xsushinamix said: True they could check out p**n as long as they don't get addicted, that would be detrimental.wow yall have very old standards if my kid wanted to watch p*rn at 12 he can.... so it goes without saying he can watch anime before 18 every kid goes through puberty and dont lie and say you didnt watch p*rn at least once before you're 18 dont take away that freedom... ok it technically isnt made for kids under 18 but you guys dont understand how important it is to find things out ab your sexual preferences. plus it is very healthy for teenagers to get to understand everything. that way they can educate themself (i dont mean educate from porn, but shit like how s*x works and shit, how to wear a codom, what is a menstrual cycle.... even if you're a boy i think its important to get to know things about the puberty of the other sex...) plus letting kids not watch anime is like letting your kid not playing games... you cant hold their hands for the rest of their life you should let them find out their own boundaries and shit (eventually guiding them) but this is very important because multiple studies show if you ban something in your household they are more likely to try what you banned and this is not just a study its scientiffically proven on top of that.... when you become 18 you start having loads of other responsibilities maybe you go to college, or you start working i started having less and less free time and to this day im starting to watch less and less anime not only do you start having these responsibilities you also have to try to be more social, because social skills will easilly help you a lot in the coming years if you're holed up in your house constantly when you have free time just to watch anime and just avoid social situatons you're only making your life harder i know mental health plays a big role and yes i get it, you dont have to go outside and meet loads of ppl but getting a reliable friend with whom you could call/ talk helps a lot even if its 1 evening in your week and this takes time away from anime i dont discourage watching anime over 18 (im doing the exact thing) but i only want you ppl to think that its very hindering and you dont rlly have the time to watch a lot of anime so let your kids watch anime at a young age if they dont want to, dont force it on them |

I'd do what my dad did with western media, start with things that I believe should be watched at that age and then open it up more and more. For example I was 14 when my father took me to go see Atomic Blonde in theatres, and it's understandable why. With something that deals with heavy amounts of psychological pain I would wait until my kids were at least 15 (since that's about the time I watched Re:Zero) to start watching things like Re:Zero, Neon Genesis Evangelion, etc. However when they are say 8 I'd let them watch MHA, Pokemon, YuGiOh, etc. About 12 would be stuff like Fate/Zero (Or Stay/Night), as well as JoJos, Devil is a Part Timer, some other kind of isekai, etc. It all depends on how I feel when I do have kids, which is far far in the future (as I'm not even 18 for another couple weeks). |

Not sure I plan on having any, but I'd definitely let them watch anime. I'd probably start them out on Studio Ghibli movies because they're classic and also not *too* anime-like, if you catch my drift. From there I'd probably show them some harmless shounen anime and let them take their own initiative on whether they want to delve deeper or not. I've been watching anime since I was probably 9 and it wasn't all super appropriate but honestly, part of being young is stumbling across shit you're not really supposed to see. It's not going to screw them up for life if they end up watching Hellsing Ultimate or OreImo (hopefully they are spared from the latter just due to how terrible it is though). |

I watched anime that I really shouldn't have growing up as a 90s kid and watching anime since the 90s, I'd trust my kid enough to know what is and isn't okay when he/she accidentally stumbles on those kinds of shows. I'll most likely be his/her source for anime up until they're 13 as I don't plan on getting them their own computer till then, so it won't be hard for me to just get them anime that I know is safe for them. If they're 13 and suddenly stumble upon an ecchi anime, they can do what they want with that, at that point they're slowly coming up to becoming a young adult, and me attempting to stop that would most likely cause more issues than it'd solve. |

I don't have children and will never have children, but I certainly would. It wasn't anime for me as I didn't start watching it until my 20s, but I was watching many explicit and graphic horror films as well as American adult/late night comedies and cartoons with foul language and sexually provocative content like South Park and such when I was 9 - 10 years-old. I think if anything it only expanded my mind and experiences and I don't regret it one bit. It depends on the type of person you are. In my case my parents did attempt to restrict some of it early on; I was just persistent and not very obedient. Some people don't like to have what content they can have access to so rigidly dictated by age. It's why I could and would watch and enjoy 80s slasher films, adult-targeted comedies and such as a late elementary schooler and why I could and would watch and enjoy early childhood educational cartoons at 25 or 30. Some people don't link or allow to be linked all of their interests, wants, and mental processes and personality to their biological age. I could appreciate many things I would probably thoroughly enjoy and derive a lot of value and satisfaction from when I was 10 years-old and that didn't just change - I still liked many of those same things when I was 12 or 15 or 17 or 21 or 23 or 26. People give too much credence to age and then try to fit everyone inside these narrow boxes governing cultural behavior of what is and isn't appropriate based on it. In some cases it makes more sense for safety reasons, like a 6 year-old shouldn't be legally permitted to drive a car, drink whisky, or have sex, but art and media is the safest realm and canvas for the purest and freest exploration and growth of the mind and spirit while minimizing actual direct physical real world consequences to the individual. Some people are fine without that outlet perhaps, but some desperately need it and will obtain it with their own hands if need be. It's a fruitless struggle to try to so dogmatically restrict content to those types of kids. I know it well since I was one of them. |

Well, I don't have kids. And I'm 34. Don't really want them either. I'm happy with being an auntie to my 3 nieces and nephew. My eldest niece is 12 and she's watched some anime. With me. My sister doesn't care. |

Sure why not. I don't see a point in delaying inevitable experiences if they really wanted to watch anime. If I do end up banning anime from their childhood and it's not something they wanted, they'll probably just rebel and find a way to watch it somehow. |

I would watch anime with him, complaining the whole time about how his taste is shit, and tell him his waifu is a whore. No, but really, I'd say around 13, is where I would loosen the reigns a little bit, in regards to what they watch. I would rather my kid watch anime, than spend any amount of time on social media. |

My kids are gonna grow up watching K-On, and if they don't like it, then it's off to Mount Olympus. I'm kidding, of course. If it's something I'm passionate about, then I'd at least like to encourage them to try it, and if it's not for them, then it's fair enough. I also wouldn't want them to be exposed to... "mature themes" really early on, like I was (pretty easy to get fucked up when you're playing Mortal Kombat at the age of 5), so I'd monitor what they watch. |
Sep 13, 2021 6:32 AM

Of course. There are a ton of kid-friendly anime out there, and the vast majority of anime's geared towards teenagers anyway. Plus, as far as I'm concerned, most people are mature enough to watch pretty much anything by the time they're 16. |

Depends on the content, I guess that works for everything. I wouldn't like my children using the internet and consuming this kind of stuff freely, without supervision. But I would surely indicate some good things for them to watch and read. |

At an early age? Nah. They're getting 4KIDz'd. Or at least, something child friendly. Concerning teenagers and young adults; as they get older and branch out, I don't have much control over the content they view. So, at that point, they're gunna learn the hard way. lol |

If I catch my children watching something inappropriate for their age or something questionable in general, in a place where I could easily notice it, then I would obviously talk with them about it. But generally, if they don't display any unhealthy tendencies or neglect other aspects of their life, then I won't pry further into what they're consuming. That's at least how I feel about it now, having a child gotta change everything. Just kidding, if I find out my son has waifu/my daughter is a fujo, I'm gonna introduce them to my belt. |
