| Yesterday I saw Alien: Covenant and it sucked. But it did have naked boobies in a shower. If it was an anime they would've been blocked by some silly steam cloud or something. And that's really the dif between anime and American shows. Dexter, Breaking Bad, Sex in the City, The Boys, Game of Thrones, Always Sunny in Philly, and a gajillion other shows lay it all to bare. In anime you get light beams and smoke clouds and whatnot. |

| I would argue that overall in some ways you can say it is better, but overall it isn't that much if at all as Western media has issues in other places where Japanese anime doesn't have as much. I recently watched a great video by the YouTuber Tronn about the Oversexualization of Teenage Boys in Western sitcoms and I thought it was a fantastic video that covers and often overlooked aspect of the discussion of sexualization in media. | @deg I dont watch a lot either. Horror stuff it's common to have nudity or sex happen to evoke vulnerability to danger. That shows up in anime some too but less often. Western media the girls are more sexually aggressive while anime they most often are just innocently non sexual in their depiction to give them an image of purity. Sex scenes in Western media either try to be very passionately aggressive or shown in some artsy gentle way while in anime you usually dont even see that maybe implied at most outside of hentai. Western media seems to have a lot less variety on what body types are depicted sexually at least usually, not always. Anime has the annoying habit of making too much fill the screen in awkward ways where in Western media it is thought about a little more how close shots are done I think. Western media has more sexual behavior while anime relies on the body itself more but not always actually sexual sometimes just comedic not different from Western comedic use much though. Censorship is an obvious one. Shirtless guys seems more common in Western media even cartoons for kids. |
