| I have a question, what exactly do single people feel when people watch these type of animes. Observation: I've noticed the majority of people who are dating aren't really bothered by it much, but a vast amount of single people on the other hand have an odd love/hate relationship with it. (Simplified to avoid unnecessary confusion 3/14/12) I want to understand the psychology of it all so being honest is key. |

| I am single and my favorite genre is romance. I actually enjoy it more compared to when I did have a girlfriend because now I can watch Anime whenever I want! :( |

| ive always liked it because i think its a great plot device to develope characters past points they never could get to, my love for romance has stayed the same throughout me being single to being with someone to being just dumped. |

| Romance genres in general have been more enjoyable when watched with your lover(s). All cuddled up together in the couch with a soft fluffy blanket across everyone while the PC is connected to the HD TV, watching anime like Lovely Complex (too bad this one's not available in 720p atm) straight from start to finish is an enjoyable experience :]. For those who've seen that series, that show in particular was one I could relate to being short compared to my girls (they're 6'0 ft, which is uber tall for women). I can definitely say it was more enjoyable than whenever I watched that genre during the times I was single. |

| Well I watch Romance films and I'm not really bothered by it, So I guess it applies the same to anime, in fact I enjoy it! I don't really compare my IRL situation to anime :O Plus it can probably help me a bit in the future by watching romance series |

| Romance animu has always been my favorite. I just like romance and the plot is generally preferable. Even when I am seeing someone, it is nice to be immersed in someone elses love story because it is just cute and feels nice I guess? |

| Romance animes are the most exciting to watch, and at the same time, the most disappointing. A really well done romance anime can take your breath away, but you have to approach such a thing with caution. Never mind the fact that the majority of anime resembles the rotting shit of a bird, but can you imagine how bad a group of mentally prepubescent, 40-year old asian men could screw up something so delicate and beautiful as a romance story? Okay, I really do love romance stories, and maybe it's because I've never been able to truly experience romance myself, but when it really comes down to it, people like to warp what could be beautiful into something trivializing. |

| I neither love nor hate romances particularly. I don't know why I watch them really, I do enjoy a good romance, though I'm not quite sure why, I don't think I identify with the characters, since haven't felt any emotion as innocent and pure as that displayed in romance animes, perhaps there's a little bit inside of me that's survived my cynicism and suspicion of love that grows everyday,that still clings to the naive dream that I perhaps will one day experience true love, and will have a happy existence with a perfect woman who I realized some time ago would never exist in real life. Or it could just be that I like watching changing characters interactions, which is crucial and prevalent in romances. |

Bokura Ga Ita may mislead you like that. It's really just a terrible representation of what having a relationship is like. Anime in general isn't really that great of a comparison to real life, no matter how Seinen or Slice of Life it is. The themes will always be exaggerated. |

| Back in high school and when I never had a boyfriend, watching any romance made me feel lonely. But now, I know that those kind of relationships are exaggerated and just try to enjoy the anime without unreal expectations of how my life should be. |

| Watching anything of the Romance genre doesn't exactly make me yearn to be in a relationship. As for what a single person vs committed(taken?) person feels while viewing said works, I would imagine there wouldn't be much of a difference, save for some kind of impossibly insecure sort of human. My personal thoughts involve asking myself whether I find it entertaining, cause... you know, fictitious stories that have no bearing in reality, therefor I feel no guilt enjoying someone else's hardships/triumphs/humility/etc. yay~ |

| I loved the Romance genre when I was single, but now that I'm in a relationship, I actually appreciate them a lot more and enjoy them in a different light than I ever did. Because of how I can sometimes relate to the characters emotions and actions, whether happy or sad emotions from different situations, I can reflect and sometimes think "I'd react that way too". I am also able to sympathize with those characters more because of this. I enjoy Anime more when I understand characters on a deeper level, so it's untrue how you say people who are dating enjoy them less, because I personally enjoy them much more. And when I was single, the Romance genre appealed to me probably mostly because generally, it often does interest the female audience. It's cutesy, and can sometimes give you that warm and butterfly feeling that you can't often get from other genres. |
| I like them, just makes me believe in my fairytale even more than some perfect girl for me is out there. Of course that isn't true, but hey! at least I can keep dreaming with them. |

I have been married the entire time I have been liking anime since the mid 90s, so I guess I can't really relate to experiencing it as a single person. I do recall hating a lot of romancy stuff a long time ago when I was single though. Always hated having it shoved in my face I think. I guess that is just an illustration of jealousy. |

I mean, I guess I could understand if the person they are with enjoy something and you'd find a new love for that thing because they introduced you to it, but that's not even what you're asking.. It sounds like you're making all single people out to be a bunch of bitter forever alones. I don't even get the question tbh. I'm single. I've been single for most of my life but that doesn't mean that I don't like romance in my anime/any other media. Sure, I'm not a big fan of romcoms and those ~epic love stories where love is the most ~powerful thing in universe but I still enjoy some romance and relationship drama. |

| I watch fantasy/supernatural series because I know it can't happen in real life. Using that logic, I watch romance series because.... ah... /emocorner. Lol, anyways, I've never had an overall issue with any romance Anime I've watched. |
| When I'm single I still watch romance anime because they're cute. But I'm not constantly pining for a relationship or anything in the instances I am single, which isn't very often anyways. |
