GosuGian said: lot's of plot hole +1 for Art style My exact sentiments. The ending was slightly contrived, but it was a decent wrap up. I wish they had focused much more on the wonderful world they built with Shioshishio and the other sea-villages they slightly mentioned. Enjoyed the first half of the series more but the second half definitely had it's moments (Hikari and Kaname returning from hibernation namely.) I mainly had a hard time wrapping my head around all the feeling based mythology. 8.5/10, would be less if not for the setting. |

Really loved the series, but the ending could've been better. I'd give the show 8/10 (9/10 if it had a better ending). |

this was a really beautiful ending, i cried like a little bitch when everyone reunited together :*) chii-chan and tsumugu seem to be the only official couple, i don't think anything between manaka and hikari has happened, which tbh is fine with me because miuna x hikari ftw!! i really wouldn't mind seeing akira with manaka in the future when they're both adults overall 10/10, loved this series so much!! |

I finished this anime a few months ago! And haven't forgotten it since! All the sad scenes ! And who ended up with who still really bugs me !! Would have loved this much more if hikari ended up with chisaki! Was mentally frustrated for weeks after watching this anime! Pretty annoyed about it still! Would be good if they redid it the way I wanted it to go π Still an amazing anime and I want to find one just like it!! |

The Ships have finally reached their True Destinations and they will live their lives happily forever ~ . HikarixManaka , TsumuguxChisaki , KanamexSaya . "Everyone was born from the Sea." Its plausible ~ .. for me :D Unchanging or Changing , Such a wonderful tale <3 ~ . PERFECT EPISODE ~ . "Love from the Sea ." "All must come to an end ." Paradise ~ . Nagi no Asukara is a great title for an undoubtedly beautiful Anime . Indeed , Soundtrack , Animation and Story were all astounding . A one-of-a-kind melodrama that have prove its worth in every episode and scenery . What I have found interest is the plot which induced me to an incredible expedition of landscapes and the relations that shook my core many times . The Sea and the Surface , Misunderstandings and Reconciliations . These moments will be the connections of us . Applaud <3 . 10/10 . I love them all ~ . |

OK, I now realize why people really like this so much. The artwork and the music, (both the musical score as well as the OP/ED) are absolutely beautiful until the very end of the show. I really liked the subtle changes to the OP as the 2nd season progressed along. It's been awhile since I actually got some feels from a series, but yeah, this one did it for me. It's that nagging and emotional tug-of-war that I want to beat the crap out of Okada for throughout this story. It drove me absolutely crazy through a lot of the series, but then as the tone shifts and things progress it becomes a much more emotionally mature story both in tone and with the characters. The theme comparisons with Clannad After Story are unmistakable towards the end, but again, it fits the story perfectly as things move along and we learnt more about the Sea God's story. The ending. Yeshaving Hikari x Manaka was awesome. Chisaki was happy (poor Muina at least that boy still likes her) and there is some hope for a Kanama x Saya ship as well (which I fully support) because unlike the others Kaname was almost always pretty much straight forward about his feelings and that scene I mean, probably my favorite scene in the show was in regards to the non-canon ship that got really good development, In retrospect, it was actually better development that the main ship, because there was an actually confession and acknowledgement in the end. I absolutely loved that scene... Ok, I'm done now. This anime takes awhile to truck through with a ton of peeks and valley's throughout. However, if you are able to look past some of the "angsty" teanage drama, there is a pretty good story to tell and can really give you the feels... I think I have recovered an hour or so later, but man, that ending was beautiful (maybe more so because my ship won the battle) and really gives you an emotional ride there! I need a smoke now.. Excellent, excellent, excellent |

ooo333 said: Sugram22 said: y123y said: This was a great series. But for more, it had two flaws: 1- Sayu and Kaname. There were so few scenes between Kaname and Sayu post time skip that it was difficult to see the romance between them. Even now, Sayu just looks like a pity trophy for Kaname so he wouldnt end up alone since he was the character who went through the most suffering in the anime. (episode 13 FYI) Sayu Kaname's pity trophy? i think ur bit wrong here, Kaname always thought that no1 is W8 for him & so on & on, he say'd it himself, so Sayu words touched him so deeply that he decided to give it a chance, give her a chance, he did not promise her anything, her words made him see how pretty she is inside & i also think that made him fall far her even if its just 1%, so its not about Pity I know I'm replying to a comment that's almost two years old, but what the heck. What do I mean by pity trophy for Kaname? Well, first we have to look at the character of Sayu. Sayu was like 9-10 when she developed a little crush on Kaname around episode 10. She had only known him for a couple of weeks. After the 5 year timeskip, she was 15 I think. And now at 15, without having seen him for 5 years and barely spending time together, she is still in love with him? And not only that, but Kaname and Sayu didnt have any significant scenes together pre-timeskip. It was just her blushing for a couple of scenes and thats it. I mean, at least Hikari and Miuna had some significant scenes together pre-timeskip and they had become family. When I saw that Sayu still had a crush on Kaname post-timeskip, I knew that was the writers telling us that Kaname and Chisaki will never happen. Sayu was just there so Kaname would not be alone, just like that classmate who was crushing on Miuna was there so Miuna in the end would not be alone. that's how love sometime is. & who knows what happened behind the scene, the part writers didn't explained, left out for our imagination? :D, its often with animes & no animated series, that a lot happens at the time that isn't shown to... |

7/10. I really did enjoy this anime, but I definitely rolled my eyes more than a few times. I've never seen characters run (literally) after every uncomfortable encounter so damn much. Jfc. It was pretty good though. Gave me those feels. The art and soundtrack was amazing. |

At the beginning,I honestly didn't expect this anime to make me fall in love.My only complain is that it had been focused way too much on Manaka's character.I'm not saying that she didn't deserved to be developed to the max,but I just wished more characters to stand out... Anyway, that being said,I must return to my favorite part, the ships.Well,I'm more than grateful that they raised Chisaki and Tsumugu's relationship to that level...I never saw it coming,it hit me like a rock;a really soft rock,I must say. I would've really liked a second season or at least some OVA's so that Kaname and Sayu could start their dating. But besides that, the story was pretty much over,I have to admit it,even if it's troublesome. Then again,I think Hikari should've valued Miuna more than he already did, because that lil' girl did everything in her power to make him happy, regardless of her well-being. So now I guess,I just need to sob and get over myself...'cause it really is over...It was stunning;the adaptation, sountracks, crew, visual effects,sketch...yeah,no,really,all that is linked to this anime is just perfect. This is the word that describes this anime best.PERFECT. |

I finished watching Nagi no Asukara last night, and all I can say is: what a wonderful anime! The ending, however, was not as good as I had expected. Of course, it was happy, emotional and the like, but since I got so damn attached to the characters I needed some closure... I'm truly happy about Kaname ending up with Sayu, and even when I didn't love Tsumugu, I don't hate him either, and I sort of like that he's seemingly going to end up with Chisaki. Still, man, as episodes went by, Miuna began to become my favorite character, or at least one of them, and of course I wanted her to end up as a happy couple with Hikari. The fact that the actual couple is probably going to be Hikari x Manaka kind of broke my heart! Not for Manaka, I liked her as well; I simply loved Miuna! But oh well, it's still a 10 imo. Loved the visuals and ost. I'll miss this one. |

Thess said: yaHzee said: I'm pretty confused on the message that this show is trying to deliver. The first episode where Tsumugu pulls Manaka out of the water, I don't get the point of it now. Is the show trying to say that nothing is set in stone? If so... okay...? Still don't get what that has to do with the Sea God not realizing the feelings that the maiden had for him. Everything is just so clouded now. I also agree that they kinda just threw Sayu with Kaname so that he wasn't alone. But overall it was an enjoyable series, still seriously confused by the whole point of Tsumugu pulling up Manaka and all that chemistry stuff they had. The whole scene where Tsumugu and Manaka were on the boat explaining about the sun and the sea was just such a cop out to be honest. It's like they decided to make this dramatic scene between the two in the first episode, then they decided that they shouldn't get together so they come up with the "you're the sun, but... I like the sea better because it made me appreciate the sun" da fuk? The point was that Hikari was an idiot like the seagod who jumped into the wrong conclusions without communicating. Everyone handwaved Tsumugu's feelings and assumed Manaka's crush was real love. It was a mirror to what happened with the sea god and the ojoshi-sama. Ask and don't assume: talk about it. I'm sure that for Hikari it seemed like a fateful meeting, for Tsumugu it was probably Tuesday. Hikari wasn't the only idiot in this. This misunderstanding was spread to Chisaki who held back her feelings for Tsumugu and hurt herself because she wrongly thought she was usurping Manaka's love while she was sleeping. Sayu and Kaname are not yet a couple, the possibility is open now he's noticing. He just wanted to belong somewhere, he felt discarded by everyone. He knew Tsumugu and Chisaki were going to hook up. Re-watch the first half and you'll see his expression and concern over Tsumugu as rival and not over Hikari (he never took Hikari as a real rival). Chisaki's story is one of change, because she was the character who was afraid of changing to the point it was toxic. She was using her group of friends as crutch and while she holds them dear, she has no contact with them in the epilogue visually, because she's signifying her moving on to other places. Only Tsumugu could have been her love interest. Hikari and Kaname were part of the group. Hikari in particular, a symbol of her childhood. Manaka's story is the opposite. She used the surface as escapism (like Chisaki used Hikari) for her childish longings, that's what Tsumugu represented for her, in a romantic aspect. A crush. Hikari was the one she loved. Change and unchanging are not bad or good but what matters is how you feel and how it affects each character and each character has a different facet explored. Dragging out this old quote for the current viewers who seem to be unable to grasp what this show was trying to portray/tell us. Stop complaining about ships and hating on tsumugu, good gawd. |

And there goes the show with millions of love triangles (or was it squares?!), lots of running, tears and even more blushes. I have really mixed feelings about this show. First of all, I was really really torn between an 8 and 9 rating for this. Had the ending been better, then the art and the music would have propelled this to a 9 for me, but after seeing this - only kinda conclusive - ending (not one kiss?! also, what was all this "emotions floating" about?), the little flaws put it at 8.5/10 for me. They could have made more of the setting (I won't even start of this super weird depiction of an underwater village where you have TV and eat soup (?!)). Why did they walk underwater as if they were on land? Why was there never any current in Shioshishio which at least made their hair move? Why where they living exactly like the people on the surface? There was basically no difference, which also meant there was no palpable reason they had quarrels in the first place. What I did love however, was how they managed to depict how differently people handle love and the issues and pain that come with it. Most of the time, I could sympathize with how the characters felt and how it would be difficult to behave in such a situation or make a decision. The themes of "change" and "unrequited love" in all of its forms weren't too contrived in their actual core messages. I guess, Chisaki x Tsumugu (even though people apparently have issues with this pairing) made me appreciate the show more. To me, Chisaki was the most believable and interesting character in this, what with her suppressing her own feelings for various reasons, not wanting to change but being forced to, being separated from the others, thus feeling isolated and so on. She may not have reacted understandably all the time, but ... well... people tend no to do that when they fall in love. At least you could see how she was under pressure in many situations. She also had to change when she was the only one who stayed on the surface and stood her ground. I enjoyed how her relationship with Tsumugu played out in the end. They had this weird kind of unusual chemistry which felt refreshing. :) |

Pretty good series overall, im not sure how people really call this a "happy" ending though, Sure Hikiri & Manaka basically got together at the end but Kaname, Chisaki, and Miuna all drew the short stick, Kaname basically had to just be satisfied with Sayu even though it was obvious he didnt like her like that even thought they will probably end up being together. Chisaki had a pretty bad ending IMO because she basically wasted 5 years of her life telling herself she liked Hikiri (even though i think she really did) even at the end its kinda hinted at that she rejected Tsugumu, its obvious they are still friends but when he says that he will be visiting every month that kinda made it clear they were just gonna stay friends. Miuna i think had the worst ending, she grew up from age 9 to 14 crushing on the same guy only to have basically her own actions end up bringing her crush together with the girl he loved, sure the end shes talking about being glad she was able to love him... but come on now lol. not gonna go too much into depth with this but it was more of a bad ending than a good ending to me, except for the 2 main chars, which were obv gonna end the series together. also think the show took itself way too serious at times, ESPECIALLY since these kids are supposed to be 14, if they were 15-16 it would have felt way more real even though it doesnt really matter. All things considered i give this a 8/10 just because the feels in this show were pretty good and i liked how it portrayed growing up and losing friends etc. also rip my man hikiri in this scene lol |

So everyone pretty much just gets ena at the end? Was Oprah in charge of the ena give away? xD On a side note... Poor Miuna! I'm really glad that she came to terms with her feelings and could move forward, as well as gain ena and be able to experience the ocean in the way she dreamed of since her mother died. It just sucks for her that everyone had someone at the end, except for her. Unless that scene where the guy who confessed to her passes by her in the end was supposed to foreshadow a future relationship. It might be nice if she gave him a chance. In the back of my mind, I really did want her to end up with Hikari, but that ship sailed. She played the role of the supportive, but secretly pining, female friend who helps the MC come to terms with his feelings for another girl. So heartbreaking. |

8/10 just because Hikari choose Manaka in the end, 10/10 series if the ending Hikari go for Miuna. I alr know that Manaka fell in love with Hikari, but the way she hold her feeling it's kinda annoying. Hikari should go for Miuna instead of that annoying girl. |

Okay, I really enjoyed the series, as a fan of Miuna, i ended up little sad. I didn't get angry with Manaka X Hikari, but Miuna ended up alone. And don't come with that Minegushi guy who pretended like her... He was a douchebag. He lost all respect when he said "you can't even marry him, cause he's your uncle." thinking that she was going to give up on Hiraki, and go for him.... Ermm.. nope. It was dirty play and only hurt her for his own sake... He didn't even care about her. It's like he only wanted her body, and it was emphasized at last episode, when he said "she is getting pretty" obviously only looking to her as a piece of meat. Miuna loved Hikari for over 5 years, even she knowing Hikari loved Manaka, she endure and suported him. Even knowing she would never have him. I really don't understand why they developed Miuna.. She was a just a support character before the time skip. If they hadn't developed her to the point of making Miuna a main heroine, most of people (me included) would not get that attached to her... (actually, I’m glad that i get attached to her, i really loved her development, now im aching for a fan-fic or something to fulfill my heart) I loved Tsumugu X Chisaki Kaname X Sayu and i'm okay with Hikari X Manaka. (But Miuna = love) For me, the ending was bittersweet. Still loved the show. I can give a 10 out of 10, but the ending really pissed me off... So, it's a 9 out of 10. It was a great show, i gonna miss the sea people and the fishy curses! xD p.s: Sorry for my bad english. |

That's a beautiful ending to a beautiful anime Good job P.A. works well done I was a little disappointed that Manaka and Hikari didn't set sail but I think it's better like that to take things slowly since they are so innocent and pure <3 <3 <3 I got so emotional at the scene where Hikari was saving Miuna hearing what Hikari said to her made me cry There's something I didn't understand how did the land people got Ena However that's a happy ending and I'm glad with how this anime did turn out 8/10 |

The ending is quite unconclusive... and of course, as always, Mari Okada ruins my best girls. Miuna in the end didn't get Hikari's love, even when he realized Miuna has always been there for him. Fuck, fuck, fuck! I should've dropped this when I realized Mari Okada made this on episode 6. Since Mari Okada always ALWAYS ruin my ship. This is like the 4th anime I've seen her wreck down my ship in the ending! I don't want Miuna getting a consolidation prize of getting that random guy! This is like Sayu x Kaname all over again, but without a goddamn progress! My ending is Miuna x Hikari, since Hikari noticed her feelings more! She was there all the time and stay by his side... but I can't believe it! I just can't! MARI OKADA!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This is Mari Okada's signature. Developing a character to a main heroine... and MAKE THEM SUFFER! If Miuna hadn't been so developed and stayed like Mayu, a side character, then it wouldn't have been so painful. Miuna received so many developments and way more screen time than Manaka. Yet she's the one who is always have it hard. She waited for Hikari for 5 years and yet, she can't be together with Hikari. 9/10 though, beautiful animation, beautiful characters, and for Miuna. And since everything can happen in 5 years time, I'm sure Hikari would realize his feelings for Miuna too, since he's not certain to be with Manaka yet. Edit: upon reflecting, things could really change in a few years. Akari (Akira's son) still loves Manaka, so they could end up together later.... and let Miuna with Hikari T_T or so I WISH! Even if Miuna's love was one-sided, even if it would never be accepted, even though it was painful, Miuna was still happy that she could fall in love, that she could experience such great thing. I feel like even if they would fail to save her she, unlike Manaka, would be fine with it and would accept her fate. But we got a happy ending instead which isn't bad. |
I'm watching anime since 2012. I also play games, sometimes. Don't bother me if you want to 'become friends' or things like that. It's tiresome. I know you just want to collect some meaningless numbers. Thought: How many people sparked H. Charlotta just for blue pot? |

Honestly I love this anime, but the ending was a bit disappointing. I didn't expect an happy end (that's naturally a good thing), but I also didn't expect an open one. I have still a lot of questions which will never be answered, but it's ok. I don't like the couples, but the truth is that I don't even understand if there are any new couples. Because at the end we can see that Hikari and Manaka confessed their feelings to each other, but haven't a relationship and don't even kiss each other one time and I really wanted to see them in a relationship. Than there are Tsumugu and Chisaki who became an official couple, but I don't understand if Chisaki still loves Hikari. I think that she still prefers Hikari more than Tsumugu. It feels like Tsumugu is more like a second choice (just an opinion). And they also didn't kiss each other the only thing that we can see is that Tsumugu moves away. And I don't think or at least I haven't understand if Soyu and Kaname start a relationship...probably not, because it seems like Kaname just start to see her as a friend. *my* *ships* *are* : Kaname+ Chisaki Miuna+ Hikari Tsumugu+ Manaka As a Miuna fan I'm sad that after all the sacrifices that she made she's the only who doesn't find a boyfriend, because Soyu isn't in a relationship, but still became Kaname's friend. The only thing that made me happy was the fact that Hikari proves that he cares about Miuna. I don't really love the ending, but it's ok and I stil really really really love the anime. Ps: sorry for my English, but I haven't time to read my comment properly.:) |

I need to slap my past self for pushing this off for so long. This series was wonderful! It was a super easy to watch series for me. I was able to finish this within 72 hours on top of working 32 hours and watching 8 episodes of other anime/1 football game. This was an absolutely fantastic Romantic Drama and it kept me engaged the entire time. It felt like a typical romantic drama at first but things kept snowballing into another until it became an avalanche of emotions. The animation was superb and the characters were all real likable for the most part. The story was well written and fit perfectly with the supernatural setting. Making a romance/drama tie in with the supernatural genre is a hard thing to do but this series did a great job on this. 5/5- for the finale 9/10- for the series. The only reason why I won't rate this as a 10 is because I felt that the Sea God was a bit petty and that his issues/misunderstanding being resolved like that was kinda a lame way to save everyone. It felt like the Sea God was also a teenager in angst. It also could be because I'm kinda old as shit now but teenage romance really doesn't hit home for me at all. It was still a great series to watch regardless of my personal feelings. Also Miuna is awesome! I absolutely adore the crap out of her and I wished she had a better ending to all this. She's definitely the #1 main character of this series in my book and the best girl. But I can't complain too much though since I'm actually satisfied with the ending and that Hikari ends up with Manaka...cause I want Miuna to be with someone better cause she deserves it. |

Aw it's over. I hate ending :( I'm sad now. Honestly this was not at all what I expected the series to be. I actually saw some pictures of this online and it took a while for me to finally watch it. And I ended up kind of guessing what the plot was and I did not imagine this at all. I ended up watching it after someone mentioned they finished it and it made them cry a few times. I'm a sucker for emotional anime so I had to watch. I didn't cry once so it was disappointing. I'm honestly beyond in love with the art though. The character design is so pretty and their eyes πDefinitely my favorite anime eyes ever. I'm also a huge fan of the sea so I loved the visuals when they were underwater. I just didn't expect this to be mostly about romance and having everyone love each other and no one liking each other back XD I actually really loved the start of the series. The middle was my least favorite part and the ending was good as well. Even though it wasn't what I expected I loved the characters a lot..especially miuna! And it was a good story. I'll give it a 8/10 |

Ah really great and emotional final, couldn't help myself, but smile throughout the second half, yet I'm also sad that I already finished this show. Glad that it turned out to be a happy end, well not for everyone, have still a tiny bit of sadness in myself for Miuna, even tho she already overcame her first love. Also like to mention that the fact that they left things open with the couples is nice imo. Overall I pretty much loved everything from characters, story to amazingly beautiful artwork and music. 8,5/10 |

That was such a satisfying conclusion, I loved watching again these characters struggling with their emotions until they found an answer, all happening in this beautiful setting where sea and land are now more connected than ever. Fantastic story, great cast with very interesting development, touching drama, and to me still one of the best, if not the best looking anime, I just love the art style and the animation of this anime too much. 10/10, I'm so glad that I gave this series a rewatch. |

I am quite cold with this ending is not bad but I feel somewhat cold the first half is really emotional, but the prologue I don't know what to say I should've prefered a time skip two, three years, but after the first half of the prologue you just can guess what happen with all the boys and girls, the end with Hikari and Manaka talking about their feelings in their way was good. What do I get from this story is that things should change at it's own pace not rush things. My favourite characters from this anime Miuna and Hikari. 8/10 if the end was somewhat different 10/10. |

Stark700 said: Oh damn and a bittersweet ending ;3 Still, I always liked Miuna.. 5 YEARS FORWARD? Ooh wow. Still, 8/10, I enjoyed most parts of this show. There were so many cliche moments, yet I still accepted them. Miuna is without a doubt the best girl in Nagi no Asukara. I'd ship Miuna X Hikari any day of the week. Too bad we never got to see any real romance between the two, or any of the "couples". After all, this anime is solely for younger kids. Yeah, the ending was definitely bitter sweet. Although everyone ended up having a partner, there were no scenes about the aftermath, perhaps show us some pics of them 10 years later... 7/10 kids romance, still enjoyed it though. |

I'm pretty torn up after watching this series. Normally a series with 24-26 eps will only take me 2 days but this one took me so long that I barely finished a whole episode. Dont get me wrong, I like NagiUsa, the first half was great but second half was dragged on a little too much with the ridiculous amounts of drama. . I also didnt like how they treated Kaname. Its sad that he has no other role character story besides his love for Chisaki :( poor him Lol I just realise I cant handle a show with a complex love polygon so I dont have a plan to rewatch it I'll give it 7/10 because I didnt get the ships I wanted even just one.. RIP ManakaxTsumugu RIP KanameXChisaki RIP HikarixMiura also rip me :( |
