Full Metal Alchemist Nina's death as a quimera :( it was the saddest moment I've ever seen on an anime show, and the seiyuu's voice made it even sadder, calling her dad 'otosan' :'( that episode was the one that hooked me into FMA and since then couldnt stop watching it Elfen Lied the ending, with Mariko and her dad dying on that explosion, it was really sad :( it had a huge impact to me... Dragon Ball GT the very end of this show, when they show several scenes from all the DB series, couldnt stop crying like a baby |

I don't know that I have a single moment I consider the "saddest," so I'll just list a few that have actually made me cry, or at least feel very emotional: Sailor Moon S: Sailor Neptune sacrificing herself to protect her partner, Sailor Uranus. She is shot multiple times, but she forces herself to stand and continue walking towards the enemy, Eudial. Eudial delivers the final blow that extracts the talisman from her body and kills her immediately while Uranus watches in horror. A flashback of Michiru (Neptune) smiling gently, holding Haruka (Uranus)'s hand is shown in a sepia tone. When Eudial is gone, Sailor Uranus takes her weapon and uses it to extract her own weapon, killing herself in the process. The music playing in this scene is a sad, classical-sounding piano piece that suits them perfectly. Of any scene from any anime series, I've probably seen this one the most. I think it made me cry the first time I saw it. Sailor Moon Sailor Stars: Yeah, this is one of the series that cops out and brings the characters back to life. It does sort of take away from the emotional impact of any death scene, but even so- Sailor Neptune and Sailor Uranus' second death was also quite emotional. They attempt to trick their enemy (Galaxia) and fail, causing them to literally fade away and die. As they lie on the ground dying, they struggle to reach for each other, to hold hands one last time. Naruto: The Third Hokage's funeral was pretty emotional, I thought. I think a large part of it for me was the song playing - I love that song. There's plenty of other very emotional scenes that I can recall from Naruto, as well: Sasuke sacrificing his life to protect Naruto (even though we discover later that he didn't actually die), Zabuza's death, and the aftermath of the fight at Valley of the End are examples that immediately come to mind. Black Butler II: Note: Video is an AMV, but it does include most of the scenes mentioned. If I had to pick a single anime moment that I found the saddest -- this probably wouldn't be it. Nevertheless, Alois' backstory is kind of heart-wrenching. The poor kid loses parents, then his beloved younger brother, is abducted, and then essentially forced to become a child sex slave to a lecherous old man. I also felt sorry for him when he expresses his love for Claude, and as he thinks his feelings are going to be returned - Claude kills him. His story is perhaps the saddest and most disturbing of any anime character that I can recall. Hikaru no Go: If you've seen Hikaru no Go, I'm sure you know what I am referring to. Sai's death was really sad to me. In fact, watching it for the third time recently, I still felt like I was about to cry. What makes it even more terrible is that he disappears when Hikaru is sleeping, so they don't have a chance to say goodbye. When Hikaru wakes up and Sai isn't there, he is confused, and then concerned. His emotions shift from anxiety, to desperation, to complete and utter desolation. He even decides to give up go, his newly discovered passion and purpose in life, in the hope that it will bring Sai back to him. It is really Sai's disappearance and the impact that it has on Hikaru that makes the series for me. It was a great series until then, but the emotional turmoil and eventual catharsis that Hikaru experiences is what makes it truly unforgettable for me. Revolutionary Girl Utena: Note: Video has Spanish subs with the original Japanese audio track, but the only other one I could find was an Italian dub. I figured this was the better choice of the two. When Anthy stabs Utena in the back - literally. I was really shocked by the betrayal when I first watched it. Anthy tells her that Utena could never have become her prince, because she's a girl, but thanks her for giving her a taste of true friendship. Even after this, Utena still attempts to save Anthy - she tries to pry the Rose Gate open until her hands bleed. She ends up succeeding, but her hand slips from Anthy's and she falls in the process. She disappears from Ohtori, and everyone seems to have forgotten that she ever existed, including her best friend. It ends on a hopeful note, with a free and assertive Anthy leaving to find her, but the betrayal was really sad. |

Legend of the Galactic Heroes The spoiler-tag concerns episodes near the ending, so don't click if you haven't seen all the episodes: When Reuenthal was dying, that was probably the saddest moment in the show to me. The scene where he poured up an extra glass for Mittermeyer while waiting for him really got to me. =( Of course episode 82 and 110 were very sad as well, but Reuenthals death takes the prize for me. Grave of the fireflies Yeah, the ending of course. But I atually found the beginning more sad when I rewatched it after having seen the ending. When that cleaner guy threw away the caramel box, and when they sat next to each other on the train and so on, it was really sad. And I agree with AnnoKano, asking people to use spoiler tags just to completely disregard that yourself is kind of ironic. |

I'm not even a huge FMA fan and I'll admit that the death of Maes Hughes In Steins;Gate episode 12 at the end (if you've seen it, you know). I identify quite a bit with the main character, so seeing his reaction to what happened was heart-wrenching. |

Code Geass R2 Ofcourse Lelouch's End. You can debate all you want if he's alive or dead but you can't take away the true meaning of that scene. The only bit of happiness I felt was Seeing Orange-Kun picking oranges with Anya in the end(LoL) I respect Lelouch Lamperouge. A tragic hero. |

Seeing Marie Antoinette with grey hair and having her children taken from her was grim too Mushishi Alot of Mushishi eps are quite bittersweet, but the most painful to watch was Sunrise Serpent, where the mother would lose more of her memory every day, to the point where she was close to forgetting her son Kinos Journey The last episode with the "Kind Land" and the little girl. Bleak... Will second the above FMA, Bebop etc examples too |

Code Geass R2 When Rolo died I love this character so much it was hella depressing when he died. He was the only one who stayed by Lelouch's side until the end. Too bad Lelouch was a douchebag the entire series towards him even after all the stuff he did for him. Stupid dumbass tried to blow him up imo cookie cutter mary sue shitty love interest character Shirley doesn't deserve to be avenged. Lelouch even yelled at him. Yet he still stayed by his side and died for him thats true loyalty right there. It made it even more sad when Hitomi's song playing in the background. Still if he had to die this is the way I would want him to go not over something fucking retarded as Lelouch avenging that trash Shirley Togainu no Chi When I thought Keisuke was going to die the first time and when he actually did. Although it would have been sadder if it was more well played instead of just out of the blue then again the whole anime was a mess. Clannad Well a lot of scenes mostly in After Story the only part that gets me in the first season is when the BGM "Ana" is playing in the background at Fuuko's Sister's wedding and she gave her a starfish and disappeared for a couple episodes. T_T Angel Beats A lot of scenes did, but mostly everyones pasts that were explored and the last episode got me. Dx 07 Ghost Mikage's death and when Mikage's reincarnation Burupya cheered up Teito in the next episode. Basically any Mikage flashback in the anime made me sad. there is probably more than that, but these are the ones that stick out in my mind the most. |

For me it have to be The end of AnoHana When they read the different diary pages and everything after that. "Menma we found you!" ; w ; Clannad after story episode 16 Nagisa's death of course And the most saddest of them all the end of Code Geass r2 "destory... worlds... create worlds..." and then that insanely sad soundtrack start playing, and Nunnaly starts to cry, and I start to cry and it's so sad ; ^ ; |

Grave of the Fireflies Just the whole damn movie was sad Cowboy Bebop The music when Spike dies was really fitting Death Note Though how expected it was it was sad when L died. Scenes that got me emotional were... Legend of the Galactic Heroes Ep 26-When Kircheis dies in Reinhard's arms, Kircheis was taken away from the series way too soon for me, I loved his character so much. Mobile Fighter G-Gundam Eps. 44 & 45, Domon Kasshu loses two of the most important people in his life, his older brother Kyoji/Schwarz Bruder and his mentor Master Asia, practically in the same day. Rose of Versailles So soon after Oscar returns her feelings for Andre, the lovers are tragically killed, first Andre followed by his beloved Oscar. Rurouni Kenshin Tsuiokuhen The tragic end to Kenshin and Tomoe's relationship when Tomoe lays dying in Kenshin's arms after she sacrifices herself to protect him. AIR The tragic fates of Kanna and Misuzu, so sad. Kanon Makoto's disappearance, what happened to Ayu-chan after she fell from the tree, Akiko being hit by a car, and Nayuki's breakdown. |

Kenshin - Tsuiokuhen pretty much what the post above me said. Tomoe sacrificing herself for the sake of Kenshin Now and then, here and there Sala getting repeatedly and brutally raped by soldiers and guards at Hellywood fortress only to find out later, that she's been impregnated. There's a lot of violence, harassment and the like in anime in general, but that topped everything in my opinion. Started watching that anime with a completely different mindset and wasn't expecting that kind of story. |

Concerning angel beats. (critical spoilers!) this series got me 3 times. first when Iwasawa disappeared, next when Yui disappeared and the third time when Kanade disappeared.. yet when everybody else disappeared it really felt like trolling.. i mean they made these fancy, dramatic endings for those people but all the other ones were just tossed aside.. :( i wish they would've at lease MADE an ending for the rest too, not just "ahh they all left already". and yeah.. they would've made it alot more catchy if they went more in depth with all the other characters and perhaps made the series up to 24 ep's. |

Saddest moments Clannad: Of course, there's is Nagisa and Ushio's death. Also, when Fuuko disappears. One of the saddest moments is also when you hear what happened to the Ichinose family. Kanon When Makoto disappears is sad. When you hear what happened to Akiko, you cant help feeling sad also. AIR Do I really need an explanation? The movie was sadder than the anime IMO. Kanna and her mother really saddened me. Elfen Lied seconding the above mention of father and daughter\ Chrno Crusade the ending TTGL is also sad for a lot of people. |

Two more adds from me c: The end of Angel beats The ending when Otonashi said that he loved Kanade came as a surprise on me and it was so touching, I do feel that it's a bit wrong to call it sad because it were happy since they met each other in their next life, so it was more touching. Nana, it's a lot of sad scenes in nana but it' one I remember the most. When the first strawberry glass breaks and then Nana breaks the other on purpose and baaaah that scene ; ~ ; |

Also episode 24: Before the graduation ceremony, with Happy Rainy Day playing in the background, and Azusa just looks at Yui, Mio, Ritsu, & Mugi talking to each other, gawww so depressing The events themselves weren't horribly depressing, but those episodes just made me remember all the good times I had with K-ON!!, and I didn't wanna say good bye to it Anohana...most of those episodes yeah |
