Its arguably the best story arc in the whole thing. far closer to the fist half of SAO in terms of tone. I thought it was one of the worst and that it started to get repetitive with this arc. Aincrad, Mother's rosario and Alicization are the best arcs in my opinion. If this second season is two courses then I do hope that Mother's rosario will take the second half. kuuurt said: Hm.. this kinda makes me want to pick up the clusterfuck that is the first season... Should I? Probably not. If you enjoy reading then I'd recommend you to skip the anime altogether as it is a poor adaptation. You should read the novels. If you don't enjoy reading well... I'd also recommend you to skip the anime altogether. The only reason I'm watching and enjoying it is because I've read the source material. The anime discarded the thoughts of the characters which make up for roughly three quarter of every volume. This way you end up with undefined and badly developed character doing flashy things with some loldrama. It's a poor experience for anyone that didn't read the source material in my opinion. I guess that's a recurrent problem as far as light novel adaptation goes but this time they really did a bad job. I don't mean anything subjective as 'Oh I liked that scene and it should have been in the anime !' but they clearly cut everything that defined and developed the characters into pieces. I bet Mahouka will suffer a similar fate, sigh. |

SAO LN is actually decent compared to most fantasy LN out there. The next arcs (GGO and mother's rosario) are actually pretty good. Watch it getting screwed up and all the characters being emo in the adaptation though. In the novel, the inner struggle of the characters are EXTREMELY detailed. In the anime, it will just look they are all emo :/ |

| YES!!! It's here!!! Please let it air in the Summer. Since it aired in the Summer 2012 why not Summer 2014. : ) Whoa it took 2 years for SAO season 2 to be announced/air. Similarly to how Kirito beat SAO in 2 years. Coincidence??? : 0 |

| It was just a matter of time, but I'm looking forward to it and on that note... In Phantom Bullet there's this bullet prediction line but when I thought about how it works, the mechanics didn't make quite line up for me so I'm interested to see how that comes out. All in all, SAO II should be a better watch with a nicer source material imo and if A-1 decides to do a better job this time round. Either way, I think this will be relatively solid. |

ssjokg said: Yes it does a better job than shounen like Naruto,FT and Bleach but Monogatari? No. You can't really compare SAO with Monogatari and SAO with Naruto/Bleach. 1) Monogatari is a different style of writing mostly focused on the different state of mind of the characters. The whole plot and oddities are driven by each character's personality and inner struggles. 2) Naruto/Bleach are manga, not to mention action shounen. You can't do the same you do with novels in an action shounen manga very easily. Why? Because you don't hear the character's thoughts much in a regular manga = overall superficial characterization. Only true masters mangaka can integrate good characterization in a subtle way in an action shounen. 3) SAO LN is a first-person narration mixed with third person omniscient narrator. Most of the novel describes what Kirito feels and experiences in a first-hand manner. The other half of the novel is describing what other character feels and experiences. In fact, most of the novel is all about what the character thinks and feels about the situation, not like an action-driven LN such as Highschool DxD for instance (in that regards DxD would be like a shounen action). That being said, this does not necessarily mean SAO is better. In fact, it chose the easy way out by using the simplest narrator solution to help shaping the characterization. Over 90% of this, which actually made SAO LN enjoyable, is all lost in the adaptation. |
