It doesn't make sense, for example when the girl falls down stairs and lands on the guy (usually she lands near his pelvic area/leg area) immediately blames him calling him a pervert and she hits/kicks him and bystanders are fine with it. To me this is NOT comedy, honestly it is a an outrage for me whenever i see this, because violence against men DOES exist

What would happen if we put it backwards

A guy fell down the stairs and landed on her and immediately blames her calling her a pervert and hits her? its awful right? but when it happens to a man its comedy?

If possible i would like the opinions of male and females

Thanks.

You do realize those are comedies you are watching?

Well for people who want to see the "opposite" of this trope: It does exist!

http://myanimelist.net/anime/11785/Haiyore!_Nyaruko-san

Just turn the identity of the female lead into "Cthulu monster disguised as girl", while having a comedy setting and suddenly you got a free pass for stabbing forks into her head. Just for "comedic" purposes of course.

Interestingly the amount of "abuse" aspects seem to decrease as the show progresses...

I REEAAAAALY wonder why that could be...... hmmmmm... /sarcasm

It was kind of funny the first few times I saw it. A cheap chuckle.

A few times after that I just stopped reacting to it.

A few times after I stopped reacting to it, I started becoming irritated by it and now whenever I see it, I close my eyes and sigh in exasperation. If I'm in a bad mood from a shitty day at work or something I might just delete the whole show from my hard drive.

I see some frustrated MRA's here.

In a society where men are seen as stronger, we'd take violence against them much less seriously. If women are weak, then it's hilarious to see them try to beat up a man. It's like seeing an ant killing an elephant - it's the disconnection from reality that's supposed to be funny.

Privilege goes both ways!

That only makes sense when it actually is like that. But ironically in MANY of the series where it's done, the female characters are actually more than 10 times stronger than the "comedically abused" male character. In short: Your argument does simply not apply in-universe to a lot of series.

I talk more about how perceive things, not as they really are. Most people would perceive an ant as weak. It's a tiny insect that's easily squashed, after all.

We perceive men as stronger than women most of the time - Western media sure has more action heroes than heroins (Not that I care. Giving a woman guns hardly makes for good characterization).

That's not true nowadays though. We have lots of cases where, sadly, authors are afraid of enraging the feminists and in some way try to appease them.

To see it you have to look no further than school books for mathematics. In examples where a boy and a girl argue about something it never ends with the boy being right and the girl being wrong. The girl can be right, or both wrong or both right, but you will never see a "boy who is smarter than a girl". Well at least that's what happened in the books I used when I went to school. There were also quite a few "polically green oriented" authors for my English books, so political bias is often included here. Don't know about cases outside Germany though.

The trope reminds me of a girl I know who used to kick her boyfriend in the balls all the time. He'd just laugh it off because he was in love with her. Then she dumped him and came out as lesbian.

I was always puzzled as to why he let it happen. The comedic abuse thing just puzzles me in general.

That same society is constantly trying to remind us that women are equal to men in all aspects of life, and you see plenty of examples in media (advertisements, books, movies, TV shows) where females are presented as better, or at least morally superior to men. So maybe in the fifties it would be hilarious to see a girl beat up a guy, but now it's just commonplace.

I am not that much into this type of comedy because it's lazy and easy to abuse, but it's no more no less than your typical slapstick, except making fun of gender roles in the process.

Because sometimes they want to please the crazy feminists and their lunatic ideology.

Actually a girl beating a guy just for the lulz is pretty sexist itself and nothing a feminist would actually aprove. Why? Because if it's funny, when I girl hits a guy, doesn't that imply that girls are insanely weak and it's ridicilous when they actually do something violent? Just think about that for a while.

That's silly catering to feminists. We will never live in an equal society until people will give up the privileges that come with being a victim.

Jal90 raises some valid points. Does anyone sees violence against men that's serious? So far, this thread just described a type of sexist and tasteless slapstick.
