The search for Tsumugi begins! That story they also heard about the lighthouse is starting to sound like a legend.

More storytelling about her past but I'm glad they found her. They also found her diary too, and this gives similar vibes to the previous arc.

This was probably the best episode so far. Even though you can tell this was a little rushed, I can see why people praised the Tsumugi route so much. I’m excited to play the game at some point this summer and see how it hits with a proper runtime, but this was decent.

Learning about the real tsumugi’s backstory hit hard man. I think it’s very realistic that she hesitated to leave her family and the island. Yea, you love your fiancé and all, but damn leaving everything you know behind is a big ask. Especially given how much she was shunned as a kid for being an outsider, it probably made her extra reliant on her parents for support. In short, she’s a mama/daddy’s baby. It’d be more unrealistic if she just fully committed so quickly lol. My heart breaks knowing she basically been stuck in limbo for decades tho.

In a way, it’s reflective of Hairi who’s also been stuck in limbo albeit got different reasons. Classic animanga/VN trope of two characters helping each other move on. We got a kiss too!!

Gonna be sad to see this arc end next week :/ Kamome 2.0 coming up ain’t it?
Also, are any of the girls on this island real then lol? Hairi’s first two gfs have been imaginary friends 😂

So this is the end of the Tsumugi arc?

Well no abs this episode for those who are interested in that.
And it seems history might be changed at the end of this arc.
I wonder how Sisuki will feel about that tho.

Shizuku being herself with all the boobie talk and teasing Hairi, but once they both realized they knew nothing about Tsumugi, the atmosphere changed really fast. I really love Tsumugi for her purity, cuteness, shyness, clumsiness, and her way of loving others wholeheartedly. These attributes make me want to protect her from all and any harm.

As Hairi and Shizuku got closer to the investigation, we learned about Tsumugi's past, about how one day she was spirited away and was never seen again. We found out she was in love with the lighthouse keeper and was going to elope with him. Hearing this, Hairi was definitely shocked, and he wasn't alone in that, but I was also relieved to realize she was spirited away before they could have done it.

The really weird thing happened when he also got spirited away to the same place where the Tsumugi from the past was. There, she mentioned the trick working for everyone else, meaning many others have come there as well. I'm guessing my Kamome is also there, and maybe that’s where Umi came from too.

When Hairi returned from that mysterious place, it was wholesome to see Shizuku worry sick about him, and most of all, that Tsumugi was back and happy to see him.

It was such an emotional moment during their talk at night about parting ways, not being able to see each other again, and still loving one another. That kiss was what healed me from all the sadness.

Probably now Tsumugi will vanish next episode too, just like how Kamome did after her kiss with Hairi. It makes me sad, but I feel good at the same time. I just can't bring myself to watch the next episode because I don't want my fear to become reality, but not seeing it through would feel disrespectful.

Such a good episode.

That diary Hairi read was pretty sad. Tsumugi not being able to find any friends for a while must've been tough, she did find a friend in the end luckily. The storytelling for this episode was on point. The thing about her past was so good and just so nice to watch. The place Hairi went to was interesting and really cool to watch though. Another kiss, wasn't as good as Kamome's but, it was still great.

Man, it hurt to see Shizuku sobbing and all shaken up over Hairi being gone instead of being her usual oppai-crazy chill big sister self. I get Tsumugi had dibs for a hug, but kinda wish someone invited Shizuku over too.

Also, emotional stuff aside, it was weirdly satisfying to see an actual completed tower of Paringles cans powered by the Dango Daikazoku lol

Hairi is among the best romance MMCs I have seen, thoughtful, intelligent, self reflective so very caring, decisive, and so sweet when he needs to be.
So Tsumugi Wenders is in some sort of limbo, and if she gets out, where and when will she go? And about our Tsumugi, who clearly wrote thoses last diary entries about not letting Tsumugi Wenders being forgotten, What is she. She apparently had been with Wenders in limbo, but is a different entity, and apparently plans to go back to Wenders. I am still betting on a tsugumomo type tsukumogami, likely the plushie bear. The song must be one that Wenders hummed to her plushies. Fortuitous that I had binged Tsugumomo not too long ago.

Quite a bit of emotions this episode, looking forward to the conclusion of this arc next week.
Hairi and Tsumugi love each other so much but they're trying to be brave.

I feel like this route is suffering more from cuts than the previous one, probably because Kamome's route was a bit more straigthforward and involved less characters overall, so many things feel rushed here.
Interestingly, this episode had some slight foreshadowing/teasing of the true routes, I can't wait to see them animated.

Ah so finally we get to see Hairi get banished to the shadow light realm.

Honestly they cooked with this episode. That was about as good as the original could be adapted. Hairi and Shizuku's desperation in their search for Tsumugi was very well portrayed and the mystery is being unveiled nicely. Even with the route being abridged it's hitting all the right notes and I'm glad they rushed through the first 2 eps of Tsumugi route if this is the level of payback we got.

So the tsumugi we know is basically her old past’s self indecision I guess

It's nice to learn old Tsumugi's past story but I am not sure why her past is related to present Tsumugi, because she missed the island so much so that she came back briefly?

Oh so that's the backstory behind Tsumugi since the Tsumugi we know is the "good" part of the older Tsumugi from back then that couldn't decide if she was willing to leave her family and friends to go out of the island with her boyfriend. Good kiss at the end between her and Hairi ;)

I thought pain & suffering will come this episode not quite yet.

Really feel bad for old Tsumugi just one moment of doubt and she got spirited away. Stuck alone limbo for many years depending on flow of time. It's not really easy take this decision of leaving friends and family but this is very sad fate.

Hairi coming back to reality was such a good scene trusting Tsumugi words and those pringles can. And Tsumugi was there to greet him. The devolopment is rushed but still I really like their relationship even more than with Kanome at this stage. They really cared for eachother.

There are still lot to be resolved like how old Tsumugi last friend died very recently (and how this Tsumugi came). What even is this Tsumugi. That song, bird.

They have 1 week and it's over. Such an unenviable postion to be in.

I am ready to cry next episode👍

Once again, this series is hitting the emotional moments very effectively. Knowing more about Tsumugi's past upon Hairi and Shizuku's investigation of the old manor house was a bit melancholic, but things did shift as Hairi ended up vanishing to another version of the lighthouse where the real Tsumugi was residing.

He's not the first person to appear here and might not be the last, but it was interesting to see the two of them converse. This Tsumugi was planning on eloping with her mother, but she not only hesitated upon arriving at the lighthouse, but she ended up vanishing to this place as well. She made sure to tell Hairi that she couldn't go with him to the exit as she was still hesitating.

I'm glad that Hairi returned safely and the Tsumugi that he fell in love with was thankfully present here as well. It was also nice to see the pair kiss later on after having a heart-to-heart talk with each other. Very wholesome stuff, as always. =)

Presumably, this arc will end in the next episode, so I do look forward to seeing how it'll be wrapped up. I wouldn't be surprised if it makes me shed a tear or two.

I don't get it. So, our Tsumugi is actually some kind of astral projection of the real Tsumugi? Which she needs to return to her time? And do I understand correctly that this time the studio did not choose any one central route (besides the true one, of course), instead integrating all the endings into one show, as was done in the adaptations of Yosuga no Sora and Ef?

@Mari_Marx This isn't the first premise like this for Key, but I'd will drop a huge spoiler if I told you the last time they did something like this.

I wonder if any of these girls are real since now it's confirmed that Tsumugi is going to disappear soon, maybe Shizuku is real but if there's a route dedicated to her then she probably isn't. Anyways, it was nice to see Tsumugi again even if its temporary, they can at least have a proper goodbye.

@Alfredo-Sauce The 2? remaining know main routes, Shiroha and Ao, are long time well known locals, so they are likely substantial humans. So are Shizuka and Miki; but do not know if they are routes. Umi seems to be something supernatural, but not a romance route?

@Kai200X It's pretty ambiguous in anime how long Hairi had come to the island. In game there is a calendar, by the time this episode happened he had known her for like a month already. (Hairi arrived on the island around mid July, most heroine story end around late August = End of summer)

Well Tsumugi and Hairi’s reunion was sweet, I really liked the final scene of the episode too, but… I don’t like this plot very much. So she’s like a part of the Tsumugi from the past that’s living in the present, but has her own personality that makes her unique and not the same person, but she is? And the real Tsumugi from the past is hanging out in butterfly world or purgatory, and won’t leave because she’s still indecisive from that pivotal moment before she got beamed out of existence, that’s cool and all but I don’t really understand why she isn’t leaving after being in there so long (unless this is a thing where time passes a lot slower in that world), also why is the lighthouse teleporting people away that have issues to sort out lol, I’m sure this is one of those things that will be answered eventually but I can’t help but think it feels silly to a degree.

And I’m also a bit surprised to hear this episode was well adapted from the game, it was well paced overall as an anime only, but the butterfly world felt a bit fast to me because Hairi found a way to leave so quickly, I thought maybe more coulda been done there. Oh well, my complaints aside I’m still invested in this, I like Tsumugi as a character a lot even if I’m not a big fan of her route’s story, so I’m interested in seeing how all this ends.

That's good to know that some of these girls are real and on that note I hope that their routes intertwine with each other as the supernatural ones seem to be separate and unrelated to each other (at least so far). Regarding Umi, I recall that she disappeared/turned into a butterfly at the end of Kamome's route so it doesn't surprise me to hear that she is also supernatural.

@RobertBobert Kind of? But not really, what she actually is will be revealed next episode.

The way a lot of the routes are structured around the end of summer doesn't leave much space to change it to an anime like Clannad with romance removed from routes and adding in the central heroine, if they tried to put Tomoyo and Kyou's route in the main anime instead of OVAs it'd be all over the place cause Tomoyo's specifically relies on a time skip at the end and romance. Every route in Summer Pockets is like Tomoyo's (in terms of fitting into the story) but it actually works out to fully adapt each route because of one of the true routes plot twists. Kamome is a bit detached, Tsumugi introduces a few major things, Ao explains the main supernatural element and Shiroha is the most important to the true route but all routes are referenced in someway (obviously and very subtly) so it'd be impossible to cut anything major

@Alfredo-Sauce The Kamome we knew was supernatural but right at the end (when she jumped into Hairi's arms) was a time skip and the real Kamome, only one girl isn't technically 'real'
everyone else with weird stuff will be explained by Ao and the true routes

@RobertBobert On Yosuga No Sora, it is just simply showcasing the endings of the heroines and it does not really have any impact on the main plot. Heck, they could just not adapt the heroine routes at all and just go straight to Sora's route only and call it a day. While on this one, since
It is just killing two birds with one stone.

Instead of Yosuga No Sora, Higurashi is more accurate comparison.

@Uguu_Tsukimiya That's the unfortunate price pretty much every VN adaption has to pay, even Kanon (2006) which to this day is the gold standard for VN adaptations imo had a lot of Mai's route cut (which is my favourite route in the game but the least impactful in the anime). But I think Clannad After Story proved that even with huge amounts of cutting the anime can still turn out great if the source material is good enough and the anime doesn't take too many creative liberates (Looking at Rewrite) it can still be a masterpiece (and Summer Pockets true routes certainly are imo)

I'm just happy we're actually keeping the romance and the whole summer ending thing considering Little Busters! and Rewrite's adaptations removed similar things

Mixed feelings about this one. It's been a while since I played the visual novel but I don't remember the spirited away part. Up to this point they made Tsumugis route look like a Hentai visual novel and it feels kind of weird. I remember the game being super funny but the anime version of tsumugis story feels kind of weird and gives me an uneasy feeling... She was one of my favorite visual novel characters but thanks to the anime I think shes pretty annoying now lol. The finale of tsumugis route was the saddest part of the original if you don't count the soul crushing true ending but I fear that the next episode won't bring the bowl of onions with it this time around.
