Do you actually hate any anime you haven't seen?

I must confess: I haven't watch the vast majority of the anime which I call "Reddit".
I mostly hate them because they were too spammed back in 2014-2018, had the largest amount of people who watched then dubbed and used English titles, and seemed very entry-level and uninteresting to me.

I don't form any opinions about media that I haven't consumed, good or bad. I have to at least watch 6 episodes before coming to any definitive judgement.

"Hate" is a bit strong but I guess there are shows I haven't watched that are at the bottom of my "intending to watch" pile because they just don't look like they'd appeal to me. So thinks like Mob 100 or One Punch Man will only be getting watched by me once I've cleared like 2,000 other titles first.

Not sure to say hate, but if it is ugly I would avoid it like the plague. I would say High Guardian Spice, but that is not anime. Maybe Tokyo Ghoul since I think it looked a little too gay and gory for my tastes.

I've seen a fair number of clips from and heard a fair number of people talk about 100 Girlfriends, and every single thing that I have ever heard about it makes me more and more sure that I would hate it. It also annoys me with how unavoidable it is in anime discussion spaces, and I've had bad experiences with fans of the series a few times.

I was expecting to love that anime, but I got set up with falty expectations where "it is like the world god only knows." It does not even hold a candle to that at all. The series is way too tame with fanservice to make up for the poor comedy. I can not view it as a romance. I had enough with the book loli pointing to her lines. Not for me. The girls felt like numbers over characters.

Maybe I do subconsciously, but it doesn't make any sense to do so. I used to hate School Days until I watched it (it's still not great, but not bad enough to make me hate it). I also have a highly negative impression of Sword Art Online, but I wouldn't know until I watch it. However, other people hyping up a show can never be a reason for me to hate it, it only turns into hate when it utterly fails to live up to the hype after I watch it (very rarely does it happen though).

There are a few (Solo Leveling, Sword Art Online, Rent-a-Girlfriend) that I am slightly negative about because of reviews, but I wouldn't say I hate them. Hard for me to form an opinion on something if I haven't even finished the first cour.

No. The idea of hating on a show I have never watched is down right absurd to me. Sure, you might be annoyed by the fandom of that show, but... the show is not the fan base. And even the shows you do in fact love probably have asshole fans too. So you can't use a double standard.

Also, I will keep using english titles, and SHOCK .... I will keep watching in both subbed and dubbed, because I am British, and thats my language ๐Ÿ‘

The rule of thumb is "Anime that r/anime would put on a top 50".
"Gintama" feels Reddit, "Hunter x Hunter (2011)" feels Reddit, both Kaguya-sama and Spy x Family feel ULTRA Reddit (At least I watched those, though).

It's mostly vibes-based, thing in concepts such as "Anime you would show you co-workers", think about a "person" saying "I like anime, just not 'the weird stuff'".
I might even be mixing more than one category of anime under the same term, but still...

Think of an anime which you can imagine dubbed: That anime is "Reddit".

Hmm... let's do the following: Name a bunch of anime and I'll try to tell you which are Reddit and which aren't.

I try not to, but I do have a subconcious bias against some really mainstream series. Stuff like My Hero Academia, Attack on Titan, Horimiya... I wouldn't call it "hate" but hearing too much about a certain series that seems mediocre at best a lot does build up a sort of resentment against it.

The Monogatari series is one of those that I couldn’t finish the first one of it. I get bored after few episodes, and somehow, I developed a certain way (unintentionally) to hate the series. I assume the series is heavily in-depth of Japanese folklore? I dunno. I couldn’t get passed through the giant crab. And there is a vampire girl? What’s going on? Another thing makes me hate the series is some of the fanbase, putting Hitagi Senjogahara on pedestal as some prime excellent example of the best waifu. I get that, but thanks to them, I started to hate her on some level, and I barely know her a little. That scene where she uses a stapler, a knife and other little, small school supplies.

However, having said that I struggle to finish the series. Even if I hate it, I have to see through.

Fairy Tail… ugh… no matter how much I try to rewatch it, I just can’t. Spare ne the explanation. I dropped that shit the moment Sting pussy out infront Laxus, Erza and others. All for the sake of his stupid cat in frog costume. And that thing didn’t die? Hiro is a bitch.

@_ohara
I hate dubs because the vast majority of them are very bad, dubbers can't speak in another phonology for shit.
For instance, they can't simply pronounce a name such as "Otohime", they'll say "oto-HEE-MAY".

As for English titles, I myself had forgotten that, but ended up remembering: It likely started as a litmus test or a redflag for me for a type of fan I didn't like, but was nevertheless overexposed to, all the while thinking that finding fans which weren't like that as being "a breath of fresh air", so it likely pavlov'd into what it is today over time.

Other than that, I just can't understand someone choosing to watch dubs and use English titles while being here. At this point, why not just go all in and watch western TV series?

One thing with me is that I just can't fathom someone only repeating the same things? Like how I told in other threads that when I was around 12 or so, EVERY FUCKING "BEST GAMES OF ALL TIME" LIST MADE BY MILLENNIALS WAS THE FUCKING SAME.
There's a problem here in Brazil that people only know half a dozen Brazilian movies and ONLY TALK ABOUT THEM, so when a guy made a list of Brazilian movies without including those, people began spamming "EHRM, WHERE ARE THOSE?" INSTEAD OF WATCHING A NEW FUCKING MOVIE.

Seriously, how are normies/casuals like that? How can people just keep talking about THE SAME DOZEN FUCKING THINGS, NEVER GOING FOR SOMETHING NEW, HOW? That boggles my mind, it happens with anime also, that's one major problem I have with them.
That's why when I find someone online with a Malice@Doll or Alien 9 profile picture I just share a deep sense of kinship.
I'm basically Anton Ego from the Ratatouille movie: I don't "like" anime, I LOVE IT. AND IF I DIDN'T LOVE IT, I WOULDN'T WATCH IT.
Likewise, I can't connect with people I don't feel "love it" the right way.

IDK, how do YOU define Reddit? We might be using different definitions here.

When people say that something is "Reddit", they typically mean one of three things, which don't overlap much:
  1. A mix of "I'm a nice guy, but girls only like jerks" 4chan-lite Right Wing culture warrior who cares too much about wokeness
  2. Milenialcore normie, somewhat soy, coworker-esque, "HECKING PUPPERINO, OH MY SCIENCE"
  3. Smug insufferable SJW
I'm using definition 2 here, BTW.

Somewhat off-topic, but I've been noticing that my comments have been seeming more harsh in tone lately, and I feel that this can come out as me being an asshole to some people, and I really don't want to offend anyone (OK, there is one person I want to offend, but they aren't in this thread).
I noticed I've been leaning more into this personality later, but I'll try to be more careful.

Hate is way too strong word for something you haven't even seen. It doesn't even make sense in my opinion.
I'd rather focus on the genre point here and say I despise Drama. Everything and any anime that has Drama in it's genre will not be watched as of a few years back.
Way too cringe and every single romance anime for example, has the same kind of plot when drama is involved.

But surprisingly, and something I really despise is when shows like Make Heroine ga Oosugiru doesn't have Drama in its genre but still it was full of that sh*t with this love drama cry baby b*tch *ss moments. Yuck.

I would have to watch those to see how good they are.

Noir = Not Reddit
Boogiepop Phantom = Not Reddit
Kino's Journey = Trace amounts of Reddit in the past, now Not Reddit
GA art Design = Not Reddit
Non Non Biyori = Trace amounts of Reddit, likely Not Reddit nowadays
Azumanga Daioh = Used to be Not Reddit, but it's popularity by people who haven't watched made it become a little bit reddit
Slayers = Used to be trace amounts of Reddit, now Not Reddit
Patlabor = Not Reddit
Bubblegum Crisis = Trace amounts of trace mounts of Reddit
City Hunter = Not Reddit
Outlaw Star = Trace amounts of Reddit due to being Toonami
Shaman King = Not Reddit
Legend of Galactic heroes = A small dose of Reddit

Overall this list is not Reddit. In fact, I feel that most of what I called "Trace amounts of Reddit" would only apply a few years ago. Nowadays, likely none of it is really Reddit.

I don't know what that word means.
What does it mean?
@thewiru What I mean by this, is that you basically think you're superior, on another level than those disgusting normies who watch 'Reddit anime' in thier spoken language. You wont even try good shows because they're popular, you think watching underground shows somehow makes you better. The worst part is, you 100% do all this for the MAL equivalent of streed cred, so some other pretentions guy on MAL with 1000000 entries can view your list and say: ''Damn, bro! Impressive taste!'' The idea of open mindedly, and wholeheartedly watching a show like Dragon Ball or One Piece makes you feel disgust, because its sooooo normie and reddit and ew its so popular. Thats your mindset, and im tired of it.

Bro when he realizes he's not Japanese, and is allowed to use English Titles, and watch in dub if he feels like it, SHOCK... good and accurate dubs exist. But you're soooo high up on that horse of yours that you'll never see the gold beneath you.

You care SO MUCH about your self image and what other people think of you, you live to impress other people you deem as 'cultured' and far removed from reddit anime.

Sorry, this might be a hard pillow to swallow, but Japanese people probably dont give a fuck that you watch in sub and use japaneese titles

You take this shit too far.

This was me with One Piece, less the anime now but the fandom. I've been watching it, especially one pace, which makes the pacing better, but not what I would call peak. It's good, but to me it's still generic shonen slop, not much different than the isekais I like. People who call it peak can't accept the fact that people might have different opinions and a lot of them are like "Just wait until you get to X arc" like my brother in christ I'm not watching 500 more episodes just for "peak" when I'm already 200+ episodes in and to me it's just mediocre. This caused me to dislike the anime for a while with a negative mindset.

"Hate" is too strong of a word for how I feel about anime I haven’t watched, but I can definitely say I have some pretty negative vibes towards certain series. I mean, there are those ridiculously popular ones that get spammed everywhere, especially during their peak, and I just couldn’t wrap my head around the obsession with them. It felt like everyone and their grandma were watching them, and it made me question: What’s so special about these shows that I’m missing?

It’s more like an annoying overhype than actual hate. I don't hate them, but I can't deny I’m kinda turned off by all the noise surrounding them.

Do you actually hate any anime you haven't seen?

Wistoria Wand Wand Sword season 2! I hated the first season so much (it's a shame I watched it all the way through) that I ranked it as my worst anime. But since you asked about an anime I haven't watched yet, I’d say Attack on Titan (please don't hate me, I know how many people love AOT). It has too many seasons for me to even start... and then I got completely spoiled on the story. It's not like Wistoria where I say I hate the story. It's more like I just don't want to watch it anymore because I already know the whole story anyway.

I hate rape hentai but that's only because fetishizes something that shouldn't be fetishized.

But if we're talking about non-hentai stuff.

Then no I don't normally fall into that. I will usually give 90% of things a try. Better to actually have your own opinion on things then someone else's and better to not mindlessly hate something without a good reason if you ask me.

But we all have our reasons for feeling the way we do. So I don't blame ya for hating what you reference as reddit anime. We all go about watching things differently and have different tastes for a reason.
