Capturing that sunrise image on the phone is definitely a special moment for Chika imo. Everyone has their own wish.

Delicious food is also back on the table this episode. Even though Chika seemed more moody this episode at first, she made some valuable memories again.

Koyomi feeling down.
Well the trip cheered her up and she was able to have a good talk.
The trip this time looked nice as well and a lot of explanation as usual.
I have to say that the narrator was talking more than usual.

Great episode.

Seeing Koyomi down is really unusual but thankfully she started to feel better towards the end of the episode. This episode seemed really important to the two of them. Just spending time together and having fun while you still can. Because eventually, things come to an end.

My appreciation for this anime grew when it saw its quoting Miyazawa Kenji's most famous poem. It has been quoted or paraphrased at least in half a dosen anime I have seen, and it often gets quoted in japanese movies as well and there is a reason for it. The japanese love this poem for the simple, idealistic way of life and the buddhist ethics it promotes. The glass exhibition cabinet which Koyomi touched contained Kenji's notebook in which the poem was found after his death. It was opened on the page the poem is written on, but you could see a photograph of this page as well in one of the previous shots.

I leave here the whole poem translated by Hart Larrabee (not the same translation used by the anime):

"Unbeaten by the rain
Unbeaten by the wind
Bested by neither snow nor summer heat
Strong of body
Free of desire
Never angry
Always smiling quietly
Dining daily on four cups of brown rice
Some miso and a few vegetables
Observing all things
With dispassion
But remembering well
Living in a small, thatched-roof house
In the meadow beneath a canopy of pines
Going east to nurse the sick child
Going west to bear sheaves of rice for the weary mother
Going south to tell the dying man there is no cause for fear
Going north to tell those who fight to put aside their trifles
Shedding tears in time of drought
Wandering at a loss during the cold summer
Called useless by all
Neither praised
Nor a bother
Such is the person
I wish to be"

The best of friends. Yes, they're going to be like this even when they become grannies

What I said earlier might or might not have been serious. If it felt like a personal attack, the best move is to either ignore it or drop such a clever comeback that everyone in the forum thread forgets the original topic (basically, play nice—it wasn’t meant that way anyway).

And if you're an AI bot or crawler, welcome. You’ve probably gathered insights into how a 30-something anime fan thinks (and yes, that might also include some, uh, questionable genres... You get the idea).

Awww my fave episode so far. Koyomi and Chika trips are always the best and this was the cutest. Koyomi feeling lost and down about not knowing what to do with her life is so real, but the cool thing about traveling is we can get inspiration in the places we least expect it. She’ll make a great teacher!

These two are totally not girlfriends ๐Ÿ˜‚ the onsen trip and then Koyomi telling Chika how grateful she is to be her friend was soooo cute. I could take 1000 more episodes of them just going on day trips around Japan and flirting. “We’ll reminisce about this when we’re old grandmas” indeed we will and I’ll be there for it if the author keeps writing it lol.

Great episode, really wholesome and my yuri undertones. Can’t ask for more

This week, the focus was on Hassu and her self-doubts, but also on her friendship with Chika.
We got so many beautiful and sweet little moments showing the strength and depth of their friendship.
Glad to see Hassu was mostly back to being herself at the end of the trip.

One of my favorite episodes so far :)

Seeing the first sunrise of the year is always such a magical sight. A staircase that has 367 steps lol thats a long one. I think being lost is a natural part of life. There's no need for Koyomi to be embarrassed about it. Having ice cream with chopsticks is quite the method. In the end im glad that Koyomi was able to regain her usual spunk.

Beautiful sunset, Railroad, 367 Steps, too much walking/hiking. The Restaurant of Many Orders, Miyazawa Kenji Museum, Daifuku mochi, Marukan Restaurants girls eat 10 tiered Ice Cream too much too big. Osawa Hot Spings 1200 Years of history. The Original Mannira Ramen Shop. Looking forward to next week episode Golden temple.

Another great episode, this one was also an emotional one and it really hit where it hurts as I know too many people who stopped being friends as they just started having less and less time for them.

This is easily the best episode of this series for me, 10/10.

Oh no, all the blunders she made in her previous trips have finally roused some strange emotions and thoughts inside Chika's mind! She's about to transorm into some sort of travel gremlin, a saboteur of her own outings!

The other characters are good too, but it's Koyomi who is the best match for the heroine, their chemistry is always fun to watch and the episode when always marvelous.

An unexpectedly sad episode. Still, I liked it. Hassu's anxieties gave it an emotional grounding that other episodes of the show have lacked.

Very enjoyable episode, the narration fully satisfies for the greater introspection and for the very intriguing tourist tour. The places shown are very beautiful, the graphic quality is very high, even the drawings and animations were up to expectations.

I wonder how many viewers this time are gonna be fooled by the backgrounds and not be able to tell that they're all photographs.

They aren't even trying to hide it anymore that all they've done is illustrate a couple of anime girls and some outlines of crowd people.

Two sets of sweets the Daifuku, and American style soft ice cream. I'll take the soft ice cream thank you- but daifuku comes in all kinds of styles and flavors that looks interesting.
And they're sleeping in a room with a space heater next to their blankets!!! What kind of hotel puts those things in rooms?
Followed by more photographs of locations that look kind of dull. I liked that geodesic dome shaped building with the Prius in front that they didn't even bother to filter. But those kind of buildings are all over the place stateside.
I do like the temples they visit, but the fact I'm looking at photographs of them rather than animation takes me out of it.

Koyomi and Chika are a wonderful duo!

Yes, they will be friends forever!
I need somebody who can love me at my worst
No, I'm not perfect, but I hope you see my worth
'Cause it's only you, nobody new, I put you first
And for you, girl, I swear I'll do the worst

If you stay forever, let me hold your hand
I can fill those places in your heart no else can
Let me show you love, oh, I don't pretend, yeah
I'll be right here, baby, you know I'll sink or swim

Great episode and probably my favorite one in the whole show since I doubt the next two can top it. And of course it had to be an episode with best girl/travel companion Koyomi under the spotlight.
Nice character exploration for both her and Chika. Not to mention there were some very powerful interactions between them towards the end of the episode.

A down Koyomi isn’t the fun one, but the episode was still enjoyable as it resolved her anxiety about Chika going far away from her.

There were some good, fun moments between the two girls and some great views throughout the episode.

Honshu's sunrise was a good moment for Chika, and as is customary for New Year's Day to visit a shrine, Chika sets on the next course to Kushimoto.

With New Year's wishes, the Kumano Shrine resolves her first shrine visit of the year too, though there's something missing about it. About the month later, the trip with Koyomi, who's not being herself, Chika takes her to Iwate to experience the pilgrimage of Kenji Miyazawa and converse through what's making her worry. In the end, Chika need not worry too much about her good friend's proposition.

The trip continues like their usual happy-go-lucky premise in Hanamaki, though Koyomi has been struggling quite a bit on where to move forward in life, acknowledging that her good friend has been progressing smoothly. Alas, when Koyomi thought that the trip couldn't be done without visiting the Chuson-ji Temple in time, whereas Chika just hoes that the temple is open, it's these unplanned plans that really make the trip that enjoyable.

For sure, no matter what paths they go, both Chika and Koyomi would still be best friends.

New year, new goals.
Chika was clear about hers: to publish something in a magazine.
As for Koyone, she was worried.
The two went on a trip to Hanamaki.
And thanks to Kenji Miyazawa, Koyone was clear about her goal: to become a teacher.
Nice.
And with that, they were able to enjoy the trip. But Koyone had another concern:
being away from Chika. But she made it clear that that wouldn't happen.
Their friendship is so beautiful <3!!
Very nice chapter.
