In recent Viewings I've really become a fan of Wahlen. at first I only like him for him for his voice (I think it was the most unique in the series, sadly his Seiyuu never did anything afterward), but when you look back on him, he wound up being one of my favorites for how brave he was. I mean,

Did any LoGH materials ever give the name of Yang's cat? I was always of the opinion that HE was the one De Villiers was warning them about right before he died.

It is hard for me to choose between Oberstein and Reuental for my top favorite character.

For characters who get less screen time, my favorites are Mecklinger, Eisenach, and Lutz.

1st place is reserved for one of greatest heroes among anime characters Reinhard von Lohengramm.
2nd place goes for Oberstein, this guy made so much dirty work for Empire and he accepted his fate. Last epizode was almost overtaken by his part.
3rd place for Siegfried Kircheis, his part should have been longer!

Oskar von Reuenthal, because he's simply the man.
Paul von Oberstein, because he's so glorious, I'll refrain from describing it.
Wolfgang Mittermeyer, because he's a pretty cool family guy.
Reinhard von Lohengramm, just because.
Walter von Schenkopp, because of his manliness (which is far less extensive than Oskar's)
Ulrich Kessler, he's a good person.
Adalber von Fahrenheit, because he is so LOYAL.

Can someone explain the love for Oskar Von Reuenthal? I just don't get why he keeps coming up top or near the top for so many people.
There are three kinds of intelligence: one kind understands things for itself, the other appreciates what others can understand, the third understands neither for itself nor through others. This first kind is excellent, the second good, and the third kind useless.

1) Reinhard von Lohengramm - hes pwnage and actually changes alot throughout
2) Yang Wenli - Hes awesome, (just too flat a character)
3) Oberstein - who doesn't like his mind rape logic...
4) Reuenthal/Mittermeyer - great characters
5) Bucock and the rest of the Imperial admirals - good militarymen

For me it's Yang Wenli all the way. Throughout the series my sympathy was with him and his crew, so my next choices are also people from alliance: Shenkopp, Julian Minci, Poplan.

From the other camp I loved Frueline Mariendorf, for her incredible intellect and logical thinking. Mittermeyer was also my favorite.

As for Reinhard, who so many people like, I liked him (of course), but I preferred him young, as the series progressed I somehow lost my interest in him. I guess it shifted to Yang...

I'd say Yang for combined awesomeness.

But Reuenthal is a character with an enourmous dramatic value, and I enjoyed every second he was on screen. Now I think Reuenthal was my favourite, lol.

2. Hilda - intelligent and caring. Reinhard is really lucky to have her as his wife.
3. Yang and Mittermeyer - Mittermeyer because he is a really good general and Yang because of his brilliance.

Well for starters I've got a thing for cute shotaro boys but then he comes into his own and is awesome. And joins the Rosenritters for a while, that's gotta count for something
2) Yang Wen-li
This is a no-brainer, he's just so laid back but he's also brilliant, which I like, and a slacker at heart, which is also cool. And he lets everyone at his strategy meetings drink.
3) Olivier Poplan
"I never expected the husband to come home!" He's the best comic relief guy in LoGH if you ask me.
4) Bittenfeld
The best comic relief on the Empire side, he's just so full of himself that I kinda like him as a character.
5) Walter von Schenkopp
badass to the nth degree.

So yeah, I overall found the Alliance guys more likable, although I found the Empire politics more interesting, probably because there were less dirtbags behind the scenes.

Simply a great character. Probably the most intelligent one of the series and above that his dedication to democracy without compromise. My favorite character ever.

Besides him I also love Schenkopp, Attenborough, Reuental, Oberstein, Poplan, Kircheis and Reinhard. In no particular order, but Reuental and Attenborough would probably be number 2 and 3 ^^.
I probably regret this post by now.

I don't understand. How can you guys ignore Julian Minci? This guy is like the embodiment of what Wenli and Reinhard could never be. Yang is a man that denies fate. Reinhard on the other hand lives it too willfully (or lives to change it too willfully). Julian is the character that lives above fate. He is both observer and participant, and neither subject to fate's pull nor pushes it away. He is the one character in this series that is truly 'free'. Isn't that just fascinating? The whole series was about what Julian is to become/becomes. He's got to be the most interesting! :D

Gotta go with Reinhard. I know it's a bit lame to choose a protagonist, but hey, I like him more than anyone else. (Yang Wenli coming in at a close second, obviously).

Other than that, I really liked Oberstein. Gotta love how the one guy everyone trusted the least ended up being the most loyal.
