So I made a thread asking people what anime should be dubbed in English and as it turns out, there are some that treat dubs like the work of the devil and call it the worst thing to exist. As someone who used to watch dubs, I respect them and think the English VAs are quite good as good as the Japanese. Though it doesn't change the fact that there are some weebs who can't the existence of dubs and think they should be banned. Seriously, so sick of dub haters. If you don't like dubs, why do you hate and trash on them. Subs are no better too as I can't stand high pitched anime girl voices sometimes. Am I the only one who can't fathom them as much as the next guy?

They are mostly keyboard warriors yelling at clouds. It's better to just ignore, even if they can be really annoying, toxic even, at times. Like you said, if someone doesn't watch something in a certain way, then why ridicule or act like a jerk towards people who actually do? It's rather something upsetting than hilarious or even slightly amusing, because you can easily imagine the very same people in other situations, acting in a similar manner (i.e. seething over someone picking up a different ice cream flavor that the seething person don't like themself). Or wait, they are mostly that bold on the Internet and only there, so ye, I take back my words. Their behavior ain't that much upsetting. ;p

But dub haters cant stand themselves too. Otherwise they woudnt be pissed over the purity of another culture which they see as escape from their own bad life.

Dubs watchers can't afford enjoying anime unless it's tampered down to accomodate their taste. With this in mind, it is clear why dubs watchers can't tolerate a different opinion and why such thread like are only created by dub watchers.

What makes you think in dub the same girl's voice won't be as high-pitched? If its the case Id rather listen to it in the original voice and how it is meant to be - aka subs, rather than cringy english or whatever else language that its dubbed in.

Dubs are (as far as I have seen) universally shit and lower the scores of any shows that have them (this is why Frieren doesn't have a perfect 10/10), and I (and many others, I suspect) have had the displeasure of being forcefully exposed to them against my will, so it's only natural people are unhesitant to point that out.

What I don't get is why we apparently need dub hater haters. Surely it would make more sense to attack the criticisms levied against dubs than the act of criticizing them itself.
I think there's been too much "Let people enjoy things", now what we need is "Let people not enjoy (and accordingly criticize) things".

Yeah, I never understood the militantly hardcore sub only people. If that's how they want to watch everything and they'd prefer a closer experience to what the staff intended, that's fine, but they usually REEEE if they find anyone watching dubs. Foreign dubs can be a decent experience too, and dubs have improved a lot over the years. I watch most anime subbed, but I usually prefer comedy anime dubbed in english. It also allows me to multitask more because a lot of animation is so limited that if you see one frame, you've seen most of the scene from a visual standpoint and only need the dialogue. Granted, some dubs are really awful, and certain shows are best experienced subbed. The real problem is how localization is handled. Some of them are faithful to the original dialogue, but it's really hard to accept the American pop culture references in something as Japanese as Shin-chan. I even kind of like the Shin-chan dub voices otherwise, though. Works better with things that feel more westerny, like Cowboy Bebop or Monster.

Is it that bad?

This silly thing really evokes the worst feelings within you?

Why do you care?

Why do you argue?

It's pointless, just enjoy it the way you want & let others enjoy it the way they want.

It's not hard, it's easy, breath in, breath out, you can do it.

@Richard_drizzle I'm honestly not sure if even one single anime on list has been dubbed into my native language.
Perhaps that's for the best.

english might just be the only somewhat bearable dub language. and either way compared to japanese, every dub is shit. people who slap the "want to inculcate my own culture while watching anime" tag are just forcing themselves to look happy.

Also I like some dubs more, when the female characters aren't so high-pitched.

It's not a hate thing, it's just that dubs are vastly inferior 99% of the time to subs. I don't understand why a person would pick to watch the dubbed version rather than the original, unless they have a condition that won't allow them to read subs. So, my problem isn't with the dub watchers, but with the dub which is soulless most of the time.

Don't worry, aside from they themselves, no one takes those guys seriously, even 90% of the people who never watch dubs consider them losers.

The truth of the matter is that the vast majority of anime fans aren't dub or sub exclusive watchers. most people switch from show to show.

you don't have to stand anyone. its the internet. there are numerous people with variety of opinions and perspectives. there's really nothing you can do except if you believe in something just stand firm on your belief and refrain from partaking in mindless arguments with strangers as it gains you nothing absolutely nothing except maybe rage if you allow the stranger that authority over you. if you want to exchange thoughts just remember to take nothing personal and that everyone has variety of views on things based on thier own knowledge and experience up to that moment. protect yourself online. more than 90 percent of these arguers and keyboard warriors won't be able to speak the same things to anyone face to face.

The end of an era. Thank you Wit, Mappa and Isayama.

I don't get it. Sub elitists will say that dubs are fake, and you have to watch sub to get the "true experience." But if you watch sub, YOU'RE STILL WATCHING IT IN ENGLISH (or whatever language it's subbed in). The only way to get the "true experience" would be to understand Japanese. They're pretty dumb imo.

@Akutsun Incredible. You're losing against your won strawman by getting hung up on semantics.
If you just substitute "true" for "more authentic", which is what the strawman obviously meant, your entire rebuttal falls apart.

You do raise a valid point in regards to the problem with dubs I previously pointed out also existing for subs though... but obviously the vast majority of people outside Japan do not understand Japan so they are a necessary evil. Dubs are both less necessary, since far fewer people actually need them, and more evil, since they actually supplant the original dialogue instead of just overlaying some text on screen that can easily be covered up (or just turned off in the case of soft-subs) to get the raw experience.

I believe raw is strictly superior in all cases, unfortunately it is much harder to native English speakers to learn one of, if not the hardest language for them to learn just to watch anime "better" than it is to just get them to read while watching.

@Adnash Dude, if you consume dub, you are consuming a processed product. Seiyuu in Japan are cast on a more professional level and their original voices are the actual voices of the characters.

@Akutsun Of course it is. But all things being equal, it is more convenient to show in subtitles the translation that is closest to the original. Not all original phrases that are translated can be voiced with high quality. For example, a character's line may be very long, longer than in the original. Also, additional information is often marked in subtitles

@Swyzen Yeah, and so what if I consume a processed product once in a while? I do whatever I find fun.

If you wanna be so genuine and loyal to the original product, then watch it without subs at all, on official Japanese platform, and without any fanmade additions explaining stuff typical to Japanese culture. Same goes with video games and movies - experience them without subs, with their original dubbing. If you detest official foreign releases, then that's the best way to experience them.

About the video you have shared, both voices sound fine and have similar modulation. So they are perfectly fine.

Every country has good and bad voice actors. Same goes with Japan, even though most of seiyuus are good and skilled, due to how high are the seiyuu standards in Japan.

@Swyzen it's a community of people who are obsessed with arguing about which fictional characters from their favorite media are stronger than fictional characters from other media, using the feats that they accomplish in their media as a method to scale them.

They're mostly just harmless fans who funnel their passion towards certain series into civilized discussions/debates, but sometimes they can be annoyingly obsessed with their fictional match-ups.

Sir, you created this thread thanks to my comment and right after you insulted me -which you forgot to say so your question is ironic- for having an opinion.

First, learn what free of speech is, seriously.

Second, I don't respect Dub VAs especially English VAs since besides they never worked with the creators of the Anime, they also don't take their work seriously unlike Japanese VAs adding they censor scenes in the dub. Toching the original work is bad, the Japanese language is beautiful. When I watch Anime, I want to watch something different, dub ruins the experience. I don't need to mention some English VAs insert their political ideology in the dub (maid dragon dub for example) and refuse to give voice to "non-white" characters even though the majority of anime characters are non-white (Chad from Bleach for example). Don't expect me to like say nice about tourists and lazy people.

So I'll repeat myself. Dubs are evil and disrespectful. Watching dub is not watching Anime properly, in fact its not watching Anime at all. It's like watching Anime at fast or slow speed, skipping scenes or put an episodes at the background without looking at it and less paying attention.
