Would've preferred it if they'd actually killed off a bunch of characters too. Crona and Shinigami could quite easily have been killed off properly without any actual consequence to the following events since they didn't do anything. Excalibur had absolutely no reason to be in the series aside from being annoying.

The entire not understanding = fearing thing could've been handled in a better way I reckon, and it would've been totally awesome if Maka had finished the Kishin off after confusing him with her weapon form rather than just a basic punch. Also sucks that the entire series and the genre itself is so often about working together as a team which is essentially forgotten in the final fight, not to mention the whole initiation sequence to become a deathscythe also being forgotten after around episode 15 or so.

Still, that scream and crunch when he was crushing Maka's chest sounded rather nasty, it actually surprised me a little to see something like that in this show.

well. I just finished the anime, and i have to say, SE is one of the most entertaning animes i have ever seen. But of course, when animes have their last episode. i always fear about over it. and this episode... I dont really know, i guess i l knew somthing like this would have happend but still.. i was actully more dissepointed over that no one of the good guys died. (yes, i do sound evil right now xD) i mean, its more.. emotional if somones dies, and in war, Agianst a Demon god, very likely.

I mean, they where hit agianst the walll thousands of times. How did somone of them, not die? >___o

Oh well >__> the episode was still entertaing, and from episode 49-51, the whole Maka inside Soul was the most awesome part for some reason 8D and i was kind of happy that Maka was the one who... sigh.. Killed the Demon god, got kind of annoyed over black star XD i mean; saying "IM THA BEEEEST SO UR USLESS" is kind of like.. an ass D:

Still, Soul eater had very intresting charekters and will be an anime i will remember. And guys, its what happend in ALL the episodes that makes it a good series, not just the last episode. We all knew the good guys had to win. XD

Sorry. This episode gave me Evangelion flash backs. But hey, if you're gonna rip something off, might as well rip something awesome.

I actually liked this episode. Anime conclusions are often disappointing, but this one wasn't all that bad. I'm fine with a little heart of the cards in my shounen anime.

Besides, the part with Maka turning into a weapon owned. For the few of you who didn't get that, it's because she's the child of a meister and a WEAPON, so she's got some weapon blood. Kid, Black Star, and Maka all got their time to shine, and I think it worked well. Not to mention the whole "You are afraid" thing they ripped from Eva. It was awesome in Eva, and it was awesome here. And hey, at least no one turned into orange tang.

I agree with the most, obviously!! Courage -.-, an insane person wouldn't care about that, it would only kill you with the worst pain you can feel, because its fun!!
I mean c'mon why couldn't they make it like this, that they kill him with the Kinshin-Hunt (which would make sense)! It should ended there and everything would be fine!

but the ending ....

LAME -.-"
what with that insanity engulfing demon god. you are afraid... you are afraid... you are afraid... you are afraid... you are afraid... you are afraid... you are afraid... you are afraid... you are afraid... you are afraid... and then one punch of courage
*kishin dead*
i swear that was the worst way to end this series.

Well, I thought the whole courage thing was very cliche, but what can we do? ¬¬"
I was expecting more from such a great series, but I guess shounen series usually end up the same way.
It could have been worse, they could really have used the "friendship kicks ass, you can't beat us even if your power is 1000x more than ours" ending. So it wasn't so bad.

But really, that had me thinking something like:
Asura: 5/99999 HP
Maka does 5 damage with a punch *Asura dies*
Ah... I've been playing too much games lately. x3

I was expecting some sort of teamwork resolution, that would've been fitting if also cliche. I didn't really like that it was her alone. I also missed a super saiyan transformation for BS, just like Kid had. I guess they counted his Mifune fight transformation as his highest level; I was hoping for more given he's my favorite character.

Agree that courage was a little lame. If they were going to end it with just her, the weapon transformation was cooler.

Still iffy about the show. I love the art style, love a lot of the characters, and yet for I wanted it to be more engaging.

Cliched yeah but I loved the last few action scenes.
Ending could've been more conclusive though.
I wish they'd kept Maka as a weapon.

Oh well, not as disappointing as I thought I would be after I pulled it out of the year long hiatus.

... Wow... umm so I actually thought that final punch was badass especially timed with the music and when Maka ran between the two cloth-arms. But All in all am disappointed that courage killed the Kishin. I feel like it was a cop out, I don't know it was just unsatisfying.

I would have prefered to see Crona do some epic fighting and also have Maka used her weird weapon form to kill the Kishin. I kinda hated the idea that there were many enemies weaker then the Kishin that beat Maka, and all Maka needed do was punch them all D:

Well finished the show. And I'm not going to rate it down or anything because of the ending. I mean yeah it was kinda lame but the show was just to epic for me to care that much. I love how the did the ending credits to it was enjoyable and the song went well with it. So 10/10 ^0^ And I was happy that Medusa was still alive in the credits. Yeah I liked all the evil characters and when people went insane. Hear there probably gonna make a second season to! Well now on to the manga.

Sorry, I just have to say that was I the ONLY one who saw the ending this way?:

Maka knew that she was no match for kishin, but then put on a gamble and say pretty much to everything "f*** it!". Then she took her treasured memory of her mother and became fearless.

This way, our child-like coward kishin, was shocked, because he could see that the fear that was there, weren't there anymore, so he was certain that Maka had something on her mind.

Well, this particular turn of events put kishin to act like the coward-child which he was, and Maka got him, because he was afraid, of the unknown (which ironically was piece of paper).

So, the way I see it, kishin's fear was the one that took him out, combined with Maka's courage ('cos she had the courage not to fear).

As closure, yes, that could have been better, but at least I, (with my way of thinking ^) was satisfied with this original ending, that no shonen that I have seen, have had.

Hopefully that makes any sense :D :D

So, wait. I'm confused. Did Maka know she was a weapon? I couldn't understand if she did or not. When she was talking to Kishin after waking up, it's almost as if she knew about it... and then he called her an idiot.

Quote: "I don't have this power because I want it. I felt I had to master it in order to keep the grown-ups from criticizing me, but I guess I'm not very good at that sort of thing to be honest."

Is she talking about her being a meister and the Anti-Demon Wavelength? Or being a weapon?

I guess the Anti-Demon Wavelength makes more sense since they were expecting her to beat him with that.

But anyways... WTF was up with her being a weapon? What? Huh? What was the point of dragging in that little bit and not going anywhere with it? It wasn't a factor in the final outcome... it had nothing to do with her being able to defeat him. It was just there, a random plot point that would never be explained.

WHY DO YOU THROW SUCH BULLCRAP LIKE THAT IN?!!!

It's like, they want to show how she has so many special powers and abilities, but in the end none of them matter because all it takes is courage and a good punch to beat the bad guy. Which I agree is important (courage that is), but seriously? Why did her courage win out in the end? Why not everyone else's? Is it because it's the only ability she can use well? Is this a message of how even the most normal of people can beat their demons... that all it takes is heart?

Corny! Corny is what it is! Corny and stupid and simple, but I guess that explains what Maka is supposed to represent in the end.

I can see the message. I just dislike how it's told... ramming it down my throat with such straightforwardness and doing it in such a corny way. Why do you treat us like children in order to get a message across... especially since only just a few episodes earlier you were trying to amaze us with your "deep" philosophies and gabber goop? I guess, in the end, thinking about things too hard is pointless, or so the message goes. Because all answers are simple.

I just... wow, I'm too flabbergasted to really make a judgment call on this. The first 26 episodes of the series were awesome (other than episode 17). But the series went to pot after that with good moments only coming in spurts (good, not great).

I'm giving it an 8/10, just because the first half was so great. Besides, I can just watch that and then skip to the manga and accept what's going on there (I just hope it doesn't end up being quite so corny).

Ok, I've finished this a while back but I just had to comment on the ending.

To speak the truth, the last 10 or so (I don't remember) episodes were kinda bad... The pacing was crap, a walking city was like "what?" and everyone was acting foolish. Besides, all the suspicions Death The Kid had, all that "don't trust the academy" thing and all his investigation was completely worthless in the end since the shinigami just gave a stupid reason for them not to tell them anything. If it was going to be like that, why build that plot line way up just to drop it like that? What about Medusa's plan? She just died like that after pulling off such a genius move and we never get to know what her plan really was...

And so, this is how all my anger about the last few episodes is thrown right here.

Now, about the ending... That was different. I didn't dislike it. If you think about it, it kinda made sense. But don't worry, I'll explain my point.

The kishin was completely crazy, I guess everyone knows that. His greatest fear was fear itself. All the time he was closed up in his own skin bellow the academy was spent idealizing a way to get rid of fear. And has he explained, he came to the conclusion that it was to block his imagination from working. He felt superior to everyone because he no more felt fear while everyone was so scared of him. So you can say he fed himself on people's fear.

When Maka's courage surpassed her fear, the kishin ideas, the line of thought he spent so much time creating just crashed down on the top of his head. How could it be that something so abstract and simple could overcome fear? That made him confuse. That made him afraid. I don't think Maka's punch had anything to do with the kishin's defeat. While watching the episode I never thought she was gonna punch him. I thought she was just gonna stand there and talk and he would just... disappear or something... But that would be kinda wired. And the punch scene was just aesthetically pleasing so I don't have any complaints.

I actually liked the final episode, I just hated all the plot holes they left behind and all the plot lines that were built way up and then dropped just like that...

i liked it all part from the end. I thought it was gonna be a cool show down with Soul and Maka using demon hunter, and i was right.. i shoulda just stoped it there and said to myself, it died from that.. the end but meh. Shinigami hitting him with a kshin hunter does nothing but a fist filled with courage kills him?!

I get what they were trying to convay but they could have easily put the point across without it being so lame. Ah well, was an awesome seriess minus the last 10 mins!

WTF?!

Worst ending EVER!

Seriously, courage power? Maka is now a super-ultra-mega-powerful girl and turned the show into MAKA EATER.

When Asura cracked, I was almost throwing up... I mean, you could kill the demon king in so many ways, but with the 'power of courage' added to a 'punch' in simply a big 'no, no' to me.

And the end of the last episode was also a big disappointment. Simply a traumatic and terrible ending for such a good show, I just hope that the manga has a better ending.

I'm in total agreement. Usually I'm that one guy on MAL who doesn't think the endings are corny, but this was... void of all badassness. Seriously, no one else with courage has fought the death god? Wait a second, GOD? So if someone is brave enough, they can defeat a god? Boring.

Asura cracked so freaking easily, incredibly dumb and boring. They had portrayed him as a logical guy until then, this totally broke the flow. And then they played the ED I hate at the end... MEEEHHHHH

I had to drop Soul Eater a point for this horrible ending. The rest of the show was fun, besides Black Star... god forbid I subtract another point for him being more fucking annoying than the Orange Jumpsuit Man himself (I'm looking at you, Narutards). 8/10

I'm just going to be babbling and spitting out anything that comes to mind here concerning Episode 51, so try not to take offense to anything I write.

I half disliked and half liked the ending.
Okay, for those of you that said that Maka turning into a weapon didn't make sense...when you think about it, it sort of did. Spirit after all is Maka's father and so the idea of her having weapon blood in her makes complete sense.

I disliked however how Maka defeated him with "her courage", which seems to be the reoccurring thought in everyone's mind here. Also, something that ties in with that, I was sick of seeing Maka always being the "hero" in the bigger more important fights. I know she's like the main character and everything, but SERIOUSLY?! It's like at the end of the day, all of that soul resonance and Death Cannons and "Tsubaki: Enchanted Sword Mode"s didn't really matter because at the end of all of it, they're (Kid and Black*Star) just going to be defeated and Maka and Soul will save the day...again. (With her COURAGE no less.) I would have much preferred if they had defeated the Kishin as a team.

Furthermore, how in Hell was Maka able to beat what the "most powerful meister in the world" couldn't? Although, I did look over that for the time being because he was defeated protecting Kid. I shouldn't be surprised though; this is how all Shounen is. They make the most unbelievable shit happen to force the main character/hero to come out on top. By forcing stuff to happen like that it makes it all seem completely unbelievable, cliche, and stupid.

Secondly, I remember reading that someone had said this before but, I'll reiterate: Towards the end, the Kishin was too OOC. When he started freaking out and yelling I just skipped over it. It was too annoying. That wasn't how I pictured the Kishin to be. But of course, I always have a set image in mind for an antagonist and his little "0101000101010101" robotic, binary code-like temper tantrum wasn't it. I always imagine antagonists to be calm, cool, and collected at ALL TIMES. i.e. Medusa. All I could think the whole time was, "Dude. Chill." It's like "Kishin break down is to the stereotypes attached to Killer Bee from Naruto". They went too far with it.

I also found some elements of the last 5 episodes to be predictable but I won't go into that.

I did feel that the end was rushed a little though. I wanted to see how everyone's lives played out after the battle with the Kishin (not just be shown clips of it in the credits).

After all of this you might think that I must really hate Soul Eater, but that's not true. It's one of my favorites. I laughed a lot because of this show and it lifted my spirit on days that my spirit needed lifting. I love all of the characters and how each of them aren't just a copy of the next; they all have distinct personalities. I also enjoyed seeing the racial diversities of the characters. I have no doubt that when I read the manga I will enjoy it just as much, if not more than the anime!

I did however understand the don't understand?=afraid thing. It's a reoccurring theme in shows, animes, movies, etc. People fear what they don't understand.
I could sort of make sense of the symbolism at the end (or, the "not so glaringly obvious message" at the end).
Asura did not understand bravery, as he has never known anything but fear. Maka's (as the anime seemed to point out NUMEROUS times in the episode) greatest strength was bravery and therefore: Kishin not understanding Maka's bravery= Asura's fear of her. Finally, his fear weakened him and left him vulnerable to attack. In the end, no matter how much of his imagination he eliminated or how much fear and chaos he spread around the world, nothing could prevent his cowardice--his own fear. I know someone mentioned this earlier, and I do not remember their user name but: Asura's defeat probably wasn't just Maka's "Courageous Falcon Punch" it was probably also his fear of coming into contact with bravery---with Maka, the person he didn't understand. That could be supported with the fact that towards the end of the battle he repeated over and over "What are you? What are you?!" I think, in some way, (as another person I think stated also) what ultimately defeated him was his fear. Maka just sped up the process.

I still think the episode was lame though and a bad example for a finale. It reminded me too much of how a Naruto arc would end, with Naruto saying some profound speech and the killing the enemy in some basic ass, boring way.

I do pretty much agree with almost everything cellist_anime said. I was already a bit annoyed by Maka saving the day again, but this time it was really just... weird. I mean, she's even stronger than Shinigami & Death the Kid, which means she's stronger than the Gods. Yeah, ehm... whatever man. o_0 This just doesn't make sense. I have something with stories that throw realism away, it gets on my nerves.

The ending reminded me a bit of a kid's show with all the crap about courage, although cellist_anime does have a point. But to be honest, I have seen this theme well enough in a lot of stories. A little bit TOO much if you ask me. It's getting boring, I want to see something new. Not saying that emotion isn't important in a story, but this was really over the top...

And what happened with everyone after the battle? I would love to see what happened to all the characters. Or didn't the author of the manga gave the permission for that?

Speaking of the manga, I've heard it is way different than the anime story-wise and if I'm correct it gets a timeskip somewhere in volume 15 or-what, so I guess it's better if I checked it out. Actually, I think it's better if everyone who was disappointed with this ending checked it out. Soul Eater deserves a MUCH better ending and story than this and I'll hope the manga proves this. This ending was just... just... too unsymmetrical. Yeah, that's it.

After what Dusk252 said and thinking about it, I can forgive the "defeated with a fist wrapped in courage" thing.

However, I wasn't looking for it, but I'm pretty sure there was NO FREAKING HINT of her being a weapon. I mean... why? What purpose did it serve? All that plot point did was waste time that could have been better spent making a better ending and telling us what happened to everyone.

I have been wanting to read the manga for a while because I've felt this series was getting rushed since before the first season was over.

I'm still a bit annoyed that I never got to see Kid freak out over the tiny (mute?) lightning/fire twins that turned into gauntlets for... um... whatshisface. PERFECT SYMMETRY! ...What? No one else thinks the manga has that scene? You look me in the eye and tell me Kid didn't see those twins and start drooling over them like a lolicon.

...Wait... What was my point again?

Oh yeah! I just wanted to say that the manga is probably still worth a look after watchign the series... but I'll likely take a break before that. I liked this series... but... I think this is another example of a series being rushed to capitalize on the money it can make without proper thought to the fans or the original material... but I have yet to read the manga, so I could be dead wrong.

I hope not.

okay, so like most of you guys, i thought the kishin getting defeated by the "punch of courage!" was really lame-___-
i am sorry, but it is...i mean i like he idea, courage overcomes fear and all, but sooo lame!D:
and maka, as i watched her throughout the series, my final image of her is...annoying! she is sooo annoying!xO her voice too! she has attitude problems!

it's not a totally good ending but i like it--especially the meaning of it. I agree that Soul doesn't have much of a high light at the end and that's not COOL but making Maka the one who exceeds them all makes me proud to be a girl after all..it's not usual to have a girl being a lead character in a shounen anime right?

overall an excellent series it'd deserve a 9 if it weren't for SH&*^% second half of this anime other than that time well spent

Good series overall, but that ending was lame as hell. She beat him with a punch??? Really?!!?! I demand a re-do.
