (mostly they are talking about correct Japanese entry-links are above) while the other group on the same forum praise the (american) film and how good it is not knowing they are talking about completely different anime (which is even not listed in database).
Something must be done about this as quite a few fans here have been misled and had left their grade under/for wrong anime!

I hope my writing isn't too confusing as well and that you understand what I'm talking about! :)
Thanks, take care,
jaka

Looking at AniDB and yep, there's a gap between episodes 36 and 37. Though the entry won't be split, older split-cour shows stay as one entry no matter how much people feel they should get split (especially in the case of say The Big O).
AnimeDBGuidelines said:
Section II: Anime Types

The first release of an anime is the most important one, as long as the majority of it was released that way. For example, if only the first episode was pre-aired online and the rest is released on TV, that would make the entry a TV series and not an ONA.

Furthermore:
a. TV
If a TV series is split into two parts and at least one season (~12 weeks) falls between the last episode of the first part and the first episode of the second part, the second part will be treated as a second season and the anime will have two entries.

Note: This is to organize currently airing series that have large gaps between seasons so entries are not left as currently airing for months on users' lists (e.g. White Album, Asura Cryin). Thus, if a similar gap occurred with a series that has already finished airing, that entry will not be split now (e.g. Cardcaptor Sakura, Big O).

If there is no gap between seasons, but the continuation of the series is indicated as a separate season with a new title, it will get a second entry. (e.g. Shugo Chara, Shikabane Hime)

Except it was successful when it first came out, 19k in the first release run is certainly above average if you looked at the sales of other series at the time, it surpassed Gundam Wing which is a massively successful franchise.

But popularity doesn't equate to ratings.

Besides, where's even a source that it had low ratings? The reason the original broadcast was cancelled was because it was too violent to air more than half of the episodes, and if it was rebroadcast later surely this means there was enough interest for people to want to watch the series in its entirety.

I just watched the Body Swap OAV (part of some OAV collection): http://myanimelist.net/anime.php?id=4149

It is only labelled as ecchi and yuri while it contains over 10minutes of overly explicit sexual content. Of course, no intimate body part is unveiled but it shows you sexual intercourses (same sex and different sexes, one or more partners) nonetheless when another animation of the same "series" doesn't go to this extent.

There must be mentioned that DearS Special (http://myanimelist.net/anime/1817/DearS_Special) has been originally made (and numbered) as Episode 10 (there is even preview for the next episode at the end) because of very common misunderstanding. Wikipedia (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DearS#Anime) lists DearS as
thirteen episode
anime, and half of the comments in Episode 10 Discussion topic are actually for Special. Today many users watch anime online on (illegal) streaming sites, and I've already seen cases when Special has been put as Episode 10 (not as 13th, as it's usually done).
And preferably it must be done not in "More info" section which is very rarely (if ever) been explored by users, like it has been already countless times proven in past Anime DB Modification Requests topic.

Submitted actual synopsis for this one because current is just copied from main series and not applicable here. I've tried to make it entertaining, not just descriptive, so it's short - no need to establish the setting (it's already been done in main entry), no need to list the characters (there is corresponding section for this) and there mustn't be too much information (=spoilers).
Add genres: Mystery (anything other would be a spoiler).

Soo... Haikyuu!!: Lev Genzan! and Haikyuu!!: vs. Akaten have just been combined into Haikyuu!! OVA. Are those even OVAs? They have been released at a Jump Festa first, so shouldn't they qualify as specials and consequently not be combined?
Moreover, is there any difference to other Jump Festa special which were released on BD later? Due to consistency, shouldn't all Gintama, Naruto and Bleach entries which aired at Jump Festa be combined as well? Please don't.

So there's something interesting here. The episode videos go up to 26, but the series is split into two seasons. Perhaps another reason why we should have episode videos on the entry page start at episode 1 instead of the last/most recent one...

Remove Historical genre. It's not like it deals with a historical event just because it's old. It might be a historical part of the medium but that shouldn't be reflected in its genres.
Now, there really isn't a genre that does fit... can we just have an anime without a genre or is this not possible?

0K, I've got a question:
Why is Ranma ½ and Ranma ½ Nettouhen, i.e. two different seasons, are merged into one entry? We don't go by Western releases, aren't we?

Baleeted, thanks, @valoon, leaving it here pure for historical reasons. 0h, and the answer is here, I was stupid and didn't check the corresponding forum.

http://myanimelist.net/anime/1011/Ranma_%C2%BD_Super
http://myanimelist.net/anime/5493/Ranma_%C2%BD__Akumu_Shunmin_Kou
Wrong relations, Super is prequel (both in time of release and story - volumes 27, 29 & 31) and Akumu! Shunmin Kou is sequel (again, both in time and story - volume 34), submitted right relations (in Akumu! Shunmin Kou there is another mistake - showing 3rd Movie as a prequel).

Should be OVA after all.
Official channel only has 2 CMs for DVD:

not the actual episodes.

Main title should be changed to "Aikatsu! Idol Katsudou!" because that's how the Jap. title properly romanized.
Change it for all related entries, too.

The episode count for this OVA need to be changed to 2 episodes. There's an ending song in the middle with credits, and then the next episode begins (which also has its own OP and ED songs).
AniDB has it as 2 episodes: https://anidb.net/a11551

You're kidding? Ranma 1/2 entry without "Martial Arts" genre? Please, fix it, it's ridiculous. It's Ranma 1/2, it's all about living in dojo & martial arts, there are fights & acrobatic tricks in every episode, even if just a little.

http://myanimelist.net/anime/1008/Ranma_%C2%BD_Specials
Add genre: Drama.
Also I'm questioning the "Adventure" genre here. Yes, they're visiting a new place, but it's more about exploring themselves (hence "Drama") then landscape around.
Not sure what to do with giant animals here. I've left it as is (it's "Ranma", we're not explaining weird shit here), but then
appears, which definitely calls to... and here I'm lost. Is it "Fantasy"? 0r "Magic"? Both genres fit a bit but simultaneously a bit wrong.

This entry, the title 'Xie Mo Ren' should be 'Jie Mo Ren'
http://myanimelist.net/anime/33309/Xie_Mo_Ren

I might have caused this particular misunderstanding with the title since I included it as an alternate title on my video. However, since the Chinese title of the show is 戒魔人, the correct way to write that in English would be 'Jie Mo Ren'.

Additional Info: 'Xie Mo Ren' comes from the alternative title of the work, 血魔人, which was used as the original title of the manhua this show is adapted from until it was changed to 戒魔人 in Chapter 72. While I was the one who wrote 'Xie Mo Ren' in the first place, it was brought to my attention that even that might be wrong. Yes, 血 is read at 'Xie', but the more correct reading might actually be the alternate reading 'Xue'. So the proper reading for the alternate title is actually 'Xue Mo Ren'

tl;dr - The title should be 'Jie Mo Ren', I apologize for any confusion.

Add genres: Martial Arts (there is still a lot of this with practically everyone in the cast being martial artist), Supernatural (look at the synopsis, each of three episodes build around supernatural creatures).

Are you fucking kidding me? Somebody changed the titles to Kyou no Go no 2, which is completely different to what I requested. It's Kyou no 5 no 2 and there is absolutely no fucking excuse for this. Not to mention that they also completely ignored me with the Takarabako special and didn't add (TV).

Whoever changed these is just fucking around and has no idea what they're doing. This is the second time I've had something like this happen. The first time was with Buzzer Beater 2nd Season. Originally it was Buzzer Beater (2007) but was changed to Buzzer Beater Dai 2-ki, despite my post. I'm not saying it's the same mod who changed these, but.... it's probably the same mod and they're not doing their job properly.

EDIT: Whoops, I missed one:
http://myanimelist.net/anime/4078/Kyou_no_Go_no_Ni_Kagai_Jugyou__Mizukake
Kyou no 5 no 2 Kagai Jugyou: Mizukake

This means that whoever's changing these titles is definitely going off my post since this one was left completely untouched.

Naming inconsistencies this within series:
"Shi Wan Ge Leng Xiaohua Di Yii Ji"
"Shi Wan Ge Leng Xiaohua Di Er Ji"
"Shi Wan Ge Leng Xiaohua Di 3 Ji"

Furthermore, 第一季 in the title just means First Season and 第二季 just means Second Season. This is commonly used for other shows as well. Since Japanese anime had their 期 written as 'season' in the cases of Yami Shibai and Teekyuu, shouldn't this be the same case?

Old official link not working, guess we can change it to http://www.s-cry-ed.net (or http://www.s-cry-ed.net/tv/index.html).
Change title to s.CRY.ed (see link above or https://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E3%82%B9%E3%82%AF%E3%83%A9%E3%82%A4%E3%83%89), it's official Japanese romanization.
Remove genres: Shounen, it's original.
Add genres: Drama, there is a lot of this with deaths, betrayals & uneasy alliances.
Not sure to add: Mecha (Biff appears in several episodes and plays prominent role, but Emergy appears only in couple of eps. though he's the star of said episodes), Police (basically all plot revolves around HOLY which is police organization - suits, special vehicles, regular patrols, rank system - but with super-powered humans and designated only to one specific place).
