Wow. That is quite a wicked curse, now its Diva and Fox combination.

Analyzing this episode, Ulla is the witch! Wow, what's more, she is alive.

It was funny when Ulla and Ai were talking while Kiriko was still ranting on and on. An interesting episode, it really begs the question as to whether or not grave keepers are needed if the dead can continue existing in happiness. And I absolutely love the ending theme, just goes so well with the end of each episode and the overall atmosphere of this anime.

It's shown on the OP

Right... I didn't realize that. For some reason, I expected her to be some kind of twoheaded monster or a human consisting of two people... I guess one creepy character is enough.
Anyway, pretty good episode.

I loved the episode and I like the plot and the progression of the story very much.
I have to say though...I fucking miss Hampnie!!! He was sooo bad ass, I didn't even expect he would die so early, I mean....
Still, I really like the story. And the animation...DAYUM!

I like the setting and the story, but I find the dialogue and the characters boring. Plus, there are some annoying inconsistencies.

One episode people freak out when Ai removes her mask, like there's some danger, and later she just roams around mask-free, even meeting the princess like that.

Also, the boy's back story was super gruesome, and I kept wondering, why was he telling that story out of context like that? I guess he was just done being mysterious, cause that was last episode.

I keep watching because I'm half-fascinated by the art. Sometimes, it's like the "camera" moves out and we see some animated scenery that looks really cool.

The city was under martial law, the streets weren't full of people.

Out of context? It was because Ai asked if he was alive.

oh, i haven't even thought about checking out another sub. i rewatched that scene and your sub is a bit better, indeed. thanks for that.
but unfortunately it still doesn't make complete sense to me. because what's the point in being one of the "dead" people? atm there's no difference between the "dead" and living ones, especially in that city where the doctor is able to stop the rotting and everything. so why do these people want to "die"? their lifes won't change. do they think they'll get happier in ortus? at first i thought that group wanted to die (really die) with the help of a gravekeeper, but kiriko said that group wants to move to ortus. that's the thing i don't understand :/ (does that even make sense for anyone else? i really feel like i'm overseeing something and it's actually quite simple and i just make it complicated... oh dear.)

Because they were strayed and starving, and had nowhere to go, although we still don't know why they were in that situation. Then they found Ortus, but they have to die to live there.

can i just mention how i love how this series can juggle extremly dark and at times even gruesome tones and ideas, yet never come off as forced and try to be edgy, it allows for there to be beauty in this world that should lack any.

I should also mention that ost is gorgeous and i cant wait until it drops

Another great episode, not as good as I expected, but at least the context of the series pleases me greatly, as the characters. I hope the secret behind this world be revealed until the end, I feel that this story of God's leave the world a bit strange.

Really great episode again, nice to meet and get to know new characters.
Yeah, I thought the princess looked like the witch, and even appeared as if she was the one who would grant the living their peaceful death.

Ulla's seiyuu ^^

, and don't forget my favorite character of this series (who is unfortunately sick), Scar<3 I just hope she'll be okay, since we know something's going down with her sickness and the voices.

I found Kiriko's background pretty cool. He's part of 5 people at the same time, he hardly ages at all and he access all of their knowledge for his own purposes. Sounds pretty convenient. ^^; I really wonder though if he can like hear them too or know what they're thinking. I'm sure there's some disadvantages to it... and I'm still very curious about that lion mask as well. Next episode is where shit will really go down and we'll finally be able to see the princess without her mask! Ahhh so excited.

With the Kiriko pairs: The man/woman at the gate is 1 pair using the man's left half and woman's right. The doctor/woman pair is another using the doctor half and the other half of the woman. They don't swap faces. This meas another pair could be the doctor's and the other man's halves.

Also if Scar wants a baby...

*unzips fly*

I will be more than happy to oblige

Anyways, this episode really reminded me Casshern Sins. I can help but wonder how she'll 'kill' all of them. Not sure why but I can totally see her shooting beams out of her face after taking off the stuff... maybe I'm just tired.

hopefully they explain why the mc is a 12-yr girl, soon and it better have some high value to the overall plot.

It was already easy to guess and confirmed this episode by the witch.
"If you truly wanted a child with all of your hearts, God would have already granted that wish".
The reason why Ai was born despite the living not being able to reproduce anymore is that Hana earnestly wanted to have a daughter and God granted that wish. Just like Hambart's immortality, Ai herself is a miracle granted by God.

This episode also made clear that not every wish are granted, only those that people seeks from the bottom of their heart. Usually when we wish for something, there are always things that we cannot accept/do not like as well that accompany it.
An example would be a mom wishing for a child. That mom will love her child without a doubt. Having a child will be something beneficial for her and it is a decision she will never regret. But accompanying all this happiness she wished for will come things she dislike : devoting herself to daily chore and the likes.
That's something she accepts because the good outnumber the bad, that's what you can call a normal human decision.
Still those negative point exists and are something small but deeply rooted in her heart which make her not want to have that child to begin with. That in itself means that she isn't wishing for it from the bottom of her heart and God will not grant her wish.

It is almost impossible for a human to earnestly desire something from the bottom of their heart and that is completely normal. Still for those that actually do, God will listen to their wish and grant them.
That's why there is so little individual that have their wish granted.

I still can't get enough of the soundtrack.

I for one don't mind that the mc is so young. For me, it's the attitude and actual characteristics that matter.

So pumped for the next episode though! Wonder if Ulla's face has something to do with the people dying "peacefully". I wonder if they'll explain it if that is the case.

Such lack of caution for Ai to wander around and even take off her mask on the street. She really thinks that the warning about gravedigger is sure to be killed in this city is insignificant?
So MAL finally starts locking news threads that are only a few weeks old?

I wonder where was the announcement of this change? Or we are seeing yet another case of changes made that impacted users but not communicated to them?

I wonder how long people would put up with this.

As much as I have a bunch of information to share about anime announced recently I cannot share it in news board, and the anime series is too disorganized and chaotic to share information except with people already interested in the particular series.

Even if someone saw her with her mask off, they would consider her a normal human at worst. It is not possible for someone to know she is a grave-keepers unless they are told because she act nothing like the part.
Sure she would get cold gaze and probably be told to get the fuck out but since she has been authorized to stay here until her car is repaired, death is an outcome with extremely low possibilities.

Ai and Kiriko exchanged secrets, eh? She decided to reveal her identity as half living human and half gravekeeper while Kiriko revealed his origin story. Well, that explains why Pox and Rex are the way they are, not just some product of experimentation on the dead. Interestingly, the "pairings" can be mixed and matched...

It says a lot about the current state of their world when even the desperate living wish to die in order to survive. Yuri is right about something wrong going on when the ruler of the land of the dead is a living person. It's interesting, but something is clearly off. I didn't expect Ulla to be a living human either.

I actually find it interesting that our main character is a young girl instead of the more usual teenage male in most anime nowadays.

To everyone that keeps questioning Yuri's character, please re-watch episode 2 and actually pay attention to the dialogue. He never really wanted revenge on Kizuna for killing his wife. Kizuna himself shot down his revenge facade instantly, and revealed that he wanted to die because he had nothing to live for anymore after his daughter died. So since he never really hated Kizuna, he went and saved him as that's what best friends do. Now for why he's acting like that with Ai, its probably because he sees his own daughter in her and is using her as a replacement. Or maybe hes just worried cause its his best friends daughter, who knows?
