Hope there will be more fight scenes in the future.

I don't mind the characters, apparently Hestia is a big hit with a lot of people but I don't really understand why. The main protagonist is a little too wimpy for my taste, hopefully he changes after getting stronger.

Also Syr's confession was cute. Action was nice, music even better.

This sum's up everything.
I can now say this is one I will follow, I'm really liking Bell and how he is becoming a small badass. I was so happy that Bell was the one to kill the beast (Thought someone else would appear)

Am I the only one hoping Bell doesn't spend his whole time going after Aiz Wallenstein? I really don't like her from what we've seen and Bell can do better.

I have no problem with them trying to establish their relationship, but the execution just fell through for me.

This seems like less a problem with the show and more that you have a very weak suspension of disbelief or that you've been too jaded and head your head to far in T.V. Tropes.

Suspension of disbelief is a compromise between the show and the audience, saying it's more my problem doesn't seem entirely correct to me.

I didn't find this episode to be terrible, I just didn't feel anything from the emotional aspect of this episode, which makes most of it uninteresting filler.

As long as this doesn't turn into SAO level pile of crap, I'll be fine with the show.

You think Hestia would have given him the knife sooner. But it all worked out in the end! Although Hestia is the one that the internet has decried as best girl, I quite like Syr a lot too. They are both pretty great in my book.

Also props to Ganesh for being responsible and not letting petty things ruin other people's lives.

This is definitely starting to get better now, what with Hestia finally giving him the damn knife and the show finally having a good fight scene (after completely glossing over the one against the shadow creatures in the first ep). This is about as much of the LN as I've read so far, so from next week everything will be new to me. I'm intrigued to see where this show goes as it moves forward.

Great EP

I like pretty much everything about Bell other than his puppy dog crush on Ais. I'd much rather it just be admiration, similar to how one would admire a man that saved them. Hopefully it peters out quickly, and he realizes Hestia clearly cares for him more than anyone else. I suppose I'll be fine if his crush on Ais acts as some characters development for him and temporary motivation to become stronger, but doesn't materialise into anything. I have no problem with Ais as a character, but BellxAis rubs me the wrong way. Especially since part of it is "I need to become strong enough to protect her, because I am a MAN!" Think she can take care of herself bud. On the other hand all HestiaxBell moments are pretty heartwarming, and they clearly both care for each-other a lot.

Incidentally, criticisms of him crying are pretty dumb. He cried because he was deeply moved that Hestia cared about him so much, I thought it was nice. I'm not an emotional person in real life and almost never cry for any reason; but even I can understand this much.

The fight was pretty interesting. It struck me as one of those things where Bell would have had a much harder time in a completely open space. The fact they were in an urban environment with places to hide, walls to bounces off and of course clotheslines for aerial momentum pushed things in his favor. The more shit like that around you the better time the small/agile fighter is gonna have against the big/strong one. Thought he was gonna go for the exposed eye, but I guess stabby stabby works too.

Also I'm assuming Bell/Hestia got to keep that huge ass crystal? May have just missed it, but I didn't see it addressed.

is the manga and LN the same guys? which one did they follow? from the manga Aiz was just suppose to catch a glimpse of Bell as he runs seriously while carrying Hestia in his arms...

but this episode's still nice though...

No you are right this also happened in the LN she caught a glimpse of him as he ran carrying Hestia through the streets. The anime ended sort of skipping this scene and combining it into the scene where the people from Daedalus Street were cheering bell from the windows of their homes after the monster died. So yeah that scene was kind of weird since a huge group of people suddenly popped up behind him, rather it was meant to be people just cheering him from their windows since Bell was already aware people had been watching him since he entered Daedalus Street but they could not help since well they are normal people not everyone in the city is an adventurer.

greebo said:
That has to be one of the most moronic episodes of anime I have ever witnessed... I wonder which muttonhead decided the only way to build up tension was to hold off as long as possible giving him that damn knife. "Yes we have one monster missing but we can't find him". They could easily find the tiny ones but a 40ft monkey destroying buildings it too hard... And where the hell did all those people come from after the fight! lol

They found the other monsters easy because they never left the general area of outside the arena they were all looking for Freya who let them loose and were just walking around so they were easy to find for people. Rather the monster chasing Hestia and Bell locked onto them because Hestia is also a Goddess and has the same aura as Freya and when he found them like Freya wanted it was like a whisper in the monsters ear urging him to chase them down and go on a rampage. This lead into Daedalus Street which is a slum area that is like a labyrinth and away from the crowded festival street areas around the arena.

Like other people said the anime did not really explain the weakness of monsters very well but I think the anime might of mentioned it earlier? But what Bell did to the monster was hit its weak point which is the crystal he severed it from its body and that instantly killed the monster. What is the core of the monsters are the crystals in their body it is like a heart but even more so because when removed or severed or destroyed (though most will not want to destroy it because crystals are the source of income for the adventurers) the monsters body will disappear, though sometimes a piece of them with extra energy remains and that is a monster drop also another source of income or can be used to make items. Anyway Bell saw his opening which you saw when his eyes focused he flipped the knife straights forward and charged in hitting the weak point and ending the monster. I actually quite like when they did that hit because it looked like the monsters arm moved in slow motion when Bell charged and stabbed him but it was actually Bell moving so fast he had stabbed, hit and dodged away before the monster could do a full swing at him.

Like people said it was frustrating waiting for Hestia to give him the knife but it was even worse when reading the manga because it took weeks (multiple chapters) lol. Though as you saw it is not like she could give it to him to use right away because it had to be activated and Bell also needed his status updated since they had not seen each other for days. Really the only time she could of gave it to him before was when they first met up and were enjoying time together before the monster showed up. After they spent the whole time relentlessly being chased by the monster with Bell at his wits end and then he separated himself from Hestia to try protect her. They finally got a chance to do it when they shook the monster for a while since Daedalus Street is a labyrinth.

Pretty good episode. Hestia remains one of the most adorable things ever. So... How strong is Bell supposed to be? I doubt Bell will turn into a bad-ass overnight, so is this going to be the whole scenario of: Fight starts- Bell gets his ass handed to him- Strength of wills and such- Bell lands a critical hit- The end? Could be wrong, but this could go very stale, very quickly IF Bell's special ability becomes the focal point of each fight.

I thought that was a darn good episode. Felt like they really managed to bring out some energy and emotion in this episode. Starting out with Bell's family situation and then building up to Bell and Hestia having strong character moments.

Full points to Hestia's VA, she really does a great job bringing energy into the scenes she's in. Both wanting the other to survive and willing to take risks in order to make that happen.

Good episode.

While I can get that, it's not like he would have won if she just tossed him the knife from the start. Without that status update he still would have lost, knife or no knife.

I found it amazing how many people were flipping out about this. Whatever happened to patiently following the progression of a story? Plus they are kind of missing the basic summary of the weapon. It gets stronger as he gets stronger, but if he doesn't get stronger the knife isn't going to get stronger. It's going to be at basic level if she just tosses it to him right out of the gate. Without that update it's pointless.

People might as well have spent the episode yelling at the monster to leave them alone so Bell could get his update right away.

Why did Hestia hand the knife to Bell so late? Ah I see, she had to update his status. But why not mention it earlier?

As Bell grows stronger, I feel myself growing stronger for some reason. I am a status baka after-all.

Syr is 2nd best girl just as I thought, confessing her love like that.

It was not a boss monster it was just a monster from the eleventh floor it was not even as strong as the Minotaur from the 1st episode. Bell just got a decent weapon that was not a load of crap like his first one that he had to buy with a loan from the guild so he actually has something worth a damn now. Freya also sent that monster after him with the intention of making him grow she was not really trying to kill him she wants to see him shine but she is doing it in a drastic and dangerous way.

The weapon is only as strong as the user the weapon is not OP in terms of power itself but will be strong as long as Bell continues to grow strong himself the knife will grow with him. It is the perfect weapon for a poor starting adventure that is growing rapidly and can not afford to keep buying new weapons. For that reason because it grows that is exactly why Hephaistos said from a blacksmiths perspective it is a bad weapon since it would ruin their business.

No because she spent about 30 or so hours on her knees begging Hephaistos to make Bell the weapon then she helped make the weapon with Hephaistos without rest then again without rest was chased about by a big ass monster, put simply she was exhausted.

Am I the only person that feels this episode is shit? For 6 minutes, Hestia held onto the knife without even mentioning it, knowing that they were in a life or death situation, where Bell could have ended it a lot earlier if she had just fucking given him a sword. That was obviously just a bad attempt to made the situation seem hopeless for Bell, but then 'a sudden relevation' or something makes him seem heroic.
Then, after Bell defeats the monster, about 100 people come out of hiding places. This, in my opinion, is absolute BULLSHIT. We didnt see a single person hide, the only other life forms we saw during those scenes were two men, who were chatting and casually leaning against the wall. I think that they are trying to create a reputation for Bell here. Make him defeat the monster in a heroic fashion while everyone watches. Thats fine, but only if it comes naturally. 100 people suddenly materialising is NOT natural. Otherwise, this was a good episode. Not nearly as good as the previous 2, but still pretty good.

IDK why people are getting hyped about the action. Im not going to say it was bad, but it was far from good. The clothes line thing was good, but nothing else really stood out IMO. Also, its kinda annoying that they don't show wounds. I understand this is aimed more towards kids, but it just doesnt work too well. Action scenes and swordfighting, but no wounds or marks of any kind on the monster's body.

Also, I feel that the producers are slacking off. Lets recall the events in this episode.

1) Bell receives the sword and kills the monster
2) Hestia falls unconscious from exhaustion.

Normally in any action anime, a lot more plot would be stuffed into one episode. Here it just feels as if they want to stretch out the scenes to make the anime a lot longer, for one reason or another. I dont know, but this episode wasn't what it should have been.

This is my opinion, so it is not 'wrong'. Understand I hated this episode, but not the anime as a whole. Thanks.

EDIT: How I feel at the moment:

Did Bell just stab the monster with his knife and then casually leave it in the monster's chest, and then continued by celebrating his victory without even going to pick it up? That important knife that his goddess made herself? Wow. I would have loved somebody from the crowd to jump in, take it and then run away (bonus points for snatching the crystal as well)

Unfortunately this is really average until now, I have no hopes of it getting better, but it's entertaining enough to make me laugh.

Also, two confessions, one episode - bit unusual. Main character not properly reacting to any of them - check.
