| Glad I'm not the only one who noticed this. If there is ever a fat character in anime/manga it's some ugly male otaku nerd. I've read some hentai manga with chubby girls though, and I think I saw a hentai clip with a fat girl too. They're very rare it seems. |

| This isn't exclusive to anime, it's been a very common trademark of entertainment to use attractive characters. Go watch a Spanish soap opera and tell me how many darker skinned main characters you see. Most people want something that is visually pleasing and it would be rather lame to have purposely ugly characters just for the sake of it. The only time less than perfect characters enhance the experience is when it's meant to be a down to earth portrayal of real people (Monster does this well). |

| Chihayafuru - all the side characters aren't exactly the bishounen/bishoujos but they still had great personalities and were likable. +1 Princess Jellyfish. Main issue was that all the "ugly" ones were seen as weirdos. And yeah, that girl from Cross Game. |
