As much as contrarians and people in forums like this will have you believe, the show has a lot going for it even if it may not be 100% perfect. There's a reason it resonates with a lot of people |

| It's the most popular anime on MAL as well, so I guess it's just extremely popular in general. As for why it's so popular, well, I believe there are a ton of reasons, but here are just a few off the top of my head: - There is a sense of familiarity and realism in AOT's art style, setting, characters, etc., which makes it much easier for non-anime viewers to want to try out and watch - The premise, story, and plot draw attention from people - It has idea and themes that resonate with a lot of people - It has a lot of attention-grabbing and shocking elements, which keeps people watching instead of dropping - The fights and animation are considered box office to many people - People consider characters like Levi, Eren, Mikasa, Erwin, and others to be cool and maybe like role models |

| I'd guess the main difference is that IMDB lists all of Attack on Titan as a single database entry while MAL splits it into 7 different parts. It's making users focus less on smaller details and more on the series as a whole. The difference in scores between IMDB and some of the later seasons on MAL isn't even that big. | Something really cracks me up about MAL users denouncing the quality of users on IMDb for Attack on Titan being up there in the rankings, when it has also been consistently up there in the rankings of MAL since its release. For many users, it also served as the gateway to anime more generally, prompting people to even register here. |
