The fact that this remake is still able to get its original seiyuu puts a smile on my face. Yaiba reminds me so much of Goku with his thirst for combat with a smile. This will prove to be a fun anime that Wit Studio got for itself.

My favourite part is Minami Takayama being hired for the same role...but I guess Yaiba's idiosyncrasies can't easily matched by someone else.
Also my first thought when I read about the reboot was "Onimaru will be played by Yoshimasa Hosoya?"...here he is.
The animation is nice, nothing mind blowing...but maybe I am desensitised.

Tho I am dropping this after a couple of episodes (was just ciriouse about the production), since I am familiar with the manga and it's a typical 80's battle/sport shounen.

This feels like an old saturday morning cartoon. Bright colors, animals with big smiles, exaggerated facial expressions and an overall child-like artstyle.

Even tough it has some real smooth and energetic animation, I kinda felt indifferent while watching, it didn't hook me at all. The humor feels outdated, too.

I hope it gets a little darker and mature in future episodes. But right now, there are no real hints that it will.
@utopica for me that intro is already a good hint

Good first episode.

One critique I have is simply that the opening song just isn't very good, but that's a consistent matter of taste. I find both the opening and ending songs lack the energy of their original anime counterparts, but the ending song is deliberately going for something different.

I'm more interested in seeing how this will go once the anime goes beyond the Kaguya arc, but that also probably won't be for two years or so based on Wit's scheduling lol.

Studio Wit and the One Punch Man crew were cooking! Now THIS is what sakuga should be like!

So the casual ecchi from the past was tone down a lot for modern audiences.

Episode 4/5

A great start, very fun and a little too crazy lol
We have Yaiba and his father arriving in the city and a sequence of fights and unusual things happening, some very fun dynamics like that of Yaiba and the girl that reminded me from the remake of ranma ½. The fights were very well done by wit studio, and the animation It was phenomenal. A very promising and excellent quality start, for me so far this was the third best debut of the season. I'm already looking forward to the next episode

Damn, this looks really good!

Wit Studio really cooking here, and the visuals with modern Tokyo is just beautiful. Action choreography is intense and the character designs give off authentic 90’s vibes, I’m sold already.

Quite the rough swordsmanship Yaiba possesses, it’ll be interesting to see how he fares with opponents going forward. National champion is something else! Had to go back to the start to see whether the pink and green signified these two, but doesn’t seem like it.

Yaiba’s first exposure to city life, lol - it was hilarious all round. And first time seeing girls too. Pops definitely shared good advice, lmao. Solid Op and ED as well.

If this is what the One Piece is going to look like, I’m beyond excited now.

One of the strongest premieres I have seen in a while. Visually arresting, with an immediately charming cast and great music. I'm locked in for 2 cours! And from what I understand, Wit is committed to completely adapting the manga after this?

Damn, I knew nothing about the story or the remake and this premiere episode totally blew me away. This might be the best anime this season if it keeps up like that, Hopefully it gets the recognition it deserves.

I've heard the staff is extremely stacked for this anime and the result is that the art and animation is so breathtaking. This episode reminded me of the good old Shounen days, Introducing us to the main bad guy in episode 1 haha.

God, I love the animation. It really reminds me of early Conan, as well as Aoyama's earlier, more round artstyle compared to his sharp artstyle of today.

That animation was fantastic! The little dude is annoying AF though. I'm not going to watch this one seasonally. I was not really into the comedy in this episode, but I could see the charm growing on me eventually. Glad it was a good start for everyone excited about the series. I might come back to it once it finishes airing, but I can already tell it is something I would fall behind on while it airs. I tend to enjoy Shounen like these more if I watch them in marathon sessions.

To say I was excited about this show would be an understatement; ever since this project was announced, I've been waiting to see what one of the best current animation studios could do with an older action manga by an author whose work I love. The trailer already had me hyped up, and this first episode did not disappoint.

For starters, obviously, the animation is gorgeous. The fluidity is on par with the best of the best, from the very first scene (a lavish fight in a fantastical realm) to even the most mundane parts of the show (such as Yaiba training on top of the house against the gray morning sky). The direction is also inspired, with beautiful shot composition, and the colors of the show are vibrant without being loud, giving this world a lively, but still distinguished feel. The character design is top-notch! Aoyama's distinctive style blends perfectly with Wit Studio's slick animation, giving me hope for a future, modern adaptation of Detective Conan.

As for the story, so far it's been lovely. Nothing too complicated, but a classic 80s/90s shōnen. I didn't watch or read the original, I only know Yaiba from the DC OVA, so my knowledge is very limited, and I can't wait to find out more as the plot develops!

I'm extremely excited for the rest of this season, let's go!

This episode was much better than I expected. The comedy was really good, and the animation, visual effects, and fight scenes were incredibly well made. It feels like they didn’t change the soul of the original and gave it a fresh, polished look.
I really liked the opening and ending. They were amazing. If the series keeps up this level of quality, we’re definitely going to watch something special. (That Instagram detail at the end? Haha, no detail ever escapes my eye.)

Well..l was interested in this anime just because the studio animating it is WIT and I am GLAD I got interested in this anime.
It is a fun anime, that much I can say for sure. Kinda gives the Ranma 1/2 vibes but just on the surface. The character designs are somewhat rough but also nostalgic maybe because they resemble the old shonen anime character designs and I think it will take some time to settle into it because of the combination between the rough character designs and refined animation.
Anyways, I really liked the first episode and am excited for the next.
Thanks WiT Studio for this remake.

I remember watching this show when I was a kid, like 8/9 years old and I really loved it at a time. I'm definitely watching it from a nostalgia feeling.
The animation was great, obviously the highlight was that fight in the beginning, but even the other small fights during the episode were good.
Let's hope other fights going forward are treated the same.

Does anyone know how many episodes this will have?

The animation is insanely good.
A taxi from Narita to Tokyo? Pfft 🤣
Yaiba is very Goku-ish having never seen a girl before, spending his early life hunting and fighting wild animals. Calling everyone around him a gorilla or baboon 😆
Sayaka lying to scare Yaiba away from school will just make him want to go and fight all these worthy opponents.
And, finds one, Onimaru who manages to beat him.

Honestly the amount of still frames is insanely impressive. Throughout the WHOLE episode there were so few still frames that it was crazy. Like they even INTENTIONALLY animated stuff into the background and such at times to make still frames used for directing NOT still. Most of that overview of the city about 6 mins in could've been entirely still, especially the cars in the far distance, and yet they animated it anyways, good production this is.
I like to watch some anime, I like to talk about some anime, I dislike wars over some anime, but more than anything I love to live my life, anime is an enjoyable and entertaining addition onto my life but it's not my whole life.

I trust that people will slowly but surely come to watch this one and (hopefully) enjoy it.
So far, it's been very few, but most people are happy about it, which is already a good sign.

WIT makes a wonderful job, the cast is great (VAs) and the story is strong.

Alright, watched episode 1 of the original series and two things hit me :

1. WIT Studio has been doing an amazing job with the animation and appeal that the scenes have (like Yaiba vs the "Ape" guy, it doesn't have the same impact now and then, it's much more powerful now.. impactful).

2. The voice actors are AMAZING in this new version, I actually come to enjoy Conan's VA "childish" acting for Yaiba compared to the more mature/without "child" spirit that the old version had.

So yeah, and they've been rearranging scenes also, altering some too.

So far, it"s my absolute favorite. Let's see what episode 2 will have

Guessing that (spoilers ahead, don't read if you haven't seen the original episode 1/2):

Kid Goku + Ran Mori + Ranma½ = This wild AF anime.

This is the second classic anime (which I haven't seen as a kid) remake that's exceeding all my expectations and absolutely grabbing my attention and giving me, me the 90s kid, 90s/childhood anime feel and nostalgia. ABSOLUTELY GONNA WATCH THE SHIT OUT OF THIS.

Best animation so far this season and probably this year.

This feels so, SO old... despite the fancy animation. Feels much older than the Ranma remake, somehow. Speaking of, yeah, basically the same set-up too.

The jazz during the gorilla fight was an interesting choice, and it turns out they got Yutaka "Great Pretender" Yamada for music.

I hope this becomes a decent substitute for Ranma this season. Yaiba is a bit obnoxious...

if you want modern anime, you should watch To Be Hero X or Lazarus.

This remake is a passion project by WIT, the one handling it was a big fan of Yaiba's 1st version and pushed for this remake.

Of course it's gonna look old but with current animation techniques, it aims for nostalgia and preservation of the old feels.

Sorry but old style rocks, and if this isn't to your tastes, there's plenty other anime for you to watch this season.

oh pardon! I meant that I havent watched the first episode yet and merely wanted to inform myself, whether or not the show is actually pretty good, as I see in the comments here, that a lot of folks are driven by nostalgia, which I dont have, since I havent ever touched the original - plus, I love wit, so I was just curious (:
