well i moved to the west. canada, specifically. in sixth grade. this one girl came up to me and yelled " DO U WATCH ANIMUU." she was the only person who approached me. so obviously i said no what is that and for the rest of middle/elementary school she persistently tried to force me to watch anime. at that time i though they were retarded asian cartoons, and thought that I would never ever watch them, lol. in 8th grade, she succeeded. she is no longer as weeby as before and obviously watched more than me now. we seem to be 'best friends'. also it seems her true motive was to ruin my life, she also succeeded in that.

Puberty -> Porn -> Hentai -> Anime

Dem hormones and dat curiosity.

On a serious note, I just watched it as a kid with regular american cartoons and the occasional mature anime films my dad had. Eventually just focused more on anime, especially when we finally got internet.

Well. I've watched my first anime when I was a kid. Shaman king, after that Naruto. But then the channel got closed down so I took a very long break. After that my friend got me back into anime so yeah. Still watching it since that day.

Back when I was a youngin in High School I was an athletic teen and part of the school's soccer team. Very dedicated.
I had a fucked up knee that took a turn for the worst and I couldn't play soccer anymore.

So I went to anime club at my school because I had a few friends in there.
Had never watched anime before but then I was addicted.
First thing I saw in that class was FMP and I was hooked. I had been so wrong about anime beforehand and for the next few years of high school I became involved in my school's anime club as well as started attending anime conventions etc.

Now I'm basically a loser who never exercises and spends my spare moments watching or rewatching anime. I make good life choices.

The fact that you're here on MAL proves you make good life choices. XD

That, my friend, is a procedure as yet undiscovered by scientists.

Wrong. You just need a bullet to go through your brain and it's over.

Toonami.
I wanted to watch YuYu Hakusho to the end, and Toonami just stopped dubbing it. Using the internet I found out where I could watch the rest, was exposed to Japanese for my first time and just continued watching other shows from there.

I used to watch a lot of the very Americanized anime such as Pokemon, Yu-Gi-Oh!, Beyblade, and Bakugan when I was little. All the ones you didn't know they were anime.
Second semester of freshman year of high school, my friend just randomly started talking about anime, and told me to watch anime. Asked another friend where I should start and he replied Cowboy Bebop, ended up hating it, since I was so impatient at the time.
Told me to watch Samurai Champloo, loved it, but I didn't start really getting into anime until like a year ago, I did watch it here and there, but not as much as now.

I moved out of my house and with this girl temporarily (like a month or so 9 years ago?) and she was a huge anime fan. I didn't care much about it, but one day she showed me an episode of Hikaru no Go and I found it interesting. Then we watched Ouran High School Host Club, super fun!

She totally hooked me with Naruto though....... totally a gateway 'drug'

I've always liked cartoons (I still watch Cartoon Network even though I'm 22) and I have every possible cartoon chanel on my TV. I once checked the TV guide to see if there's something interesting and I saw Death Note on some cartoon station I usually avoided because they never had anything interesting. I didn't even know what anime is (I mean, just some kids cartoons but in japanese, right?) so I decided to check it out of curiosity and here I am now 4 years later, slacking off on MAL instead of studying.

All my TV shows were either off season/cancelled/getting boring and I've been reading manga for years and I decided to give anime a try a few months ago.

Generally its the other way around of people watching anime then reading manga but I thought watching anime would confirm my fate as a weeb. Somehow reading manga didn't make me weeby? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I even learned how to read Japanese to read more novels/manga but watching anime was just crossing the weeb line.

Anyways, I've given up on it and embraced my fate.

Almost a year ago, my friend kept on telling me to watch Kill la Kill and after about a month of her telling me to watch it, I finally took the time to sit down and watch the show. I instantly loved it and was pretty sad when I finished it. After that, I looked up the studio that made KLK (Trigger) and found out that they had two (at the time) upcoming series, Kiznaiver and Space Patrol Luluco, which would both be airing very soon. When the time finally came, I decided to watch a lot of the other anime series that was airing that season and since then, I've been watching anime.

I grew up watching anime that was aired on t.v. I always wake up every morning on the weekends just to watch them. My first anime was Pokemon, Dragon Ball Z, and Yugioh and from there I started watching more anime such as Bleach, Naruto, and One Piece.

Ostensibly I grew up watching and enjoying a lot of Shounen anime. Afterward, I went on and find a lot of variety of genre of anime to watch then it all went on. Apparently a few years ago I lost interest in anime so I decided to take a break from it.

So then a friend of mine recommended a anime series for me to watch because he was watching it, so I gave it a shot and loved it, and sooo on I continued to watch more anime series.

Two of my friends kept nagging me about how good anime was, but I didn't want to get into it because it didn't really interest me. After a few months of them constantly telling me to start watching, I decided to give Death Note a try since the premise intrigued me. I loved it, but I wouldn't have called myself a fan of anime at that point. It was after finishing One Piece that I fell in love with the medium.

Probably watching Sailor Moon with my sister. I don't remember any of it but that was probably the first one.(I used to put her dolls in my trucks and stuff)

Then DBZ, but still wasn't hooked.

FLCL in ~2000 was the first one that really got me into anime. It led me to Gurren Lagann and Kill la Kill and since then I've been watching every kind except Moe and lady focused ones(Josei and Shoujo).

I've been crazy about anime ever since I was a kid. I just have a faint memory of my oldest brother watching a lot of anime and I liked it because it was different. As I got older I started to watch more than just action anime. I used to only watch "newer" anime until a good friend told me about really good "older" anime and I've been watching almost anything I'm recommended since :)
