Well, this could've been just fun and fireworks but nope, Asako got curious about Hikaru. Or rather, she's more than curious. She seems to know about that Hikaru is not who he really is. Not going, this episode was scary from Hikaru's perspective especially from that confrontation. His true nature is sometimes so unpredictable that it's unreal to think about. |

On today’s episode of doomed yaoi.. the swamp-man thought experiment is a fitting way to open this episode. Essentially, is a clone of a person the same as the original if they have the same memories and appearance? Tbh, to me this is a very simple question and the answer is no. It’s not just raw memories or appearance that make us who we are, it’s our experiences and interactions with others. As Yoshiki’s learns in this episode, ‘Hikaru’ might retain OG Hikaru’s memories, but he’s a completely different person than the boy he fell for. S/O to Cygames because that bug seizing up on the ground followed by the long neck spirit jump scare was the first time I’ve ever actually jumped when watching an anime lol. No one does moody-settings like them. Extremely uncomfortable scene. FINALLY Asako backstory/lore! I been curious about her ever since they went into the forest and it seemed like she can see spirits. Thought she might have some connection to Tanaka and the company, but nope, just seems like a family connection to the supernatural. I gotta give her a ton of credit for confronting who she believed to be a possessed individual alone at night lol. Not the smartest idea and it’s a good thing Yoshiki showed up in time! The fact ‘Hikaru’ was willing to kill her just because she MIGHT be onto him is crazy and shows exactly why I’m right about my swampman thought experiment answer lol No matter what appearances Hikaru might put up, he’s not our OG Hikaru. He hasn’t been raised as a human, he doesn’t appreciate life and how fragile it is nor does he really understand the pain and suffering that people who have lost people feel. Asako dying there would’ve been devastating to her friends and community and it’s just an “oops, my bad” moment for Hikaru which understandably enraged Yoshiki. Not to mention learning that he killed the old lady! Great voice acting from Yoshiki’s seiyuu in that scene to convey all the feelings of disappointment, fear and anger that must have been welling up in him. ‘Hikaru’ is motivated by OG Hikaru’s wish to protect Yoshiki and keep him safe, but he doesn’t really understand WHY Hikaru felt that way and how precious human lives are. I feel like this’ll be a turning point in their relationship. Yoshiki came back, but I think he knows now that ‘Hikaru’ might have to die, and he’s the only one who could do it. |

hate the fact every ep is a countdown till the end of the season im alr suffering by anticipation of the interval I'll face when this season is over and its hurting me deeply. Its just so well written and so well animated, ive read the manga and put it on hold when i heard it was getting animated and boy did i jot regret, they nailed everything, the eeariness, the voice acting, the color pallette. its all amazing and quickly became my favorite show (whis coming from someone who watched way over 1k anime from all possible genres). i spend the whole week with this show on my subconscious, speculating and imagining/directing the scenes, the reactions, and it never fails to deliver, i spend the whole sunday thinking about it and the whole week waiting for sunday, im that invested, 100% hooked |

Another really good episode. Asako got curious about Hikaru, which makes sense of course but she definitely knows that Hikaru is not Hikaru, well at least I think so. But damn that backstory for Asako was really interesting. Hikaru is going to get found out about soon, I already know it. 5/5 |

Yeah episode with Maki appearance, my favorite boy. My hunch tell me that the choir performance will be the highlight of this anime, I get a glimpse of its lyrics and it might reflect the answer? Anyway, regarding the swampman thought experiment, it asks two questions, whether the copy is the same as the original and whether the copy has consciousness. The original text already state that the copy is made out of different molecules so it's obviously different from the original. But it's not quite clear what those different molecules are. That missing information is important to answer whether the copy has consciousness or not, because to have consciousness it has to not only behave in the same way as us but its brain must also be made from the same thing as us, which is carbon-based, not silicon-based like computer chip. Still, it doesn't mean that Hikaru is in the same situation as swampman. |

I like how they chose to end the episode from "Hikaru's" perspective. Now the roles have reversed, and Yoshiki is the one whose intentions are confusing and unclear to the audience (and to "Hikaru"). Overall I mostly liked how they adapted the confrontation with Asako, but I wish they made it creepier (especially the part when "Hikaru" says that "it would be sad if she died, right?" like it's not obvious to him, because it isn't obvious to him xD) Not a fan of the choice of music for the part where Yoshiki interrogates "Hikaru" about everything. It sounds too... peaceful? Like they're trying to soften the blow. I just don't think it fit the scene this time around... Maybe there is some intention behind it, and they're trying to create a specific vibe for the anime audience before the next episode, but it just didn't fit my perception of that scene... EDIT: I think the sound behind the whole sequence should have been either silence interrupted by the cicadas and/or tense, unsettling music. |

It seems that moving the Tanaka scenes earlier has the unfortunate drawback of eventually running out of his scenes to adapt from Volume 3 (which is where the confrontation with Asako happens) So I guess the investigation subplot had to take a break this episode, I'm pretty sure this is the first episode in the season without Tanaka. But honestly originally I though they would run out of those scenes much earlier, so I think they'll get back on track just fine eventually. At least they didn't add meaningless bonus scenes to bridge the gap. |

Asako, safe !! ππ Thank God, Yoshiki was right on time. Hikaru is a ticking time bomb. Yoshiki needs to be right by his side just to keep the number of dead bodies from piling up. So Hikaru/nonuki sees the people for their souls and doesn't find any meaning as to life and death. |

This was my favourite arc (episode?) in the manga, and the whole time I watched the anime, I was worried they might mess this episode. I am so happy that they not only didn't mess it up, but also managed to do an amazing job with it! They skimmed over the Swampman Paradox, which I wish they hadn't, but I guess it's fine. Yoshiki does have a habit of comparing everything to "Hikaru"/Hikaru, including himself. From the start of this episode, they let us know we'll be focussing on Asako and "Hikaru" this time. The way they show it by having Asako return the gym clothes she'd borrowed from him was subtle yet effective, since it helps us understand they're close friends. The friendship is so well written here! The group feel like actual friends with actual chemistry! Everyone went to Hikaru's home in Kubitachi. Here, we can see how close Yoshiki was with Hikaru's family from the way he acts just as much like a host as "Hikaru" does. (maybe more. lol) When Yoshiki opens Hikaru's room, his brain expects a warm room where the boy he loves greets him with a smile. But, upon entering, the warmth is missing. The way the anime showed it made me slightly emotional. I love the way they animated Yoshiki's dad interacting with Kouhei. In the manga, I always shipped them, so it's nice to see the anime also made them shippable. haha Kouhei's voice actor speaks to Yoshiki's dad the same way Hikaru speaks with Yoshiki! I appreciate the director for doing that! Yoshiki has found a very important clue about Hikaru. In the fireworks scene, you can see Asako look at "Hikaru," and smile like she just decided that he isn't dangerous. It broke my heart since i knew what was about to happen to her. Maki's future arc got foreshadowed so naturally! I was shocked! Both Maki and Hikaru have shrines in their homes, but the Japanese words used are different. Hikaru's shrine is Dou (like Indou). Maki's is Hokora. In the manga, I kept wondering about the difference. Here, Maki asks it. I thought we'd get an answer! But nope! We didn't! πππ When "Hikaru" and Asako are walking alone, you can tell they have been friends for a very long time. The scene actually managed to scare me just as much as the manga. That's so rare! In Asako's past, she has been taught not to simply reduce the ghosts as evil. She has learnt to see them as potential friends. This is why I like her. She's like the person in a conservative place who won't immediately judge you, is willing to be your friend, and see you as you are. "Hikaru" almost kills Asako, and goes on to speak so casually; it's unsettling. There is something I have mentioned last time was well, but I really think Yoshiki thinking of "Hikaru" as a child whom he needs to teach to be normal was the wrong conclusion to reach. "Hikaru" is a different being with his own experiences. Yoshiki shouldn't try to change him. Instead, he should help "Hikaru" understand him, while he himself also tries to understand "Hikaru." Anyway, that long necked spirit! I didn't think the anime would actually show it so early on. I am glad the anime let at least this episode be a proper slice-of-life episode. |

This episode shows that you really can't just take Hikaru's imposer as cute little friend. He has totally different life view from normal human-being, and does not hesitate to kill even if you are their supposed "friend" To him killing is not an act of sinful behavior , but only a change of life form. Next episode onward gonna be banger after banger cuz the story would heading to a much serious direction. |

@PettankoLover Yeah right, Hikaru almost murdered his friend and Yoshiki found out about his Murderous tendency, nothing happened totally. (roll eyes) Sometimes it really makes me question do people even watch the same show as me? Guess all they care is cool battle animation with zero plot, then you clearly watching the wrong genre, might as well drop it now. |

Well I guess we are setting the "episodes since fake-Hikaru pissed-off Yoshiki counter" back to zero. The friends playing fireworks scene was great, I wish I had friends to play fireworks with me like that, especially the "I['m at a rave watch me make these things go nuts while speaking English" guy. Slower episode focusing on Asako's perception + past and Hikaru's feelings + impulses. Our emo boy is badly shaken, but still can't let go. Hey, it's ok to be a freaky monster as long as you don't kill off our friends. Or is it...? Street lamp jumpscare at the beginning, beautiful sequence with the fireworks at the end. The daddies truly look and interact just like the kids, and isn't Yoshiki's father fine. |

Was a little slow this week, but I guess that does come off the back of me having binged watched the first 4 episodes. I’m wondering if I should have waited until the full show released before watching it, as I get the the idea that the feeling of slowness might just be because I’m watching it weekly instead of all at once. Still really excited for what’s coming next, and I might have to rewatch this anime once all the episodes are out so that I can get a bigger emotional response |

Day goes as usual until one evening Asako(Yoshiki and Hikaru classmate) calls Hikaru out for being fake. It turns out she is another villager who sees dead people. Hikaru didn't shy from the idea of killing her, but Yoshiki walked close enough to interrupt his friend. For the first time, Yoshiki has doubts about Hikaru's intentions. Asako leaves after clarifying her words, without enough evidence to support her suspicions. Hikaru, during the credits, examines himself and concludes that life is precious. Yoshiki gives his friend a second chance, and ride to school together as before. Good episode with another character added to the supernatural mix. Love how visuals and sound illustrate hot weather and physical state. But would be nice to see more Tanaka ghost hunting next time. |

Man, these last few episodes were so boring; there wasn't much development. So far, I've noticed that the anime doesn't really feel like horror; it's more of a drama about a spirit discovering itself, which is a bit disappointing. I hope that at some point they actually address the mystery more and make it scarier, like in the early episodes. It seems like everything revolves around Hikaru, which somewhat undermines the mystery because so far it feels too juvenile or simple. The episodes throw cliffhangers and subliminal messages, and in the end, they don't reveal or expand on anything, and we're already halfway through the anime. |

Mostly chill episode this time, but you could tell the entire time it was the calm before the storm, but boy did that look like a good time they were having, I have summer memories very similar to what we saw here, staying over at a friend’s house and staying up late into the night. But when it got real, it absolutely got real, did not expect Asako to know about Hikaru being fake, but after seeing a bit of her backstory it makes sense, she’s spiritually sensitive and could tell something was off with Hikaru since the start. But damn Hikaru actually went and tried to kill her, he probably would have actually done it too if it weren’t for Yoshiki showing up, and the fact that Hikaru doesn’t even understand that what he’s doing is bad because of his own perception of life… I understand it from his ghost POV but shit’s still fucked yo. And it was here we found out Hikaru killed that old lady from before, yeah it’s gonna be especially hard to simply chill with him now lol, Yoshiki’s reaction was understandable here, but then he showed up at Hikaru’s house the next day, okay lol, I think they’re definitely gonna have to have a talk tho, can’t have Hikaru thinking he can just kill anybody. Also, I wanted to mention my answer to the swamp man question, they are absolutely two different people, there is no argument imo. And lastly, I just wanted to mention the OP and ED have 200% grown on me, I remember thinking they weren’t that fitting when I first heard them but I don’t think they could be more fitting now that we’re half way through, they’re both so good. |

And when you think the anime can't get any better, they give us this episode. Like, wow, what an intense episode. I think this episode clearly signs a breakthtough for Yoshiki's character. We have seen so many times throughout these 6 episodes how he isn't sure of what to make of Monster Hikaru, but the event that happened with Asako clearly drew a line for Yoshiki it seems. The fact that Monster Hikaru was ready to kill Asako just because he thought she discovered the truth... Which just shows this entity spoke the truth when he told Yoshiki it would kill him if he ever spoke the truth to anybody. The sad thing is that Asako actually believes not every ghost is evil, as we can see by her backstory, which by the way was really interesting. So Asako was completely open to give this "Ghost" within Hikaru the opportunity to have a "better/normal" life. If Yoshiki hadn't come to ask them to bring ice cream, Asako would be dead, and that's the scariest thing of the episode. During this, it is also confirmed that the lady from the 1st episode was killed by Hikaru, which made Yoshiki sick (especially considering how he acted like he didn't even interacted with her in the 2nd episode). The way Monster Hikaru talked about life and death, as they were basically the same thing, and as if he's envious of those that have life, makes me wonder about the backstory we saw some episodes ago of this entity. This monster even knows it's contradicting itself, because eventhough they are the same thing, he still doesn't want Yoshiki dead. This also confirms that what's really keeping from this monster to kill Yoshiki, is Hikaru's memories. So maybe this affinity it has for Yoshiki really comes from Hikaru, which is the closest we have been to a confirmation that the feelings Yoshiki has for Hikaru are reciprocal. Yoshiki also found an old note, probably written by Hikaru when he was alive, that seems to point out to the possibility Hikaru knew this situation could happen... I'm curious about that. But going back to the whole breakthrough for Yoshiki, we start this episode with a philosophical dillema, that quickly translates to if the Monster Hikaru, looks like him and acts like him, would that mean he's a different entity of Hikaru, or just is as if they are the same person? However, we see this episode this Monster Hikaru tried to kill Asako, which is clearly something that Hikaru wouldn't do (as far as we know), so the answer is clear: they are 2 different entities, because they do not act like eachother. It's true that Yoshiki comes get Hikaru to go to school in the end of the episode like nothing happenned, but honestly, for me, this is really suspicious. Yoshiki was clearly shocked with what happened that night, to the point of puking when he found out the truth. He didn't even spent Sunday with the rest of the group, and went home. And during that day, we don't know what was he thinking or doing. So, for me, I think Yoshiki is now planning something, maybe with the help of Rie. I doubt he would accept what Monster Hikaru tried to do with Asako, even if said monster looks exactly like the most important person in his life. On a side note, it seems like the other 2 from the friend group really are dating! That's cute, and is funny how they are always picking fights with each other. But I wonder if something bad will happen to them due to that. Also, some terrible entity is lurking at school, and Monday is the day that they finally present that depressing and eerie song they have been practicing since episode one, so for sure something bad is going to happen at school, next episode, even if it's just for how traumatized people are going to be after hearing that choir xD (they don't even sound that bad, they just sound creepy, it seems like they are making some kind of ritual). So basically, this anime is amazing, like, this has so much depth to it, and I can't wait for next week's episode, like I NEED IT NOW! And I'm really hoping we are getting a 2nd season, because 12 episodes aren't going to be enough! |

Hikaru and the others are going to keep being unsure of who he is.. but their lives must go on. Feel like they still have to somewhat come to terms about what they are in relationship to everyone around em. Rip getting caught drooling in the classroom. Never want to be like that. Between the festival giving free food and the villagers giving free rides in the back of the truck, pretty welcoming group. The bug scene that happened shortly after, threw a little wrench in the vibes. Uh... when that girl asked who he was.. that silence with the cicadas was deafening. I absolutely adored the ongoing existential discussion. Seeing "Hikaru"'s view on life and death was interesting. I have read part of the manga before, but I forgot about that part. I'm already excited for the next episode. |

Hikaru is stranger and stranger, I wonder when everyone will start to realise that Hikaru is not him anymore. |

(maybe more. lol)
When Yoshiki opens Hikaru's room, his brain expects a warm room where the boy he loves greets him with a smile. But, upon entering, the warmth is missing. The way the anime showed it made me slightly emotional.
I love the way they animated Yoshiki's dad interacting with Kouhei. In the manga, I always shipped them, so it's nice to see the anime also made them shippable. haha
Kouhei's voice actor speaks to Yoshiki's dad the same way Hikaru speaks with Yoshiki!
But nope! We didn't! πππ
When "Hikaru" and Asako are walking alone, you can tell they have been friends for a very long time.
Instead, he should help "Hikaru" understand him, while he himself also tries to understand "Hikaru."
Anyway, that long necked spirit! I didn't think the anime would actually show it so early on.
I am glad the anime let at least this episode be a proper slice-of-life episode.

@FuMomo-kun Can you pin point the volume or the chapter we are on now? I'd like to read the manga too. |

@Inexplicable Lolz you're the retarded one, just keep watching and see how it goes. Yoshiki is planning on killing Hikaru now, he's just good with being a poker face. When you try to murder someone, you don't let them know your emotion/ intention. |
