As this Kyoto Invasion progresses, the Ten Swords move out but this is just the beginning.

Both sides are making their moves including Kenshin. While the fires haven't erupted yet, there's definitely a tense vibe this episode. I love Misao's confidence here though. Shishio hasn't directly stepped onto the battlefield yet but he's leading this battle under an iron fist. I think pacing should pick up more from here. Exciting times ahead!

The moment we've been waiting for has arrived, the start of the Great Kyoto Fire. Gotta give props to the staff and everyone involved because I've been loving the anime-only additions. For reference, last episode only adapted one chapter, and this one adapted two, with most of the A part being original. Seriously, they are going above and beyond. All thanks to Watsuki actually being there and providing new direction for the series.

But enough about that, it’s time to get serious. Everyone is stepping up to give it their all, from the officers to our new leader Misao and the gang. Meanwhile, as all of that is going down in Kyoto, Kenshin and the gang have finally shown up... or should I say Kenshin and Hajime, along with the weakling that Makoto doesn’t even bother to acknowledge xD

He’ll regret that soon enough. But yeah, Makoto’s real plan is now in motion, the decoy ship being blown to pieces, revealing the real ship. And that ship being A MASSIVE STEEL FUCKING BEAST, complete with the cannon we’ve heard so much about. Everyone is pulling out all the stops, with Hajime boarding the ship, ready to wreak havoc, and Sano proving Makoto wrong about being a weakling by using his Futae no Kiwami...

... and Kenshin and Aoshi preparing for their long-awaited rematch. These last four episodes are going to be insane.

FINALLY the great fire is here! Well, sort of.

Thanks to Kenshin and Fujita’s planning, the fires haven’t actually started and they’ve held Shishio’s grunts at bay. I’m surprised Shishio didn’t anticipate Kenshin’s seeing thru his plans if they’re the two Hitokiri that are most similar to each other lol. But, I’m worried how the people of Kyoto will hold up if the 10 swords are attacking the police/civilians. There’s the remnants of the Onibawan group, but surely they can’t take them out, right?

Of course the Rengoku’s wooden exterior was just a facade. It’s a state of the arc warship damn. Definitely do not want that getting anywhere near Tokyo bay.

Y’all better put some damn respect on my boy Sano’s name. Call him a nobody at your own peril. Using the water to block the Gatling gun was so dope lmao, completely illogical, but hey I’ll take it.

And here go this idiot Aoshi 🤦🏽‍♂️ sold out your own people just for your selfish desire for a rematch with Kenshin. Really giving Vegeta Buu arc vibes. Hopefully we get a good fight between them after all this buildup and movement behind the scenes.

Hype for next ep!

Pretty good episode ! I liked a lot it's ending: the courage of the people on Kenshin's side when they decided to get to the ship. Amazing! Is amazing that the production took care of the reality as creating this episode: remember about the gunpowder getting wet ? Nice ! I'm hyped to see next combat !

They are each preparing for the battle in our own way huh. In a way being able to see the eve of the conflict from both sides was a interesting exp. The prep that Saito and the police had readied sure is proving effective. Its also funny that Shishio's men assumed that the townspeople would just let them set fire to their homes and businesses without doing anything to oppose them. Shishio slighting Sano though was amusing. The true form of the battleship though was quite impressive. And Aoshi finally makes his entry as well.

They are assembling Fuji like a mecha.

Megumi prepares for a worse case scenario with a tent hospital.

Grunts are immediately caught by police after the clock strikes midnight. The Juppongatana have to take matters into their own hands. The human wave wave to face the policemen's guns and swords in one direction and the Juppongatana in the other.

The two grunts who try setting a fire while all this is happening are stopped by Kyoto locals with the guidance of the Oniwanban group's leader Misao. Together with Kaoru and Yahiko, they can save the city from the roof tops while their three strongest are in Osaka bay.

Saitō Hajime, Kenshin and Sanosuke find the Rengoku which casts off its wooden hull. Forget a boat, they just jump on by hopping the debris. A former Shinsengumi, a former Hitokiri are both names Shishio knows but no one knows the Tokyo street brawler Sanosuke.
He still brought Katsu's grenades.
Sanosuke proves his usefulness by using the Futae no Kiwami on the water to stop Gatling gun fire. The shock. Will Anji get in trouble for teaching it?
Shishio lets Aoshi have his showdown against Kenshin.

So it was one of Shishio's Swords that taught Sano how to pressure-pulverize with his hands, interesting way to power him up.

Oh man these go by so fast, but that just goes to show how great this arc is. So I guess those ninja ladies didn’t suffer a bad fate by that large fella after all, they actually got away with information, nice. And although this stretch of episodes is called “The Great Kyoto Fire” we haven’t actually got a fire yet lol, but that’s a good thing, I loved seeing the efforts of everyone in Kyoto to stop it, both from the police officers, the citizens and the remnants of the Oniwaban Group, they’re all doing a great job so far, only the Ten Swords didn’t plan on sitting around waiting for a spark to fly, typically with them being swordsmen they’d go down by the firing squad but this is Rurouni Kenshin lol, I fear for all of those men, but the battle has been exciting so far.

And on the Tokyo Bay side of things, Shishio shedded the shell off his vessel and revealed it to be a straight up warship equipped with cannons and Gatling guns, taking a page out of Kanryu’s book I see, I like that in this sword battle fantasy series they also find themselves up against new tools of war for the time period, and damn does the Rengoku look daunting with its true form exposed. But Kenshin and Saito found their way onboard quickly, Sanosuke not so much but he thankfully made use of that move he learned from Anji to defend against the Gatling gun, not sure if that would actually stop the bullets but it was cool so whatever lol, it also spooked Shishio for a moment which was cool to see.

And right when it appeared we might get to see Kenshin go up against Shishio, here comes Aoshi to get his revenge, it really is sad when the rest of the Oniwaban Group are out defending Kyoto but I am excited to see how this rematch goes down.

Ah im glad those two manage to escape. But what's up with those people trying to rush in while the gun straight up pointing at them? At least the juppongatana are there standby slaughtering, both side. Gonna be interesting by how they face Misao oniwabanshu group and Kaoru-Yahiko, or even not at all?

Meanwhile Kenshin unexpectedly manage to catch up and then fighting the cannon? Not to mention Sanosuke able to stop gatling gun with the water impact. He should be proud Shishio acknowledge him as not just-a-nobody.

Duel with Shishio gonna be long due since i just forget Aoshi figure suddenly appear out of thin air. Idk how this gonna wrap up but i will patiently wait every week to see this till the end....

I always heard that Rurouni Kenshin was great and the Kyoto arc was peak, but the story and fights in this arc are just as average as the first arc. Until now the only really interesting characters are Kenshin and the cop (I forgot his name), I really like pacifist characters (and Kenshin is one of my inspirations for my paladin character in an RPG), but he's not as great as someone like Vash from Trigun

@Kampos We literally just got off from the build up stage, it picks up from here on out and kyoto isn't gonna end with this season but the next.

@Kampos Yeah this season has been an absolute DRAG.
First season = 8 manga volumes. Season 2 barely covers 4 volumes.

Yes, it's supposed to be peak Kenshin, but the way they've been MILKING this arc has ruined it already.

While the very good part is yet to come (yeah, all this Season is more or less a build-up), there is already a lot of more interesting elements than the Tokyo Arc, like the ideology clash between Kenshin and Shishio's vision, and how Kenshin is not as confident as he was in his vow.

That's where the '96s Anime shined tho, elevating the emotional climax of a few scene, that are kinda lambda in the Manga and there. The pacing is slower there too, as they add a lot of original content.

Actually, they are extremely similar in their structuration, but to be fair, the 2023's Season heavily toned down his personnality because of the comedy, and while you heard of his past (and saw a few seconds of Anime-original flashbacks), you'll have to wait a little bit to see the truth. That's not without reason that he's such a loved character, and that the Tsuioku-hen OVAs are said to be classics.

Yeah the end confused me because this isn't where Aoshi vs Kenshin rematch was supposed to happen. They really are putting a lot of additional stuff just to push the later and final half of this arc into another season or movie lol. Wonder how it'll go on ship now.

Btw, Sano disrespect is wild lmao. Everybody calling and treating him like a nobody. Liked when he surprised the life out of Shishio in the end.

The start of the Great Kyoto Fire, and if Iwanbo's agile fatso body isn't a threat enough to Ochame and Omasu, this will just not do.

As the minutes clock down to the calamity, everyone prepares for the expected disaster when the day strikes midnight for an all-out confrontation, except that the Ten Swords are delayed thanks to the police's interference.

Reagrdless, the Ten Swords will not let alone off easily, and even to the stragglers, the Oniwaban Group has them covered with their morale boosted thanks to Misao. And as luck would have it, Saito, Kenshin and Sanosuke managed to locate Shishio's ship, but rather than settle his score against an old enemy, preparing his ironclad Rengoku ship for the bigger cause is he better option. And as long as Kenshin can stay afloat, he is unstoppable, plus power alongside Hajime and Sanosuke, which he has powered up significantly to be a somebody.

Kenshin and Aoshi's rematch, only the winner will survive.
